The fact that I haven’t even heard about this boycott says a lot about it’s success.
Probably because its been almost exclusive on Twitter.
You literally just have.
Facts
@@M0rshu64 true I always wonder how people find out about these things, then I remember I don't have Twitter
havent heard about this game
I am proud of you Muta for finally being able to afford a new shirt to wear in a video after moving for like the fourth time in two years.
I'm sure he could afford his own clothing line
@@johnbrackettii9468 have you ever heard of the concept of “jokes”?
@@johnbrackettii9468 Muta can’t even afford food let alone clothing, he lives off of gfuel and the occasional free sample at his local supermarket
He lives solely off of the free assorted cheese samples at Costco.
Muta's only income is the babysitter money he gets for sitting his nieces.
The biggest takeaway from this boycott, and something I feel a lot of chronically online people often miss is that twitter is not the real world.
A vast amount of people don't even know this controversy is a thing.
Lol it’s because nobody cares about Twitter anymore it’s full of political bullshit and being “canceled” over tweets or sayin something is pathetic why have Twitter lol when you can use the community tab on UA-cam tweets are fun but it sucks people are too sensitive on there anyways so yeah man I fully agree on your statement 😎
I have a friend who just buys games and doesn't care about what the developers or the people say about it. That simple. If he sees a good game then he will buy it, and if the game sucks then he won't. Ultimately, if everyone did this again then you can tell game companies how to make their games good without saying a word.
The only language they understand is $$$
@Brokemono I get what you're saying, but buying a game or making a game better doesn't suddenly stop the one who made it from being racist, homophobic, sexist, ect.
Buy and play it if you want i don'tcare, but the controversy, if you watched the video, NEVER had anything to do with whether the game itself played good or not. So, your friends thing with not looking into game *quality* has nothing to do with this situation if he doesn't at all care about the creator spewing anti-human rights hatred.
"The only language they understand is $$$"...exactly. Which are why people are trying to BOYCOTT IT. Not because it's a bad game, but the person who made Harry Potter, Is transphobic...you watched the video right????
@@fredericksaxton9782 oh shut up you woke liberal go complain on Twitter or go cancel someone the Harry Potter franchise is way too popular and nobody cares about a few tweets also where is your proof lol exactly mullah is better then taking off a game that was spent with a huge budget how about you go complain about someone that made fun of you on Twitter this is why you live in your mothers fucking basement 🤣 and yes the video doesn’t fucking count she wasn’t being “anti human” or whatever bullshit your smoking Jesus Christ your not some 45 year old man in a basement your a fucking 12 year old corrupted and influenced by the big blue bird platform I hate your fucking generation for many reasons so fuck off you stupid pathetic degenerate

If you wanna boycott the game and tell people to boycott the game it's fine. Just don't go out of your way to tell people that they're bad for playing the game.
That is my stance on it. I refuse to buy it new and will encourage others to do so, but I’m not about to stand in someone’s way if they want to buy it themselves.
I’m pretty sure this is what the majority of people against the game is doing. As always it’s the small minority who has been blown out of proportion.
If buying this game makes you a bad person then I will happily be the worst person.
Sadly that’s just the world we live in today. If you don’t agree with me I’ll label you with something awful.
…and before someone from the left says “the right does that all the time”…so does the left.

