    Good stuff. Re not repeating. Dickey Betts plays a six minute from about the 6th minute of the famous live album version of Whipping Post. Absolutely amazing musical piece. Not so much a bunch of pasted together licks.

    I really like the tone you get from your guitar. Which pickup are you using? The neck? Is it stock, or did replace it with a third party pickup? Is your SG a Gibson, or an Epiphany?

    • @NickyV
      @NickyV  4 місяці тому

      It’s a stock neck pickup but the guitar has been heavily modified. It originally was a 2001 faded with ebony board. It’s been refinished twice, bone nut, gold hardware, pleked, different bridge.

    Would you consider a vid about how you got to Nashville as a studio musician? Where from, started lessons?, school, school bands, how you progressed? Also if you are a mechanic, noticed the vet in your garage with the hood up? Your vids are very well done, very professional. I am a non-musician but interested in the music bus. thanks a lot.

      This would be a fun one. Might have to do that once the channel grows a little more that enough people would care and me not sound egotistical doing a video all about me haha.
      Short version is, learned basic chords from my mom, then learned and played in bars 3-5 nights a week from 14-18 yrs old, studied at the musicians institute in LA, worked as a music director on cruise ships for four years, moved back to Missouri to spend some time with my folks for year, bought an old Camaro for my dad (he didn’t know it was for him at the time) spent a year restoring it (literally every bolt out of the car) gave it to him for Christmas before I moved to Nashville, the year in Missouri I built an online recording business working for nothing and building it up to practice the skill set before I got to town, hit Nashville and fell into the tracking thing pretty quick, did that for a few years, toured a bit, now tracking full time and off the road. Bought the Vette a few years ago and have been putting it back together.

    I never memorize guitar solos but it's a lot easier to read them and can do that when I pick it out on piano and read it off the screen. But I didn't do that on the song I'm working on now but that's only extra lead playing in the chorus - It's all chords.

    You reckon Clapton considered intervalic harmony when he was stealing Buddy Guy licks? Did SRV analyse the scalic/chord relationships of Albert King?

    • @NickyV
      @NickyV  Місяць тому +1

      No to the first, possibly a bit to the second. Probably would have remember more of them if they did.

    So the way to remember licks... become a master at musical theory. Not sure why I have never thought about that before.

    • @NickyV
      @NickyV  Місяць тому

      I think having a command of the intervals would be the best starting point. Don’t need to know any deep crazy theory

    It’s really nice that you have been doing this for so long that your hands just know how to fill in as long as you know the starting an ending point. However, I really don’t think that helps anyone that’s trying to figure out what you’re talking about. You give no guidance on how to actually do what you’re talking about, you seem to be just rambling. Maybe you should watch some how to videos yourself
