Saddened by how blurry the PS5 version is. Hope they can fix that (and all the many other issues)… Update: To be clear, I’m not talking about the lens distortion or any of the other settings. I’m referring to the comparison @2:06 in the video. *New Update*: Capcom just patched the game to greatly improve both the image quality on PS5 and the analog stick deadzone on Xbox/PC!
Appreciate your guys reviews on this! You’re the only people who’ve I’ve seen mention the motion and visual issues. Will definitely be waiting on this as a result. Thanks as always DF!
Well, many reviewers just follow the current hype train, whereas DF made a name for themselves by not letting issues slide by. That said I am surprised that they didn't mention how nauseating this game feels because of the constant change in FOV and the annoying inertia of the character (at least based on the PC demo). I personally find it very unpleasant to play ...
Sadly DF seems to be one of the few medias that points technical issues in their reviews, as others medias seem to afraid of being blacklisted by game publishers. Elden Ring receiving 10/10 while having several issues and being extremely unoptimized made me stop considering the opinions of gaming journalists. TBH, I don't know how DF still receives review copies from publishers.
@@offspringfan89 Because they do it in a decent way, without disrespecting the craft. And the most devs are thankful for their work, because it shows the publishers, that they really need more time to optimize the game as much as possible
I recently finished the game on a PS4 Slim, aside for the low resolution on the textures the game works pretty decent for my eyes, my biggest complaint was when I use the Sniper Rifle, the zoom low the fps a lot and sometimes is really annoying to aim, specially against regenerators, and another FPS's drop was against a certain boss near the end. But at the end was a good experience, hope the fix at least the issues with the Sniper Rifle (and the textures too)
Great work Oliver! Agree that this is a visually stunning, faithful remake, but technically flawed in a few ways. It's baffling that Capcom hasn't implemented a functioning 30fps cap on console after so many years and remake efforts. They've also avoided proper upscaling methods like FSR (on console) and DLSS, which is weird since that sort of tech has been readily available for a while now. Would be great to see checkerboarding swapped out for FSR 2 on the console versions.
I am wondering if xbox uses some sort of fsr 2 with the added delay on controller inputs or added to interlaced reconstruction technique that Capcom uses on re engine
@@sellingacoerwa8318 to clarify, I meant an optional 30fps cap when using resolution mode (and RT/Hair Strands) and for last-gen versions. Obviously performance mode should target 60fps. I personally prefer a locked 30fps with proper framepacing to fluctuating 30s-50s since I don’t have a vrr display.
@hroniskostopoulos4433 Both of those games mentioned are exclusive titles so obviously they will look better. You aren't going to get the same level of optimisation in third party titles as you do with exclusives.
@Hronis Kostopoulos Comparing exclusives to multi-platform games is pretty unfair. Obviously a game that was designed for one specific system will be better optimized since they know EXACTLY what kind of hardware the game will be running on, compared to a multi-platform game that needs to run on anything from a super high-end PC, to a range of consoles, to even the Steam Deck.
Frame rate mode should have had a resolution of 1440p to keep the frame rate more stable. All current gen games should just have performance mode at 1440p with RT.
@@randybobandy9828 That's only if the display has to do the scaling. In this case the console does it which has good results, and devs can also implement higher quality upscaling methods if they want.
@@PositronCannon even if the console does the scaling it's never as sharp as a native resolution or quarter resolution like 1080p on a 4k screen. 1080p is a perfect 4:1 so it will still look sharp
@@randybobandy9828 There are plenty of games that render at 1440p and look just fine on a 4K display, definitely better than 1080p games do. Especially if they use reconstruction methods.
I've been playing on PS4 and I really wish they'd at least give the option for locked 30fps. The frame rate can vary by large amounts very quickly and the first time it happened it actually made me feel a bit sick. That being said, it's a fantastic game and I've been having a really good time despite the technical issues.
I dont know whats up with Capcom and not including 30fps lock options for last gen. I really hope they patch that in because that would improve the experience significantly for those players.
