      Good idea. I just make a small 45° angle cat at one of the corners. I can remove 1 at a time this way, too.

    Great video! For idea 4/70, please don't tighten the zip tie against the tree trunk. Trees continue to grow in width, so a tight zip tie will harm the tree. Be sure to leave some space so the tree can thrive...loosening/replacing the zip tie as the tree grows.

    • @zaphodrahja
      @zaphodrahja Місяць тому +11

      I was going to say this too, to keep loose, also better if wrap with something soft because when trashing in the wind can still cut into the trunk.

      I've used thin strips of a cloth to secure and tie.
      Definitely have to check often so even if a zip tie is used, it won't get embedded or hinder tree/plant growth.

    Fabulous video, lots of great ideas! However, for the love of God do not use scissors, snips, or wire cutters to cut them off!!! It leaves a wicked sharp chunk sticking out that can cut you or the next person very badly. One tech I know laid his forearm open to the artery on one hiding down inside a cabinet. As a telecom tech, I was provided a set of flush-cut pliers specifically to use with tie wraps. Also called zip tie cutters. We were absolutely forbidden to use anything else to cut tie wraps. Put the flat side of the flush-cut against the head of the tie and it trims the end off perfectly flush with no sharp end. Every single day I curse other cable monkeys who used their snips to cut tie wraps when I have to come in behind where they worked and left all those little vicious thorns sticking out. Take a little time and do it right! Please! I am never without my flush-cuts on the job and frequently end up trimming off ones I find sticking out where I am working. Safety first! A recent coworker was so happy with it he swiped mine after I loaned it to him for a day. I wasn’t too upset about it since I made a convert!

    I've been using zip ties since 1973, and I think that is one of the reasons I have lived so long afterward. Also, the tool with the two jaws for holding something securely is a "vise". A "vice" is a bad or immoral habit or practice ... which may or may not be committed with a vise. 😊

    Another safety tip: Don't cut the end of the tie at an angle with scissors, trim it flush with side cutters to avoid lacerations!

    I have these super giant ones that you can get and keep in your trunk in case you get stuck in the snow. They are made to go through the rim and around the tire to make bands that are good to get you out of snow. I keep bags of the moral side ones in the car also. They’ve been useful to hold up body panels that have come disconnected

    Lots of great ideas here. I bet even the original patent owner or the companies that make zipties wouldn't have thought of all these.

    My favourite was decking the wheels of a bike with zip ties to prevent slippery surfaces in bad weather. Boy, the amount of times I stacked it on my BMX because of sliding sideways on rainy days.

    👩‍🚒Any zip ties I buy are sealed down in a ziplock. Being a PVC product over time it they do harden/dry up. Ziplocs prolong the life of unused zip ties. Whenever possible I also purchased marine-grade zip ties as well. They last longer.
