22:40 - No artist or programmer would be punished if you refused to buy the game while it was locked to the Epic Games Store. As it stands they take a large sum of money that supposedly covers the debts the game accumulated during development... gearbox and it’s employees don’t miss out on anything. The company, the one they work for, would still have to pay them. Gearbox would have to re-evaluate the decisions that led to poor sales. Aka taking an exclusive deal from Epic. Rushing the game with bugs. Etc. unfortunately, to many people are so apathetic to all the bs going on that they actually help promote it rather than help stifle it’s growth. I'd say this was the best review yet I mean, most reviews just say "Guns good, story bad. Thats the whole game" Instead you ACTUALLY went on detail and understand the game isn't JUST about the guns.
Coolest thing is how I’ve used 100+ guns and they’ve all been significantly different either in design or mechanics. Coolest thing I’ve ever seen in gaming
22:40 - Your point stands but I very much disagree with that sentiment about "think of the developers" because affecting their bottom line can nourish change for the better for not just the product and company, but the industry as a whole. Unless Randy comes out bitching and the journalist shove all the "gamers" under the rug again and some "gamers" say and do a bunch of stupid shit that'll only negate any and all criticisms towards the industry. (I mean if we said and did nothing because we "thought of the developers" with EA's Battlefront 2, it would probably still have P2W loot boxes.) I honestly agree that people should enjoy what they want but I also want to inform and encourage the masses to not support these types of behaviors. Especially now since I've grown more self-aware from experience in the past and as I've grown older and become more informed. We all should do that. We should also never belittle or cast aside those who just want to have fun. But those people who wanted the product should not complain about issues outside of the product. If you bought something on a store/launcher that has issues, and you were well aware of those issues, don't complain about about that store/launcher. You just wanted the product. Really though my bottom line is that I want no THIRD-PARTY exclusives on the PC platform and just in general. I want everyone who's on the PC platform or is joining it to equally enjoy a product and have the BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE.

