Legally, it seems she should have stopped talking to him when he said he didn't want to answer questions. Prosecutors are the reason he was released. That said, automatism is an action that happens unconsciously or involuntarily. So, he murdered his dad and brutally assaulted his stepmom "involuntarily" because he was on a "bad trip," AFTER he made the conscious and voluntary choice to do the mushrooms?? Based on that, just about everyone who ends up killing someone because they were intoxicated could use that excuse.
I thought the same thing she should have stopped after he said he had a lawyer & then said I don't want to answer that. It may be why the prosecutor let him go as the whole interrogation could have been considered illegal.
This happened in Canada, and according to their legal code, suspects don't have to answer any questions, but police are allowed to keep asking them as long as they want. That's why this case was so interesting to cover, having to consider another country's process, as opposed to the US, which I'm used to. If you want to check it out, I explain in more detail in the coverage on my channel.
The charges were dropped because a law had changed and essentially since he was doing well they felt he'd served enough time and it would be too much bother to charge him again.
Lol, thats what I said to my buddy when he started freaking out after we took some acid and a bunch of other drugs. I was fine. But he was losing his mind. We took about the same amount. I may have taken more because I was a heavy drug user in high school. At the end he ended up in the medical tent at the outdoor rave we were at. We had to confiscate his cell phone because he was trying to call his parents to tell them what was happening.
This guy received only 5 years in prison and it was eventually put on hold because of 'extreme intoxication'. Boy, I need to move to Canada and get drunk!!
The way he told the story of that night sounds very practiced. He fake cried through much of it, and he kept making his key points over and over. All the while, he sat like a statue. Then as soon as she switched to Rugby, his entire demeanor changed! His started to talk normally, move a bit, get more comfortable in the chair, and use his hands to gesture. Maybe because he thought his made up story had convinced her. ( She did an amazing job getting him to open up!) Here's what I think. He hated his father for not being there for him when he was young. Then, his parents had split up and remarried. Thomas had depression since his early teens, which made things worse. While he was in college, he was using drugs everyday, and discovered mushrooms, which probably made him feel more angry with his dad. And he also got that "clarity" from the shrooms. He seems very bright, so maybe he got the idea of using extra mushrooms to help him gain the courage to commit the murder and also use as a defense. After his second handful of shrooms, he went to "meditate"/review the steps to take that he'd already carefully planned. Then, he went for it. While I totally feel compassion for the difficult situations growing up he had, and the added depression, I still believe he planned this attack. I guess he's been found not guilty, once and for all. Let's hope they were right, and I'm not right. He may be on a better path, now, and will never harm anyone else.
Taking a substance voluntarily is not an excuse for murder though. If it was, every person would use that excuse to get away with murder. It almost seems as if he did some research. I've never heard of a bad trip on shrooms but I guess anything is possible. Regardless, this is such a tragic story for everyone involved, especially the victims.

This happened in 2015?!
Time flies
CHARGES DROPPED
you cant blame drugs or alcohol for this murder, who told you to take them?
This is truly heartbreaking. My sincere condolences to this broken family 🦋🌻❤️
Thank you!! Happy New Year!!
looking forward to your content in 2024!! God bless!!
and this is why you dont do drugs kids.
He is so full of s***
His sniffling is soo annoying bro.
I ate acid one time when I was younger, and started freaking out and took a knife an electric knife and started sawing at my own arm. Needless to say I’m so happy this never happened to me.
Has some alien 👽 abducted your brain 🧠??
Took it one time and never again I thaut the lights were come to get me it was awful experience 😔 😪
Lie, I've done tons of lsd and it's never made me feel like this. Only at one with the universe
@@acidwayne6928well some people aren't right in the head when they take them which is what causes them to think like that. It only amplifies thoughts that already exist within them.
