My first crawler ever and my second hobby grade RC car ever (first was a Slash) was a TRX-4 chassis kit. It took me a week of afternoons after work to put it together. But is amazing.
When I got in the hobby there was no RTR. Very much perfer a kit to an RTR now . Great informative video as always . Thanks for the honest reviews of trucks and products .
@@RCReviewChannel for me the gateway was my father telling me I could have his old beat Tamiya grasshopper . Catch was I had to fix it up like new or no deal. I was 5yo worked all summer to save enough to get the parts to do it . The addiction we call RC started for me that summer.
I prefer kits. I enjoy the build. I’ve built many kits and I’m glad companies are offering kits again. I bought that land cruiser pickup body from killer body and put it on an SCXll. I had to use cantaleaver shocks in rear to keep full depth bed. Works well but more scale than performance
I have built these kit's TRX-4 Sport, Axial SCX-II.MST CFX. Element E.S .and UMG-10 I enjoyed all of them. My first kit was a BMW Tamiya kit I've built many of theirs .Many are CC-01's I enjoy watching your channel.
Thank you for another great review. I really wish Traxxas would do a chassis kit with no electronics, radio, or body. Kind of like Redcat did with theirs, that would make the ultimate builder imo.
I love building my own vehicles, that is one of the reasons it took me so long to get away from Tamiya, all their stuff was kits. I wish everything came in kit form or we had the option to get a kit from all the manufacturers and all the vehicles. After the RTR took over the market if I bought one I would tear it apart and build it back up to become familiar with the vehicle and to add things that I wanted or felt it needed.
Ha, I bypassed the RTRs and kits all together and went straight to scratch built. However, having since then gotten a kit I must say they are pretty great.
Since 1984, the ONLY RTR I've ever bought, was a Traxxas T-MAXX - and only because no Kit was available. I've always loved the satisfaction and experience of building my own! You've compiled a good list of Kits available. The only thing we seem to differ on, is you are far more Hardcore Performance driven, and I'm more about Scale. Neither is right or wrong. I HOPE that I'm able to get the Element Sandero Builder's Kit. So much potential with it!! Having built and run the Axial SCX10 II SBK, the only thing worth noting is... The supplied Shocks are CRAP! Stick like nothing else, and LEAK! 😞😖 I believe many of us would pay the extra $20, to get the superior ICON Shocks instead. The rest of the Kit, highly recommended! 👍👍 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
what about the crisima coyote kit i have just built one have 2 bodies for it and just got a 3rd have painted the outside of all 3 lexan bodies not with tamiya paints either like the axial and cross kits not sure which one i will get next
I agree, when I got into hobby grade rc vehicles back in the late 70s you only had kits and I feel that is the way all RC vehicles should be, when something breaks you can fix it yourself. And you get a lot more satisfaction from it in my opinion.
Gregg Mundkowsky not everyone has the technical know how or the physical ability to build a kit, there are more rtrs than kits because the manufacturers make more money from them.
With kits you can learn so much more than with a rate. A kit let's you learn how everything is put together so if it needs fixing you will only need to tear down a small part of the car. With rtr when it needs repairs you go in blind.
Just purchased my first rc. Trx4 premium kit. Love its performance but the best part was putting it together. Took me around 25 hours of actual assemble time over the course of 3 days. Lol.
Being in the hobby for about 20 years, I can't justify buying a RTR for myself. Building, modding and tinkering with a rc is atleast half the fun of it, if not more. Plus I don't wanna pay for shitty electronics that I will swap anyway.
I prefer kits so I can actually learn about the car I am gonna run, not to mention building the kit gives me an idea of how to fix something if it breaks.
My first crawler was a kit. And my second, third, the fourth one was a scratch built and the faith was a Brazin’, now I’m ready to get a trx4 sport and tear it all apart and start from the beginning.
Hi, could you please do a review of the Injora SXC10 chassis? They seem to be really well made and half the cost of the Axial version - what is the catch?
