@@xstreampunk7662 It's not. But in comparison to the original Dark Souls and with the wonky hitboxes especially, it's objectively worse than the original and subsequent titles. Though there are a few things in 2 that I thought were great ideas( how they handled new game+ for example).
@@Lobsterwithinternet personally, i prefer ds2 over ds1 mainly because of how ds2 features even tho a lot of them didn't get used much. i mean a boss would change phase based on your armor, torches can light scones and it will permanently lit up, ambidextrous hands, bonfire ascetic, a covenant where you defend an area and can use traps. in the end, combat wise, it's acceptable at best but feature wise, i like it more than what others do, and level design wise, i don't think any levels in any DS could even top Shulva or Brume tower to be honest. but it ain't that big of a deal
I don't shame people if you want to summon phantom you can. Asmon is one soul who think summoning against boss is a since even there not as good as play who solo and no hit these games
Not everyone hated it the pvp was the only real good thing overall but I enjoyed the game and have over 500hrs in total in that game alot of it was pvp
ds2 had issues but it felt weirdly nostalgic, even if you haven't played it before. just feels like a fever dream. the "too difficult issues" weren't the problem. once you know the damage mechanic its all get good at dodging and then attacking. its the too easy ones that make the game dreadful, especially when the mobs before it are way harder to deal with.
@@GenDrake3 i just played through sekiro and have gotten through shulva and am now on brume tower. Parrying is so instinctual it feels like cheating now. Honestly each souls transfers into the other just fine. Actually sekiro is closest in item usage, because the slowness of items matches the franticness and punishment of enemies in sekiro
I like that the pvp covenant guy that’s obsessed with blood is voiced by Con O’Neil, one of the actors in Chernobyl. He also voices Mohg in Elden Ring.

