Wolfenstein: Youngblood is an upcoming first-person shooter developed by MachineGames and Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. A spin-off of the Wolfenstein series, the game is set to be released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in July 2019 and Stadia at a later date.
In the game, the player assumes control of either Jess or Soph Blazkowicz from a first-person perspective. An optional cooperative multiplayer mode is included in the game. Players can complete the game with another player or with an artificial intelligence substitute. Unlike the reboot games, missions can be completed in a non-linear order, and players can unlock new gear and abilities as they progress in the game

I always preferred the hardcore horror/scifi tones of the new order, war is hell.

The New Order had the oppressive, desperate atmosphere, of that while BJ may be an absolute bad ass, he was still just one man in an increasingly dangerous world that hated him, and that would, in all likelyhood, end up killing him.
The New Colossus seemed to forget about that, and Youngbloods seems to be actively trying to destroy the atmosphere that New Order created.
@@tasty_wind4294 I loved the new colossus when it did have those moments... but clearly the the new order was bathed in the horrors of war and science experiments that really captured the fear and isolation, colossus was great when it focused on BJs lack of ability following such damaging injuries... at the beginning he says the weak and old are doomed. That recaptured lightning imo.
RtCW and TNO both have their ups and downs. For me, RtCW maintains a perfect balance between spy-themed warfare, paranormal Indiana Jones-like horror adventure and sci-fi technofascist atmosphere. TNO, for a change, holds on the latter aspect too much, which I profoundly enjoyed, but nothing will ever be like luring an ancient undead warrior underneath a stone cross, kick it, and see him get brutally smashed through the massive hole in the ground caused by the fallen piece of the monument. Now that was truly badass.
UPD: They also interpreted General Deathshead's name (Totenkopf) as "Skull" in the Russian version of TNO. Just why? Considering that even early bootleg localization of RtCW got that name properly, it's something I'd still bitch about.
I just don't get the point of enemies in games who's level scale with your own, why even have levels to begin with.
Because they want to make them open while still enforcing a certain progression on the player, which begs the question why they didn't just make it a linear game without levels in the first place.
...I thought the whole thing in this game is that they don't scale with you. Didn't he say some enemies are impossible until you level up?
I think what he was trying to say is that you're forced to stick to fighting enemies your own level, so the areas you're able to fight in scale with you as you level up.
@@HunterTinsley I think he meant that the actual path to get to those fights is locked off until you hit a certain point, it's not like Breath of the Wild where you can go direct from the opening to the final fight if you wanted to and get your shit pushed in.

When I heard that we were going to play as daughters of BJ Blazkowicz, I imagine that they were going to be as calm, collected, and badass as their father, well, one of them at least, but instead we get two lack responsible, walking dude bro attitude like something you see out of Wayne's World or a Bill and Ted movie. They did. It’s called “The Old Blood”, even though it was made closer to the tone of the whole reboot series rather than original RTCW.

i played return to castle wolfenstein recently because everyone told me its tue best one. it isnt even close. its so dated and the level design is super boring. it doesn't hold up and people just have nostalgia for it.

@@BOBINDUN These looter shooter mechanics always feel 'okay' in the moment to moment gameplay where you see your numbers go up. But at the end it always feels like I wasted a lot of time on something that's just average instead of having a great overall experience. That's why I try to avoid these types of games nowadays.

The Stowaway it pisses me off because I genuinely enjoy the gunplay, I just CANNOT stand for how fucking cringe every character is. In New Order and New Colossus the characters were insane but were also really self aware, but now they just took it WAY too far to where it’s not even humans communicating with each other. I am really worried about Wolfenstein III
I disagree. The two daughters work as a foil to B.J; they're younger and less jaded and hardened than he is. Having grown up in this nightmarish world, they've developed this sense of violent posturing and a dark sense of humor, but being teenagers they're emotionally immature and have vulnerabilities. That's just my opinion.

Wolfenstein 2009 was probably the last Wolfenstein game to have the tone of Wolfenstein. Sure, it had COD mechanics, but it had that over the top charm that actually made it fun. Old Blood is the closest MachineGames has and, even then, Blaskowitz's whining really brings down the mood.

The trailers really don't do the game justice. It's a real gem. It's got some flaws, sure, but they are really not a big deal compared to the outstanding shooting mechanics and level design. However it does reuse a lot of the same guns from the previous games, the new RPG-ish system will not appeal to everyone, and it doesn't have a cinematic campaign. So it's not for everybody.

getting kinda tired of the "level up" progression system in modern shooters now a days. Just let me explore the game and deal with tougher enemies my way regardless of whether I have strong enough gear or not.

