Wheel and tire combo is perfect! It is the way you would see this kind of truck in a 1:1. An old beater Chevy with a 6” lift 38’s and a fender trim. Then just drive it tell it breaks. Just like the one I owned in high school. Haha.
Cool body. Though I do wish someone would do the 88-98 c/k1500. I have a 1:1, it would be sweet to have a 1:10. Short bed reg cab would fit the bill. Again awesome project as always 👍
Several thoughts on the build: 1. Change wheels to SSD chrome 5 slot mags 2. The printed items are fantastic for someone looking to get into hard body building as the hard work has been done for you 3. Add portal axles. (This is a joke) 4. Perhaps print an older style front grille... '73-'74 are slightly different with less chrome bezels (look at front parking lights) / round tube grille that was a very popular "cough, cough" custom accessory 5. Any properly aged and weathered C10 must have the upward bent crease in the hood on the sides roughly in center. (a weak point in design for a long heavy hood) Enjoying the ride....👍 Thanks for another great video
I’ve tried multiple wheel/tire combos on the 11.4 wheelbase and I always revert back to my white rc4wd 6 lug Steelies and the rc4wd mud slingers in 1.55.The tuck and offset just look proper.
Trail king is an awesome build. Just about ready to run mine. Mod19 is a great vendor and he is very helpful. As for the wheels, wagon wheels or some aluminum Centerline old school wheels would be nice.
Problem, though in the early days the Fall Guy truck was a 78-80 square body, it was a GMC not a Chevrolet, also, if you want to build the more commonly used Truck you wanna build a 81-84 GMC which has a completely Different front end design from different genders, hood and grille.
As the later trucks were more common, why build a replica of a common truck as it kind of eliminates the purpose. The gmc grill would have been the point just to differentiate it from the other tf2 blazer truck conversions out there. No reason to worry about converting the front end on the older style truck to the newer in this scenario.
Nice job matt! The ol square bodies are good lookin trucks. As for wheels, id go with some black n milled or some white wagon wheels. Tires, maybe some m/t r or patagonia
Well in Washington state people put new Wheel and Tire combinations on Old weathered and or Rusty trucks so I think it may look right at home in the skill builders world especially if you are from Washington State love it all the way at my man
I think you should go for an old style lifted square body chevy like the type youd see doing donuts in a field way back in the day, gotta get an old fashion roll bar to make it perfect
Love the truck I'm still a square body man! I wish that was my project...retro wheels would look good but I think any nice wheel an tire combo would look cool. Also metallic gunmetal gray body color would be sick!
Gonna be a great build. I'd go with some stock steelies for the rims. The tires are fine but I think something closer to what would've been on the truck stock for rims would be great. And of course some locking hubs...
To answer your question.... If it were mine (and I want that Chassis so bad it hurts)... I'd go with RC4WD 1.55" Deep Dish White Wagon Wheels. OR... GCM 1.55" 5 slot Aluminum Mags. 😉 The old square Chevys that I see have small looking, 15x10" Wagons, and huge 42-44" Tires!! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Fore! I know what I like! Hard at play! Nomenclature, a fantastic word and with that said, fantastic also goes for this bowtie build. Thank you for updating 'The Fam', awesome, simple as that 😎👍
Nice body choise Matt I am a Chevy enthusiast my 3 SSD builds are all Chevy, the 69' K5 blazer off my axial 10.2, Proline 2014 Silverado crewcab replica of my everyday driver & Proline 1980 K5 blazer relpica of my Dad's old rig that I learned how to bogg in, I love rc is so much fun thank's for sharing Matt 😎👍
Sounded like you said you were going to do some aging probably rusting if so I’d say switch the wheel and tire combo more fitting for a aged in Rusted body
Awesome build! Definitely need some older style wheels, they just fit look of the square body better. I actually met Rexracer Jeff at USTE last year, super cool dude, too bad i was to much of a newb to realize who he was.
