Best kit for the dollar out there. The extra money over the Axial kit is well spent and the SSD has none of the problems or required upgrades of the Axial. Very nice chassis. Battery placement is a non issue. It is far more stable than my SCX10.2. Lots of room for interior. Shocks do not leak at all. Can't say enough about this kit.
RC4WD Blazer body FTW! I just built this kit. Great chassis. I'm using the Reedy Radon as well. SSD stated they designed the stock location of the motor to keep the motor weight as low as possible.
Slight terminology correction. The t-case is not divorced. In a divorced t-case system, there is a driveshaft between the rear of the transmission and the front of the t-case, as on the trail finder 2. No big deal, just for clarification purposes. Love your videos.
Great review Matt. I always appreciate your take on things, and you tend to notice things that others don’t talk about online (e.g. the slider covers - I didn’t realize that was a part of the design). Thanks for the review!
Great review on a somewhat obscure chassis. Amain has the 2 trans spacers as well as headers for the stock engine placement & for the 2 spacers. Interesting graphics on your Hummer in the background: Groovy Baby!
@12:15 in the video you can see the receiver box is crooked. My did the same thing. It fits tight in between the chassis. Just a little something to look out for if you are building one.

From the looks of the scale motor being further back and the front maybe room for fans/belts whilst leaving room for the servo I'm sure I see some somewhere
Great review as usual. I always watch your reviews even if I'm not really interested in the truck/kit. Btw, was I seeing things, or was the rear driveshaft out of phase?
Shapeways is over hyped. Anybody can print nylon (versatile plastic) at home with a bag on their budget printer. I do. Shapeways finish quality isn't even all that. I have a SOA mount on my gen 7 with gen 8 axles from 1 tenth printed by shapeways. It's already delaminating in several places after 3 months of barely using the truck.

I already know what kind of body you will use for this build, not sure exactly which version you will build, but it's going to be a square body Chevy or GMC.
I just had a major brainstorm and I'm wondering y noone has made fuel cell battery holders or batteries that look like fuel cells and figures (drivers) that are actually speed controls. That way the (fuel) is in the fuel cell and the driver is essentially driving yet there would b more space in the vehicle
Are the Reedy motors your go to bushed motor choice? I've been running one in my sport kit (after seeing the build off, which was helpful since that was my 1st crawler) build until recently swapping to a HH Crawlmaster sport 550. Just curious man. Keep up the good work and happy belated boxing day.
@@scalebuildersguild That was my experience. Changed it out to just really see if there is a difference between a 540 and 550 can in torque. Not sure how I'm going to measure that, or if I'll even ever notice an actual difference, but it's fun playing with tiny trucks. So, win!
Does anyone know whether the front SSD axle with an offset pumpkin will work with a stock SCX10ii? I'm guessing there would be trouble with drive shaft binding because it's on the opposite side in relation to the pumpkin. Maybe a transmission flip would make it work?
I'm surprised ssd didn't include thier heavy metal axle tubes, or the ssd ar44 pro axles in this kit. I guess it's an easy upgrade. Will you top it off with a proline chevy ramcharger body? 😉
I'm scratching my head -- why would you pay $370 for this kit, when you can buy the Axial raw builders kit for $200? Wondering if there is a side by side to net out the difference and why one kit is a better value over the other.
There's a multitude of upgrades on the SSD kit over the SCX10II RBK. From aluminum knuckles, hubs, and lockouts to the full scale drivetrain, improved sliders and tons of other metal bits, this is a clear-cut better option.
What feedback do you have, personally or second-hand, on the steel-and-plastic axles, 18 months later? I have them on my 10ii and they are performing well, but at seven pounds it's a very light rig. Cheers and thanks, Matt.
@@scalebuildersguild Long term, sad to report that your suspicions at 11:00 were spot-on, so, well done. These axles are a problem, even on a light rig like this. The centre plastic housing collars are not robust enough to support the tubes, and before long the tubes become loose and sloppy where they plug in. The only solution is to replace the centre housings (which are thankfully not expensive). You need to replace the tubes eventually as well, whether they are plastic or even if they are metal, as the threaded holes for the m3 screws also become sloppy. I don't have enough experience with other multipart axles to know whether this is to be expected, but it sure isn't a problem with axles where the pumpkin and tubes are one unit.
A divorce transfer case has a small shaft the connects it the the trans like the rc4wd tf2 or the redcat gen8. The ssd is bolted to the trans so it’s not a divorced transfer case.
I'm not to sure about ssd steel quality. I've had ssd universal steel drive shafts on my scx10. They lasted much shorter than stock drive shafts. SSD titanium suspension and steering links has been excellent. Unlike the soft steel they used in drive shafts.