@@anstorner The DLC was by far the most bullshit part of the game. _What?_ I mean I liked the ideas behind them, but there's so much stupid shit. All of the fire crown areas, the entire snow field full of super-charged respawning death-reindeer. The twin tigers fight. Just the whole fucking fight and its existence. Seriously, I liked DS2 but if you're gonna claim the DLC was an improvement then wow, we clearly did not play the same fucking game.
@@Lucifronz I just recently played and got to NG+2 Drauglec castle (i wanted to kms so many times trying to get the last spells for the platinum trophy just so i didn't had to play DS2 never again), so i can express my current feelings about this because it changed massively about how i saw this game before and now. For me the worst area is Shrine of Amana and second Iron Keep, then Frigid Outskirts, Iron Passage then Cave of the Dead. The why is because these two first areas are 100% required to go through and are CBT both, and in NG+1 and beyond Red Phantoms start to appear everywhere, it made me feel so bad i had to avoid playing any souls until like next month because it truly felt miserable going through those areas 3 times in an row. Eleum Loyce is terrible to go through after getting rid of the storm because every place now is an gankfest with no purpose aside of making exploring feel horrible which in Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, Bloodborne rewarded you, here (and all of DS2 areas) punish you with more ganks and invasions, at least the Ivory King is an good boss, but needing to explore the entire place just to fight him is annoying. Frigid Outskirts is [-h-------------e----------------l----------p-] , Iron Passage the same and both have reskin bosses and one is an gank, so i am not denying that and Iron Passage has mages making you fatroll, nothing more needs to be said. Shulva Sanctum City has very annoying enemies with their shields and spears with cheap placements to kill you easily, but at least theres not that many that i can tile my roof with them like i would Alonne knights and ice spear golems, and it dosen't look that great, Both bosses aside the ganksquad are fine, but can be extremely annoying either by the weapon you have, or RNG with how many times the dragon jumps, or if she immediately summons Veldstadt . Cave of the Dead is Black Gulch 2.0, At least Black Gulch did not have enemies to attack you while being stunned by being poisoned and the boss is easy and has an bonfire infront of it , here it's an oneshot and the enemies are extremely annoying and you can be hit alot in the fogwall, and the boss is THE ganksquad, so thats terrible too. Brume Tower aside of the Brides of Ash and the dumb invasions, it's actually the best of the bunch because the enemies are managable if you want to fight them, and if you dont want you can go past them in several parts, although doors u do need to kill them unless you want it to be Iron Keep 2.0, the game does provide several ways to fight them compared to other places, Both bosses Fume Knight and Alonne the sole reason why i play the entire game in the first place, although having to do the entire game to reach both of them is extremely tiresome. So i would say you are correct in most stuff aside of Brume tower which that one felt the most fair to me (Iron passage kms kms kms kms), but everything else if it burns i wouldn't care the least
@@found6393 nah man, its the haunting music of majula, and the beautiful story of vendric and his brother, dark souls 2 is awful when inspected close up, but looking through the whole game makes it sweet. Least thats the way I see it
For me DS2 was this weird fever dream that felt like a heavily modded fan made sequel to dark souls 1. And at the time i played it. Ngl i loved it. The world felt so huge and i feel like i could have never explored everything. Probably because i was too busy running through parts that had 30 enemies.
Good way to describe it, it's cheaper feeling and more 'arcadey', not anything close to being the nightmarish work of art like DS1 however it's pretty good, mindless, addictive fun, assuming boss battles aren't your main thing and that you make sure to avoid HF Valley.
Getting mad at someone for using summons is such a weird thing. Especially in dark souls 1 or 3. How is anyone supposed to get sunlight medals and the covenant rewards. Rewards aside, what about the feeling of participating in Jolly Cooperation?
Every covenant has an enemy that drops the required items. (It's an offline fail safe basically) Doing the white masks questline in elden ring was technically one they had to add in but you could also do all the manor invasions and that would count.
Because people have fragile egos, and can't stand other people easily beating a boss they had to die over and over again, because they were too proud to use companions.
ive been playing ds2 nonstop for the past like 4 months now. Ive helped like 8 new people through the game all the way and have been doing a ton of pvp. I always really enjoyed it for some reason, although i have more hours in all the other souls game.
if u are a ds2 pvp enjoyer just give it a bit more time, u can rlly ez get an insane amount of playtime in this game because of his pvp, check the mod Blueacolyte if u on pc and u don't know what is it, have fun!.
Its a very fun game still the issue people have with it is that its slightly different. Atleast for me going from ds1 to ds2 the first 2-4 hours were actual garbage hated the game then you kinda figure out how it plays and you good. Granted there are some awful parts in that game like the runbacks to certain bosses (chariot fool mainly what im thinking of)
To be fair, the Asylum Demon is literally 3 of the bosses in DS1. FromSoft likes to reuse shit. The Taurus Demon is later a normal mob as you try to get to Bed of Chaos. I only played Elden Ring via Seamless CO-OP and DS1 is now my frist true FromSoft experience, but my impression is that reskins is kinda their thing in general. It is not a DS2 issue at all, it is a pattern of behavior.
@@bananashapedorange tbf, i feel its kinda warranted in elden ring. a game that big was bound to be padded out with filler, only time i would say it was actually detrimental was when it reused extremely unique bosses like astel.
The issue with Demon of Song most people didn't realize was that it was the Hand hitboxes as well that grabbed you. This happened all the time until I learned to either roll further one way or run backwards.
@@renmcmanus i mean they do use basic pattern recognition, which is why its consistent. I get what you're saying though. I guess it's the most important thing with DS2, rolling having high end lag really makes you not want to roll so you get a bigger punish/actually get a punish.
@@renmcmanus when it first came out, I missed a Shit tone, though. I didn't even fight Demon of Song, and I missed the whole forest with the invisible dudes And Scorpioness chick. it took me Four playthroughs to learn the pursuer chases you more than twice.
I've started 100% the achievements in all the souls games starting from 1 up to elden ring, and honestly? Dark souls II was an experimental game that didn't always land with its mechanics, but it quite literally shaped the souls games we have today from so many aspects. It introduced new weapon mechanics, sweet spots on weapons, unique armor buffs, progressive flask charges, 4 ring slots, the list really goes on.
@somerandommenace well hold up. Paul morphy would get shitstomped by any random fide master today in chess, but he's still ALWAYS in the discussion for chess goat. "Greatest" conversations must always take historical context into account. It's not fair to directly compare works and skills from the past to the present. So, imo, if you just look around and see ALL the influence dragonball has had on manga and anime, and say it's "far from the best", you're flat out wrong. It will always be in the conversation for greatest manga/anime of all time because of those foundations it laid for the future. And besides that, it's still a great series. The anime suffers in pacing from time to time, but the series has great humor, action, and inspirational messaging. It's really not as bad as a lot of dragonball haters make it out to be, though I will grant that most modern popular shonen have VASTLY refined writing compared to toriyama's
One of the greatest skills I developed was liking a piece of media while being able to acknowledge it's flaws or the fact that isn't as good as I believe. This isn't just directed to DS2 fans.
The pursuer stuff was great… i thought that was really magic as a concept… a game about hard bosses and in this game there was a boss who’s whole kinda thing was chasing you across the frigen game which was just killer. Wish they did that in dark souls 3 and elden ring.
The closest was Margit popping out of a random peasant in the overworld near the capital I think. Like not a spirit version of him or some rename version, just the guy you fought back in Limgrave calling your ass out in the field to run it back. I don't think a lot of people know about the encounter because you can easily miss it.
Night's Cavalry in ER was supposed to do something like that. Instead of spawning at the same set places at night, they would appear in more locations at random.
The biggest truthbomb this game drops is in the opening cinematic "But one day, you will stand before its decrepit gate. Without really knowing why..." Thats how i felt entering every single zone. Why am i here? How did i get here? What am i doing? Who am i?
@@Gyohdon Just like Demon's souls and Dark Souls there is a crestfallen warrior in Majula. He and the Emerald herald always tell you what to do next. As far along in DS2 as when you meet Frampt in DS1, you encounter Nashandra and she also tells you a lot (it is mostly lies, but you can easily claim that Frampt lies too). But, just as in Dark Souls 1 the exact motivation is very vague. To "ring two bells" is exactly as vague as "Kill the king" and "Find four great souls". The reason why becomes clear much later in both games.

