Erik here! To those venturing down into the comment section of this video, be warned, if you have not seen Tenet, you may accidentally scroll past a SPOILER for the film. We've done our best to make sure the video title, thumbnail, and opening moments do not outright spoil any major plot points. But we cannot guarantee the comments on the video won't be so careful in their discussion of the film's timeline. Tread carefully and we'll see you after you see Tenet!
This movie. Is. Absolutely. Incredible.
I saw it 3 times. And im going again and again and again until I got it down. I cannot let this go to vod until I've understood it
Wow!!! Good work!!! Very good video!!! The best hands down I have seen this movie explained so far!!!
How often did you see the movie?

After watching this I realised that Inception was a piece of cake to understand.

Inception was super easy to understand but this!!! Its been a week and m looking for answers!! My head hurts
@@sukiratgrewal I watched this movie today and I was confused to the bone.
For me this is the only movie that topped my list above Inception. But inception is more than a movie, it's an emotion. Can't beat that.

Just rewatched this movie last night. Will watch it for the 1st time last year.Robert Pattinson is a phenomenal actor and I hope he doesn't get fantasy roles, like vampires, in the past.
or like a crime fighting hero 10 years before now

What’s up with Pattinson and bats.
This comment was soo good
The ending to this got me. Knowing your best friend is going to die for you and you can't do anything about it.
Not only can you do nothing about it, you have to recruit your friend knowing he'll be killed because of it
Not only can you do nothing about it, but nobody in the movie theatre knows that or knows that he’s going to die or knows why they are in a sandy war zone.
I mean tbf, you also know you have a ton of time left them with even after they die. It's comforting in a way, like you got the hard part over with first

Tenet : beer my hold

Nolan's Memento is a mind bender as well. There's a video of Nolan explaining Memento and it is mind boggling. A lot of planning goes into such ideas and I feel the payoff is rewarding because the films are astoundingly unique.
I walked out the theater backwards just to troll people

Considering they watched the movie, it would have been troll walking into the movie backwards.
@@DarkJak don't give me any ideas😂😂😂
I love when Neil knows what drink the protagonist likes. At first it just seems like Neil did a lot of reading up on the protagonist’s file, when in reality it’s because they’re best friends. The protagonist just doesn’t know it yet.
There's also Kat's line about Max saying he's "everything." Not just a loving mother. But a clue that Max is Neil and Neil is perhaps the true hero of the film.
maybe the name protagonist is a play on this too.. protagonist thought he was the real and only protagonist but it was really neil the whole time
Whoa!!! 🤯
Instead of an Oscar, I think Nolan was going for a PhD.
Lmao
Deadly lmfao
Well he wasn't going for box office hits. Bazinga!

If they make a second tenet movie of protagonist recruiting neil it will simultaneously be the sequel and prequel for this movie 🤯

I'm convinced it was changed sometime in the last few months. Otherwise nobody would know what's going on 😂
Exactly what I was looking for I had to close my eyes and listen only because it was so confusing, and I just saw this movie just now for the first time, or last time?
Okay there's totally a scene missing where, in the future, an aged Protagonist recruits a young Neil, and is preparing him to spend several years of his life inverted... That scene would have really rounded out the movie, emotionally and logically.
Or the whole movie from the perspective of Neil... 🤔
This film is the end of a long line of tenet films not yet created
Turns out this explanation video was what inspired Chris Nolan to produce the movie Tenet. True Story 🤯
That honestly makes the most sense!
It’s like Back To The Future on steroids
hahaha couldn't've said it better. you'd think the explanation video would be less complicated