@gundamstyle291 that is not an intelligent reaction. Just reactionary pedantry.
Hearing Muta mention My Immortal is like seeing a character that has been absent for many seasons finally show up again.
The nostalgia just hit me like an ICBM
It took me a few minutes until I realised and was like "did he just say .....???" 🤣🤣🤣
Holy shit that one is pure gold, because it's absolute cringe inducing stuff, hits you like freight train after doing a rail of coke from a train rail.
You mean 'My Immoral'?
after he said that the Internet Historian videos immediately appeared in my mind
They can't even leave it at boycott tho. They're harassing and threatening devs and voice actors. Absolute MADNESS!
They also threaten and harass anyone who buys the game or any other Harry Potter merchandise. Keep in mind that the ones who started the boycott are the fringe area of the trans community and their allies. The fringe crowd is already in issue within the LGBT community at times since their views of gender identity tend to be rather spread out and loose. I can understand being respectful of someone's preferred gender and pronouns, but it becomes a problem when the fringe go as far as defending the pronouns of known sex offenders, harassing cisgender gays and lesbians that won't adjust their sexual orientation to accommodate so-called trans people that only change their pronouns and nothing else, referring to cisgender folks by slurs such as "menstruators" or "breeders" ; or harassing and threatening anyone who doesn't agree with their ideals.
@@tanukidrummer I personally don’t agree with the whole thing but I will not stand in someone’s way to be who they want. My only request is that if I have to deal it then at least acknowledge that a man being a woman is essentially the equivalent to playing dress up with extra steps. Same goes for a woman being a man. Outside of that, be what you want to be, idc.
@@tanukidrummer They trawl through people's Twitter history and send death threats if they've liked a Tweet by an account they don't like.
Remember though, they are totally of sound mind and can definitely be trusted to behave themselves in bathrooms and shelters.
@@E-0921 the main reason for all the drama between the fringe group and everyone else is some of their ideals are far too abstract and demanding. It's one thing for a person who goes by pronouns that is the opposite of their birth gender. However it can be a problem when said person claims their birth anatomy should be regarded as their gender identity by others; and claiming that since they see themselves as other gender that them liking those that are biology the gender they see themselves makes them same sex. It's like someone who is still biologically female referring to their parts as male, and stating they are gay since they like men and demanding that gay men adjust their sexual orientation to fit them. Most gays and lesbians don't really like this since it's a rather annoying trope from straight people who try to seduce gays and lesbians and claiming they are like them (like a straight man trying to seduce a lesbian and claim he is also a lesbian because they're attracted to women). The more abstract ideals of the fringe trans crowd has also caused a rise not only in those like sex offenders using trans as a facade since the fringe would flock around them without a second thought, but also a rise in "Trans Trenders" - those who appropriate trans culture as a fad and degrade the reason for the movement. It's like how in the early 2000s there was a rise in metrosexuals, men who appropriate gay culture and mannerisms despite being straight, because of the popularity of "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy". The metrosexual trend itself was a problem not only because it caused gay men to be less outgoing for a time for fear of hitting on a straight dude, but it also made women of men in public since they had no clue if the fruity acting guy was a friendly gay wanting to chat; or some man acting gay to lure them into a false sense of security so they could be taken advantage of.
Also when it comes to some of the views of the fringe trans crowd, some of them are just too abstract to actually work in society. Take for example gender identities like areogender and colorgender. One is a gender in constant flux due to various environmental factors, and the other is a gender where one's gender is based on different shades and hues of color. In practice these gender identities are problematic because they would be kinda impossible to fit them into the current state of society. Since someone who is areogender bases their gender and pronoun usage on various factors in their environment, almost anything can alter it. For example if an areogender using she/her pronouns at the time goes into a restroom, would their pronouns and gender alter if one stall is out of order, there are two other people in the restroom; and a light is out? Colorgender is also problematic since one's usage of color would be completely different from someone else. For example if someone who is colorgender associates themselves with yellow and assigns feminine/female traits to that color, there is always going to be someone who is colorgender yellow that assigns masculine/male aspects to the same color. Heck the ideals of the fringe are so abstract and convoluted, that even members in the same group tend to butt heads. For every one person in the trans fringe who the gender identity and pronouns of a convicted rapist that comes as trans-female and request to be moved to a female prison or someone claiming their gender as dog and demand to be addressed as pupper, doggo, or bork as their preferred "pronouns", there are others that think these are just too out there to be serious.
@@tanukidrummer I’m not gonna lie, I tried to read every last bit that you typed and I got to aerosexual and that’s where I stopped lol. But I do see where you’re going with it though. It just seems like these fringe groups within the LGBTQ+ community just want to make up abstract sexualities because they’re bored. It shouldn’t be this complicated. Either you’re sexually attracted (legally speaking) to something or not. It’s like there’s this giant spectrum of sexualities when it’s either you’re hetero or homo. It doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that.
This type of guilt by association behavior regarding art/artist gets out of hand at times that it even extends to dead people from long ago, like HP Lovecraft and his works. The only time I can never disassociate art from artist were cases like Lostprophets. But that's just me.

