Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another first time reaction made possible via PATREON with The Cranberries with 'ZOMBIE." A deep emotional song with a true story behind war, violence, and devastation. Dolores O'Riordan vocals soar with her use of chest voice, head back to falsetto. She's got amazing control but it's exactly what makes this song supreme along with the guitar riffs and killer bass. See it now!

I constantly miss Dolores, her voice, her beauty ... On January 15th 2018, the world of music lost a Great Artist with such a unique voice and left an inconsolable band & fans. On that sad date, I knew a part of my teenage years was gone with Dolores, she literally branded my life forever. We'll never forget You Dolores !!! You have been, are and will forever be cherished ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙏😢⭐

Wow, it's been 4 years but only feels like yesterday. RIP Dolores. 😞
@@MarkRadford78 It really does, i was lucky enough to see them live in the late 90's, and she, well they all were, absolutely brilliant. Her voice always has me transfixed. She was one of a kind and im still not over it ;(
i grew up in Belfast, born there in the 70s, still here, know this song well, things maybe aren't as bad as they were in the past, the paramilitaries' no longer kill people from the other communities, instead they have turned the guns on their own communities to keep themselves in control of the streets , the peace walls separating the communities have been made higher while the paramilitaries have grown more powerful with thousands of members, this song has always made me emotional , some of the video was made where i used to hang around as a kid. i know we are living in a tinder box and that it would only take a spark to reignite the troubles, i wish more people could see what this song is saying, thank you Dolores O Riordan, may you rest in peace x, they released this after the IRA killed two brothers whilst buying a mothers day card aswell as others on that day,, two children of the many that lost their lives during this time
I feel the same this song is deep Especially when from Belfast/ Northern Ireland and we know the truth! ❤
Hi Dereck, I love your channel 🥰 The way Dolores sings, that sounds like yodeling, is called Keening. It's a traditional Irish style of singing for those mourning and is often sang around the graveside at a funeral xxx
Terrific reaction. RIP Dolores O'Riordan.
Yes it is! But wait a second, has this guy being living in a cave? how the hell did he not hear it before? No radio, no movies, no nothing? oO "i think i know this one" LOL
I grew up with The Cranberries. I fell in love with them on their first album. No Need To Argue is my album! Love it! So sad that she’s no longer with us.
She is the best artist ever, sensitive, honest and original. She changed my life.
No need to argue album is the best masterpiece of a decade.
The DIRECTOR created the visual narrative. The band created the stellar lyrics and music.
This was the 90s, when musicians knew to turn their videos over to narrative storytellers.
Glad that you got the message.
How do we know that this is an incredible song ? Because Derek stay still for almost the entire song... Thank you for this reaction ❤ and thank you Dolores & The Cranberries for giving us all these beautiful and meaningfull songs ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on The Cranberries. This song is one of the biggest and most famous rock songs of the 90's after "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana (1991) and "November Rain" (1991) by Guns N'Roses! It will also remain one of my favorites of the group and of the 90's in the rock group category with also The American group: The Offspring (Come Out And Play, Self Esteem).
It was released on September 13, 1994 as the first single from their second album "No Need To Argue", ranked no.1 for 9 consecutive weeks in the TOP 50 in France and sold 484,000 copies becoming gold during the year 1995.
I remember very well this song that I loved, I was in high school! Loved it so much that I bought it on a 2-track CD at the time. The song is shorter on the single CD.
It was on the radio all the time, and the music video also caught my attention, different from what was being done at the time with this gold color on the singer and the children.
The version that played on the radio is shorter than that of the clip and album. There is even another version of the clip called (alternate version) because the videoclip was banned at the time by the BBC channel: ua-cam.com/video/95HqlWRFrAk/v-deo.html (alt. version).
The music video was shot by Samuel Bayer in Belfast with real footage from The Troubles (started since the end of the 60s), children, British soldiers on patrol as well as various murals.
It's a protest song that evokes the conflict in Northern Ireland and a tribute to the two boys, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, who were killed by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) in a shopping center during the Warrington bombings on March 20, 1993.