This kid is not a very good actor. Lots of crying noise, but no actual tears. He strains his voice and sniffs air through his nostrils, but if he was actually crying that much, there would be a LOT of snot. The story sounds rehearsed and sometimes he's so into telling it, he forgets to sound distraught. This whole "everyone was after me" vaguery is super convenient. How much does this kid inherit now that dad is out of the picture?
33:45 THAT RIGHT THERE IS VERY TELLING ..He says "I don't know if I meant to hurt Lynn, hurt them.." "Then says I'm a good person"
Do not answer any questions
She's knows the facts and he won't answer 😂
This interrogation is crazy to me. I went through a psychedelic phase in my mid twenties. I never had a bad trip but I've heard of friends of mine doing crazy things. I don't know if I feel for this guy or not. Some people can't handle it.
This is so sad. Such a beautiful family destroyed by mushrooms. Think, is it worth it. A promising young man. No future so sad.
Destroyed by his DECISION to do drugs. He's responsible.
He is free, so he indeed had a future
no he destroyed his own life dont blame it on the mushrooms he told a great story but i dont believe him for a second.
Regardless of what he says he was under, he shows zero remorse
Amazing detective!!! 9 mins, and he was ready to talk.
Don’t answer anything
Ask for a lawyer and they'll shut up. Until you do, they lie, cheat, anything to get you to talk
It's over! He is home after being found guilty The Crown dropped the charges.
@@oranjmusemeyer968
You are ruining the story by going to every comment and telling everyone. 🙄
what was the sentencing?
What's the point of watching this? All charges were dropped.
So the end result is the point?
No, students of psychology, law enforcement and interrogation techniques etc… learn from the process - So sit it out if it bores you 👍
If you don't want to watch it, why are you?
He said his friends went and got the shrooms he took. I wonder if they didn't add something to the original shrooms?
Time for America to be strict on drgs
Canada.
They need to be less strict, actually. The war on drugs is a joke.
What about Canada?
stop giving your kids everything you never had, give them some and stop because look at how they repay you and I'm a son myself... FKc THAT
I thought my headphones somehow Bluetooth itself to my non Bluetooth toilet but others heard it too 😂 with every flush he spews more bs
Heartbreaking
You know, I’ve wondered, how many interrogations of horrifically abusive parents have I seen online - and I how many of those case where the children lived turn into cases where the older child goes for the parent.
So sad 😢
This is a huge lesson on the consequences of drugs . He sits there so unbothered yet pretends to not know some of the info needed . It’s very easy to tell he’s lying .
If he's lying then how is it a lesson on the consequences of drugs? Do you not realize that literally contradicts itself?
According to article online, charges were dropped and he's free.
I got 8 adds. They forced me to watch almost all of them. I’m only a little more than half way to the end of the video
Is he going to wish to answer anything at some point or is this what I’m in for throughout if I keep up watching this?
Drugs are pure evil in the body and it's more in a younger man...however give the drug to him must be investigated too. So sad to see younger people trapped on drugs!! These are evil!. So sorry gir him and his family. RIP their parents.😢💔🙏🏻😞
LOL… and alcohol is better?? Do you know how many lives have been ruined because of alcohol? Drunks are the scourge of this planet, yet people want to act like a flipping plant is going to end the world. This is one kid who had a bad trip, as opposed to millions of families destroyed by drunks, drunk drivers, drunks with guns. Your comment is absolutely ridiculous.
Drugs are a mother f'r...
Well that’s kinda heartbreaking
He has a super villain cartoon character
The detective sounds like Sandra Bullock
Bullock has the voice lots of WW like emulate and she is doing an impression of her on her Miss congeniality film
7 years after he was convicted, the charges were dropped. He is now a free man.
F'ing BS! 🤬
I don't think I believe him mushrooms yeah right
Total loonie bin! And ive only seen the intro where he says I thought he was the devil
he's free now
Yeah I love how they seduce the suspects with a woman with a soothing voice to get them to talk. I would never fall for that cause I'm a playa but yeah