@@Shawn_Raz_87 personally, I only use melee and no summons, but I do t judge people for using what the game gives you. I might judge people for cheesing tho
@Shawn Rasmussen That comes from it being easy mode for DS1 in their eyes lol. An improvement to what was already cheating the system doesn't appeal to them.
I think it was good,i beaten dark souls 2 in ng+ and its worth it because they let you create weapons from the lord souls from ds1,new boss placement. Also theres a way to make it easier agains new enemy placements. High endurance and duel wielding +10 infused longswords. I use no summons while i did that.
It doesn't deserve the hate for sure, I remember how much fun I had with it when it launched. Original lightning spears were amazing, and Dark Souls 2 spawned the greatest dark souls animation on UA-cam
Damn I miss DS2, the PVP really was a you had to be there kinda deal. When it was popping it just felt so good. But in general I also just loved the more king's fieldy vibe it had.
i loved my special invader Glow from the Arena, and the Duels i had with my 2 rings from No Death No Bonfire runs which made my weapons invisible was super fun, although not as competitive as you might hope haha. I even had a nemesis in the Arena, dude was like Level 500 while i was sitting at 120. Think i only beat him once or twice but he always made it fun by playing the Boss
6:00 I HATED fighting Belfry Gargoyles but loved learning as I slammed my head on the wall. I finally learned how each one spawned after like 6 or 7 attempts and it was a game of chasing down one guy at a time until they were all dead. It took me at least 15 attempts to beat the Gargoyles but damn was it satisfying to collect my souls that I dropped from the first attempt.
You've got to be trolling... he is one of the most boring, weak, pathetic bosses and he is one of the major/giant soul 4 bosses, which is even worse... Not to mention that the black gultch is a rushed mess...
A lot of things he says about ds 2 can be said about all the other souls games as well. Like the thing about the knights attacks. There are pontiff knights in ds3 that have attacks that hit faster than a speeding bullet. Reusing bosses, the shinobi enemies in sekiro there's 4 of them plus regular mobs of them. The only difference between the 4 is uses poison, another has wolves and the last one has a regular shinobi aiding him.
The world design is weird because the Devs originally wanted to do an Elden Ring style open world, but the idea was scrapped, and they just had to put the map together somehow.
The combat may not be its strong suit with the hitboxes and the mob density, but what i like about the game a lot is the story and the atmosphere, especially in Majula. The world feels like it's closer to an age of dark than the other 2 games, and you can see it everywhere. where there were literal towns in ds1 and 3, there are only ruins left in 2, and all people you encounter are visibly going hollow. The blacksmith lenigrast is a green hollow because he couldn't follow his purpose as a blacksmith and despaired, and all others have already forgotten how or why they came to drangleic. some like maughlin the armorer and Lucatiel lose themselves as their quests progress. The king is a soulless husk. The fire keepers are retired cause even they lost hope and the emerald herald took over to guide the player instead, for selfish reasons. Drangleic castle only has a handful of knights remaining, with all other inhabitants being either dead or lifeless golems. Since Nashandra took over, the entire castle is wrapped in perpetual dark, fitting for a child of Manus. There are a lot more spells, even including an entirely new subclass of dark spells called hexes with their own scaling, since people like Felkin the outcast and darkdiver Grandahl who have a deeper connection to the dark have appeared. The power of the old lords has dwindled to a point where the bosses carrying them barely show them. The Lost sinner has an izalith parasite controlling her, the rotten is nito if he had flesh, just without any necromancy, seaths soul is with a giant mutant spider next to a petrified ancient dragon, and gwyns soul is with a king that burned in the lava of a volcano instead of the first flame. In ds1 and 3 i never link the fire except for achievements because it is against the natural flow of the world and because i hate gwyn with a burning passion for what he did to humanity, so having scholar of the first sin give you a new ending that has you break out of the cycle and free yourself from the curse of hollowing is a huge plus in my book. The bosses might not be particularly challenging, but neither were those in demon's souls. the two games have a lot of design similarities, like the difficulty focusing on areas rather than bosses, the movesets of weapons and parries or the hollowing being a less extreme soul form. what i especially like about ds2's weaponry is that you can buff weapons that have elements on them with spells regardless of the infusion, and that leveling weapons is comparatively cheap since it costs only a few titanite shards.
Mob density? Really? Let's look at ds1 you just landed in firelink, you go to the graveyard...suddenly alot of skeletons stand up. Okay let's go the other way oh wait 6 Dudes 1 is out of reach throwing bombs at you while fighting the rest. Like Bro... Really? Hit boxes were stupid because they didn't know how or didn't had enough time to balance them around the ADP mechanic.
I was nostalgic for DS2. Then I replayed it last year and there was shit I forgot about like the loogie cave leading to the rotten, or the shrine of amana, or the friggen ancient dragon, or just iron keep and it’s entire army of skeleton knights. I like some of the settings and music, and the first time I saw Drangleic castle it was pretty amazing…. Until I actually got inside and had to fight like 5 ruin sentinels.
