  • I don't care if you never come home.
I don't mind if you just
Keep on rowin'away on a distant sea
cuz I don't love you and you don't love me.
You cause a commotion when you come to town
You give 'em a smile and they melt
Having lovers and friends is all good and fine
But I don't like yours and you don't like mine.
    La la la ...
I don't care what you do at night oh
I don't care how you get your delights
    We'll leave it alone
    We'll just let it be
I don't love you and you don't love me.
    I got a problem
    Can you relate?
    I got a woman
    Callin' love hate.
    We made a vow
    we'd always be friends.
How could we know that promises end.
    La la la ...
I tried to love you for years upon years
But you refuse to take me for real
It's time you saw what I want you to see
That I'd still love you if you'd just love me.
    I got a problem
    Can you relate?
    I got a woman
    Callin' love hate.
    We made a vow
    we'd always be friends.
How could we know that promises end.
    La la la ...

Eric Clapton was born to ooze music. He is one of the few musicians whose work you not only hear and feel, but I can actually taste his music. It has a certain flavor to it.
There are better players, better singers, better songwriters, but this man was simply born to make a difference in people's lives with his gift of musical talent. Nobody is God except God, but I think Eric has been to heaven and back.

You can really here Don William's influence on Clapton in this song, same ease in his voice and low tones. He and Don had become very good friends around this time, Don had given him Tulsa Time (which Don also had a hit with) around this time as well. I can almost here Don singing this song as well, just sounds so much like one of his songs. Clapton is amazing and got all of his credit for his career....I wish the same could be said for Don. He passed away earlier this year virtually unknown. HE had so many great songs, such a great voice and a gentle soul. But even with all of that, I would be shocked if I could find 5 people that know who he was....really sad.

Yeah, this song fits like a glove. :)

Picking one Eric Clapton song as the very best he ever did, is a hard choice, given how many GREAT songs he has done. But this is not a bad choice, at all.

It reminds me of a relationship I was in for a long while, then you both move in different directions and realize one day that you're making each other unhappy, and it's time to go your seperate ways. It's a very melancholy song from one perspective, but also liberating, moving on. one gets the impression that one loved the other than the love came back.

I only heard it the one time on XM, but I just kept rewinding and replaying.
Yes, 15$ a month may seem pricey, but everytime I tune an FM station and I have to listen to the never ending stream of ads, it's worth it. And the djs these days are just not for me anymore.

It's such a care free song. The lyrics are too surreal.
A 'Even as friends we just need to part ways'. This hits too close to home.

    Tengo casi 60

This is such a beautiful song -- one of my very favorite EC tracks.
    It's a victim of Clapton's own success:
From almost any other, merely-human rock-star, it'd be deemed a masterwork; from EC, given the magnitude, breadth, depth, and brilliance of his body of work, it's an also-ran, nearly forgotten -- eclipsed by so many other iconic treasures he's given us.
MelodyChiappetta, thank you for posting it here at the higher bitrate, so it'll sound better to us perfectionist-types. Ya done good.

It's funny, Clapton is most known as being a guitar god, and yet, there aren't that many of his radio hits that rely on a guitar solo to carry the song. This is such a great song with such a great hook that doesn't have to shout out the guitar chords in order to reinforce his divinity.
I enjoy listening to his guitar solos, but this quiet little diddy is my favorite of all his songs.

I've been thinking about that as well. What I find really strange though is that a lot of his most revered guitar work was done in Cream, and Cream seems to have kind of slipped through the cracks as far as remembering classic rock goes, at least when it comes to pop culture and merchandise, but everyone know's Clapton's name, but most of his best guitar work was done in the 60s or very early 70s before he went solo, which he did some very nice stuff like this, it just puzzles me how certain things get remembered in certain ways.

I think he is one of the most simplistic guitarrists ever, and one of the most versatile. It's incredible how he is responsable for something like 'White Room', from Cream, and for 'I've got a rock n'roll heart', which is one of my favourites. 'Old Love', from his solo carreer, is a masterpiece. He is one of the greatests blues guitarrists alive too, and it's just awesome how the list goes on.
