I do give Halle Berry credit that she happily accepted her Razzie award, and did a whole speech where she admitted the movie was terrible. Kudos.

Actually, having Ophelia being an older Selina Kyle passing down the torch as Catwoman would have been a great idea. Oh well, maybe in a better movie
Another way to connect the films? Bringing back one of the cats from the cat scene in "Batman Returns" with Ophelia as the owner.
fun fact: she was supposed to be Selina in an earlier draft of the script. But when the script went into another rewrite, it was dropped. Also, the main villain was supposed to reference poison Ivy due to the make-up having bioengineered elements, giving the super powers and side effects more of a point. It's why the bad guy's named Laurel as in Laurel leaves.

That alone would have been epic, and her whole 'male academia' thing could have been good had they made a scene of her glancing at one of Bruce or Batman, referencing how their relationship didn't work out like she wanted and she holds a grudge against him because of it.
You can always do what i do and just headcanon her to be using a fake name and backstory because Selina Kyle is a wanted woman
The Sad part is Halle Berry could have been a Great Catwoman with a decent Script and better direction.
I'd even say that she could have been a better Catwoman than Storm.

Or, if this movie was actually a prequel origins story for the Eartha Kitt's Catwoman from the Adam West Batman TV series, that would have been much better than this actual horse-shit movie.

You wanna know the funniest part about all of this? This film won four Golden Razzies in 2005, one of them for Worst Actress. And the best bit, Halle Berry actually showed up to the ceremony with her Best Actress Oscar for "Monster's Ball" in hand proclaiming: "I want to thank Warner Bros. Thank you for putting me in a piece of shit, god-awful movie... It was just what my career needed."
Oh, and did I mention there is a video game based on this movie? The best part of that game is... doing nothing at all while the camera orbits around Catwoman while she does sexy poses for the camera. Yeah.

And this is after she was Storm from X-Men. Working for Disney and Warner Bros 2 make these. Working for the mouse and working for the rabbit. But Disney didn't own Marvel during the time of this yet but I'm just throwing it out there.

Hey, good on Halle Berry for at least acknowledging how garbage this movie is. It’s a shame people tailed into her so hard for this, it’s really not her fault.
Fun fact: Pitof (Catwoman director), when this movie bombed, blamed audiences for its failure because, as he put it, they "just didn't get his vision." Just like Bill Jemas and "Marville"
I have a feeling that he was talking about the studio executives (and even if he wasn't he can't publicly bash them without consequences).
Because Catwoman was meddled to hell and back. That was why it took so long to get off the ground. Even if he had a vision it's burried under a crapton of interference. No wonder no one got it.

I agree the first outfit Patience wore was better and looked sexier than whatever that other outfit was.

@AT Productions I didn't say that there were hardly times where attractive women were depicted with lots of flesh. I still stand that lots of times women are protrayed as attractive while wearing modest clothing (Zero Suit Samus, Black Widow, Catwoman (in her full suit), various Disney Princesses in full dresses, various ladies in anime (like Komi in KCC, who wears a unrevealing uniform and is still pretty), and so much more). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so people have various ideas and depictions of what makes attractive women.
Regardless, the movie Catwoman suit looks stupid. The full suit makes her look both more dignified and attractive.
If this was done right we could of gotten Catwoman VS clayface

20:44 - I think I'm gonna be sick. And no, not because this statement can easily be viewed as perverted by some people. My problem is that we have already seen what Strathie talks about done rather well... in Batman Returns. But it was portrayed with taste and a certain amount of subtlety. However, that's not the only thing the Catwoman costume represented in that movie. It also mirrored the patchwork for the Frankenstein Monster and the more damaged it got, the more it reflected Selina's gradually deteriorating mental state. Then again, Batman Returns had good direction, good storytelling and good acting - none of which are anywhere to be seen in this sorry excuse for a movie.

You know I actually read the comic of the Catwoman movie long before seeing the movie, and while I thought it was bad, I didn't think it was as terrible people said it was
Then I watched the movie, and then I got it
Being french, I'm of course know the case of pitof, and his first movie Vidocq (You pronounce it right the first time) is as bad, if not worst than Catwoman. It's even more ugly and fake, and here, not even the story can be salvage. It's basicly the first Robert Downey Jr Sherlok Holmes, but without the humor and with a stupid as fuck twist.
And yes, the killer in this movie look like the king of worms minions, but he's more like Mysterio from Spider-man wearing bin bag.
Also, he's REALLY proud of his stupid movies. He defend Vidocq for beeing the first movie entierly made in digital, long before Star Wars episode II, so it's technacly a revolutionnary movie in the technologie department, and help many actual great movie. Even Catwoman he defend by saying that there was only two way to make a female super hero movie according to him :
"Either it's fantomette (a french female super hero from a series of books and TV show) for little girls, or it's a whore for grown up, there is nothing in betwen"...
I let you explain how it's the most stupid and sexist thing ever said, especially after the Wonder Womans and Captain Marvel Movies.