I'll have to keep him in mind when I get the Blazer body...I'm a huge square body Chevy guy but a truck guy , not a Blazer guy. Shapeways has always been very costly but if it's our only option.... Wheels look just fine....your rig Buddy...just make it look the way you want. I think RC4WD is missing the mark(and lots of &) not making a truck version of the Blazer.
"If I can do it, anyone can!" ~ Matt 2020 😜 Matt, I've considered you one of the Experts, Master of the Craft. 👍👍 You often make the difficult look easy!! *NO!* I'm not asking for anything... (I gave up trying to get help from anyone) No, I MEANT that! I've admired your work for a long time. You, Josh and Aaron inspired me to get into this in 2016, after almost 20 years out of the Hobby, thinking that the Buggies that I loved and Raced Semi-Pro, ALL turned into FLAT Carbon Fiber Chassis, UGLY Blob Bodied MOON BUGGIES!! 😡😠😞 I only found RC Crawlers by pure chance, searching UA-cam for Scale Model Railroading Videos!! (Been in that Hobby since 1974) 😉 Anyway, you and your small group of peers, showed me that RC Trucks CAN be beautiful Scale Models, that function amazingly!! I fell in love with the Hobby harder than ever. It was just my stupid luck that my Family's financial situation completely CRASHED at the same time. 💔😭 Still heavily inspired, I picked up a JUNK HG P402 Kit, and my rocky journey began. (That build is on SBG, BTW) ....... so NO SIR, if you can do it - it's likely difficult for several others! Thank you! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I agree. I have been trying to find a pre-made cage to fit the back of my sons blazer converted to pickup cab. I have tried ascender, cross rc, thinking maybe gmade or axial from the UMG. For now I just mounted a spare on the back of the cab with recovery gear and a fuel cell.
I say weather the truck but keep the wheels and tires, reminds me of taking an old truck and doing some new mods with the wheels, tires, and suspension while keeping the original patina on the body....it's a killer look
I personally feel the current tires and wheels are fine, if you wanted to be "period correct" then id have to say a set of wagon wheels with rc4wd ground hawgs (excellent tire imo i love how sticky they are) or the pro line super swamper tsl
I'm pumped to see you building a TK! It's an awesome chassis, especially if you like the scale nerd stuff like the scale engine and trans. Wait...you don't love Chevys?! Square bodies are some of the all time best looking trucks! Lots of other great looking Chevy trucks (and cars) too. Different strokes for different folks, though.
I love the idea of this build. I like the wheel and tire combo you have on there in general but for this particular build I think you should do some more retro/weathered wheels and tires.... and yes when I say tires, I think you should do what your colleague has done and purposefully wear them out a bit to give it that "old chevy" look it sounds like you are going for. Something to consider as well is mismatched tires. Personally, when I see this type of old chevy rollin around, it usually has anywhere from 2-4 different types of tires on it hahah maybe even mismatched wheels? Not sure how far you're wanting to go with this... I will stop there. Keep up the great content!
I like it! Except the wheels. I think it needs some SSD RC Slots in chrome. Don't get me wrong, the wheels are sweet, if the truck wasn't going to be weathered. Thanks for the great content. Cheers
This will be a really cool build. looking forward to seeing how it progresses. And yeah, the pricing on Shapeways is crazy now. Too rich for me, but then the prices of printed parts and pre-made scale parts is what drove me to start trying to make stuff, so...
i think the tire and wheels you got there look fine, but rc4wd super swamper thornbirds would look rad too, i always wanted thornbirds on my 79 gmc jimmy.
Hey there! My grandpa, other half and I watch your channel (on my grandpa's youtube) in our garage, weekly sometimes daily. We wanted to thank you for the great content as well as ask, what is your hoodie?
Different wheel for sure. On an old chey like that a 1.7 wheel looks much better in my opinion. Less wheel more rubber. Can't wait to see what you do with this.
I know several guys with 1:1 square bodies and they're constantly on the hunt for more of them. Square body hoarders they are. Anyhow, they run whatever tire they can get their hands on, I see Boggers, TSLs, Goodyear MTRs, basically anything with tread and holds air. I know they wouldn't turn their nose up at the Patagonias.