It's such a lazy excuse for "Gameplay". they can take their leveling up system and loot and stick it, the same place where quicktime events went, to hell.
I think I've reached that point too. In an actual RPG like Divinity or Pillars of Eternity, I'm fine with it, but I miss the days in shooters where they didn't have dumb shit like this. I think the last shooting game I stuck with long enough to finish was Far Cry 3.

@@akoyash9964 I'm sorry, I just wasn't a fan of the weapon upgrade system. I always preferred just picking up a gun and using it the way it was intended right away. It mostly felt like a way to pad the game out anyway.

This game should have splitscreen local co op too if I am being honest. Playing with strangers just don't have the same effects as playing with your friends or family in one room together.
Reason why couch co-op is mostly dead is because of how taxing it is to render the scenes of nowadays games twice. Consoles especially aren't able to handle it anymore without the devs doing some magic and even then.

lol...modern consoles have trouble maintaining a stable framerate in singleplayer, in most cases splitscreen is out of the question.
Even when it does work (i.e. Gears 4) they have to straight up cut the fps in half *and* add black bars to the screen to compensate. But even in the 90's/2000's when splitscreen was more popular, these kinds of shortcuts usually had to be taken to accommodate splitscreen. People were just more accepting of shit performance back then.
Microtransactions: You should look into the psychology behind microtransactions to understand why guys like Jim Sterling don't think they belong in paid-for games at all.

I would love it if arkane got to work on it without machinegames. They did a great job with dishonored and prey. Besides I allways wanted wolfenstein to have level design and maybe some aspects of gameplay even from dishonored

Look at Oblivion in 2006. When the horse armor came out for 3$, which was completely cosmetic, everyone was going apeshit. Today, a Fortnite skin costs 10$, so do skins in Overwatch which alone costs 40$, and now it’s okay cuz it’s cosmetic? Not long before it will be okay for fullpriced games to be pay2win!

Wolfenstein Youngblood is a modern version of Half-Life Decay, if you think about it. Both are spinoffs of a bigger game where you play as two women in power armors trying to drive out an invasion.

I see a health bar above enemies in a Wolfenstein game, I don't buy a Wolfenstein game until there is a certain number next to the price.
Plenty of old school inspired shooters coming out these days. I think being picky is the smart thing to be.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is one of the best first-person shooters of all time in my opinion. Satisfying gunplay, responsive controls, intelligent level design, rewarding exploration, meaningful collectibles that are fun to find, perfect pacing and a gripping story that is mature and fun at the same time, with loveable characters. I also really loved The Old Blood.
On the other hand, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is one of the most disappointing games I've ever played and it just boggles my mind how the team managed to pull of such an inferior game. In some ways, it's some kind of an achievement that the devs managed to f*ck up basically everything that was good about the previous titles.
So I don't know what to expect from Youngblood. It's cool that the Arkane guys are working on the level design and stuff like that (that team is very talented), but in terms of storytelling at least, it looks just as bad as The New Colossus.
Machinegames it's property of ZeniMax/ Bethesda as you see since Doom arrived in 2016 , Wolfenstein turned to shit but it's not because of Machinegames fault its because Idsoftware its also a Zenimax/Bethesda studio and they do not wanted competition.
Come on, Doom and Wolfenstein fighting in the same market in the same genre we can't take that risk.. so fuck off Machinegames you just make something different nothing like a good old school first person shooter , with powerful weapons , long gameplay ,with an amazing characters and greater story.
No way, you know what's better? A cinematic experience with shorter gameplay , and then make a game with the same engine (use id tech 6 because id tech 7 it's for Doom Eternal) , guns with lousy rpg elements.
The New Order is a dark twisted action shooter with great atmosphere and characters and show all the horrors of the Nazi regime dailed up to 1000, I Loved it.

@@KeenanDev I mean it could be that a burst of bullets to take down an enemy with a headshot. Not necessarily like 10 shots-ish.
For me health bars could work for threat assessment. Like how much damage a weapon can inflict on certain enemies, a bit like cheating to see what weapon is most effective on what enemy. It can add tension in boss battles (souls like games for example).
Also it can work satisfactorily if done right. There's something so fun about removing a large chunk of red from a bar and seeing how much damage you're doing.

And there is nothing less cinematic and immersive than having a shootout with bullet sponges with health bars, levels and names over their heads. There is absolutely no reason to force RPG elements into a Wolfenstein game.

