Send the dash cluster off to Revtronic, They sorted my V70 D5 one out and were a great company to deal with, It's still faultless 3 years later and cost me £80 for the repair and they guarantee the repair for life! The only downside of your XC90 will be the Aisin Warner auto box, I am surprised at 170K miles it is still shifting nicely and not thumping when changing gear, The valve body just wear's out and oil changes just put off the inevitable.
You can't really lose at £500 but there are a lot of XC90s in good condition going through the scrap/salvage auctions these days so I guess they become moneypits at this age. If i was in your shoes I'd get it assessed at a Volvo specialist (I use and recommend Sheffield & Meredith in Leicester) before firing the parts cannon. I was actually going to suggest buying a very lightly crashed P3 at the salvage auctions, I've done it many times over the last few years and done well out of it. Good luck!
I shall definitely be approaching this with caution as I think it would be very easy to get upside down quite quickly in it. The clocks can be repaired relatively inexpensively so that's going to be my first port of call as I figured I wouldn't get a sensible reading out of VIDA as it was.
@indecisiveauto Good approach, I like it. If you don't have VIDA/VDASH I can help with plug ins and I can recommend someone who sells the cable, laptop, etc. The same guy also does mobile coding & problem solving and is based in West Mids if it all gets a bit too much! I'm based in Northamptonshire and happy to plug it in and check things for free as I like your videos (my business is called TAB-TEC, I sell and repair VW radios but we all drive Volvo D5s here!)
Seems like a bargain, really. All depends on what's to sort out. I had to sell my 2000 S60 because of similar reasons, the bills kept coming in but I was considering if it wouldn't be worth it rather than buying something new. Problem was sourcing parts locally was a sodding nightmare (I live in Portugal). Is that an issue in the UK?
It varies in terms of parts but most things are still available. Thankfully there's good community support for them in the UK through forums and groups. There's also a number of specialists who can tackle repairs to electrical components. Because so many XC90's are finding their way into the breakers now my plan is to source second hand parts where it's appropriate to keep the costs down.
"Out of the frying pan, into the fire" springs to mind. Those tyres must be well worth more than you've paid.
🤞
Brave, but I love it. And as you say it looks like it's been looked after.
Amazing, what a bargain!
That does look really tidy, especially for the age and what it is. I did guess new headlights, amazing the difference they make to how it looks
I loved my XC90. Have fun.
I can't wait to see your adventures with this. The new headlamps are probably worth £500 on there own.
Love the TNG intro text font!
I had a feeling it would be an XC90! Yesss!🎉❤
It's very smooth - makes me realise how incredibly wobbly the V70 is on the motorway!
Have you seen Just Joel's videos on a project XC90?
Looks like a good purchase for £500!