Absolutely go with some old Good Year tires. Google the old Chevy Army trucks. This would be perfect to turn into one of those old rusty green turds. Thanks for the vids.
I would do rc4wd deep dish wagon wheels with proline swampers either the irok or just plain swamper the deep dish wagon wheels would look good on that truck I have those triangle cut wheels that are deep dish on my 1:1 84 Chevy Scottsdale
Well, since ya asked... Two tone paint with matching deep dish wagon wheels. I've been wanting to do that build for a while. I'm sure you'll do an inspiring build!!
I'd definitely go with a set of rc4wd 6 lug wagon wheels if it was mine.
Wheel and tire combo is perfect! It is the way you would see this kind of truck in a 1:1. An old beater Chevy with a 6” lift 38’s and a fender trim. Then just drive it tell it breaks. Just like the one I owned in high school. Haha.
Squarebody for life been my favorite truck sense I can remember
Cool body. Though I do wish someone would do the 88-98 c/k1500. I have a 1:1, it would be sweet to have a 1:10. Short bed reg cab would fit the bill. Again awesome project as always 👍
Same here long bed regular cab 😉
Proline has a lexan body but it’s for monster trucks. And crazy expensive for lexan.
Several thoughts on the build:
1. Change wheels to SSD chrome 5 slot mags
2. The printed items are fantastic for someone looking to get into hard body building as the hard work has been done for you
3. Add portal axles. (This is a joke)

Enjoying the ride....👍
Thanks for another great video
RC4WD Mickey Thompson wheels with Proline KM3 tires would look amazing
I love those milestar Patagonias on that truck! I'm also curious to see how they perform, as I've never tried them out myself.
I think a set of Mickey Thompson Classics with some interco ground Hawgs would look amazing. They would also be quite Era, correct
Russell Lashley I concur!
Bout time you got a Chevy. I'll be watching. Thanks for sharing Matt.
I’ve tried multiple wheel/tire combos on the 11.4 wheelbase and I always revert back to my white rc4wd 6 lug Steelies and the rc4wd mud slingers in 1.55.The tuck and offset just look proper.
Super intersted in this build! That kit is awesome, and I'm really interested in seeing that steering angle in use! Thanks for sharing all you do!
Trail king is an awesome build. Just about ready to run mine. Mod19 is a great vendor and he is very helpful. As for the wheels, wagon wheels or some aluminum Centerline old school wheels would be nice.
I think you should put the RC4WD thorn birds on this truck! Such an iconic tire!!! Thanks for the great content!
I love the SSD Wagon Wheels but maybe a set of the factory style wheels from the traxxas K5 weathered up?
Agree
Rc4wd makes chevy rally in steel beadlocks, rather than using glue on garbage
Good to know! I wasn't aware. Fairly new to RC.
How about a “Fall Guy” GMC replica, only weathered appropriately. As a GM tech by trade, damnit I love a square body.
Problem, though in the early days the Fall Guy truck was a 78-80 square body, it was a GMC not a Chevrolet, also, if you want to build the more commonly used Truck you wanna build a 81-84 GMC which has a completely Different front end design from different genders, hood and grille.

The SSD Trail King Square body looks great so far. 👍🇨🇦🏁👌
Nice job matt! The ol square bodies are good lookin trucks.
As for wheels, id go with some black n milled or some white wagon wheels. Tires, maybe some m/t r or patagonia

if you're going with a weathered look I would find a steelie rim. It's not too often you have a nice modern wheel with a neglected truck.
Awesome job so far man! How about another video of showing how to leaf spring the rear and possibly the front as well?
To answer your question.... If it were mine (and I want that Chassis so bad it hurts)...
I'd go with RC4WD 1.55" Deep Dish White Wagon Wheels.
OR... GCM 1.55" 5 slot Aluminum Mags. 😉
The old square Chevys that I see have small looking, 15x10" Wagons, and huge 42-44" Tires!!
Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Yeah that's awesome dude.
Awesome truck. Maybe for rims look at RC4WD Rally 1.9. What ever you decide on will be awesome. Cheers
Great start to what's gonna be a great look'n truck. N unless yer build'n a barn find style truck, tires n wheels look good.