I mean can't Machine games take some liberty in design? Previous Wolfenstein games had elements of supernatural, sci fi and horror. And even several have rpg mechanics like Wolf 2009 and mods like BoA added some rpg stuff and even healthbars for tougher enemies.
I played New Order and loved it. With more emphasis on gameplay compared to the previous title.
And even if it doesn't succeed as a wolfenstein sequel, it can still be a good game by itself.
I guess my point is these mechanics don't ruin the game. Like how ironsights didn't ruin modern wolfenstein games for older wolfenstein players.

Man Gman made this sound way more fun than it is, me and my friend played it and it was one of the most boring games we’ve played. The only good thing this game had was the gun play and your friend can join the game without buying another copy. Overall it was a 3/10 for me

New order in terms of story had a pretty solid tone, old blood felt like a old school shooter idk what happened to the studio for Wolf 2 and this game.

Gameplay wise it Wolf 2 wasn’t bad, I like the hatchet kills, the dual gun combos and... oh, well shit that’s pretty much it, level designs took a step back, the story and new characters are definetly way inferior, weapon upgrades are less interesting than TNO (underbarrel rocket launcher changed to semi-auto marksman mode, richoet rounds to triple shot) they made you way weaker (even on normal I had difficulties often), they didn’t even bother to create new alternate songs just added the same you could collect in TNO, story is meh, they turned Frau Engel into a joke villian, hell all the new characters are jokes. Also no boss fights, the open world element is nothing but revisiting levels you’ve already completed, the old characters are either dead or lost what made them loveable (Wyatt’s always high and Fergus is keep fucking around with his arm, Anya should have no fucking business on the frontline pregnant and don’t even get me started on that grenade scene in at the end of the game), an attrocious goddamn credits, and the Season Pass is even more garbage
What I hate the most of all is how Wolf lost it’s seriousness, they took the idea of the Nazi’s winning the war and took it seriously, and I absolutely loved it.
And now all on top of this pile of trash, they add this Borderlands wanna be RPG Coop shooter, with these obnoxious twins, generic plot and generic ass villians and even have the balls to add microtransactions to all of this.
It breaks my heart that they resurrected this beloved series, only to massacre it so brutally. I will always love TNO and TOB, but I’d rather consider TNO a sad end than TNC a true sequel.

And I sure as hell feel bad pre-ordering the collectors edition of it, it looked super cool from the trailers and what they showed, and I just thought “It a game about killing nazis, how could they screw this up?”

I played by myself, very much on purpose. Every time I play one of these games that encourages you to play with someone it always turns into some kind of competition where the other guy just wants to go go go and I want to take my time and take everything in. I hate that feeling and it takes the fun out of it. I played alone and had a good time. The only frustration was the other sister sometimes ignoring me when I was downed but it's better than feeling useless when playing with some rando with 1700 hours into the game.

@ Dusk dont have a gore :D In Wolfenstein you can shoot off limbs of enemies, or part of meat from body, with a lot of blood and guts around. In Dusk you dont have even wounds on body, because graphic is to weak :D

I wasn't a fan of new order either, but I highly recommend Oldblood, the standalone expansion for new order. It's almost as fun as return to castle Wolfenstein

I thought we were past the forced RPG mechanics in games that don't need them stage. Every shooter and beat 'em up getting RPG mechanics stuffed in to make a game drag out isn't helping the game. Especially if you want to play with someone new- WELP better make a new character or you'll be too lopsided to work together.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I can't even name one from those days. I enjoyed everything from Golden Axe to Streets of Rage and the Power Rangers beat 'em ups.
I recall it starting with Castle Crashers and Scott Pilgrim, both fine games but really made co-op tedious with the mechanics.
Not saying they CAN'T be good but it really makes it hard to have drop in, drop out co-op.

To be fair, if Wolfenstein: Youngblood were to be done _correctly,_ I think that they would have a single player campaign (developed by MachineGames) that has you play as one of the Blaskowicz Daughters as they uncover a paranormal menace about to be unleashed by the Nazis (a la Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Wolf '09 and The Old Blood), and make what we ended up getting in the final product the multiplayer component (developed by Arkane).
That way, not only would people not be disappointed by the final product, but we'd get a semi-true sequel to RTCW set in the MachineGames canon! How cool would that've been?
better than this, you can keep the micro transations for the multiplayer crap. wolf 1 was excellent, wolf 2 was really dissapointing in various ways and wolf 3 the story is less cringy maybe but still bad and the game looks like rage 1 or borderlands 1 in terms of gameplay. in the 1992 wolf game you could beat the final boss with your starting weapons without taking a hit if you had the skills to kill mecha hitler in the latest wolf 3 game you cannot kill a enemy who is too high of a level for you until you grind like you would in a shit RPG until you can beat that enemy, grind too much too easy grind too little its not fair as getting one shot killed by hit scan enemies who it would take thousands of bullets to kill is really not fun. just go play wolf 1.