Since the only friend who wanted to play this with me owns a PS4 (and no gaming PC), we went for the console version. Splitscreen on PS4 means we play at 10-15fps (and even less if one of us DARES to open the menu to chech his inventory/skills) and playing with a controller means any build based on critical hits and overall AIMING isn't an option (he went for a tank/shotgun Amara while I just toss grenades everywhere with Moze). Dispite all of that, we're still having quite some fun with Borderlands 3, so that's saying a lot about the overall quality of the game I guess.
As a fellow PS4 player (can't stand Epic store) I can agree, optimization is pretty lacking. Maybe I was spoiled by Handsome Collection running so smooth at all times, even splitscreen ran pretty well, but man the second-long pauses every time you bring up a menu is grating.
Same here on Xbox One X. Every game I played so far ran extremely smooth, even if they were not optimized for the console. But BL3 just runs like shit at times although it actually is optimized for the One X. Sucks, hopefully Gearbox will fix that soon
Love you Gman, and your reviews are always fun to watch, but I can't ever see myself getting this cause of Randy Pitchford and how 2K sent PI investigators at that Borderlands-UA-camr's house for finding accidentally-revealed gameplay tidbits and talking about em. I also saw they still have Claptrap and I absolutely disdain that talking Chinese takeout box.
"People should judge this game on the game itself, not on the platform it's being sold at." Nailed it. Games aren't rated anymore based on gameplay, it's all about bombing scores because the devs did something that 'betrayed' and overly sensitive player base who takes things way too personal.
You only have to look at the responses of those steam fanboys to know that they don't even know why they're angry. They will defend steam to their deaths and say Epic is evil, but epic only charges developers a 12% cut, versus Valves piss taking 30% cut. I care about gaming, and if I like a game, I want the developer to earn as much money as possible, so that they are more inclined to release DLC's or sequals. For that reason alone, I always buy on Epic if given the choice.
It's funny they come up with all this other names to replace "midgets" but all the names they choose are far more offensive and demeaning. Midget isn't even bad lol. On another note it's sad the game still has bad writing. The first game is so much better than the rest of the series when it comes to writing and atmosphere. Wish they would take more influence from that.
First game ?Bettet writing ? The ending is literally the wost ending in gaming hiatory....commander steele was wasted only to get "surprise" murdured by the destroyer....having finished BL2 for the 100 time last werk I cant see how BL1 has better story....Handsome Jack is such a great antagonist and so much more happends in the story missions....while in BL1 all you do is fight Crimson Lance troops and collect vault key fragments
I don't care about the midget thing either but I do see how some people might consider it rude. Would you walk up to Peter Dinklage and say what's up midget? HahA
Yeah everyone still gonna call them midgets and not whatever they're called now see I can't remember and he just said like 2 minutes ago that's how ingrained into our heads it is.
Yup I was checking if anyone had this complaint! I play one character a few hours, and go to start a new one, and nope. Sit here for 5ish minutes for the cutscenes to play. And the tutorial area is even slower than the older games, but at least does give a fun boss.
I think it's that, without the lighting, BL3 would be basically Borderlands 2 in terms of looks. But that's okay. Cel-Shaded graphics aren't meant to blow you away. When Gman talks about taking 15 seconds staring at the cyberpunk planet, I think we're all gonna take 15 minutes staring at the world of....well, Cyberpunk. It also speaks to the medium that Cel Shaded graphics make a game hold up no matter how old it is. Look at games like Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and Sly Cooper. They're not the best, but they hold up because of their artstyle. I mean, look at MvC3 compared to Mortal Kombat 9. Both released in 2011, both 2D fighting games, but MvC looks a lot better. Granted, games like Battlefield 3 are also from 2011 and still hold up relatively well today. Idk I'm going off in a tangent.
@@aniruddhadas1011 black outlines don't exactly qualify as cel-shading. Take a look at some Suda51 games like killer7 and Killer is Dead, that's what real cel-shading is. I'm honestly glad the outlines arent that noticeable in 3 unless you TRY to see them, Borderlands 2 on PC let you turn off the black outlines and it honestly looks more pleasing and also made the game more colorful (it also helped improve performance).
Having played this on the Xbox One X, I can confirm the performance really isn’t better on there. I haven’t had any crashes, (knock on wood,) but I’ve had frame rate issues, the game freezing for a second or two and then coming back, usually resulting in me running into a wall. I’ve had an enemy launch about a mile away after I used Amara’s slam ability, meaning I couldn’t get the loot from it. I enjoy Borderlands 3 a lot, and I love the sound design and the way it looks, but I think there’s a lot of things that just don’t work in this game, such as devoting so much anti-piracy software to the game that it hampers the performance. Definitely a really great review, Gman.
Your review was THE most honest, straightforward, and half decent review I've watched of BL3. Everyone bitches about how bad the writing is and how terrible the game is compared to BL2. Your review looked at BL3 for what it was worth - all the good and bad that came with it. You didn't shit all over the game purely because of its bad writing because there IS more to BL3 than that. Thank you for your honesty!
Coming from someone who has played since launch, I have a few complaints: 1) The twins are just awful. Dialogue is rubbish. Humor is rubbish from them specifically. Handsome Jack was obnoxious and psychotic but he had a layer of humanity that made him believable as a character. The twins are just sadists for no reason with zero charisma which completely undercuts their uniqueness as villains especially in a game already overflowing with generic sadistic psychos. 2)The Vaults. Yeah really. Both the first two games established them as the end point of the campaign that everything was building toward. Now, there are vaults every 5 seconds. They start to get boring given their frequency in the campaign and lose a lot of the excitement surrounding their opening given that they all have the predictable monsters attached. 3) The music...alright in places but way too little and too quiet at times. Southern Shelf in Borderlands 2 had more memorable music than this entire game and its a real atmosphere killer. 4) The level scaling....some spots have enemies weirdly under level or above. There is a weird variance at times. 5) Sanctuary hub- good god what an awful hub. The layouts all over the place and its hard to navigate even when you know it. Much worse than Borderlands 2. 6) Bosses...bullet sponges with many having cheap unavoidable AOE attacks ( Killavolt for one..). Makes solo annoying but maybe that is the idea? 7) Level size-they are big. Too big at times...a lot of unnecessary empty spaces and confusing map layouts like Eden 6. 8) No 'invincible' bosses or raid ones to be specific only those tied to missions. 9) Legendaries are very hit and miss. Some are just pure gimmicky rather than practical weapons. I suppose that was true in BL2 but here it seems more so. 10) Pop in of textures on PS4 Pro...quite jarring at times. Lag in swapping between menus at times is noticeable and can freeze up. There is more to say but its not like anyone is going to read the above so I'll wrap it up here but to put it simply its not as good as BL2 so far in my opinion. Its decent but so many missed opportunities in the narrative, mission structure, pacing, music, level design etc hold it back from being as great as its predecessor.
Arclight104 Disagree. Simply because, as a game, its mechanics are simply better than borderlands 2. The gameplay is all around better and borderlands humor and writing has always been pretty damn bad anyway. Maps being too big? There’s more convenient fast travel and you usually don’t have to repeat large sections if you die. Which fixes my main issue with 2.... the freaking second wind. It just works better in 3. Legendaries might be more hit and miss but there are also way more of them. The gunplay is vastly improved. Borderlands 3 is the type of improvement that you don’t appreciate until you try to go back to the previous games.
Am sry but i only disagree with the bosses bit. You can get a shield that negates everything kilavolt does and theres a few tricks to avoid them but reat i agree with. Wish you mentioned anointed bugged enemies tho

