  • Welcome to part 3 of Seeking Minimalism. In part 3, I share with you some of the REGRET purchases I’ve made 🤦🏻‍♀️. Looking back, I can see how many terrible decisions I’ve made but I think that is the biggest growing process in life. But only if we can recognize and acknowledge them. I definitely wish I’ve spent my money differently but I don’t think I would have ever come to this level of understanding if I don’t come to the point of having these regrets. At first, I wanted to kick myself for spending so much and now I just laugh at myself. Maybe I can save you the money and time but altogether this is a conversation I thought worth having. Thank you for being apart of this journey.

I feel you so much with this video. One of my biggest regrets is the amount of high heels I used to buy. I have never been a big high heel wearer... but I bought them for my "fashion blog".... One day I just threw them all in a box and donated 95% of them. It felt so good and I didn't even miss them.

I love watching videos like this, they calm my anxiety for some reason. Also, I must say I prefer videos that are made simply, just a person sitting down talking about their experience as opposed to a big production that requires a lot of equipment. It just feels more personal, like hanging out with a friend.

In the past year I stopped dyeing my hair and painting my nails, because I realized that both were unnecessary, didn't make me feel any better, and both are terrible for the environment.

I absolutely agree with everything you mentioned. I too have been guilty of buying things just because my friends have it or recommended it, but after about a year or less I DON'T love it and end up selling it or just giving it away. The older I get I am not buying or doing anything unless I absolutely love it and it has a true purpose. Now I am team love what I like, my life, and NOT theirs! Thanks for sharing Ann I thoroughly enjoyed the video. :)

I identify so much with most if not all the things you talked about in this video. Starting with regretting some purchases that only would take space in your home and mind and weren't practical. Very important that you don't care about fitting in anymore, that's a big one. I feel like the older you get and the more experience you get in life the less you follow what other people do and start thinking more for yourself. I'm turning 38 in March and I feel so free from caring about what others think of me or what I have to do because society pressures me to do it. It may just come with a small price, wich is that you may not have as many friends or people in your life but it's ok because you have found yourself and you're not willing to be someone else just to fit in. Thinking way more about what is more practical for your life according to your lifestyle and what you really like is also very cool because it makes your life flow better and just be more practical wich equals peace of mind and functionality. It's very true that is nice to be and look young but the beauty of being more confident and knowing what you want makes up for aging wich is part of life. Sorry for the long comment but I felt so happy to hear someone else put into words the way I feel. Thanks for sharing!

I totally agree! I am embracing my age 51! Feel like we're going through the same process of minimalism. I love bags and havent bought one the whole year of 2020. I'm not striving for the perfect bag anymore and using what I have. I'm learning to let go of the material and add more experiences. Thank you for your videos.

Very much appreciate this video, Ann! I went through same process of purging clothing and designer bags that just collected dust. Started it last year and enjoyed the freedom from consumerism. Ann. I remember watching one of your first videos. It was using glue to remove blackheads. And then there was a coffee scrub using Folgers coffee grounds. I love this series! I am moving towards a minimalist life myself as a 27 year old. The things I once look forward to ie buying luxury goods and trying to fit in no longer interests me. This extends to coffee, fast fashion, books, perfume, bottled water just to name a few. Also when you mentioned not wanting to be tied down to a mortgage.. I felt that. I don’t want to have to stress for the next 30 years - I just want to live for now and be here in the moment enjoying doing the things I do.
Looking forward to seeing more of your content :)

Yes! It is a process, but as long as we learn, then we have grown! I am a photographer. I work with a basic Cannon camera, with an extra lens. That's it'. I try not to edit my pics too much. I am considered boring and basic, but I love it. I let my hair go silver and white at 36. Best thing I have ever done. I do not buy into standards of beauty and feel wonderful! I am now 46.

I have a friend who was grey by the time I met her in university, and seeing how cool her hair looked really started to change my opinion of greying. I'm 29 and my greys are starting to pop up much more now, and I'm actually kind of excited to get a grey streak! I personally think gray hair on women looks so chic. It's all a matter of attitude!

I had white hair at 11. It was strange but as I am 30 now it is definitely more pronounced. I never equate it to anything like how society does. My brother also has a lot of white hair. It's just genetics. Embrace it because even if you don't it'll still be there so why not.