@@lucasvallet4487 shrine and iron keep are fine? you are a masochist for saying that. Getting diked by all 4 sides is fun lmao. If you are talking about vanilla than it is true.
I get that Ds2 definitely has some major cons, but I feel that Dark Souls 1 set a standard in people’s minds of “what dark souls is” and Ds2 threw a curveball and changed a lot, and I feel that people took that harshly, and just shamelessly hated on the game for 2 majors reasons. 1. They never/barely played it and they’re mad they suck or are jumping on the bandwagon. Or 2. They played Ds2 with a standard in their minds, and when Ds2 didn’t meet those requirements in the way Ds1 did, they got pissy.
U are not wrong, but also when ppl talk sg1t about ds2 they seems to forget how bad Ds1 was for some aspects, movesets 4way roll directions not even be able to teleport (the interconnection thing is an AMAZING thing for a first Experience, but then???) Ds1 have some incredibly bad hitboxes but is only a problem when there is ds2 in the title. In ds2 u have multiple way and u can teleport any time, quality of life.
If the Ds1 standards are: Actual turnspeed Not tying s to a stat actual level design Non artificial difficulty (i.e shit enemy placement) Mindnumbingly easy gameplay the lock on not being a detriment to your gameplay hitboxes that don't suck you into the attack Then yeah, people aren't gonna like Ds2.
@@entropy7705 oh so is a problem of hitbox the teleport thing, not that ds2 gives prio to the end of Your roll instead. There's a bare minimum standard you have to make if you are a game company with successful titles. That standard is: don't regress in quality. There are many, many basic things which DS2 fails at in many different (and many major) areas, which aren't just caused by expecting it to be like DS1. They're caused by it just not being a better game, which is a completely normal expectation. It's really that simple. And don't get me wrong, there's good of course, but the fact is most of the defenses of DS2 hinge on ignoring or deflecting all of its objectively bad decisions, which is equally as disingenuous as people hopping on the bandwagon.
My favorite part about the discourse around this game is that when the game was released in 2014 *almost no one complained about it.* I played DeS and DS1 right before DS2 came out, played it on launch and put 1200 hours in it, and it was universally loved. It made game of the year by GameInformer, extremely high review scores all across the board, everybody was loving it and talking about it, and it had an extremely small amount of the player base actually complaining about it. It was to the point where content creators complaining about the game were lambasted for just hating what was new and fresh, and basically every DS1 content creator other than the few dickheads switched over to DS2 content. Tons of PVP, build videos, walkthroughs, and so on. It took literally about a year for anybody to go back to Dark Souls 1 content, and that was after all three DLCs had released. In comparison, when DS3 came out nearly every content creator lambasted the game for its poor balance mixed with the same terrible net code that killed BB PvP and a severe lack of content (it didn't have an arena until the first DLC). Almost all OG Souls creators, and most smaller ones, ditched the game within the first month. Oroboro, Peeve, Yukasleigon, everyone just left. It took until after the DLC's for anyone to come back, and It was still very little content. The people who cropped up after the 1st dlc bought an arena slowly made a name for themselves as the balance patches and second DLC came out. LostMySanity, FighterPL, Revan318, Prod, G9, and Steelovsky all made a name for themselves *after* the absolute shitfest that was DS3's first year of a release. If it wasn't for those balance patches and the addition of the arena, there's a good chance that from a community standpoint the franchise would have just died. Nobody gave a shit because the game was rushed as hell, entire mechanics were just missing or broken, and balance wasn't even something they considered. The "DS2 is bad" complaints didn't even start until around the last 5 years when DS1 got it's remake. The problem is that DS2 punishes bad play more so than any game FROM has made other than Sekiro, and is notoriously hard to just run through. You actually have to try, and around the time the game came out that's what everybody wanted from the next FROM game. Like seriously, go look for videos pre-2018 criticizing DS2 for the things that you hear people complain about now like enemy density and "it's clunky and slow". You simply aren't going to find them because DS1&DeS were both just as slow if not slower with certain play styles and were actually more clunky the majority of the time. The things people are actually going to complain about in criticisms from back then are adaptability and soul memory, which are definitely massive issues and if they remake the game I think they should just remove the adaptability stat altogether.
Can't stop laughing at "played it on lunch" lmaoooooo But yes, I agree with literally everything you said. (although i gotta say i enjoyed soul memories)
@@Mythowarsadaptability was a terrible choice, yes. But so was DS1 making R2 attacks do less damage, take longer, leave you vulnerable for longer, and take more stamina than 2R1s. Or the fact that two entire weapon classes have a stagger animation if you miss the attack. Point being, they all make mistakes.