Got this yesterday morning for the PS5 and I've already played over 50% of the game, really enjoying the game . I've set the resolution to resolution mode and for the most part it plays and looks great, I did notice this morning that during a section of the game outside where it was raining heavily and very windy the game seemed to struggle slightly, it was noticeable. As soon as I took Leon inside the gameplay was very smooth again. Not a deal breaker for me personally, one of the few games I've spent so much time on in one go. Thanks for your take on this awesome game DF.
That part of the game appears to be very intensive. I’m not sure what on whether it’s the CPU or GPU, but it put my pc under serious pressure. I’ve got a gtx 1080 so fairly old now, and was getting 70-90fps on 1080p ultra with a couple of things turned down, then I hit the windy rain section of the village and it dropped massively, all the way down to like 40 and even 35 fps. Shocked me Tbh, but soon as I got through that section it’s back up to 70+ fps again.
@ESKATEUK I've got the same issues with my 12900k paired with an RTX 4090. This part of the game in question is poorly optimised as my CPU usage won't go above 26%, and because of this, my GPU is being bottlenecked by as much as 22%.
Great work Oliver. Much respect for saying it how it is, no sugar coating. Everything backed up with examples and data which hopefully the devs can use to improve the game.
It looks exactly as the issue happening in Horizon on performance mode... I played Horizon a few days and it's really impressive how much sharper it looks now! Hope they can fix it too here.
@@R1Spami think many casual players would disagree... Personally I'm never going back to 30 even as a casual gamer but most "normies" just don't give such things too much thought and want the graphics at max😢
I am 99,9 percent sure they simply need to make changes to the Anti-Aliasing. That is the fix for the PS5 version. Sounds simple but maybe it is not simple. It is exactly the same thing like in Horizon before the performance mode patch. After the patch Horizon was super clean. This at least fixes the overall frizzy look. I extra downloaded the RE2 Remake PS5 version and the Anti-Aliasing is leagues above, just a look at Leon's hair in game is day and night compared to the frizzy R4.
I played it on PS4 and the most noticeable stand out was some big doors were a bit blurry but it's a minor issue for me as through my play through the game was pretty smooth and I comfortably played through the game and had nothing bad happen. Obviously you want ps5 or pc but it's still playable on PS4.
Yeah, I'm playing on PS4 as well, and some textures are really low resolution for some reason. Not all textures are, just some random ones sprinkled throughout the game.
Its not the PS4s fault, its all about optimisation! The PS4 is a beast of a console, can handle games like uncharted 4 or the last of 2 us, so why not this game?! They drop the resolution just to sell you this stupid next gen PS5, its all about money making. very sad
@DigitalFoundry Guys, I noticed a little stuttering in the village, but when I came to the castle (meeting with Garrador), the stuttering began to rage. This is most obvious when meeting Novistador. Please report these issues to CAPCOM! PS5/Any mode
@DeMiDroL they are not happy with the performance and are encouraging Capcom to get to work fixing these issues. Knowing Capcom, though, they likely won't address many of them and only focus on gameplay bugs. It's sad that most of their current gen titles require a VRR capable display to enjoy them to the fullest. I have one, but the majority of the install base very likely does not. I understand you've said English is a second language, if I need to break this down simpler, let me know. Not trying to insult you, just want you to understand the situation further.
@@DimetriusYT based on the video its better to play in either fps mode for best fps no rt or hairworks and disable chromatic or res mode for better image quality so just dont enable rt or hairworks since they are poor in this game
Ps5 issues I’ve noticed: blurrier compared to re2 and re3 remake and some stuttering in the village section, I’m playing on resolution mode with everything turned off
Starting with Resident Evil 7, every game in the series released on Series S so far featured Ray-tracing so it's nice that RE4 Remake kept it for some degree.
So much texture blur and pop in, had to exchange for the Series X version. A shame as RE2 and RE3 remake are the same engine and didn't have any of that.
The hair strand thing is so weird because for the PC demo I swear it was reversed. Where the card based hair was completely matte but the strand one actually had some specularity.