Other The Cranberries HITS: Linger (1994), Ode To My Family (1994), I can'T Be With You (1995): one of my fav song in this album, Ridiculous Thoughts (1995) and for their third album in 1996: Salvation, Free To Decide and finally the fourth album: Just My Imagination (1999).
Unfortunately female singer Dolores O'Riordan passed away on January 15, 2018.
Thanks for your amazing work our American pal. 👍🇫🇷
Cranberries have several wonderful songs; "Dreams" "Linger"
One of the best reactions to this song/video. Dolores' voice was unparalleled and Fergal's drumming on this song is other-worldly. I miss Dolores and the band. RIP
Memories of my childhood growing up in the middle of the troubles in Northern Ireland 😢
It's not just a song that's a hymn ❤
What is doing with her voice is known as "Keening" its traditional Gaelic form of singing for lamenting the dead. Deloris was special, so sad she's gone.
saw them in concert, she was just as brilliant as on record. f'n love the cranberries!
Dolores O’Riordan Sinead O’Connor and many other Irish singers do these inflections it’s called Keening (Irish: Caointeoireacht) it’s a traditional form of vocal lament for the dead in the Celtic tradition in Ireland. Keening, which can be seen as a form of Sean-nós singing. Some people see there’s a connection between this and Arabic singing..
If you want to see a link below for your own curiosity it’s a woman singing Sean nós In her native Irish language.

Je suis allée écouter et j'ai beaucoup apprécié.
Amazing song ! I saw The Cranberries , in France. Dolores has recorded two wonderful solo LP.
Your viewers will fill you in with the background of this song. They will not let you down.
One of the most beautiful voice ever I heard...
I saw the Cranberries live at Milton Keynes bowl back in the 90's, they were supporting REM. Radiohead was there too. Omg, that was the best ever. The cranberries were amazing!! I'll never forget it. ❤️
I was there too ... such a wonderful night.
I was 14, very powerful song, very grunge vibe. Still love it. She was a beauty with a great voice.
They really couldn't have gone more graphic for the video because those soldiers and playing children are not acting. It's real footage filmed under the guise of making a documentary. The BBC initially already refused to air it for being too graphic as it is.
The album that this came off is one of the best complete albums of the 1990`s in my opinion, there are (again, my opinion, as music is art and art is always subjective) are a few bands and specifically a few albums from those bands that defined the sound of the era and are albums that can still be listened to from start to finish where every track is simply superb..The Cranberries "No Need To Argue", Counting Crows "August And Everything After", The Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream", Portishead "Dummy" and The Verve "Urban Hymns" , Live "Throwing Copper"...are six just off the top of my head...there was some real garbage on the airwaves too in the 90`s but there was soooo much gold too...a great decade for music!
I disagree about The Verve and Counting Crows but otherwise SPOT ON : )
@@janosfernandez945 and that`s what`s beautiful about music...it`s art..and art is always subjective to everyone except the artist...
Dolores had bigger vocals and bigger balls than most boys that attempted Rock and Roll.
Probably the only popular song that features the Irish tradition of 'Keening', commonly in mourning... This absolutely breaks me every time!
So much emotion in this song. Kateryna Pavlenko from the Ukrainian band Go_a who participated in Eurovision 2021 reminds me a little of Dolores. They have the same intensity in their voice.
Dereck. Zombie is a powerful song. The Cranberries was famous in the US in 1994. I have great memories listening this song during my high school senior year. You made it to one of the biggest bands of all times. Enjoy the ride!!!
This is just so sad such a loss rip Dolores 🖤
Irish it's called Keening the action of wailing in grief for a dead person.
"the keening of grieving mothers tore into an otherwise silent afternoon" Keening (Irish: Caointeoireacht) is a traditional form of vocal lament for the dead in the Gaelic Celtic tradition, known to have taken place in Ireland and Scotland. Keening, which can be seen as a form of sean-nós singing, was performed in the Irish and Scottish Gaelic languages. The tradition was once widespread, declining from the 18th century and being almost completely extinct by the middle of the 20th century. The Scottish equivalent of keening is known as a coronach. Peace out.