There are some really good armor and weapon designs in DS2 that I'm glad *some* made a return in DS3. The Alonne Knight sets were a nice addition, though I always thought the design could be a little better. Specifically the helmets or the shoulders. There's something off about them. They look mildly awkward somehow.
What about the art direction, massive size of the world, the great hub area, the fantastic lore where every NPC is losing their memory due to time being so convoluted, the fashion, the power stance- DS2 rules

Most of the things you mentioned are bad, and points against DS2. The world feels smaller than demons souls's (shout out to the final area that you can't access because of... a pillar that is one foot high, and that it magically disappears), the art direction is laughably bad (they outsourced most of the assets to third world countries, look it up), none of the npc quest made sense or fleshed out the world, lore, or the game philosophy (because the game at large doesn't have one, unlike DS1, bloodborne, sekiro, or elden ring). I'll give you that a lot of sets do look cool, and power stancing was a nice idea that they expanded wonderfully on elden ring. Majula is pretty neat too, though I personally prefer the nexus. The biggest downsides of the game for me, other than the terrible, terrible level and boss design, is the music and the animations, they look like PS1 level bad.

I think Dark Souls 2 has the best atmosphere out of the first three. It’s so thick you can feel, very surreal and depressing environments, strange monsters and npc. The whole DS2 experience feels like the character is in a strange purgatory, where nothing matters to everyone
I have put more hours into D2, specially after the DLCs, then both others combined, not ashamed to admit it. Loved the story. Combat. It MADE fashion souls. Healthiest PVP imo. Only one i could never finish was Sekiro. I HATED the boss fights. Rest of the game was amazing. *Runs for cover!*

Here is the thing, before Elden Ring this is what I thought about DS series, I thought DS1 had the best world/lore, DS2 more fun PVP and cosplay/fun builds, DS3 I thought had the best PVE. Elden Ring kinda combined all 3 for me.
Elden Ring PVE is just too easy. There is no tension with the threat of invasion removed and the numerous bonfires placed every where. A big dull treasure hunt.

