I love it too, I didn’t like it when I was a kid and through my twenties and mid 30’s. I did like old music from the 50’s but didn’t get into the show tune. I started listening to all the crooners in my mid 30’s.

I started loving his music when I saw a TV mini-series on him in 1992. I was in my late 30s. Then I watched a documentary on him and got to see several of his live performances in that. I became a fan but only of certain parts of his career.

@@324cmac I was born in Hoboken New Jersey same town as Frank Sinatra so people just assumed I was a fan . Well he was born in 1915 and I was born in 1950 so no the age difference was too great . I was Beatle and rolling stone fan among other rock music but years later like now I like his stuff .

That song, and Sinatra, were emblematic of the era and the American mindset. Men were men and we learned, early on, that no matter how hard we were hit, walk it off. We expected life to be hard and relished the good times. I think this attitude is lost now. It's a damn shame.

SINATRA was known as the voice. He commanded a room like nobody else. Listen to My Way at Madison square garden and OLD MAN RIVER in 1946 when he was 18 to hear what his voice can do....I saw him several times...he made lots of songs with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra and one of his finest is SINATRA AT THE SANDS with Count Basie and his orchestra

A great album that really shows Frank Sinatra’s chops as a jaxz singer is “Sinatra-Basie:An Historic Musical First”, recorded in 1962. Lots of old-school stsndards sung as only Sinstra could sing them.
A great live album is “Sinatra at the Sands”, where he is also acclaimed by The Count Basie Orchestra; check out Come Fly With Me, Fly Me to the Moon, It Was a Very Good Year, and My Kind of Town.
I only really started to appreciate Sinatra about five or ten years ago, I’m 65 right now and he was always “old people’s music” to me. I now know that those old folks were pretty darn wise, and pretty hip, too.

Frank was also part of he famous "Rat Pack" with Errol Flynn, Nat King Cole, Mickey Rooney, Frank Sinatra and others who met casually at the Holmby Hills home of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. In the 1960s, the group featured Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and (before falling out with Sinatra in 1962) Peter Lawford.

Francis Albert. The Chairman of the Board. Ol' Blue Eyes. If you're of a certain age you have lowered the lights in the living room, put Frank on the turntable and cuddled up with your significant other while Frank sealed the deal for you. Listen to The Way You Look Tonight and you can just feel the power of the band behind him. One for My Baby (and One More for the Road) starts with just a piano accompanying Frank as he tells a bartender about a broken live affair and ends with the band easing in for the finish. And, actually, the Johnny Fontaine character in The Godfather was based on Sinatra.

My Mum loved Sinatra so I pretty much absorbed all his songs by osmosis. He was a master of rhythm in the songs (like most singers at that time, although Frank was the best). He wasn't a nice person but, man, he could sing! You should have a listen to "One For My Baby".

I listen to a Sinatra song, and I'm instantly transported back to when I was a kid, riding around with my dad, windows open, and him belting out Sinatra songs with such relish and abandon.

There is a young girl named Sophie who belts out Frank's songs like nobody's biz. She is older now but she started around four. If you find a clip to listen to you will see she is phenomenal.

What most people don’t know about him was he was an a quiet generous man. In his years living in Palm Springs he read their daily paper if someone lost a spouse or financial hardship, Frank sent money, paid their debt or mortgage and they were strangers he gave anonymously.

I kept hearing the backup singers in my head, in all the places they're so sorely missing in this version/performance.
Mr. Sinatra was always good but it's the studio version that's so famous & beloved & the backup singers are a big part of it. I hope you listen to it and/or put it on your playlist.
Thanks, Polo. Frank was of my parents' era but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate him. What a talent & legend. Hope you do more!
"The Best Is Yet To Come" and "The Summer Wind" are classics & worth checking out.

My daughter would sing this song in her car seat from the backseat when she was a little one. Mr. Sinatra (as he was known in my house) calmed her down. Her father and grandfather saw Frank live in concert. He did command the stage from the stories I heard. Nice review as always. Take care 🙂

Frank Sinatra's most memorable feature was his piercing blue eyes and in fact he was called "Old Blue Eyes". Check out Frank and his daughter Nancy singing Something Stupid. Nancy also had solo releases as well as songs she released with Lee Hazlewood.

There’s an old black and white video recording on you tube of Sinatra in the early days , when he was at the height of his initial popularity , singing Cole Porter’s “Night and Day “. Dressed in white tails serenading about a dozen gals playing grand pianos. This will give you a sense how big of an early star he was. It’ll blow your mind…. 🎶