A Real political and committed song carried by the extraordinary voice of Dolores. 🍀
Hi Derek, l believe this song was written after a IRA bomb blast killing children. Making it clear that both sides were fighting a war in their heads the children were innocent and like most things were taught intolerance by the parents. God bless her she was a big loss.
The first rock song i ever liked, this song is iconic and will always represents the 90's for me. A much much better happier time.
Happier time, but the lyrics are very sad.
@@samueldevulder indeed
RIP Dolores O'Riordan. A beautiful soul. Thanks Dereck for respecting the song.
Another iconic 90s song. I absolutely love this song and the story behind it 😍
900,000,000 million of those views were mine. This is my all-time favourite song.
The way she's singing is a popular, traditional Irish style called keening, usually used for mourning. This is, of course, about Ireland. The Troubles specifically.
Delores was flawless. Saw her live twice she could bounce her wail off of the back of the arena at the end of DREAMS. I MISS HER.
Dolores will be missed forever. RIP
She told him to hit those drums as hard as he could. It's not falsetto. It is the Irish Yodel, distinctive to the Irish. But she is maintaining chest voice while she does it.
Moved from France to Limerick years ago. Always been a big fan of her. So sad she passed away.😫
RIP Dolores...
I was at their very last concert in London! Just special!
I've seen several reactions to this video and I think you are the first to recognize that her voice sounds like it is crying. Beautiful.
RIP Delores, im still not over it :(
i really love this song and i also really loved when they re did it in her honor its an amazing video just crazy how these performers know what message what they want to share
At this point you know your 90s rock without even having to look up the facts. Great reaction!
The time of troubles in Ireland ended shortly after this released. And nowadays this song is practically a national anthem. There's a video of UFC fighter Aisling Daly entering to this song in Dublin and the whole stadium just goes absolutely nuts.
Bad Wolves did an AMAZING cover of this song 💔
This song has an absolute choke hold on me, I literally cry everytime I hear the part at 7:20 It's fucking gut wrenching
This song is about a bomb attack that the IRA carried out in Warrington (England) where two young boys were killed.
RIP Dolores gone never forgotten. Her voice was amazing still gives me chills.
This has to be played so loud your ears almost bleed, because it sounds so so good, and is so sad at the same time. Do not forget, they had lots of other really good songs. .
They are not a one hit wonder. Ode to my family . . .
I knew you would have to hit the 'Approved' switch right from the start. It was only going to be a question of when!
beautiful delores with the immaculate voice
I was 22 when this played everywhere!!
Very few times in my life have I thought we have lost something important and irreplaceable when any artist dies. But this was a huge loss for the world. Never getting to hear a Dolores song again sucks. Over 1 billion views of this video. Dolores truly affected the world with her talent and sensibilities. She wrote the song, played and wrote the guitar solo and told drummer Fergal to hit the drums really hard. Noel layered three different guitars to get that awesome sound. Going to miss seeing The Cranberries and their amazing synergy as a band. RIP Dolores.
We miss Her so much...
You should react to Bad Wolves' version of this song. She was supposed to join them in recording it the morning she was found dead. They recorded the song and created the video in her honor, with all proceeds going to her children. STRONG performance and will bring tears to your eyes.
You react to a song like this, with it's message... And we are on the way to another war, in this case, in Ukraine. Too many Zombies in the world. How sad, man, we didn't learn anything.
Seems like we are always creating new Zombies.
Спокойной ночи этой девочке((Ангелочек вернулся на небо.
