Gosh, Brit - your reactions are awesome! I'm an older lady now, but Hall & Oates was such a favorite of mine! An ideal combo of the blues, jazz, rock...
I so appreciate that you've discovered "my music" - it's a happifying thing, and I love listening along. ❤

This was Marvin's cry out song before tragedy stroke.. He knew exactly was was "going on" with his father, and that makes this son, aside beautiful, resptable sublime.... A great cover by H&O.

If you want to hear more of John Oates singing lead I would suggest "Possession Obssession" I love the music video for that. Also "Mano a Mano" is a favorite of mine.

You ought to listen to their "Possession Obsession." The thing about it is it is John Oates doing the leads all the way through.

My dad was drafted and served as a United States Marine radio field operator in the Vietnam War. They had a life expectancy of about 5 minutes in combat .He was lucky to come home. He was just a country white guy from West Virginia ,but he always loved this song.. He hated war. RIP my old man .

Best cover ever comes from ROBERT PALMER. He blends a medley of What’s Going On and Mercy Mercy Me with the ultimate blue-eyed soul version. Made with respect. Speaking of soul, this comes before Palmer sold his to produce those one beat pablums for MTV consumers.

I totally agree, 10/10. "What's Goin' On" is not my fave Marvin Gaye, but this is a GREAT interpretation, and I've been down with H&O since "Private Eyes" so I'm gonna listen to ANYTHING they've got to sing at me! 👍👍

Don't ever call Daryl Hall blue eyed soul...
Daryl Hall has described the term "blue-eyed soul" as racist, saying "it assumes I'm coming from the outside. There's always been that thing in America, where if you're a white guy and you're singing or playing in a black idiom, it's like: 'Why is he doing that? Is he from the outside, looking in? Is he copying?

Regarding “come to me with brutality,” I certainly don’t know, but could see Hall & Oates paying respect. That is, the police aren’t apt to punish my blue-eyed self, so let’s not even say it. H & O’s have spent too many music sessions and rehearsals with “we who are darker than blue,” not to…absorb.

Cyndi Lauper had a #12 hit with her sweet, dreamy cover of this off of her 2nd album back in 1987. There was also a pretty good all-star cover in 2001 by Artists Against AIDS Worldwide featuring most of the significant pop stars of the day, including Destiny's Child, Gwen Stefani, Britney and various rap stars. The track is good though the video is a bit heavy-handed.

You haven't reacted to Shania Twain in some time . May I kindly and strongly suggest "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under". But it has to be her live performance from Chicago 2003. Guaranteed to put a smile on your beautiful face.