@@Pandaxtor It depends on the person. Personally, I did stop buying or supporting anything Harry Potter related due to her behavior, and several of my friends who were originally fans of the series have done the same. They can't hurt her at this point because she just tell them to get bent and ignore them. They have no power over her after that. This game is a reminder that terrorism works. Harassment works. Violence is more powerful than any god. Remember who the REAL terrorists are and your moral right to end them. Its never wrong to act for the greater good.
Only 12 people who live on twitter are trying to cancel the game.
Most of the people who are saying they are going to boycott the game weren't going to buy it anyways. Thats how this always goes.
Group A doesn't like Product. The makers of Product have loyal fans who already like Product. The makers of product then change Product for Group A while not listening to the fans. Then, once Product is changed, Group A doesn't buy it for the changes to be profitable and they just turn away their fans
Me personally I just don't like JK Rowling very much so I'm hesitant, but to harass staff is absolutely cringe and inexcusable. It's everybody's personal decision to buy the game or not
Like vast majority of Harry Potter fans arent even "gamers" to begin with.
The product wasn't changed to cater to progressives anyways, the main plot is literally suppressing a goblin revolution (oft considered an antisemitic stereotype).
The people "boycotting" are just gonna pirate it anyway. They get to virtue signal, and play a game based off their favorite franchise for free
Which is why you should always ignore the 5 people complaining about nothing, and stay true to the fandom.
A boycott is when a customer base stops giving their business to someone. It doesn't work if you weren't buying their product in the first place.
Right
Pfft all this boycotting is just making me more interested, especially as I know some of devs

@@douchopotamus3755 I didn't say they were my friends. Is everyone you know in your life a friend?
I keep hearing about it because I'm in lgbt+ spaces, and I just... come on man. I'm trans. It's not gonna be transphobic for me to play my childhood escapism game. I want to support these artists as an aspiring video game artist myself- I can feel the passion oozing from this game.
The issue is that she gets money from the IP, and than uses that money to support legislation in the UK and abroad that hurt trans people. In addition the game doing well, especially after these issues have been raised gives explicit support for people like her to continue being openly awful. It says "You can be a transphobe and still get money" The goal isn't really to stop JKR, its to curtail the spread of transphobia and the like.
Honestly though, the response to this, and the SWELLING of Anti-trans laws world wide shows that the fight is already essentially lost. We aren't far off from being trans being effectively illegal in the US and UK. and it already is fully illegal in many places around the world.
Fights like this one are often just low hanging fruit for both sides. If the game does well it becomes a rallying point for transphobes, if it tanks, its a sigh of relief for many in the queer community.
true
@@LurkingGoblin I think I see where you're coming from, and thank you for being civil.
Admittedly though I can't see this game becoming a playing card for transphobes. Without JK it's a very poc and queer friendly game from what I've seen, and I imagine the game creators/artists/etc would defend it as such.
Of course most of my energy is put into queer issues in florida though as that's where I live, so I find it hard to wrap my head around those who've been telling people they're transphobic for playing Legacy when I'm more worried about my governer making transitioning impossible. These arent twitter posts, or hurt feelings, she's fighting against trans people on a legislative scale along many others in the self described TERF movement, and she even supports right wing qnti trans movements im the US.
I genuinely hope you understand.
@@belisarius6949 Even so, you still run into a situation where you can't force people to make a decision because you feel something is immoral. This boycott has shown the folly that if you let the 1% of your movement with the most extreme of positions take up the microphone (in this case, people accusing others of being transphobes just for playing a game made by a person with "extreme opinions" we'll just say), you have a good chance that the middle 50-70% of people who want to decide for themselves what they think will decide against you because you let the most obnoxious and unlikeable people of your side of the argument be the "spokespeople" in a way.
A comparison: If your position is that pineapple on pizza is good and then you let the school bully be the one to argue in favor of pineapple of pizza, it makes all the people who are undecided on the subject not side with you because the school bully that stole their lunch money yesterday is the one trying to argue in favor of pineapple pizza.
As a result, my advice at this point is that anyone you speak to on the subject of this boycott should be allowed to decide for themselves what they think of the game and if they end up wanting to buy the game, just allow yourself to disagree with them and not touch the subject ever again.