Great reaction Dereck, thank you so much for your emotional reaction while appreciating Dolores's voice, the fantastic band and the video. She's Irish and sang about the war in Northern Ireland, where many innocent souls lost their lives on both sides. This song has received more that 1billion views on UA-cam. Please pray for the people in Gaza, Palestine etc. tonight. Peace to you all. Love from Ireland
wowwww i cant stop crying ???? Whats wrong with me.....???? I saw her the very first time performing ZOMBIE MAYBE late show David Letterman early 90s Wearing an Black long Trenchcoat I belive...??? But I was Blown away at her performance/Voice/NMusic Style...???? I will never forget that experience I had on television.....????? Now she"s Dead ???? Died too young...???? Ahhhhh this song takes me back to being 16 years old and in high school, LOVE it!!!
Hi Derek! Greetings from Chile!! React to Zombie mtv unplugged by the cranberries !!! It's amazing 😮😮😮😮
Loved your appreciation for this band and the meaning behind it.
There is a metal band called bad wolves. They were doing a remake of this sing. Delores was going to be in it as the golden girl.on the day they were to start filming she passed. They went ahead and did the video. You should check it out
Bad Wolves we’re going to do a Collaboration with her but she passed away on the day. Please check their version out a fitting tribute to Dolores
Absolutely worth doing a reaction to their version as a follow up. 👍
They donated all of the credits to her family i heard
Totally on it
Take on me from A-ha is another one with over one billion views...
I love your point about going back to a song and seeing different things. I’m paraphrasing. As I get older I am enjoying/ sometimes disturbed (good/bad) by what I hear.
The Cranberries ... super great ... Now, try "The Corrs" and "Sinéad O'Connor" too :)
Europe here !
The Cranberries, toute ma jeunesse à jamais avec Dolores 🙏
Such a beautiful song on a terrible subject.
I've heard that Brexit may stir up again tensions in Ireland. I really hope this song theme will stay in the past where it should be 😥
Religions should be able loving and respecting each other, never killing others...
Hi Dereck, you're the best!
Grettings from México
Bananas!
RIP Dolores. Big tragic loss to the world.
One of my favorites is this version where she sings live backed by a complete orchestra : ua-cam.com/video/Nv89TpYri6I/v-deo.html
I still have goosebumps..

Magnifique , merci Dereck..en souvenir de Dolores...

RIP Delores! I always heard this song, but wasn't until the video that I "felt" the lyrics, ya know? Amazing voice, and of course, Reaction!!🍌❤✌
My mom's favorite song and she's 72!
This amazing song has been sang by the "Bad Wolves" in an incredible version too. The acoustic one is as powerful.
I heard their version too and when I saw the clip, I liked the référence to the original one with the woman covered of gold paint
A masterpiece. Rip Dolores 🙏
A-ha, Take on me, 1Billion
Rest in peace Dolores
R.I.P Dolores such a beautiful voice one of kind singer. Love this song gives me chills makes me want to rock out turn thr volume all the way up. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 one my all time fav songs. You should do the song When Your Gone. Sooo pretty.
If u try This kind of song … u can try U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday ;)
Now check out Bad Wolves cover of this song and the story behind the cover.
Again, Thx! ;-)
if you search after another song with a background, you can always try "Bruce Springsteen - American skin".
This was a scream it at the top of your lungs while driving with the windows up songs.
Yeah, this is a BIG ONE, but The Cranberries are even more than “Zombie”
11:07 yes, she was Irish
Dereck, listen to A pleasure by The Railway Children.
Greatly missed, the great Dolores O'Riordan. Her voice was something else, all in a league of her own, and very distinctive as well. This song, to me, is a masterpiece. RIP Dolores, God speed. To me the kids in gold and the cross represent the suffering (the cross) and the innocence and purity (the innocence of children and the purity of gold as a metal) marred forever by war. IMHO the meaning of the word zombie related to this song means the mindless act of violence committed during The Troubles and the kids playing 'war games' is them doing what they have seen all their lives. The Bad Wolves version of this song is also beautiful, you should check it out at some point. Forgot to add the footage in the video is real soldiers and real kids. The video director filmed the scenes in Belfast shortly before the peace agreements, they are not actors. Thank you, Derek, for this reaction video, probably the best one I've seen about this song.
Classic goodness love you