Most balanced review I've seen, so glad you reviewed the game as a game, not the centre for all the garbage that surrounds it. P.S. I fell through the map in exactly the same place, after the exact same cut scene.
BL3 is the first game with a seperate writing department, and if you didn't tell me that I would have assumed they took the only writer out back and shot them.
I’m the one problem I have with this game apart from bad writing at points was the boss battles. I normally play alone and I think I’m very good at loot shooters, but the bosses on solo suck. I had to pull in a friend just to get one boos and I had very strong weapons. Other than that I think it’s a great game.
I know I'm very late but this is a quality review, talking about the game's improvements and flaws, not trashing everything just because "the story was weak". I mean someone even made an hour and a half video cringin' about the story... come on.
Does anyone else see the irony/juxtaposition in helping Atlas fight Maliwan? You know, because those of us who played BL1 *before* BL2 probably spent a lot of time melting Crimson Lance troopers with a Pestilent Defiler. 0:36 Why does she have spiked studs on the right shoulder of her vest if she shoots right-handed? 9:28 It's like if UA-cam personalities had a literal "cult of personality" like Immortan Joe. *Note:* Wait, wait, wait. "Cambot?!" How do they get away with using the name "Cambot?!" That's already taken! MST3K beat them to it. 9:48 That Vladof machine pistol makes no mechanical sense due to the gap at the back of the receiver combined with the fact that the magazine well is in the grip. How do the cartridges feed?! This isn't rocket surgery! Gunsmithing is a form of engineering, yeah, but not it's not rocket surgery. 12:41 I'll always associate that with the NES version of Strider (also the Genesis and arcade versions, but mostly the NES one). 16:02 I've been a Jesper Kyd fantard since I first played Sub-Terrania on the Genesis back in 1993. 18:14 Don't get me started on scoped sh0tguns. Same for Mashers. Ir0n sights are fine by me as long as they line up right (a lot of them don't in BL2/TPS). Simplicity is perfection. 18:24 "Five power" is how that's meant to be enunciated. It's even worse on a sh0tgun or Masher. Ir0n sights or ghost ring sights are ideal for a sh0tgun. Plain ol' pistol sights for a Masher. 21:51 I'm a Hoosier of Virginian heritage, descended from Appalachian moonshiners, and I'm not offended by the way they portray the Hodunks. 22:38 Maybe customers and developers together should consider forming a secessionist movement against publishers, number crunchers, and internationalist bankers. Take Two is Jack-era Hyperion and SupMatto was our Roland.
As fun as the mechanics are, the thought of replaying it once let alone multiple times is nauseating. It goes on more than long enough even without the DLCs and gets pretty repetitive feeling later on like 2 did. I had the most fun going through the whole Promethea act.
Wait a minute your taking time out of your review to give objective examples of gameplay changes from BL2 to BL3??? But every other “reviewer” cough said there was no changes from BL2 to BL3! Not to mention ShillUp saying “I wish the open world was expanded more” and I’m like why? Why do you want unnecessary padding to a campaign that’s meant for multiple playthrough. Oh don’t forget the critique “it’s just more borderland”. What nonsense. I’m glad this review wasn’t like the other ones I’ve been seeing. Like well deserved
@@devonmolina5200 They do a good job making the calypsos absolutely insufferable but you can do that with any villain, when i comes to borderlands i'm in it for the gameplay not the writing. The whole argument "it's better with friends" if I had a good group of friends I could enjoy watching paint dry. Everything is better with friends. If the base game isn't good/enjoyable/fun alone than I'll play something else.
it sounds like this game would benefit greatly from proper modding support even if it was just replacing sound files. (like replacing all of the dialogue with different Lego Yoda death screams or just with his voice).