Traxxas jacked up the price of thier diy kits so that now they’re the same as the assembled ones. They still come with a lotta parts that I would replace before assembling. Better off to get an assembled sport and then rebuild, cost wise.
Hey dude, You seem to know about rc a lot . I got a question if you can help me out, I want a 1/8 defender body, and I saw called Double Eagle 1/8 defender, the body is good, but the chassis sucks real bad. Is there a 1/8 chasis I could adopt for the Double Eagle body that can work as good as the Jeep Founder II by Traction Hobby?
Traxxas cars have good instruction manuals so if you follow it step by step you will be fine. Do not cheap out on your tools, get some quality tools seeing as they will get a lot of use. Amain hobbies and energy both have some quality tool kits and you can pick and choose your tools. Just be sure to get the right sizes.
Could you do a review of "3racing ex real" crawler? About the price of the redcat gen8/scx10 builders kit price but has 2 speed trans 275mm wheelbase for shorter rigs.
Coming from someone who builds model kits, I neeeeever even considered a rye, that’s like buying a snap tite model. Went ahead and bought the scx10 II kit and I’m already thinking of getting another.
@@RCReviewChannel they got picked up, but did not know they stopped shipping them. I agree with your choice to leave it out then. Its ashame because its a good kit.
I have been working on a TRX 4 Sport builders kit and have been looking at my next build Vanquish Pro is very appealing to me but price is stopping me but I think it's going to be a Enduro Sandaro builders kit...
I wish for a chassis that can be changed in wheelbase (middel of the chassis build for shorten or lenghtend in minutes) to fit different bodys in no time.
I haven’t built any of these yet, but I did build the original TRX4 Kit with the pins that were too large. I fixed that by purchasing a hitch pin from my local hardware store and cutting the flat part to fit. I’ve had it for four months now and no problems with the makeshift pin. As for buying any of these, I’m thinking of buying the TRX4 Sport Kit next and running the Hobbywing Quicrun 1080 ESC, but I’m stuck on a servo for it. If anyone has any suggestions for a good servo that isn’t expensive (under $85) that doesn’t need a BEC it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 👍
What about the Gmade Bom and Sawback kits, also the Boom Racing/Xtra Speed D90/D110 chassis kits and the Xtra speed Xs01 and now Xs02 kits which are all metal including axles and 2 speed transmission and very affordable, and honourable mention to MST for their Cmx,CFX and CFX-W kits, Carisma and I have heard of a company called Rc4wd who make scale kits too 😀
I'm getting the jx cls servo for my traxxas sport kit and I am going to run a hobby wing 1080esc will I need to instal a bec and if so what kind and how this is my first build... thank you
Just realized you guys never cover Vaterra rigs. Just not into anything theyre making, or? Just curious lol maybe you know something bad about the rigs that I don't. I just own a trx4 because well.... No need for a different rig haha.
Since we're new in this category, we've been buying and testing all the new releases, especially with new innovation. Vaterra hasn't release a new platform in a while but we'll be the first to test it as soon as they put one out.
Some technical delays with the edit. It was ready but I brought the wrong hard drive in my travels now. Here is the data 1. Proline Hyrax and weighted wheels 2. Savox 1210 servo at 7.4 volts 3. Overdrive front gear at 12.5% 4. SSD brass portal covers 5. Hobbywing 1080 ESC bonus: bow house low cg battery carrier. 11 volt 2200, no bumpers, no pickup rack

Don't do it. That is not very good compared to the current options. Element RC is so much better. Steering angle and axle clearance are not good on the Gen 7.

Might as well get a kit considering I end up tearing my RTRs down anyway to check diffs, upgrade bearings, hop ups, etc.
Most RTRs are not that well put together and require a rebuild to get optimal performance. Torqued bolts, shock oil, grease are key issues to check.
When I got in the hobby there was no RTR. Very much perfer a kit to an RTR now . Great informative video as always . Thanks for the honest reviews of trucks and products .

Exactly. Traxxas is great but they need to deliver what we want, not what's convenient for them. Throwing in a pickup bed rack does not really help.