@@notafrogMC ugh, i unfortunately got to interact with one of said neckbeards in a discord server. it was because the neckbeards thought she was a trans woman. Because shes a buff woman. They thought that because there was a trans woman in a game that they should boycott it. it turns out that the woman they were LITERALLY CALLING A MAN IN DISCUSSIONS OF THE GAME BC THEY THOUGH SHE WAS TRANSGENDER wasnt even trans. they just assumed that she was the unnamed trans character because shes buff. the trans character was a trans man in an entirely different part of the game. it was very dumb.
as someone who wished the boycott worked, i do agree. All publicity is good publicity. i almost feel like a better tactic for the future would be aggressively promoting a different game. not even mentioning the game you dont want to see sold. I think its fair to talk about the game you want to boycott's flaws, but right now i seriously think drowning out the game with something else is the only potentially successful option
The people doing the boycott have taken the route of just saying you're transphobic if you just play the game
Ah yes, the “loving and tolerant” left 😌
I feel it's really as simple as: if you have bought the game, play it, enjoy it, like Harry Potter in general that doesn't make you transphobic. It never will. However, you have to acknowledge that a lot of what comes out of JK is pretty gross and not right at all. All I think people really want to see is people who bought the game and like it say "JK Rowling doesn't speak for me". Not like as a statement against her, but if it comes up on UA-cam or Twitter maybe you could slide it in?
There are plenty of folks on Twitter specifically just buying the game out of spite, and out of agreement with JK Rowling and that's also pretty gross. Granted they're a very loud minority but it doesn't help the optics of people wanting to play the game. Simplifying topics down to one or two talking points never helped anyone. It's better to have a conversation I guess, but Twitter specifically isn't the place to do that. I just find it best to look back at who's really being affected by all the discourse.
Nobody is asking you to be a crusader or anything, just to kinda call out unnecessary hate on either side when you see it. Hope this didn't come off as an attack, I just kind of kept typing but this is just my opinion.
im pretty sure people are actually angry about yknow, the jewish stereotype goblins that run BANKS and they're fighting for their rights and the whole game is about making sure the goblins don't have equal rights as the witches and wizards ? And ofc the stereotypes of asian people, saying Hermione is black but everyone makes fun of her for saying house elf slavery is bad, and her actions outside of harry potter are disgusting but that has nothing to do with the *actual* issues people are mentioning
@@foximoxi8533 Who said anything about being loving and tolerant? That's just a strawman

My general rule is to wait for reviews and if a game is well received then I'll wait for it to be discounted to 30€ or less. Sometimes I buy a full priced game, but usually about 1 per year if it's a game I really want (last one was Elden Ring).