I found Catwoman in a clearance bin. The movie was about as bad as everyone says. The DVD had an hour long feature on the various women that have played Catwoman and was hosted by Eartha Kitt - that was actually great.

I actually just tried to look it up. Amazon had a picture of the back cover so I was able to find the title - the Many Faces of Catwoman. Sadly it is not on UA-cam whole, I can only find fragments.

It was possibly what they attempted to infer, but like almost everything else about the movie it was poorly done.
There is actually a female version of Clayface called Lady Clay.
Remember the movie was in development for a decade so maybe in the first script that was an option.

The original 1995 script had a character called "Captain God" in it and I recommend everyone read it. I don't know if it would have been a good movie but it certainly had more interesting ideas than The Mask vs The Wasp Woman.
I read it, and holy fuck it feels oddly relevant considering we live in the era of Internet anti-feminism and "identity politics" considering the bits with all the random other Catwomen and most of the guys dismissing them (I love this remark Selina makes at one point that every decent guy she's met in her life is either dead or gay)

Fun fact: the guy playing the cop went on to star in a much better film based on DC comics Justice League Gods and Monsters. He also voiced the villains in Despicable me 2 and Coco. Dude’s got range.
Justice League: Gods and Monsters is such a great film. It bugs me that it sold poorly and won't be getting a sequel.
You know, Linkara, while I do like you because you’re really awesome, this review kinda made me realize there’s a bit more of a connection here than with other guys I watch.
See, you have a tendency to really dig into the themes and such of your review material, deeply analyze why things do or don’t work, and pull out elements that others might not pick up on (for example, the dual personality stuff here that might have been interesting if this was its own thing). As a reviewer myself (blogger on Equestria Amino), I’ve found I’m exactly the same way.
Just thought that was nice, I guess. Keep on keeping on.

Davanthall It’s the context that matters, fire and ice dragon etc as the title of a book would be rather close to his backyard legally speaking, just fire and ice as a restaurant isn’t so much.
Similar to how Ford has the right to the name Ford as it pertains to producing cars and related businesses, they have no grounds to sue the Ford chiropractic care center out of existence, unless they go farther and use a similar logo or something.

I find it appropriate that you're reviewing the Catwoman comic adaptation this week, Linkara. The new John Wick movie is coming out this week, and Halle Berry has a role in it (Glad she's still getting work).

I remember actually excited for this film when I was much, much younger, since I thought Catwoman herself looked pretty cool and the ads made the film look vaguely Spider-Man esque. Plus, I'm a sucker for gentlemen thieves/cops & robbers, Jekyll-Hyde dynamics and Catwoman/Spider-Man-esque acrobats. Real shame that turned out the way that did.

I love all your different names for Tom Lone. XD But sheesh -- the comic may be better than the movie, but it is still far from good. Development Hell apparently did not treat this script well! And that costume -- you are COMPLETELY on the ball that her outfit for robbing the jewelry store is a much better one than what she eventually ends up in. I am astonished the costume designer insists on defending it. "Your incompetence is staggering" indeed. Thanks for doing this review so I never have to think about this Catwoman again. :p

15:10-God, it's been almost a decade since we got the "Linkara's crush on Harley Quinn" thing
Here’s an idea for a Catwoman movie- Selina’s fresh from Blackgate and already planning a big job, but it’s one Gordon couldn’t really be angry at her for. Joker, Penguin, Two-Face, and Scarecrow are planning something big, so she plans to rob them blind and then bring Batman down on them... and as a personal challenge, she decides not to let Batman know what she’s doing. The movie would be an action/heist film with some comedic moments, usually from Selina’s wit or Joker being... Joker. I think with the right cast and writing, it could be great.
Laurel Hedare's plan in this is a bad version of Roland Daggett's in BTAS's Feat of Clay. The whole "Get people addicted to my makeup so they'll pay me for more of it."