Fore! I know what I like! Hard at play! Nomenclature, a fantastic word and with that said, fantastic also goes for this bowtie build. Thank you for updating 'The Fam', awesome, simple as that 😎👍
Let’s see an update for the square body please I am thinking about this as my hard body truck and want to see how it turned out!
Tires look good but I think the deep dish wagon wheels would look really good on this truck.
I think a modern tire/wheel combo looks great on the square body Chevy.
More vintage looking wheel would look cool
Nice body choise Matt I am a Chevy enthusiast my 3 SSD builds are all Chevy, the 69' K5 blazer off my axial 10.2, Proline 2014 Silverado crewcab replica of my everyday driver & Proline 1980 K5 blazer relpica of my Dad's old rig that I learned how to bogg in, I love rc is so much fun thank's for sharing Matt 😎👍
SSD has really nice slotted mags that are cool and era correct
Wheels - stock steelies and bald rubber in 1.5!
With the way the servo sits you could always add a radiator in front of it.
Steel wheels and same tyres and thats it, perfect
Sounded like you said you were going to do some aging probably rusting if so I’d say switch the wheel and tire combo more fitting for a aged in Rusted body
Finally a real Chevrolet truck. Never did like Fords. Stuff falls off when ever I had one.
Awesome build! Definitely need some older style wheels, they just fit look of the square body better. I actually met Rexracer Jeff at USTE last year, super cool dude, too bad i was to much of a newb to realize who he was.
Think a more traditional wheel would be killer on that. With the weathering you are gonna do and all.
"If I can do it, anyone can!" ~ Matt 2020 😜

PoorManRC ok
Cool stuff, love that Mile star M/T
NC MOUNTAIN🏞 back yard RC
Rc4wd had some nice Chevy rally style wheels that would be nice on there.more of look your going for....
Looks good with those send it good job I can’t wait for my enduro sendero I also bought a Rc4wd blazer body
Awesome build so far. I think for tire & wheels to use set of BFG Mud Terrains on steel spoker wheels
Mickey Thompson classic beadlocks wheels and either tornbirds or super swampers would be cool on that truck
That cab w a back half cage would be sweet!! 🤤🤤
I agree. I have been trying to find a pre-made cage to fit the back of my sons blazer converted to pickup cab. I have tried ascender, cross rc, thinking maybe gmade or axial from the UMG. For now I just mounted a spare on the back of the cab with recovery gear and a fuel cell.
Christopher Rea rc4wd has one, a lot of guys just fab their own out of steel tubing, I think Harley designs shows how to do that or maybe hemistorm.
Leave the tires! Love them maybe a 8 hole bead-lock or something like that be cool.
I say weather the truck but keep the wheels and tires, reminds me of taking an old truck and doing some new mods with the wheels, tires, and suspension while keeping the original patina on the body....it's a killer look
Id love to see a more resto mod approach to this build so those tyres would work nicely
I personally feel the current tires and wheels are fine, if you wanted to be "period correct" then id have to say a set of wagon wheels with rc4wd ground hawgs (excellent tire imo i love how sticky they are) or the pro line super swamper tsl
I just did the exact opposite, cut a clod buster body to pieces to make a blazer!
Stock grey steel wheels w/ beauty ring/center cap, keep tires...
I have spent over 20 hours sanding on the mod19 parts to make them even paintable!!!!!
Not out of the ordinary!
Yours looked pretty nice!
Love the SSD chassis, can’t wait to purchase one myself. Great build and body, looking forward to the finished product. 👍🏼🤙🏼
Not sure how far you're wanting to go with this... I will stop there. Keep up the great content!