It's hard to get through a game with protagonists who swear every 5 minutes and act like they are the hottest thing ever.
Solution to unappealing protagonist dialogue; turn on subtitles and put voice volume on 0%. I do this in all games i can, because it gives a more classic feel.
7:01 Ugh, I've never been a fan of guns doing more damage based on your level,that's just lazy game design.
If anything, I wish they'd taken a hint from Gothic - in that game, your sword or mace or whatever deals the same damage regardless of your skill level, however your guy becomes noticeably less awkward when he swings his weapon the higher his skill with that weapon - and this is a game that came out almost 20 years ago.
i know that this is an old comment but I have to say that would probably go by far worse with people, making the initial game just feel bad to play with the gunplay would only turn people off and not bother getting to where the combat would get better. Gothics take on leveling up is interesting but Gothic isn't a classic because of its combat anyway
@@joedatius Yeah you're probably right - VTMB's ranged combat, for instance, made your character's aim terrible if you didn't pour quite a few points into your firearms and perception perks and people hated it to the point that almost no-one bothered with guns in that game.
But tbh personally I would have avoided the issue entirely and just let Wolfenstein be a traditional shooter, without any hackneyed RPG mechanics at all.
I'm honestly most concerned with the pacing of the game. The first 2 games are marred by the boring, story segments, which completely destroy the pacing. Wouldn't be as much of a problem if they were skippable. Another potential issue is having enough variety in combat to keep the gameplay loop feeling fresh, considering it's going for an open world design, however, I trust in Arcane Studios' ability to do so given their work on Dishonored.
Nothing I love more in my Wolfenstein Nazi shooter then looter shooter mechanics, daily and weekly challenges, premium currency and microtransactions for upgrades and cosmetics.
I only tested the game and instantly hated these gross psychopath protagonists.
Killing Nazis in any fictional game is good.

I think this game is a blast. Maybe it has its issues but it nails the combat. Straight up power-trip, with all of the amped up mobility and abilities. Like how crysis would feel if it was more intuitive and faster paced.
I bought the deluxe edition and have been playing this with a friend. We've had a lot of fun, it's not often that two guys in their 30's get to call each other sister all the time. Also the characters feel like satirical caricatures of SJW's rather than serious ones, they're that extreme.
The guns become different ones when you modify them far enough. My strongest rifle is a sniper rifle while for my buddy the same weapon works like a shotgun.
The game revolves heavily around the idea that you buy it to play it together with a friend. Don't buy it for a single player experience, this is not like the previous Wolfenstein games, this is a spin-off game from a different genre.

I agree me and my friend both in our 30's have been enjoying this. For the price its not bad at all and i find the banter between the two kids pretty funny to be honest, i'm pretty astounded at the general opinon on this game. I'd have explained that the "rpg" leveling is because of the inexperience of the girls not being a Nazi killing machine like their dad and as for the microstransactions being there i couldnt care less because i dont buy them.

I rarely play a game for its story, good story is a bonus, and if I hate a character I just ignore them. Gameplay is the biggest factor for me, and every 5 months or so I redownload thos game and screw around for a few days...its got a good loop with the major exception of damage types...that is just ridiculous.
I'll be honest, it just comes off as lazy. If the whole point of the leveling system is just to get in your way of completing the game, well, we used to have actual, literal levels of the game for that. Breath of the Wild lets you go to Ganon right out of the gate if you think you can make it and take him, and games like Far Cry 3 got it mostly right because Jason Brody unlocked new ways to kill. In both cases you are as strong and as confident as your character, and the side quests are either because they are fun or because they align with what the player wants to do. Leveling as a method to make you think you are progressing is bullshit, and making it mandatory lest the enemies suddenly become immune to high velocity lead slung at their foreheads is doubly so.

Senua from Hellblade, Amicia de Rune from Plague Tale, are some great examples of awesome female leads from recent releases. The Wokenstein twins are obnoxious garbage, and would have been roasted alive by the internet if they were men.

I refunded this game. Constantly rekilling all the enemys in areas you have to go through multiple times is a cardinal sin. Especially if the enemys are spongebobby as fuck. That's not fun, that's timewasting to lengthen the game.
Nothing ruins all sense of immersion like healthbars and bullet sponge enemies.

Another fun fact, this is the first wolfenstein game that isn't censored in germany. So no more weird patches for us anymore, which technically are considered illegal.
It is a mess. This becomes obvious when you finish the game. Many people were left with an unplayable game at the last boss fight, after investing serious time into it. I experienced this twice, thinking the first time was a fluke and going back to level up more.
