This songs is completely bananas, with complex arrangements vocal harmonies. See what I have to say about this fun performance Queen did for their song.

Queen always sang and played live, but here, and in more appearances around this time, they were forced to do playback and they hated it. Roger always makes me laugh, you can see he wasn’t even trying. One of the things I admired the most about them is how much effort and dedication they put in their live shows, one of the few bands that sounded even better live. You should react to Killer Queen Live at Montreal 1981, it’s a little shorter because it’s a medley along with I’m In Love With My Car, which is sang entirely by Roger, I think you would love that one too!

Queen always prided themselves on live performance, in the 70s it was commonplace for TV shows to demand miming as it cost too much in time and effort to set up multiple bands on these kind of shows, so bands like Queen didn't especially like these kind of shows so understandably they would look bored.

This is what I call the perfectly written song! Anyway, Queen hated having to mime their performance! It’s like asking Michael Phelps to show us the butterfly while laying on a bench! 🤣 Freddie would mouth the words out of sync on purpose!! Hahaha!! You should check out Top of the Pops performance of LAS PALABRAS DE AMOR (a song dedicated to their South American fans). In the 70’s Freddie wore black nail polish on the left hand & Brian wore white nail polish on the right hand. So cool & now it’s time to paint my nails!! 💅🏻

      Hi!
I couldn't find an article so it might be said differently, but on the you tube award, they say they all had top hits, they didn't say they all had no 1s
where it gets muddy, they were awarding 'Queen' as in Freddie,John,Brian and Roger
but Brian performed Rock you which was his revised version of the song which he did after Freddies death, performed by five live with Roger and Brian playing on the track and shown in the background of the video
I guess it's still Queen if the original band still receive royalties off it,I have no idea, but that's not what people consider a Queen track, though in a sense it is..
It was no 1 with Queen in france which I didnt realise!
at the time champions was considered more of a success than rock you
but now Queen version of rock you is probably wider known, popular
no disrespect to the Netherlands,I'm sure they would still be glad if their song was no1 there or anywhere
but normally the Uk or US is considered as in was it a no1,a hit..
      can't find champions as no1
Flash was in Ausria,I didn't know that!
      Ga Ga netherlands
      also brake free
can't find anything for Inv man
they all had hits, fan favourites and songs that are still well known, for John best Friend has become as well known and probably more used than his us no1 AOBTD!
and freddies DSMN which only charted as no9 at the time has done very well now
it's odd how it works out
it's fun to see knew reactors
I need to be honest,I don't know a lot of Queen songs..
then they realise they actually do!
or surprised the covered or sampled version they know came from Queen..
they have a career they can all be proud of that's for sure!

  • @celticpoet21
    @celticpoet21 3 роки тому +2

Fabulous classic! Queen just makes everything better! I hear you, the fact they sound spectacular on record and even better live is a testament to their pure talent! The experience must have been pure torture for them to have to mime and also a major insult to their artistic talent and professional integrity. What also sucks is they actually never played the entire song through live, it was always part of a medley, including Roger Taylor's "I'm in love with my car" (live at Montreal is highly recommended). They definitely put the glam in glam rock! In their early years, they wore vintage outfits during concerts and they all shared outfits, mixing and matching as needed. Freddie and Roger also ran a vintage clothes stall together and when it came to looking for possible items to sell, Freddie definitely lived by the motto "one man's trash is another man's treasure" if you catch my drift. Please do more Queen reactions! 39, my fairy king, march of the black queen, long away, princes of the universe, you and I are just some of the many fantastic studio songs! check them out!

They used the trick of speeding up the then usual analog tape, thus making the back up vocals really tight and high pitched in places. E.g if the standard speed of the tape was 19 centimetres per second, speeding it up to 38, twice as fast would mean going up an octave. :)

  • @j0hnf_uk

This was standard practice back in the 70's whenever a band, 'performed', their latest hit on TV. They mimed to a playback, and basically just went through the motions of appearing to play/sing. Queen didn't like the idea, but if they wanted exposure, it was something they had to do. The BBC were even worse in some respects as they had a musicians' union that insisted that a certain percentage of all musical broadcasts had the BBC orchestra, (or elements of it), included in any, 'live', performances. Which meant artists who appeared on TOTPs, had a choice of either miming to their own song or, they could play live, but the instrumentation part had to be performed by members of the BBC orchestra. Most bands opted for the former, as they didn't particularly want 50 year old blokes who were more used to playing light entertainment numbers as part of an orchestra, murdering their songs! There's plenty of videos of singers who chose to have a, 'live', performance, on UA-cam, where they perform their songs whilst a rendition of their music is supplied by part of an orchestra! Luckily, once the 80's arrived, a lot of that changed.
Queen in one particular rabbit hole you ought to get yourself lost down. Not a duff track to be had, anywhere.

Yes, now and then the artists were not motivated at all to make something out of it.
But then you could see it well and you knew it was playback.
One of those TV programs with almost everything playback was AVRO's Toppop, Toppop for short, it broadcast from September 22, 1970 to June 27, 1988 in the Netherlands.
Queen was also seen there in 1974 with "Queen - Killer Queen • TopPop"

Very probably faking it as that is what happened when they appeared on Top Of The Pops on the BBC with this song (which Freddie and the boys were really pissed about), I’ve heard Roger ripping the BBC a new hole for forcing them to use props like a plastic drum kit and so on while a backing tape played! And if memory serves me they only ever played on US TV show where yes, they played live. The song I think was Crazy Little Thing Called Love 😊

Roger was not impressed that the symbols were plastic!
They had three performances in 74 with seven seas then another three with killer Queen
No wonder they sent a video for bo rap, just as well it was no 1 for 9 weeks!

The lack of enthusiasm is because they hated to "pretend" in this kind of dubbed performances (as I suppose all true musicians do), as it can be seen in the film "Bohemian Rhapsody"... Brian isn't even "playing" his signature Red Special here! XD

All appearances on Top of the Pops were lip synched as they featured
many different songs from the top ten in just half an hour. Queen hated
performing this way. You'll notice the lack of an electrical cord on
both guitars, Roger's less than enthusiastic drumming and Freddie
'playing' with John's base was only possible as they were miming!

They aren't singing in this video..its lip syncing and they were really irritated that the BBC wouldn't let them play it live!

They had done three performances earlier in the year with seven seas of rhye so they knew the drill!
Yeah Roger was so cross the symbols were plastic!
But atleast it gave them tv coverage
But it made them want to send in a video for bo rap!