I agree on the most criticisms on this game but the take on ds2 fighting multiple mobs at once is the part where I somewhat disagree. This feature is intentional not to make the game hard but to change the repeated playstyle used in the previous game (basically circle strafing and lock-on habbit). This game focuses on how you will do crowd control while not relying on lock-on.
You should keep 2 things in mind: 1) People like challenging 1v1s more than unfair hordes of enemies. 2) Not every weapon or playstyle is equipped for crowd control, so your argument makes several weapons and spells useless
@elijahfyffe5176 That can mess up your equipment load and I'd say it's mainly used because durability sucks in the game so you need to switch weapon (especially later in the DLCs)
DS2 had three major flaws: 1: Estus chugging speed and rolling s are tied to the adaptability stat, in order to make it worth putting points in there they had to make the base values for those slower/fewer than previous titles, thus it feels awful to play at low levels and OP at high levels. 2: Lot of places to go but not much in them. 3: The teaser videos showed what looked like HDR lighting (see the knight with torch teasers), the released version had this taken out, so everything looked washed out, almost full bright and it showed off all the ugly textures.
DS2 was my most played From Software game until Elden Ring came out and I absolutely love it and at the time I didn't knew about how important ADP was. I did a new playthrough this year with that in mind and it was a whole new experience for me. I love the armors too, to many to choose and combine.

one of the things that actually made me mad in ds2 is that doing animations for pulling switches or going thru a fog you cans till get hit by mobs and die
It’s goes both ways. I like it and can have fun playing it and then I can absolutely hate it and get mad because of the absurd mechanics and enemies that you can’t just run past. You have to kill each and every one or else your dying in front of that dog gate. It’s a love/hate game
Honestly as someone who’s played it to death there’s like two areas where you are forced to engage with anything and that’s huntsman’s copse because narrow platforms make it easy to get sandwiched and iron keep cause the enemies are close to your speed Otherwise you can probably pull enemies away from the fog gate before going in At least ds2 doesn’t have enemies able to cheap shot you through the fog gate Cough ELDEN RING Cough Fucking Niall and malikeths gates I always forget to walk forward and the. Get interrupted mid-summon like my rats are offensive or something xD The rats are great Live just long enough to let me do whatever I need breathing room for and it’s always a fun game of seeing whether theyll spawn right next to the boss or off in the next zip code The cockroach(kindred of rot) and the crystalian are also summons I like, cause they’re both about as annoying to the boss as the actual enemies are to you
I wanted to try dark magic build in DS3 then found out that it is only 5 dark spells in the game. Meanwhile DS2 has !23! different hexes. Its strange...
@@schmietwechdeschiet4340 yes, but that’s where you kind of miss the point of what I said. Hexer is a level sink cause of how thin its stats tend to be spread. Hexer requires int and faith, but still needs attunement like all the other casters. A cleric or sorcerer could comfortably invest in vigor if they were spreading across 3 stats like a hexer The stats for a hexer are just spread a little more thinly so reaching the same levels as an int or fth user in casting stats requires you to sink more levels into it. And there’s no getting out of not leveling one of them cause hexes scale off what’s lower between int and faith
Ik it's been 9 months, but your comment about you liking ds2 and it being your favorite. Is it your first? People usually prefer their first. Lots of people started with ds2. I started with Sekiro, and it's my favorite. Though most of the people who beat it say it has the best combat.
Most weapon variation, ring combos, atmosphere in certain areas, leveling that changes certain speeds of drinking, there is a lot of stuff to love in ds2
14:51 a legit catch with clunky animation because ds2 prioritizes YOUR roll to finish its animation, but yes ez to say "bad hitbox" but thanks for the slowing the video dude so you can clearly see he finished his roll animation = vulnerable 🤣 and you mistake a teleport animation (same problem as sekiro hello) for a bad hitbox, do you even know WHAT A HITBOX IS?
Dark Souls 2 seriously was a mixed bag for me, I loved some of these fights so much, skeleton mob and chariot were some of my favorite, I absolutely hated the Throne watcher and defender fight, which sucks because I wanted to like it Having now finished Dark Souls 2's achievements and moved on to Elden Ring, I will say my least favorite part was grinding the Bell Keeper covenant and Sunlight Medals
Woooah that's wild. Dark Souls 2 was the only souls game where I enjoyed PvP so I thought the bell covenant was a blast. Neat how so many people have different views of these games.
For the people who REALLY enjoyed dark souls 1.. seeing the old dragonslayer blew my mind. I'm also a little biased as my friend ordered this from amazon, got it a full 24 hours before the actual release date and me and him were running around finding as many secrets as possible on that first night, you couldn't even connect to the servers at the time.
@bong I've beat him a lot of times, forced him to commit seppuku and still I don't understand what people complain about when it comes to his hitboxes. Maybe I just never noticed them. Some other enemies/bosses in the game though, yikes.
@@Kaiser4Srbija Generally, wack hitboxes get complained about because souls bosses have expanded hitboxes compared to what they look like. A great example is dancer from DS3 having extremely long lingering boxes on her grab, making it so that you practically have to it. These issues never show up if you play an -oriented style of course, but if you're looking to positionally dodge, it might get frustrating.
The game was fine. Certain players got mad it tried to be different. God forbid a sequel innovates and changes a formula. It's hilarious because asmon is an elden head. Elden Ring in many ways is just a sequel to DS2.
I prefer DS2 over DS1, the issue I have with DS1 is that every environment except Undead Burg, Undead Parish and Anor Londo is just a chore to do. DS2 on the other hand has more good areas than bad, its just a more "epic" game with great settings, exploration and better build variety. The only issue I have with DS2 is that 95% of the bosses are way too easy. Elden Ring > Sekiro > DS3 > DS2 > DS1 > Demon Souls > Bloodborne (30 fps is unplayable).