Personally I feel the movie is also garbage for its attempts at female empowerment, which just cause it to come off as pretentious. The "male academia" line is especially cringe worthy, the old lady's ideas were something women would find equally stupid.
13:05 17:00 The handwriting "sample" in the movie was much more "stylish" clearly suggesting that both notes were written by the same person. This comic makes the handwriting look basic which clearly suggests that anyone could write these notes.

Man, I am still waiting for Dan Olson's breakdown of that film. That's right up there with 'Suicide Squad' winning Best Makeup over 'Star Trek Beyond' (seriously, the head tentacle piece in that film alone should have won it) or, let's be brutally honest here, 'Green Book' winning Best Picture over... oh, almost any other nominated film (except 'Vice' which I thought was just awful or 'Bohemian Rhapsody').
Let's just hope John Wick Chapter 3 doesn't suffer same fate as Spiderman 3 and Terminator 3.

Gods, I remember seeing the ads for this film as a kid and being so stoked about a Catwoman movie because she was my absolute favorite Batman villain growing up. The disappointment that followed was palpable. 8l

I just saw Madam Web and it's uncanny how similar that film and Catwoman really is, even down to the main character getting her powers after dying from drowning.

17:00 I always took both Selina and Patience’s transformations as a bit of an impulse control issue. Cats are generally known as the Not Giving A Damn species. You feed, water and toilet them and they will still ignore you, slice you open and be little shits regardless. They don’t blindly worship you like a dog. A saying I love is “When a dog loves you it means you have met that dog. When a cat loves you, it means it loves you.” A cat does what it wants, regardless of what you want it to do unless it truly loves you. They’re independent to an extreme.
A human with cat personality traits is going to struggle massively with required impulse control. When a cat sees something it wants to move, it knocks it over. That’s all it cares about: what it wants. Humans have to constantly stop ourselves from doing what we want due to the social contract and punishments for breaking it. She is overtaken by the cat personality aspects she’s gained and acts like a cat with the brain of a human: I want it, mine now. It’s akin to certain types of being high, or perhaps being drunk. She’s not thinking about the consequences because she’s drunk on cat personality. When she comes down, she realizes that she did a thing she shouldn’t do, and tries to reverse it. It’s not a split personality so much as it is new catlike personality traits that were artificially inserted by cat magic not yet achieving homeostasis with her human personality.
Huh, the comic version of a costume actually doesn't look nearly as bad as the live action version.
It's not just the height of the fall that makes it deadly, the landing can be the difference between survival or death. My parents had a friend that was a roofer that died from a two or three story fall because of how he hit the ground. So falls are not something to underestimate in their lethality.
I kind of think they should reintroduce Patience as a real Batman villain, a sort of magical version of Catwoman. She could be something like her Man-Bat.

gotta agree on the "skimpier =/= better" thing. a good example in my mind is Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, who spends alot of time with a jacket but without pants (at least in Stand Alone Complex) but that's not especially appealing to me, personally, and i think he looks much better in the tactical gear that she's also frequently shown in--pants, long-sleeved shirt, combat boots, gloves, flak jacket, etc.
Good lord, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one annoyed that Harley's been more Suicide Squad inspired than anything lately. Look, it's not *terrible* but I feel like it just doesn't work for her that much over some of the other stuff. Hell, the last of the Arknam games borrowed the hairdoo but the leather jacket and catsuit worked FAR better for example.

Vidocq is actually a watchable, albeit incoherent, film. I never realized it was by the same director. The closest comparison I can probably draw is the movie version of From Hell.
Considering the breadcrumbs presented in the film that couldve been connected to actual villains from the books, I feel like the villains should’ve been Black Mask and Lady Granite.
The funniest thing in the world to me is that my brother used to watch Catwoman a lot in middle school just so he could ogle Halle Berry. At the time, he would get offended whenever I called the movie shit... now he just gets embarrassed and pissed off at me if I mention his Catwoman phase.
Honestly I love this movie. Every single scene is absolutely hilarious. The scene where Patience jumps out of the window, does a 360 spin in mid air for no reason, lands in front of some guy's car ass-first, start seducing said car, and then when the very innocent man gets out to see if she's okay, she for some inexplicable reason says a one liner, kicks his ass, and then steals his car, is one of the most magical movie experiences I have ever had.
Catwoman in her black jumpsuit, leaving a lot to the imagination, is honestly much sexier than Harley's barely there schoolgirl outfit. Less isn't more.