@@MaxIronsThird He does. He points out that the PS5 version is the only/main one with the odd looming Hair Strands (or both console versions) and the PC version looks better overall. However, idk what the OP is talking about, the card based hair didn’t look matte at all
Been playing it on series x with my Oled tv and it's great. Ive got RT on frame rate mode on. It plays and looks fine. It take 2 or so seconds for textures to pop in but that don't bother me. Some areas look to dark and some to bright but it's really not that bad. They will fix these issues I'm sure.
Great work as always! One series I'd like to see an analysis from you guys is the Atelier series (Ryza 3 launched yesterday), specially since Gust improved a lot from Ryza 1 -> Ryza 2 -> Sophie 2 -> Ryza 3 (4 games in 5 years), tackling now in the recent title an "open world" of sorts. It is amazing considering the budget they normally have and the disparity in tech quality compared with the recent Pokémon titles, for example (that have way more budget and personnel working). Thanks!
@@blushingralseiuwu2222 , performance-wise, yes. But from Ryza 1 -> 2 -> 3 there was a lot of improvement (they crammed Ryza 1's entire map + extras into one of the regions of 3, without loadings) and this would be good to see an analysis. Also, compare to Pokémon for bonus picking on Gamefreak hahaha
It still looks like a spruced up PS3 game. Yes the world I'd open but it is certainly not a technical marvel. It's old, dated, and far from cutting edge.
Aiming dead zone issues can be fix/improved bigtime. By changing these settings. Camera acceleration: Normal gameplay set to max. When aiming setting set to the middle setting. These camera tweaks work on every version of the game and improved aiming bigtime even on xbox.
Another controller-specific issue, but the gyro aiming feels like it has a dead zone & not exactly mouse-like as in the games with better gyro implementations (Fortnite, Splatoon, Metroid Prime Remastered, GoW Ragnarök, etc.). Not to mention no separate gyro sensitivity settings & vertical right stick camera being disabled when holding L2 (which doesn’t make sense unless you’re doing flick stick), so hopefully all that gets addressed. As for general performance, I’m curious if we’ll get similar results from Street Fighter 6 (available on the same systems as RE4 Remake). We haven’t seen the PS4 version of that game once, with even the betas being current-gen only.
@@titan6062 Which brings me to my other points regarding the need for separate gyro settings. Likewise, gyro should simulate a mouse, not a controller. So I'm not sure what Capcom was thinking there.
No way to turn off acceleration too, I also don't like how the recital still sways a bit towords moved direction when movement has stopped, thankfully on pc you can just set the gyro to act like mouse, though sadly that's not an option on console.
8:37 Disagree with the options, I think they're great to have. You have a point about the optimization of the framerates need to be better but I don't think having the options themselves are bad. Console needs to have more settings, not less. I will also agree with a 30FPS cap is a good option to have if one wants a lower but more stable experience, even if I will never ever touch such an option due to preference.
PS5 Version here. So,it doesn't matter if I play on Frame rate or Resolution mode, the game has its hiccups, like stutter. I have LG OLED C2 and VRR info doesn't show frame drops during these,so I think it's stuttering. Textures streaming from low res to regular about a second after exiting from the attache case. With bad movement from Mr. Kennedy, and him being a government agent, I just can't think of why are ganados outrunning and outmaneuvering me. The aiming is also worse than RE2/3 Remake, and gyro aiming needs to be like in RE Village. Too bad. It's a fun game but could be much more if they address these issues
These games are best played in VR where you physically hold the weapons in your hands and aim like in real life. It requires much more skill than using a controller. Resident evil village on psvr2 is a fantastic example of this. Having to keep your nerve and physically reach into your pouch on your belt to grab a clip and then physically reload your weapon while werewolves are charging towards you takes a lot of nerve. The fact the enemy are life sized or often tower above you in VR makes them extremely intimidating as well. As everything is in stereoscopic 3d and looks almost real it tricks your brain into thinking you are in a real life scenario and panic sets in. Resident evil village on psvr2 is a revolutionary gaming experience and the resident evil 4 remake VR mode which is coming has potential to be even better.