ds2 had issues but it felt weirdly nostalgic, even if you haven't played it before. just feels like a fever dream. the "too difficult issues" weren't the problem. once you know the damage mechanic its all get good at dodging and then attacking. its the too easy ones that make the game dreadful, especially when the mobs before it are way harder to deal with.

Getting mad at someone for using summons is such a weird thing. Especially in dark souls 1 or 3. How is anyone supposed to get sunlight medals and the covenant rewards. Rewards aside, what about the feeling of participating in Jolly Cooperation?

the thing that always felt the most fun to me in ds2 was the ranged gameplay, the game gives you the most freedom as a caster than any other souls game, with items like the old iron king crown, playing as a high level hybrid hexer was the most fun i ever had as a ranged combat focused character, the game might be jank and objectively bad compared to all other recent fromsoft titles, and it also becomes clear why if you look at the development history, but i'll always still consider it a good game, and one that definitely has a special place in my heart

Asmon is indeed.. bad, funny guy but he would've been just as bad as the kid in the video if he didn't play the series in reverse order.
So what’s your theory then, that Asmon is lying about how little fun he had with the game, or that he’s just not explaining his reasoning very well?

Hit boxes were stupid because they didn't know how or didn't had enough time to balance them around the ADP mechanic.
@@schmietwechdeschiet4340 Some hitboxes were fucked in vanilla, but they improved them a lot in SOTFS

If the Ds1 standards are:
Actual turnspeed
Not tying s to a stat
actual level design
Non artificial difficulty (i.e shit enemy placement)
Mindnumbingly easy gameplay
the lock on not being a detriment to your gameplay
hitboxes that don't suck you into the attack

@@entropy7705 I don’t think souls game had “mind numbingly easy gameplay”
We are talking about dark souls, correct?
There's a bare minimum standard you have to make if you are a game company with successful titles. That standard is: don't regress in quality. There are many, many basic things which DS2 fails at in many different (and many major) areas, which aren't just caused by expecting it to be like DS1. They're caused by it just not being a better game, which is a completely normal expectation. It's really that simple. And don't get me wrong, there's good of course, but the fact is most of the defenses of DS2 hinge on ignoring or deflecting all of its objectively bad decisions, which is equally as disingenuous as people hopping on the bandwagon.
I love DS2 bc everytime I come back I end up in a place I forgot even existed. That game is so damn big.
Can't stop laughing at "played it on lunch" lmaoooooo

The Alonne Knight sets were a nice addition, though I always thought the design could be a little better. Specifically the helmets or the shoulders. There's something off about them. They look mildly awkward somehow.