I don't necessarily agree with everything she says, but at a very minimum I appreciate her being consistent and not being a hypocrite with respect to her own cause.
What did she say? Which of her transphobic comments would have been fine with the trans community 10-15 years ago.
She never flip-flopped. She has always been a Terf.
@@ThisChangeIsAwful Nobody gave a flying f about "transphobia" 15 or even 10 years ago. They were all about "women-only spaces", about how women should be safe from men, how every man is a rapist, how rape is the worst crime in existence. They preached pretty much exactly what she is saying. You can pretend otherwise all you want, but all this "transphobia" thing (which basically flips that script on its head) is very recent. It's the latest useful tool for the far left to gain power in society.
So you’re saying that people should be consistent in supporting others, even after a bunch of verifiable terrible stuff comes out about them?
That’s a pretty dumb take my dude.
@@laurentritton3106 No, what I am saying is that the people who are today trying to cancel her would have cheered for her a mere 10 years ago, for the exact same things.
@@WarpRulez Why would they have cheered for that? We're talking about the tumblr type crowd.
I appreciate your commentary on this issue. You've got your finger on the pulse of what's going on in my sphere. Liked and shared
I completely agree with Muta, just because you enjoy a certain IP that was created by someone you dislike doesn't mean you support their views in any way. For example, liking music made by Kanye West does not make you antisemitic imo. The only thing that happens when boycotting a game company using an IP is that the product ends up worse and the original creator of the IP isn't effected in any way. I also have the same belief as Muta, I couldn't care less what someone else decides to do with their life as long as they are happy and it doesn't hurt others.
I've been bashed because i said i liked the nazi uniforms, even tho i strictly said i just liked the style, nothing else.
Yeah like, Sia's meltdown over the failure of her movie was yikes, but that won't stop me from vibin' to Unstoppable
@@zalabit927 U right tho, they so stylish 😭
@@zalabit927 yeah, they’re sharp as fuck. Please look this up because I may be wrong but I think they were inspired by Massachusetts state police uniforms
There's an argument to be made that people will draw conclusions based on interests anyway, it's baseless but it happens. Doesn't matter your reasoning and that's fine - people don't have to agree with each other.
Liking music by Kanye West may not reflect your views but expressing you like his music can give that impression to other people. It's narrow-minded for sure but I don't bash it or attempt to argue against it. Fuck I don't like the show Friends because it's just got jokes that don't land for me but if someone else liked it I'd be like "eh not my thing but you do you".
The last serious Potter game was prisoner of Azkaban on PS2, nearly 20 years ago.
Lego Harry Potter was fun.
Prisoner of Azkaban on the GBA was also great. Loved that game when I was a kid.
I'll be buying it. As a writer, I believe that there is a certain point of success where the art eclipses the artist and the work belongs to not just you, but everyone. HP Lovecrafts work is a great example of that.
Completely agree. It's one of those situation where you have to separate the art from the artist.
That's easy to say when her stances don't affect you. She's come out multiple times and said she views support of harry Potter as support of her shitty views.
It's easier to seperate art from artist if the artist is already dead and therefore not able to profit off of it.
Edit: I want to clarify that I do not wish JK any harm. I simply think OPs comparison between an author that has been dead for a very long time and one that is still alive and collecting royalties is not a good comparison to make.
@@kieransky Oh my god you guys need actual help
@@gamerforlife3946 What did I say that makes you think that?
All I basicaly said is that JK still directly profits of her IP. What you want to do with that info is up to you.
The "hate marketing" strategy really is getting out of hand lately. I don´t want this to become the go to product advertising strategy of the near future, but it probably will.
I don't think I enjoyed the movies as much as I enjoyed the books, but maybe it was because I grew up reading them as they released.

Books just have way more content. It's a more complete story without compromises that should be done for a movie format.
I loved the movies, but started hating them after reading the books. They've removed so much content...
I seriously do not understand why people would deprive themselves of a potentially good product only because they disagree with people which in this case aren't even involved in making it. My only conclusion is that they were not going to buy it anyways. HP fans have been starving for a good game for YEARS. They are not giving up on this chance because of some mean tweets.
Maybe because trans and jewish people being allowed to exist is a more important issue than how long you've been waiting for a video game?
@@saysalla yes because a game not selling well is going to save trans and Jewish people.
@@rejd24 Witholding revenue from nazis is always the only humane option, no matter how big or little an impact it has. Every dollar not spent on her fascist products puts Rowling one dollar closer to starvation.
@saysalla You really can't be serious. I just looked at your other comments, and there is no way you believe the garbage you are spewing.

Bro how have you not heard of “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” especially with the Johnny Depp thing 🤣, love u Muta 😂💙
Sry but the Tweets from j.k. Rowling weren’t transphobic or some other bs. It’s her opinion and that ok as long as she won’t get personal. Everyone crying over these Tweets are weird af.
