ill watch this as soon as I wake up I am so glad I started playing this again the week your videos started. Started on the 360 and now we are in 2024 on a laptop haha. I get more excited for these videos than the podcast listen to.
This video, in particular, made me giggle because the conclusion is to wear armor and you kinda convinced me to try experimenting with no armor on. I might never go back from a two-handed weapon and a robe!
whatever is fun! shield from magical sources works the same way, 25% from a shock shield sigil enchant is crazy powerful. Also, being forced to dodge attacks to not get staggered and playing a more dangerous build is also fun. The apprentice sign is my personal favorite because I stay afraid of fireballs.
@theoldknight85 Thank you for the reminder on the elemental shield enchants! The female argonian battlemage I made to follow Grandpa is going to love those because of the apprentice sign.
Not uncommon for more opaque mechanics. For example, Tales of Symphonia (a not unpopular Gamecube game with several ports over the years) has accuracy as a stat, but I only ever found one person who could provide an explanation for it that didn't boil down to 'don't worry about the arcane workings', and they didn't have anything close to an actual formula.
Dude bro, loving the Oblivion content in 2025! If the rumours of an official Oblivion remaster come to fruition, perhaps it could be a killer way to grow your channel as Oblivions put into the spotlight again.
Have you noticed shock attacks have a stun mechanic when enemies have low health? It launches enemies into the air, other magic might do this, but I haven't seen it happen
The knockback aspect of this is especially interesting, where the extra reach and damage of the warhammer actually do something beyond just inflicting extra damage and provides a potential tangible benefit despite having lower damage per second than an enchanted one handed weapon (if that's even true, weapon dps is something else I'm somewhat unclear on beyond knowing that enchants can be applied faster with smaller 1h weapons at the cost of using more charge per enemy)
Love these breakdowns. If possible, I would love to see a similar breakdown of low fatigue on an enemy, including stagger chance and power attack effect chance. I’ve been playing a hand to hand build recently and I run fatigue damaging spells because it’s very fun. I’ve noticed even with normal attack punches which only do 15 base damage, I stagger them and get a lot more effects from my power attacks when an enemy is on low fatigue.
The amount agility contributes to fatigue I would always try and get my agility up to resist knock back late game. I notice my high elf without high agility was getting knocked all over the place at lvl 35+.
the issue with using attributes to increase your max fatigue is that with how the damage formula works, you want your base max fatigue as low as possible, so fortifying it through spells increases your damage by a higher percentage
@@Good_russian_Is-200- sure but increasing agility is simply the worst way to increase your fatigue, that is if fatigue or agility actually affect stagger chance at all. my 1 agility character does not stagger, fwiw.
Thank you for making this Basically it all makes sense more armor rating and heavy armor = more likely of not being staggered Light armor with barely any armor rating or just no armor at all = more likely to to be staggered Someone wrapped up in just pure steel or daedric armor are gonna be able to withstand punishment more and the force behind the weapon hitting them with the armor on will most likely get divided amongst the armor
Hey Old Knight, I want to return to Oblivion, and use your guides and insight. But I don’t know what to do! Could you perhaps make a video about most important things to do first to open up the game? For example mages guild to unlock custom magic. Idk what to do in my starting levels
Add low agility atribute to this, tried low agility boy and got massive knockdowns on me from guards(expert blades), xivilai(those has expert perk too, didn't knew that before that test cause they never throw me in the air while I had normal agility) and especially dremoras archers(thank you expert archery perk for NPC😅) while testing. Done that on late game, with armor cap, agility 4(dremora's help with damage agility claymore enchantment) but zero reflect damage. So pretty usual damage resist. Must say I hadn't those bunch of knockdowns earlier, when played normaly with investments points in agility.
The Agility talk pages include demonstrations that Agility is still very much relevant when it comes to getting staggered. I think I will make a video on my own where I draw some conclusions based on testing
Hey thanks for this demonstration. It does show some things. However, I dont think this video has shown that Agility doesn't has effect on your own stagger chance. I have read demonstrations on the UESP talk page that have concluded that low Agility also plays a large part in getting staggered. Also, Ive read that not having any weapons (or fist) armed, causes you to never be staggered Also, I wonder if Shield spells have an effect on lowering stagger chance. My guess is that it does
You should check the couple stealth archer videos and the first grandpa video. If you combine the info from those you could probably make something pretty powerful.
Excuse me, my mathematician academic acquaintance, but could you please do some quest/rp/lore maximization videos (for us short, irl Bosmer kings)? As an example, you could go over the forking paths of the quest "Paranoia" given by the in-game character Glarthir. I think this would be fruitful for your channel. I understand that you are more of a math guy, but there are some optimization questions in the lore parts of the game that I think you could easily answer. Also, when leveling smartly, but not efficiently, should I put points in the preferred attributes from your attribute tier list video or those that I have a +5 offer in? So, if I'm a spellsword and level, and then I have the option of +5 to agility and/or speed versus +2 to strength or intelligence, should I go with the former or the latter?
If it helps, I just got a 100% Reflect Damage setup. It seems to stop stagger, but not knockback. I'd try a resist weapon build, but I'm not exactly trusting of my ability with console commands.
Love the videos, are you planning on doing a video on illusion? Im curious how you can get it to still be effective (basically use frenzy etc) as you level up, without spamming night vision or simillar i find enemys quickly out level my spells, are custom spells the solution?
interesting thing to note is that stagger doesnt seem to be dependant on difficulty, that zombie was still flunged few meters back despite you doing like 1/10th of his hp bar. so, my theory that amber hammers are the best gets proven even more!
@@tomaszpawlik5091 Difficulty only affects on % of normal damage player do and get. It won't show you damage dealt in stats but it works like luck attribute, where 50% difficulty is 100% damage for both sides. Doesn't touch other mechanics like sneak difficulty, stagger, enemy health, level or so, damage only.
@@Good_russian_Is-200- i know, what i meant is that stagger works as if you deal 1x damage not 1/6th like you do on 100 diff so its checked BEFORE difficulty setting, that is NOT the case with destruction for example. if an electric or fire skill is about to kill the creature in the next 3 seconds then it will knock it to the ground, that happens AFTER the difficulty mult. ergo - somewhat inconsistent behavior
I should add an intro to get that extra $0.32 from youtube. While I made way more money from Doordash, getting a little extra money from doing something fun like youtube is a really nice cherry on top. Doordash is rough, especially in cold where I live.
He got caught roleplaying as the lusty argonian maid 😂
Mind him
Look at how much he deep dive into the game system🤣😂
I'm not sure how I didn't see this joke coming.
Hey, that's the whole point of roleplaying, to be something you can't be in real life. 😆
I love the non intros and normal talking!
I always try to start with "alright" but this one got cut off. That's my signature move.

Crazy that to this day no one knows exactly how this mechanic works! Good luck figuring it out!

This is about the third time I’ve read TOK and taken far more than a reasonable amount of time to realize that you are referring to me.

going from 1 fatigue to 200 through spells increases your damage a lot more than going from 200 to 400 through spells

i had no idea knockback was even a thing in this game...
Someone should create a test cell where multiple groups of npcs are dueling and you can adjust each factor individually.
In conclusion: Fatigue + weapon weight = more stagger
Wear armor the more armor rating the less stagger
Agility still useless