Agreed. The way you get haptics in your head when you use the shotgun in resi8 made me jump the first few times😂😂😂😂😂. That combined with the haptic feedback from the controllers and the resistant triggers and the load bang made me think I had fired a real shotgun. Maybe need to turn the volume down😅😅😅😅😅. It's so immersive in VR. I was sceptical at first, but wow its something else. Even replaying old games in VR makes them feel brand new. The psvr2 has bought back my love of gaming after It was getting stale.
@@tronsaibeeBeen gaming for nearly 50 years and feel the same. Was growing bored of gaming. PSVR2 has changed all that and bought back the magic. It's like nothing I've ever experienced. Great video, I understand your recommendations for console modes but disagree with them, as an XSX player with VRR I am very glad that it's up to me and that my options are greater than usual. Sub 50hz with VRR is vastly superior to a locked 30hz in my experience.
I think the modes they have for targeting 60 fps but even though "resolution mode" will not be anywhere close to that was the right choice. Next consoles with backwards compatibility will let this run great in "resolution mode" as right now, it's best to use "frame rate mode".

I'm 63 and have spent thousands of hard earned pounds on import consoles and gaming pcs and then came res4 which made me buy a game cube and is by far my favourite game..I now have an xbox series x and have been counting the days down for this game to get updated and having listened to digital foundry I am putting off buying it until the play mechanics has been sorted..I'm so disappointed in what I've heard because others give the game a faultless score but I believe in this channel
Exactly my own situation. I already regret my purchase because I love Resident Evil, however the issues with the controls on Xbox are making it unplayable to me. I get to the village section and they absolutely ruined me couple of times, of course when half of the right analog stick is nonfunctional during the whole aiming!
Seeing the compromises they had to make to run acceptably on PS4 makes me curious what an Xbox One version would look like given that it's a bit weaker. As I don't have money for an Xbox Series X or a PS5 I'm happy to be able to play this game on the PS4 even with all the downgrades, for me it's impressive that a 10 year old console still receives games like this, Capcom really closed the cycle on this console with a golden key with this.
The Xbox One X would probably run decent, but if they wanted to support that they had to support the base model too. Probably would run like ps4 but in 720p ot so
@@timdumoulin2576not true at all, if the ps4 is running it so can the xbox one. the xbox one could hit 720-900p. The reason it’s not on the original xbox one is the series s exists not because xbox one is too weak. Instead of selling a budget console like xbox Sony is just milking its customers by selling 10 year old hardware for 299$.
The main difference between the xbox one and ps4 is the ps4 having much much higher throughput on the RAM. The RAM is the reason why so many multiplats ran at 900p on xbox despite being more than capable from a gpu horsepower perspective to run at 1080p. There has been massive stuttering issues on PC in certain areas linked to people who have CPUs that exceed the minimum requirement cpu but is on an older DDR3 platform with much slower RAM than Capcom tested for. This is very much a next gen title that was back ported to previous gen rather than the other way around. Back with village they planned to drop previous gen support if making the game run on them required changed to level design and such, same here it looks like.
We definitely do need more original ideas, but remakes such as this aren’t lazy cash grabs. You can tell a lot of love was put into this game and I’m fine with it.
This is probably naïve but I see that a lot of issues regarding the image quality on consoles were found in the performance mode of Horizon: Forbidden West, especially with vegetation, but a couple months after Horizon's release, Guerilla released a patch which substantially improved the image quality in performance mode. Guerilla and Capcom are completely different developers plus Horizon was optimized specifically for PS5 and PS4 but I'm really hoping a patch will be released for consoles to improve the visual quality and framerate like Guerilla did for Horizon.
They need to start making all games for current gen consoles only ( PS5/ Series X ) and forget about cross gen, this game should look much better than it does, even though I am loving it on Series X so far.
I wonder if ps4 pro version running on ps5 can hold 60 fps fine then, that was the preferred way to play Elden Ring for many people because of that consistency.