For the people waiting for the steam version or hasn't played the game yet. A little tip, don't do the side missions in the first run. Never do a single one of them. In the end, you'll unlock something called "mayhem mode". And when you do. Pick level 3, and do all the side missions. You'd get 3 times the XP you'd normally get, and not to mention. Have a better chance in getting legendary. This is how I got my moze to level 50 without even stepping into true vault hunter mode.
"Sequel to Borderlands the Pre-Sequel," If it was a sequel it would've followed the Eridian Watcher's "a war is coming" plotpoint, which hyped me up for the game, but instead they went with THESE VILLIANS? The hell Gearbox, what the hell! I thought they would've touched up on the plot point, but from what I've heard so far he's not in the game. Probably in a future paid DLC. Which is worse, but at least something.

irrelavant intersts I don’t hate the devs my problem is w/ the publishers as, when they’re not bullying UA-camrs they’re choosing God awful PC launchers. What GG said was about progress losses stems from the EGS exclusivity so its not true to say the deal has gone off without a hitch. In fact, this is just another in a long line of issues for the launcher. So don’t give me the life is short shtick because it’s a BS smokescreen.
the original had the funniest dialog. handsome jack was refreshing -- the twins, if you listen to their banter, gets funnier the longer you get into the story. it's not stellar, but it's consistent. thats all they need. consistent. the city worlds felt really bleak and empty, they need to keep to outer barren worlds to retain the illusion. gameplay is fun. consistent.
So somebody said that by buying this Epic Store exclusive game "you have no principles" What would mean to have principles according to them? Doing exactly what he and others say and not playing a game that YOU decided that YOU want to play? Some people...

Ezequiel Morales How though? Clarify pls?
Every time you make an exception it only gives companies the green light to go exclusive and put their stuff on the trash heep Epic Game Store. Every time you buy a micro transaction you let the company know that micro transactions are what they should be focusing on.
If everyone wants games to go back to being games that are well made, complete, and perform well out the gate, then people need to stick to their guns and hold to a set of standards and principles. Otherwise, things just get progressively worse as time goes on and people’s apathy allows this rotten trend to continue.
Devs will say stuff like...
Look it worked for them! Let’s do it to. Gamers don’t have principles anyway!
*facepalm
I see all this shit thrown at the Epic Store but other then the fact that it doesn’t show review scores (which isn’t really a problem imo because you could easily look that up) I don’t really see what the problem is
Add to that the fact that a UA-cam reviewer cannot pass on the opportunity to make views with something popular. I never saw a single youtuber NOT talk about or buy a game despite all the controversy. The right thing to do would be to ignore that completely, but noooo, they need those views because it's a popular subject.