I just sold by 10th and final Louis Vuitton item! All done! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. It was a goal for 2021 and I am so proud of myself that I followed through. I also stopped dying my hair 6 months ago - most days I love it - some days I struggle but tell myself that I am a different person now. Next on my list to declutter and sell are more mid-level purses. I am so impressed by your honesty and courage with this video. Thank you so much! When I begin to doubt my decisions, I will remember your wise words on this channel. Happy New Year!

@@StudioAnnLe I recommend you sell that lovely Celine to me :) I'm a minimalist at heart and that bag is my unicorn bag. I'm slowly clearing the clutter and have downsized over 2020 but I heard you should surround yourself with things that are useful and/or beautiful. That Celine makes my heart sing. I'm so thankful I came across your channel. I can't wait to watch the other videos in this series. Like you and from the comments, so many others, I am embracing the grays in my hair and growing out the rainbow blonde that I was. So much upkeep, so many trips to the hairdresser for hours and so much money. Thank you for being you and such an uplifting and powerful series.

I never liked the celine bag! Yeah and I stopped buying designer bags, clothes, and stopped doing my nails - it just not meaningful anymore. I used to love my LV speedy 35 but now I regret buying it. The only thing I still have a guilty pleasure is buying Makeup, but try to stick to what I already own. Yes I want to get a RV car too - I never liked them before and was more into sporty cars, but because I got into more hiking during the quarantine so I really want a RV now for travelling.

I loved your video again! Very beautifully think through and gave me such an insight how are you as a person. I always felt and sometimes still do when someone post about certain products and they say "you need this" and I am like why I need this? What purpose would it give me? And most of the time I say no and don't purchase anything because I don't need it.
When you said "I made as a purchase of your job" or something like that with the LV bag, I have been noticing that people just use them on the photos for ecstatic purchases and when they are vlogging they just use a simple bag.
Thank you so much for sharing and I cannot wait to see your next video! 🥰

About 5 years ago I moved across the country and 3 years later my family sold the home I grew up in to move closer to me. I knew I was in the state I wanted to live forever, so during those years I slow brought as much of my possessions that I could each time I visited via whatever I could stuff in my luggage, my family's luggages, my relative's luggages when they visited. I ended up accumulating things that did not matter to me. I carried over countless and heavy crafting supplies that I bought years ago and hardly used, decorations that cost under $10 that I had no attachment to, and things I were gifted from family and friends that I felt bad not saving with me, though the position did not add any value to my life beside it being from a loved one. A couple years after I moved, I got further into minimalism and ended up donating a large percentage of what I had brought over! Though now I do want to take it as a lesson learned to be more mindful of what I bring into my home as it truly does cost rent in physical realestate in your home and rent in your head!

Me too. I recognize one thing and then when I feel ready I put it in the donate pile. I never revisit that pile I just donate it when I get enough things.

Agree with everything you’ve said here, thank you for sharing. Sounds like the stabilizer is more appropriate for the photographer/videographer’s inventory, not yours.

I really wanted to by LV.. same week I got my funds to get one.. I drop my camera while shooting.. replacement was about 2000$.. I quickly go in to mood camera first.. bag later.. priority can change in second.. my embrassing moments are all expensive.. Breaking 2-3 camera so far accidentally.. also phones had replace about 6-10 time.. Learning now to go simple n not rush and get caught up is the key..

Love how this video make me feel calm. For your grey hair, maybe instead of cutting hair dye completely, how about we limit the use of hair dye like one time/two times a year. I think there’s a golden medium rule of a lot of things in life. For the Celine bag, just try to sell it now. Even though you might not be able to get back what you paid for, but the price you paid is ‘sunk cost’ anyway, and you can invest the money you get from resell and earn interest 😇 Totally agree with you that all the decisions we made in the past help make who we are today ❤️

Too many of us are greying (even I had my first shock of grey hair at 13-14) because we live in very toxic environments. Our food is almost always soaked with bad chemicals. I am seeing so many (not funny) kids greying even as young as 8/9 years old now. It is not aging but yes these signs that showed age earlier are afflicting the very young now. It is not pleasant....one has to reconcile to it...but neither is it shameful. We take on that shame....it's not there.

I'm loving your Seeking Minimalism series! I've been decluttering and have already sold/given away so many things.
I'm curious, do you have a bed frame and mattress? I know there are a variety of sleeping arrangements for those who practice minimalism.

Thank you for the feedback 😊 I do still have my bed frame and mattress. I think those are the only bulky things I own now. They are such a pain and super heavy. I hope to be free of those soon. Ideally I like to have something lighter in the future and keep it to just a light (and comfy) mattress!