I don't agree with limiting the game to a 60fps and 30fps mode. I'm quite happy playing it on resolution mode with RT despite a couple drops here and there and I'd be happier to keep that decision available to me.
9:09 I’m glad you mention that neither platform feels perfect in terms of the controls-issue. Even on PS5 it’s currently a deal-breaker for me, so I feel for the Xbox users are getting an even worse experience! I really hope Capcom address this issue.
I rather play on smooth buttery frames. I mean what’s the point of playing a game with high resolution when frames drop to low 30s and has sluggish controllers. Majority will be playing on frame rate anyway.
PS5 here. I played resolution mode with RT and finished it today. Played very well all things considered, the only area where the fps May struggle is the beginning and the lake. Other than that I never noticed any substantial or immersion breaking drops.
on my third playthrough on ps4 pro, you can definitely notice sub 60fps drops at times but id say its more than playable, and will make for a perfect swan song for the last generation for me
PS4 Pro is my most loved console, specially if you have one that is not the black one. I have the white version and I think it looks gorgeous. I think of playing it for 2 years more and then sell it and buy a PS5 Slim with better aesthetics and smaller footprint. The router looking PS5 can "go straight to hell".
im starting to realize that these videos sometimes affect my purchase of a game. but, when I do actually play some of the games with visual problems I really honestly dont notice them much. maybe because I grew up with older consoles, maybe its my eyesight, I dunno. but latley, im starting to take these videos alittle less seriously. regardless, this is still great coverage.
Would have been interesting for Digital Foundry to try out the PS4 Pro version on PS5. Like with Elden Ring, it might be the only way to get a locked 60fps. I have some faith that Capcom will try fix these issues but ... we'll see.
The deadzone issue on xbox series is a non issue if you own an elite. But need to be patched for normal controller. Capcom need to patch this asap. Can't be a hard fix.
If they dont patch it, I will totally regret this purchase. Its nonplayable for me, why should I aim so bad when in previous Resident Evil games I were almost an aim God! Im expecting a patch, update or something. This is seriously bad!
Thank you for the tip with the Elite. Changed the sensitivity curve to aggressive in the controller app and it's smooth as hell now. Anyone on XSX with an Elite 2 do it, it's a good fix. Still annoying they didn't optimize this in the first place though.
What ever happened to 30fps lock options in console games? I remember bioshock has this setting and while it never came close to 60 fps it should be up to the individual whether it's worth unlocking the framerate. The lack of this option is especially egregious in games with poor frame pacing that could have been boosted by the power of the ps5. Now we have this game which will probably get a patch that locks the framerate to 30 fps in its fidelity modes and add insult to injury by having poor frame pacing. These issues stand out so much more in what would otherwise be a rather solid release.
I love all the hype before PS5/xsx release when they were bragging about "4k 120fps raytracing" and most uneducated people believe it. I was like there is no way they will have modern AAA games running at 4k 120fps.. let alone with ray tracing. We are right back to the same 30fps-60fps games like the previous generations. Only old or indie games will run 120fps4k. Companies will always focus on graphics over frame rate so new games will never see 120fps unless it's 1080p.
@@randybobandy9828 Yeah current gen textures and graphics at 4k (or any resolution) look completely different (better) to last gen textures and graphics. You can see this in side by side comparison videos with PS4 Pro/XBO games versus the same game on PS5/XSX. So it make sense that frame rate and resolution will always be the challenges on current gen consoles. Some people don't get it
They should focus on 60fps, since less than 1% of people have a true HDMI 2.1+ 120hz display, most displays are still 60hz. The power needed to double the frame rate would always be better used doubling the resolution, which is why games that give you a choice reduce resolution significantly for 120fps. You don’t want to handicap a game for 99% of people just so that 1% of people can play 4k120.
Im still wondering which version of this to buy as I own both the PS 5 and X Box Series X. One review said there was an issue with the Series X version of this game where the controls felt heavier.
Both have issues. I would say as a positive for Xbox, if you have a VRR capable TV then the framerate is much smoother on Series X because of the superior VRR implementation.