I'm a little surprised there isn't a regular cab Squarbody C/K pickup body - they do seem to be popular. Should be a fun truck. :-)
Definitely a more period correct wheel is in order 👍🏻
I like it! Except the wheels. I think it needs some SSD RC Slots in chrome. Don't get me wrong, the wheels are sweet, if the truck wasn't going to be weathered. Thanks for the great content. Cheers
The rims are a nice modern touch but for period correct I’d go for the white wagon wheels from Rc4wd
Finally a Chevy from you
This will be a really cool build. looking forward to seeing how it progresses. And yeah, the pricing on Shapeways is crazy now. Too rich for me, but then the prices of printed parts and pre-made scale parts is what drove me to start trying to make stuff, so...
tires look good, need some steelies though
i think the tire and wheels you got there look fine, but rc4wd super swamper thornbirds would look rad too, i always wanted thornbirds on my 79 gmc jimmy.
Stock rally wheels 👌🏻👌🏻 give it that classic square body look!!😎
Scalemonkey makes a whole array of item like bed extensions and cab backs and accessories for the blazer
Hey there! My grandpa, other half and I watch your channel (on my grandpa's youtube) in our garage, weekly sometimes daily. We wanted to thank you for the great content as well as ask, what is your hoodie?
I’ve been interested in the trail king, love this build.
Different wheel for sure. On an old chey like that a 1.7 wheel looks much better in my opinion. Less wheel more rubber. Can't wait to see what you do with this.
I'd agree to leaf the rear end, and leave the rims, not sure about the tires, but they might just fit the build in the end
Looks awesome so far
If your going to weather the K10/K20/K30 (1/2, 3/4, 1 ton) body then go "old School" with the rims and tires.
K Series: Has 4 “points”- 4x4 C Series: Has 2 “points” 2WD. Helps out a little bit there.
Thornbird tires and some round hole steelies!
Love the tires go to steel wheels
I would go with rc4wd rally wheels.
Old school wheels all the way !!! 👍👍
1.55 RC4WD rock crushers on black 1.7 deep dish wheels
I know several guys with 1:1 square bodies and they're constantly on the hunt for more of them. Square body hoarders they are. Anyhow, they run whatever tire they can get their hands on, I see Boggers, TSLs, Goodyear MTRs, basically anything with tread and holds air. I know they wouldn't turn their nose up at the Patagonias.
people throw new method on old k5's today so those actually look very scale. the body is gonna look good weathered up.
If the Milestars work half as well on the toy trucks as they do on my JL, we've got a winner!
How about some Traxxas Blazer wheels? The similar RC4WD Chevy bead lock wheels are cool, but way too wide.
Absolutely go with some old Good Year tires. Google the old Chevy Army trucks. This would be perfect to turn into one of those old rusty green turds. Thanks for the vids.
No matter how old the vehicle, you always need new tires. So i don't see any problem with running a new tread / pattern tire
I hope your not getting noob fenders haha I've been trying to get a set for the last year for my square. Richard is a busy guy lol
Not really related but kind of is, could you do a series on 3d printing? I personally have never done it but I am very interested
It definitely need some old school rims
I would do rc4wd deep dish wagon wheels with proline swampers either the irok or just plain swamper the deep dish wagon wheels would look good on that truck I have those triangle cut wheels that are deep dish on my 1:1 84 Chevy Scottsdale
Lookin good 😎
Its looking great bro!
Hey mi big bro I can't figure out what rock crawler motor's are 4s capable
I’d guess pretty much all of them with the right gearing and ESC.
8 spoke steel wagon wheels, aged and distressed. Super Swampers/ Thornbirds of one flavor or another.
Awesome video as always. What hobby knife if that you used for cutting the body? Ive been trying to find something with a thin blade.
I like the tires but I think the wheels are a bit much maybe some deep dish wagon wheels
6 lug wagon wheels with the ground hog style tire
Thanks for another great video. Would you consider a cantilever system instead of leaf springs, or is that not allowed with SORRCA rules?
I won’t be competing with this truck, so I’m free to do whatever I like! I do make a cantilever kit, so maybe I’ll use that!
I seen some k10s with those type of wheels, so maybe rusting the wheels to make it look more true.
Well, since ya asked... Two tone paint with matching deep dish wagon wheels. I've been wanting to do that build for a while. I'm sure you'll do an inspiring build!!
id swap the wheels to something more traditional seen on an ol' chevy
