Fun fact: Gregor McGregor is considered sort of a national hero here in Venezuela, as he fought with distinction during our Independence War. After said meritorious service however, he tried to take over Florida and made two attempts to invade New Granada; all three ventures ended in disaster and with him abandoning his troops to their fate. This netted McGregor a death sentence from independence hero Simón Bolívar himself, and was only able to return to Venezuela after Bolívar's death (where apparently no one had heard of the Poyais thing, as his military rank was restored and he was buried with full honors).

Portuguese language was born from the Gallaico-Portuguese, the lingua franca of music and poetry in the medieval times. It's a beautiful language. Barbs aways say that is strange because we have that soft R in the Brazilian proununciation, which is probably a reminiscent of native american accent that hasn't the R and L phonemes. So Rio and Recife have a soft gutural R, and Brazil is prounounced Braziw

You actually managed to say "Recife" very good. The history of "Quimlobo de Palmares" is very famous in Brazil. And its leader, the "Zumbi de Palmares", considered a hero by many.

I would like to give an ideia. Many of the videos of countries explained here are from 5-6 years ago maybe it would be nice to create a new type of video something like "What happened in *country name* in the last five years" it's a way of keeping up with all that has changed in these last years like civil wars, social movements, political and economical changes. Anyways love the content and I hope the channel can grow even more in the future :)

You should use one of these extinct countries for your next April Fools Day: pretend it still exists to this day and discuss what it would be like. The fact that it once did exist would make it pretty believable.

I've been to Palmares! There's a city there now, called União dos Palmares, with a statue of Zumbi downtown. Fwiw, I would've at least mentioned Zumbi. They did lose the war against the Portuguese, but he's a major hero in Brazilian history and the anniversary of his death is a holiday in a lot of the country. I also would've made a Fire Festival joke for the last one. But, these are quibbles. Great video 😊