I have to give mad props to Nolan for being able to put together and work such intertwined, yet individual timelines for all major characters. I also have to give YOU props for being able to understand and decrypt them all for us with this great vid! In the end, if Nolan decides to push the mindfreak complexity factor much past this is his future films, he may very well lose many of his fans. If it takes watching the film, watching an explanatory video, then rewatching the film again two or three more times before it starts to come together in your head, I’m betting most people won’t pay that price to recognize the genius in the plot and layout. Just my 0.02
That's what I love about this "complex" movies. Keeps me engaged even after watching and makes it a good puzzle or brain teaser to think about and entertain you for much longer than the duration of the movie
Makes a great rewatch though I've seen in 3 or 4 times now over a few years and I'm still getting my head around it and the action scenes are unique enough to keep you engaged. This movie is hard to switch off also, if I catch a few minutes of it I have to finish it
Stanley kubrick didnt become a living legend by dumbing his movies down. 2001 : A Space Odyssey is a great example. It took a while for people to catch on. Tenet will be more appreciated in the years to come.
Neil's advanced degree in physics served a singular purpose: Help Neil understand all the time inversion and overlapping of timelines he would need to do
Robert Pattinson is such a good actor. I hope he doesn't end up being cast in a vampire movie.
ikr i love his acting except for that movie

I feel what would have made the movie a little bit more understandable is if Nolan included dates and time stamps in the movie to have a clearer view on things.
Crazy you mention Oppenheimer, just as I’m watching this on July 24 2023 as Nolan’s next film ‘Oppenheimer’ just premiered

On my way to watch Tenet, it was a great movie.
Did you put a invert reference here? You said “ on my way to watch Tenet,” ok. Then you say, “ it was a great movie” . So did you invert yourself to go back in time to the movie again? Heads up, don’t make contact with your past self.
🤯
HahHahah
enjoy watching it reversely
this NEEDS to be the top comment!
Makes me wonder how far back in time the Protagonist went to start Tenet. It seems the inversion goes at the same rate as forward timeline without a possibility to ‘jump’ between time so you cannot go back to ‘real time’ at all. Therefore, the protagonist had to wait for Max/Neil to grow old enough to recruit him then stay inverted long enough to go far back to start and grow the organization before the Kyiv/Stalsk-12 showdown.
btw.. speaking at breakneck speeds while trying to explain complex concepts is really helpful champ
Right??? I had to rewind so many times cuz he talked so freaking fast
Had to watch it in 0.75 speed.

I feel bad that Christopher Nolan clearly spent a lot of time carefully planning out this storyline, but nobody understands it.
Yeah I agree. And that's why everybody is saying the movie is trash..... They don't even take time to try understanding it lol
As you've said Nolan clearly spent a lot of time on this, so he'd be very upset if you do.
I agree, but he could have been a little clearer during the movie. If you mis 1 sentences it could lead to not understanding the entire movie.
Most persons are easily confused
the film clearly has an average storyline, but an elevated masterpiece level writing and concept.
those two things can exist in the same universe, which is why i gave this film a 7/10, its ambitious but held down by spy genre tropes, and forgettable secondary and tertiary characters
This movie is so far ahead of its time and that is the reason why it couldn’t reach the widespread popularity equal to that of inception and interstellar.
Definitely my 2nd favourite Nolan movie after Inception. It’s a masterpiece and I hope with time people will understand it and give more respect to it….
"This movie is so far ahead of its time" - yes. In every meaning.
I was waiting for the closing credits at the start of the movie

God bless you bc that was almost impossible for me
The director must have asked the Actors to just play their role and Ignore understanding the full story-line because "Ignorance is our Ammunition"
Ignorance is also Christopher Nolan's ammunition
Lol that really was their line
lol good one
😂😂😂😂 an absolute bliss my brother!
I've given up on understanding the ammunition, I just catch it.
I feel like Nolan had to explain the context of every scene like 10 times to each actor, and even then they were thinking “I’ll just do my lines and make this look cool”
Sadly it seems like this is what actually happened given the actors have expressed that they didn't understand the movie and just trusted his vision
Haha, like Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd in Trading Places. He said he just did the lines but couldn't understand a thing about trading.
Hahahaha
Probably why the dialogue felt so wooden from literally every actor. The poor script probably played a part in that too though.
The editors must have had a hell of a time.
Upon watching the film again, I realized that the organization doesn’t need to exist past the end of the film. The protagonist could invert backwards for years, recruiting Ives, Neil, and the others, in the Protagonist’s past. The prior operations could have been trying to direct Sator to the other 8 pieces of the algorithm.
I saw inception recently and saw Tenet two days ago. I understand inception a heck of easier than this movie .
Christopher Nalon is a master of unique storytelling.