A lot of this can definitely be reigned-in for tighter experiences on consoles. Some baffling decisions on the optimization here across all consoles. That Xbox Series analog deadzone needs fixed yesterday! How did that get past QA? Also, what's the deal with unlocked framerates on last-gen consoles? Are they insane?
I play on PS5 (Resolution + RT) on a non-VRR TV and tbh, despite hearing so much about sub-60 fps drops in games on this channel and how it ruins the experience, most of the time I never notice it. I did disable lens distortion/chromatic aberration but besides that, I just don't "feel" choppiness and the likes from sub-60 fps (especially in RE remakes). Just always feel smooth to me.
Judging by these analyses as well as what we saw in the demo, it kind of feels like this game could have benefited from like a few extra months of polish for all the different versions of the game. Given how many platforms and modes are on offer, I would have thought that there would have been a bigger time gap between the demo and the game release itself. This could have possibly offered up additional feedback and maybe could have been implemented by release but alas we're just stuck waiting for patches which has become the norm for most modern games.
I played it on Xbox Series X with the day one patch. I am going to assume the day-one patch mitigated all the issues that Digital Foundry reported. I play primarily on frame rate with ray tracing and hair strands enabled. I haven't noticed any FPS drops, although sometimes the audio will bug out very rarely.
So far I’ve purchased RE7, 8 and 2 remake and while they’ve all been very fun they’ve also all had minor technical issues that are bothersome. Ray tracing is basically a non option and I’d really like it if they fixed that in this game sooner rather than later.
VRR really is a magical thing. I played the full game on Resolution + ray tracing + hair strands on my series X and only noticed a couple frame dips. Amazing game.
While VRR displays are obviously a great thing, it seems to me some devs use them as a cop-out to cut down on performance tweaking. The vast majority of console gamers these days will probably not have a VRR display, though. So, games really should offer a properly tuned locked frame rate mode, because for most people everything else will just be a choppy mess.
Even FINDING a vrr display is hard. It's no where on most of the descriptions of TV's. I've looked and looked and looked. It's never on the boxes. It's never advertised in store or anything. And I'm on a budget. I don't need the highest end. I just want vrr, hdr, 4k. Don't care about 120. That is the problem though. These companies need to stop doing this but for that to happen consumers need to put their foot down. Too bad fan take one look and go “shiny” and then buy it anyways.
@bromanoski It's virtually impossible for people to NOT buy a game on launch. The point is for the game to be ready at launch for that reason. It's a developer issue as well. I’m playing in frame rate mode on ps5 with no extra options enabled and I’m getting a lot of tiny stutters when walking through certain areas which is making me think there’s traversal stutter. Anyone else notice this?
Jeah man, I get hiccups all the time. While in movement and panning the camera. It is worse than Dead Space Remake for Ps5. Most of these traversal stutters happen, when you move from one area to the next in Dead Space. But in RE4 Remake it happens DURING gameplay. It is a shame to be honest.
I really would’ve loved to see this game on One X. That would’ve been an interesting comparison with the Series S. Damn OG XB1, it’s a shame that, that console is the reason the One X misses out.
The deadzone issue on Xbox is really disappointing and it’s only because of DF and a couple other outlets that I knew to look out for it in the RE4 demo. It helped me make the decision to pick up RE4 for PS5 instead of my preferred Series X. I really hope this gets addressed.

The controller and head haptics are also brilliantly implemented. Go have a look at the trailer of Resi 8 on psvr2 or see some playthroughs to see how impressive this game is.
@@drewmuch there’s no delay on controller output. The dead zone is too high

1440p doesn't scale well on a 4k tv.
@@randybobandy9828 That's only if the display has to do the scaling. In this case the console does it which has good results, and devs can also implement higher quality upscaling methods if they want.

Aiming dead zone issues can be fix/improved bigtime. By changing these settings. Camera acceleration: Normal gameplay set to max. When aiming setting set to the middle setting. These camera tweaks work on every version of the game and improved aiming bigtime even on xbox.
Where is the optional 30 fps lock? Especially base PS4 really needs it.
