  • Welcome to seeking Minimalism, part 4 of my story. Social media has been a growing influence in all of our lives. As we adapt to this newfound sensation, we’re also experiencing the dark side of it as well. Just like with everything in life, if there’s an imbalance - then you will definitely feel the effects of it. Today I share with you how I view social media through my quest of Seeking Minimalism. Before, I thought taking breaks was my answer but it only became my short-term solution to something underlying and lingering in my subconsciousness. Today, I share with you my insights and learning experiences through this part of seeking minimalism.

That's the point right there "Become more aware of how we're doing things." I do not make a living on social media so I force myself to delete the apps to limit my usage. UA-cam I stay on because I learn from people here. I love to learn new things.

Feel like we're on the same wave length. I'm separating myself from social media. This week I'm focusing on not bringing my phone to bed. Doing less and less on scrolling though social media. Love your videos.

I have limits on my other social media accounts, 20 mins a day. For UA-cam I don’t have a limit because sometimes it’s just on in the background, I like the idea of givers and takers. I definitely watch mostly givers!

Stopped following big accounts that want my likes, but they never comment back to any followers or follow anyone themselves... very narcissistic accounts that didn’t bring me joy! Also any consumerism accounts-makeup/clothes models... how much do we need!!! It’s like a constant advertisement and like your not good enough without this new item. I actually seek out small account now with more interaction with their followers! ! And I stopped following celebrities .... I feel more wholesome and simplistic now!

Your seeking minimalism videos are sooo damn soothing that no matter how bad my mood is and especially when I'm pmsing or something, i always watch these videos and everything that i feel all that overwhelmingness in my life just vanishes away ..
I would rather play these videos than watch something funny or listen to a podcast to be completely honest

I agree with the giver and taker method and i def apply that to my real life since most of the time, youtube is just a mindless distraction for me. But you are def a giver, listening to you every week is a highlight!!

    Interesting, and well said!
I've come to more and more think that all critizism come from not wanting to "connect" with one self. (don't want to use the word confront because it should be more of being nice to oneself)
It doesn't mean that we cannot give other people critic, but it should (most often) come from ourselves; like I feel x when you say/do y. This is of course to oversimplify it, but what I strive for. Can escpecially recommend it when dealing with teenagers: "please call before 22, you know that I will worry otherwise" and if needed; "then I will probably start calling your friends and their parents if you don't answer". Properly adapted to the situation. And you should start from what you really feel to be authentic, and be prepared to do what you say to be reliable.
(English's not my first language but hopefully the idea comes through)

Thank you so much for sharing your story and being an inspiration for all of us seeking change. I'm still new to minimalism, but I find it a much needed philosophy in todays overstimulating society. I was wondering if you would be willing to share sources how you educated yourself when starting your minimalism-journey, did you read books about it or found other sources that were helpful?
I really enjoyed this video and your vision on the 'purpose of life' and how we often don't know what to do with our time. I think on the one hand, we are always searching for a meaning, but there might not be such a greater 'cause'. On the other hand, it's such a miracle that we exist and that we can enjoy such beautiful things as life itself and the amazing world we live in. Maybe it is our 'purpose' to mindfully enjoy life and all it has to give, to make the most of it. And minimalism can add to it by allowing ourselves to fully capture and enjoy the 'pureness' of everything, without getting distracted by all the noise in today's society (with all the negative consequences that come with it).
Anyway, long story short, thank you for your inspiration and sharing your journey, it helps me to find my path in this minimalistim-journey. Can't wait for more to learn.