I'm mad Nolan focused more background noise instead of taking 10minutes to explain how TeNeT works. 10 minutes would have cleared things up. He did it Interstellar...
Robert Pattinson filmed the movie without knowing what was going on 😂
The truth is in childhood Christopher Nolan's parents didn't give him toys to play so he started playing with clocks and time
Lol
lol
You know it's a confusing movie when the explanation of the movie is confusing.
the only thing I found confusing was the bullet paradox. If you're hit by an inverted bullet, why do you suffer from an injury after the impact (before, in the bullet's timeline) and why do you only start feeling the injury moments before the impact, instead of your whole life ?
Because the bullet has inverted causality from the person's POV, but not the person. The person's inversed from the bullet POV.
What you said would make sense if we saw a person and a bullet, both inverted, interact from our POV, and we weren't inversed ourselves.

Bringing your brain to the cinema in order to watch CNolan’s movie is no longer enough, you must have a PhD in physics as well.
Or a spliff.
@@ivobo6227 or coke
right. I only have a few physics classes under my belt and this was still hard to follow.
No. He just makes the storyline and scenes bamboozlingly complex and overdramatized with philosophical dialogue to confused everyone. In actual fact if you had a PhD in physics you still wouldn’t understand it because inverting the entropy isn’t possible unless you’re able to control every atom in the universe . Every single piece of matter and point is connected and linked by cause and effect. You can’t reverse the entropy of individual objects or people. You would need to reverse the laws of physics, all forces etc too etc. It’s just possible. But sure, makes for an interesting movie if your brain doesn’t ruin it.
@@bretellis Lmfao
no way i still don't understand the film after watching this i'm cryin rn
He didn't explain it very well did he?
Small thing I suppose but... the turnstiles are not "pincers". The "Pincer Maneuver" is the name given to the type of operation that starts from both "sides" of time and meets in the middle. It's what Sator is doing to always be a step ahead of everyone, but he doesn't know that it's *also* what the Protagonist is doing but on a "wider" timeline.
I mapped everything out in a spreadsheet on the 2nd viewing but I have to admit, I completely missed that Max is Neil. Wow.
This movie is so confusing, that the explanation is confusing.
For real, although it doesn't help that I haven't seen the movie.
But people who thought inception was hard to understand is having their brain cells massacred right now.

One mistake u did is during the opera scene Neil inverts to the location but he himself is not inverted only his gun was so he never revert himself to Mumbai
The fact that Neil spent 30 years or so inverted to meet up with a young Protagonist just to die and then his kid self grows up and does it all over again is insane
and he also studied physics all over again, that's the hardest part lmao
@@thejericho what? he only studied physics once, he never did anything twice. Time is continuous, the movie just states that you can relatively move backwards against the flow of time of other objects. Its still relative, your time is still moving forward, just against everything else(while inverted). Meaning he only ever studies physics once, and does all of what happens in the movie once.
My mind is a puddle after reading this

The Oppenheimer reference lol
I'm struggling to understand the cause and effect thing.
So if it wasn't for Neil inverting to the past, the protagonist would die at the opera. However, it's because of the protagonist that Neil is able to invert as they know each other in the future. So how can the effect (Neil saving the protagonist) come before the cause (the protagonist making tenet and recruiting Neil) in the sequence?
Put another way, how can I travel back in time to save myself from death when I wouldn't be alive in the first place to be able to travel back?
Because you were always suppose to save yourself. I think this called a
predestination loop/paradox or closed time loop. Just like I was always suppose to respond to this comment.
The thing that messes with your mind is the fact that you try to find what came before the loop. You have to realise that it is a never ending cycle with neither a start nor a finish. So this means that a version of you will always be saved by a future version of you and that same version of you will always travel back in time to save a younger version of you. The loop was always meant to happen so that the timeline ensures it's existence in the future
ok where can I find the video that explains this explanation video?

I really can't decide if this is a good movie or not. It's a fun one to unravel afterwards for sure, the plot is interesting, and some set pieces are great. But is it really all that good of a movie is very few people can follow along as they watch it? Like, very few. You really don't get enough from this movie to start piecing it all together until closer to the end and, even then, the movie gives you no time to catch up.