I think the gyro aiming is just directly tied to regular aiming settings, it's basically emulating the joystick.

It's IMPRESSIVE just how GREAT RE4 looked originally, way back when it was exclusive to the 'new' Nintendo Gamecube!
Cool story bro
It came out in 2005, at the end of the GameCube's lifecycle. So not sure what you're trying to say with 'new'.
Wait this game launched on GameCube? I mean wow it looks more like a 360 gen game.
@Jesse Powell I know but still those visuals on GameCube hardware is very impressive, even at the end of the generation.
Would have been interesting for Digital Foundry to try out the PS4 Pro version on PS5. Like with Elden Ring, it might be the only way to get a locked 60fps. I have some faith that Capcom will try fix these issues but ... we'll see.
Ps5 60p version already locked at 60fps
Re: Xbox Series S
Tom: Kill it with fire!
Oliver: Performance is fine for the hardware.
Not that many console games had framerate locks, and in Bioshock's case, it was just vsync on or off.
@@joemamr710 lol.. no game is going to be 120hz 4k...no new triple a game that is. Maybe a decade old game could be.
Im still wondering which version of this to buy as I own both the PS 5 and X Box Series X. One review said there was an issue with the Series X version of this game where the controls felt heavier.
Ps5 has an aliasing glitch. Xbox has a bug with the deadzones so aiming is messed up. So it’s either worse visuals or worse controls.
I am playing it on Series X and dont see any issues with the controls.
Both have issues. I would say as a positive for Xbox, if you have a VRR capable TV then the framerate is much smoother on Series X because of the superior VRR implementation.
If the demo is still up you could try the Series X controls to see if you have any problems.
PS5 will have some kind of VR mode if that floats your boat.
I hope frame rate mode gets even more polished with updates.
Thanks OliMac, picked it up for the Series X in the end, valuable insight - ta
Judging by these analyses as well as what we saw in the demo, it kind of feels like this game could have benefited from like a few extra months of polish for all the different versions of the game. Given how many platforms and modes are on offer, I would have thought that there would have been a bigger time gap between the demo and the game release itself. This could have possibly offered up additional feedback and maybe could have been implemented by release but alas we're just stuck waiting for patches which has become the norm for most modern games.
Yeah it sucks
I played it on Xbox Series X with the day one patch. I am going to assume the day-one patch mitigated all the issues that Digital Foundry reported. I play primarily on frame rate with ray tracing and hair strands enabled. I haven't noticed any FPS drops, although sometimes the audio will bug out very rarely.
This video should come out before the “tech review” by John.
Now after the update the game looks noticeably worse on Xbox. Aliasing all over the place that wasn't there before..
Killer feature.
They really need to fix the graphical issues on PS5 ASAP. It looks terrible to me. They also need to fix the deadzones on Xbox.
Well, I'm glad I actually have some games in the backlog, I'll wait for some patches to fix these issues, specially the dead zone thing on xbox.
And every article for TV's for next gen, are showing you the best of the best that's out of my price range.

Those settings you recommend aren’t great. You’re going to be dropping under 48 fps alot making VRR pointless basically.
On xbox you might be able to use max settings. But on ps5 you probably want to play on frame rate mode with RT to stay over 48 FPS.

They simply need to make changes to the Anti-Aliasing. That is the fix for the PS5 version. Sounds simple but maybe it is not simple. It is exactly the same thing like in Horizon before the performance mode patch. After the patch Horizon was super clean.
I can't believe how little they reach 4k 60fps now. Was that not supposed to be the new standard? They advertise 8k, I guess that would be at 15fps. I love my ps5, but I'm disappointed in the level that most developers are working towards.
Here’s hoping for performance and visual patches. This is Capcom’s biggest game in years so they should have delayed it to make sure the game didn’t release with random performance issues and blurred visuals. I like RE Engine, but the inconsistency can sometimes be very disappointing.
I’ll be saving my $60 for now. Maybe wait for a price drop. I played RE4 like 10 times through the years, so $60 is too much for this anyway.