I'd say this was the best review yet
I mean, most reviews just say "Guns good, story bad. Thats the whole game"
Instead you ACTUALLY went on detail and understand the game isn't JUST about the guns.
yup
Coolest thing is how I’ve used 100+ guns and they’ve all been significantly different either in design or mechanics. Coolest thing I’ve ever seen in gaming
22:40 - Your point stands but I very much disagree with that sentiment about "think of the developers" because affecting their bottom line can nourish change for the better for not just the product and company, but the industry as a whole. Unless Randy comes out bitching and the journalist shove all the "gamers" under the rug again and some "gamers" say and do a bunch of stupid shit that'll only negate any and all criticisms towards the industry. (I mean if we said and did nothing because we "thought of the developers" with EA's Battlefront 2, it would probably still have P2W loot boxes.)
I honestly agree that people should enjoy what they want but I also want to inform and encourage the masses to not support these types of behaviors.
But if you don't buy product, why you people keep complaining about it EVERYWHERe, on every forum, everysite, there is one shitbag like you.

Well in the video he doesn’t say “you should support the business practice because the devs need their paycheck. He says to not go after the devs because of what corporate commander decides where the game should be sold.
@@DarkKiller-0 I understood that. But that's not what I was talking about. I was talking about how the sentiment of "think of the developers" is more of an excuse. I'm not disagreeing with Gman when he talks about not wanting to harm devs. If we honestly cared for the devs we would be putting our foot down, not harassing devs and others.
"Have I ever told you about that time I went to Randy Pitchford's house?"

"People should judge this game on the game itself, not on the platform it's being sold at."
Nailed it.

The game legit looks so much better graphically than the second game. Idk how people don't see that.

The game dashboard on me twice and crashed a few times on my X.
I heard their releasing a performance patch sometime this coming week
My friend had this problem, don't put the game in performance mode. I guess "performance" means perform badly
this is old but I've had performance issues on my fairly high end pc (stuttering and frame drops etc). this game is just not well-optimized.
I've been playing on ps5 with resolution settings turned up and I've been getting consistent 50 FPS. Might just be the updates tho
Coming from someone who has played since launch, I have a few complaints:
1) The twins are just awful.
Arclight104
Disagree.
I thought Antony Burch was the only good writer to write for the series, I mean. He helped write Handsome Jack and Tales from the Borderlands.

18:24 "Five power" is how that's meant to be enunciated. It's even worse on a sh0tgun or Masher. Ir0n sights or ghost ring sights are ideal for a sh0tgun. Plain ol' pistol sights for a Masher.

