I felt like this when I got rid of my old car that I’d had for ages but it was getting to the point where fixing anything wrong with it cost more than car itself so I got rid of it and I felt really sad about leaving at the scrap yard. All the good memories that had been had in that car would be reduced to nothing but a pile of shredded metal.

These crushers are babies compared to some we work on, I have seen 2” thick 10ft wide steel plates fall into them and the crushers didn’t even slow down, just punched holes in it all the way through.
Considering modern cars are designed to be a bit soft, it's not too suprising. A car should be able to be squished so an impact has time to diperce the force of a crash. Going from 80mph to 50 then to 0 over the cource of 0.1 second, rather than 80mph to 0 in 0.001 seconds, pushing all of that impact force in such a short timeframe. The longer you can make an impact last from initial crash to full stop, the less harmfull it will become. (Unless things are pushed directly into the passengers, and even then it might still be benefical.)
Cars ain’t that strong, especially from these eras. If someone is still driving around in a 90s Camry today and gets into an accident their fault or not, it won’t be pretty.

Some of these cars sit in the salvage yards for quite a while for people to pull parts off of before they crush them. If they get more desirable parts cars and need room for them, they will crush the cars that no one has interest in or crush the ones with no more usable parts. And from a financial aspect, there's no sense pulling parts off cars no one has much interest in (like a Suzuki) when you can fill that same space with parts from a Camry or an F-150.

Its hard to let go of cars sometimes because of the memories they hold. I have my best friend's mom's 1997 subaru forester parked in my yard. this is why as I got older I consume a LOT less and try to buy things that are durable and fixable. everything will end but I really hate the disposable stuff in our society. for example now I only buy furniture made of solid wood that can be refinished and literally last a couple lifetimes.
I'm really worried about the last machine. The guy was too close and there was no protection, if someone for one millisecond for some random reason loses it balance there's no way back.