@@lev1athan763Ds2 added more slots to the equipment to allow you to switch weapons to have a crowd option if needed.
@elijahfyffe5176 That can mess up your equipment load and I'd say it's mainly used because durability sucks in the game so you need to switch weapon (especially later in the DLCs)
@@lev1athan763 The later games kept this feature, even with ER’s lack of durability system

DS2 had three major flaws:
1: Estus chugging speed and rolling s are tied to the adaptability stat, in order to make it worth putting points in there they had to make the base values for those slower/fewer than previous titles, thus it feels awful to play at low levels and OP at high levels.
2: Lot of places to go but not much in them.
3: The teaser videos showed what looked like HDR lighting (see the knight with torch teasers), the released version had this taken out, so everything looked washed out, almost full bright and it showed off all the ugly textures.

The cockroach(kindred of rot) and the crystalian are also summons I like, cause they’re both about as annoying to the boss as the actual enemies are to you
I wanted to try dark magic build in DS3 then found out that it is only 5 dark spells in the game. Meanwhile DS2 has !23! different hexes. Its strange...
Ds2 has great hexes but hexing is definitely a level sink
Is powerful though, resonant hexes fucking nuke everything
@@MamaTrixxieAsmr it's an RPG...you have to level up...
@@schmietwechdeschiet4340 yes, but that’s where you kind of miss the point of what I said.
Hexer is a level sink cause of how thin its stats tend to be spread.
Hexer requires int and faith, but still needs attunement like all the other casters. A cleric or sorcerer could comfortably invest in vigor if they were spreading across 3 stats like a hexer
The stats for a hexer are just spread a little more thinly so reaching the same levels as an int or fth user in casting stats requires you to sink more levels into it.
And there’s no getting out of not leveling one of them cause hexes scale off what’s lower between int and faith
Hate on me but DS2 is my favorite in the trilogy, it's the one I played the most and the one I always go back to play...
Ik it's been 9 months, but your comment about you liking ds2 and it being your favorite.
Is it your first? People usually prefer their first.
Lots of people started with ds2.
I started with Sekiro, and it's my favorite. Though most of the people who beat it say it has the best combat.
Most weapon variation, ring combos, atmosphere in certain areas, leveling that changes certain speeds of drinking, there is a lot of stuff to love in ds2
the exploding barrels in every single room are pretty consistent
14:51 a legit catch with clunky animation because ds2 prioritizes YOUR roll to finish its animation, but yes ez to say "bad hitbox"
but thanks for the slowing the video dude so you can clearly see he finished his roll animation = vulnerable 🤣
and you mistake a teleport animation (same problem as sekiro hello) for a bad hitbox, do you even know WHAT A HITBOX IS?
its so funny when he keeps talking shit about the hitbox while the slowmo literally proves him wrong
DS 2 has a fantastic soundtrack and atmosphere tho. Loved the Majula theme
I love this game even more now
Now I hope that Asmon will watch Maulers 9 hour response to Hbomberguy on dark souls 2
No, that is such a boring video.
Dark Souls 2 seriously was a mixed bag for me, I loved some of these fights so much, skeleton mob and chariot were some of my favorite, I absolutely hated the Throne watcher and defender fight, which sucks because I wanted to like it
Having now finished Dark Souls 2's achievements and moved on to Elden Ring, I will say my least favorite part was grinding the Bell Keeper covenant and Sunlight Medals
Woooah that's wild. Dark Souls 2 was the only souls game where I enjoyed PvP so I thought the bell covenant was a blast. Neat how so many people have different views of these games.
@@Maelthorn1337 To be fair, the small bit of PvP I did was enjoyable enough, but most of that "offline" grinding
i actually love dark souls 2, can't say and won't even try to argue that it's the best, but i love it to bits, it's my favorite one.
I just love it for sir alonne. one of the most respectable bosses in the game.
Fuck sir alonne
@@XicorVTadaptability is a garbage Game mechanic. Most players don’t even know what it does unless you look it up on the wiki.
Dark souls 2 was the first one I played and I loved it. May not have been the best for veteran players at the time but as a new person it was amazing.
demon's souls ps3 was my first one back in the days, and ds2 > all.
The game was fine. Certain players got mad it tried to be different.
God forbid a sequel innovates and changes a formula. It's hilarious because asmon is an elden head. Elden Ring in many ways is just a sequel to DS2.
Yes, but no. It's just large dung pie
Really out here pretending the latter part of DS 1 wasn't a disaster.
In my opinion dark souls 2 has the best pvp, also bring back dark souls 2 back stepping
That place with the dragons was cool. The guys on the steps bowing to you lol