How does all that affect the game though? The only thing that flat out affects the game is the EGS. Randy doing shady shit doesn't make BL3 a worse off game. It ruins your perception of the game, not the game itself.
@@Gggmanlives Bad pr = lover sales number less people will play it. In every other review you make jabs at the games industry for garbage practices but of course borderlands 3 gets a free pass cause bias.
You could do the “slam move” in the pre-sequel as well...
Only with oz kits which are not a thing in Borderlands 3
Pre-Sequel didn't deserve it, or to exist in the first place
@@ajn.televisionakapeachspic1780 TPS isn't even bad.
@@ajn.televisionakapeachspic1780 TPS is good why are everybody hating on it.
@@erieriderschillingcorner1595 ...because it was nothing but an expansion pack/slight graphical upgrade of Borderlands 2?
Ey Sonny Jim! Just wanted to say that I've been watching your vids for years now and still loving it! Keep it up!
This game is solid. I’ve really enjoyed my time in it so far, but I got to say the writing is total shit. Always has been, but everything is so cringey I can’t help but agree with you. Especially running the coffee missions and such, I thought those were really stupid. But the gunplay is great.
I've always enjoyed the constant banter running in the background while your playing. Made it seem something was always going on even when your playing by your lonesome.
They honestly need better writers that don't cater to meme obsessed 14 year olds.
My favorite quality of life improvment is that money and ammo is auto collected when you open a contrainer
I'd like to thank everyone who bought the game on Epic for being part of the beta test for the game. Finding bugs and glitches so that the devs can iron them out for the Steam release is much appreciated.
Lool
I've played as crit Fl4k for a while, but I'm so glad to see phasegrasp Amara works as well as it does, I'm excited to try that build out.
Fl4k is my boy. So far he has been my go to.
I’ve yet to bother with this game after all the EGS and SupMatto bullshit but goddamn, if I’m not sick and tired of people pretending launchers never have an effect on the games we play.
Installing the epic launcher decreased my life expectancy by 15% lol. life is short making it grim for yourself and being disgruntled about everything wont serve you any good. life will go on for those devs you despise so much whether you bought their game or not.
irrelavant intersts I don’t hate the devs my problem is w/ the publishers as, when they’re not bullying UA-camrs they’re choosing God awful PC launchers. What GG said was about progress losses stems from the EGS exclusivity so its not true to say the deal has gone off without a hitch. In fact, this is just another in a long line of issues for the launcher.
So don’t give me the life is short shtick because it’s a BS smokescreen.
the original had the funniest dialog. handsome jack was refreshing -- the twins, if you listen to their banter, gets funnier the longer you get into the story. it's not stellar, but it's consistent. thats all they need. consistent. the city worlds felt really bleak and empty, they need to keep to outer barren worlds to retain the illusion. gameplay is fun. consistent.
Yeah, wouldn’t give GB money IF they made a good game.
Bet they're gutted...
So somebody said that by buying this Epic Store exclusive game "you have no principles"
What would mean to have principles according to them? Doing exactly what he and others say and not playing a game that YOU decided that YOU want to play?
Some people...
Once it is on Steam, they've worked out the bugs and they have a GOTY Edition, I'll pick it up. I can still get fun out of the old BL games.
and the first 2...free DLC's, will be out by then as well. so more content :)
The twins personalities from Borderlands 3 sound like the twins from Far Cry New Dawn.
Oh it’s much worse than new dawn
You've literally played a bit more than 7 hours a day over one week. That's dedicated, man. Jesus
Honestly, that's how reviewers and critics should be playing to begin with.
Well it’s his job and makes money off of it, some niggas no life games without getting nothing from them
I meant as a props guys, I know I couldn't do it 😅
Papa Pimp trust me, I’ve known gman for years, this ain’t his job, we just went full retard playing it over the launch weekend
AyyMatto well it kinda is his job, I’m sure he’s earning money of off this, look at the views, I’m sure he’s treating UA-cam like his second job no doubt, but yeah if you’re his friend you might know better lmaoo, I was js
I got the game when it came out. I chose Fl4k and ended up using a green Lvl.14 Jacobs assault rifle all the way up to Lvl 40 cause it had the perfect scope and recoil for me to land critical hits all day long.
Gimmicky weapons? Have you ever played a BL game ??
It's hilarious, the midgets were just little people, but the "tinks" are big-headed circus freak caricatures that are way more offensive than the midgets ever were
22:08 Gman I think you have a notification.
9:27 - 9:39 THANK. YOU.
Apparently, "tink" is also a derogatory term, but I don't recall what for. Just funny how GB politically avoided one "offensive" term for another XP
Favorite gun in the franchise: Torgue's Swordsplosion. Favorite spot in the franchise (granted DLC): the VIP section of the pool area (overall favorite as well, I think) where the statue of Handsome Jack is. Brings back some great memories, and I just think the whole area is gorgeous.
That flamethrower SMG is actually a reference to Elon Musk’s flamethrowers. The name as well as the flavor text reference him.
They named a planet after one of their characters? Does anyone else remember that Athena was a character in the Pre-quell as well as well as an appearance in TellTale's spin off games.
I love the humor of borderlands 2 and Tiny Tina was one of my favorite characters.
But my God did they go overboard with borderlands 3. Like... look. It's ok if not every characters to be a crazy sociopath and a bad pun machine.
My God... I get it... pandora is crazy but there is a fucking limit.
Like even when you get to the monk temple.... guess what... every is also wacky and crazy.
"Not so fast Val--" **Zane would like to know your location**
Nice.
Thank you Gearbox for getting rid of Anthony Burch
