I loved the contrast between the painting experience for both armies. I painted my entire 3k of Necrons in less time than it took me to paint one 30man squad of orks, they are so time consuming. You have to love da boyz to finish a full army.
the base choice on those Necron's really makes the paint job pop, and who said greenskins gotta have green skin they are mushrooms last time i check those things come in all kinds of wild colors.
One of the best things I’ve seen for painting Orks and getting variations was using watered down paints, washes, or contrast paints of varying greens/yellows over white primer. They actually looked really good I will admit. Made me want to start an Ork army.
I've been collecting my waaaargh for nearly 30yrs and, Nick, I feel your pain. A week of painting for 150pts on the table was always a killer and made for a slow growing army but now I need a small bucket to roll my 120+ attack dice. Plus I love the look on marine players faces when their 40 models line up against my 200. I have trukks kanz flyers etc but the green tide is where the Boyz excel. Keep painting and stay safe to everyone.
Great work! I love how you documented your journey. It's taken me three years to paint my Tyranid army, but I started this past December and I'm pushing through, trying to touch the hobby at least an hour a day. I find myself making time to do something. Paint the skin, paint the carapace, work on bases, anything that I can do in an hour pushes me closer to completion. But this....7 days straight? That's Herculean!
Nice work! Would be fun to see a one week painting challenge where at the end of the week you have to play a game but only using the painted models. It could involve much more strategy when it comes to the planning, and I would love to see you two playing ^^
40ktion sounds a little bit odd, almost Slaaneshi... Probably the way it rolls off the tongue. Ok bad jokes aside, hats off to you guys. This kind of challenge would take all the fun of painting away from me, so I'll use this as a cautionary tale not to build up too many gray models XD
Goodness nothing felt more relatable then being in high school getting a codex and not letting go of it. I almost lost the exact same codex cause I was looking through it after a test.
Well done you two. As for other viewers (and Nick) who might strugle with their army because of the tons of infantry (yes I do suffer the same for my old army), I have a trick how to speed up such massive painting challenges: Split your armies into units and then take up a mix of units, instead of a big bunch of one unit. In the example of Nicks ork army I would say he takes 10 boys, 1 Bot/Can, 1 Vehicle. Start with them with priming and giving them their overall basecoat (blue for the boys), and then go step by step. If you have a mixed group, even thought you dont have to paint the same on the units, you are faster and get more satisfaction from it, since you get faster results. AND you dont get intimidated by the sheer number of left to paint models. Nick I can feel with you, because I made the same mistake in my past. Doing this "production line" painting is just in theory working. It burns you out fast, and that slows your progress. And since your progress slows down, so does your motivation. Until you hit the bottom line of "nope! I paint something different!"
I actually really like the blue orks!! Reminds me of the Nightkin from fallout new vegas. Gives me the idea for a stealth themed faction, could even use a similar reason for the blue skin!
I have 80 something models to paint an indomitus box, vanguard space marines and my captain master kayvaan shrike I’m not a good painter as you and I’m very slow but I do have about 2 weeks so I think I can but who knows.
The new Orange on the blue Necrons looks good. I also like the original blue. With a bump in the contrast, or maybe a slight color shift; that blue would have been an excellent base-coat. I personally like the Necrons in the colder spectrum just to give off that "Cold Machine" vibe; but that Orange looks fantastic with the new bases. They pop out very well. Excellent painting! Poor Nick... The man was growing a beard painting those orks. That's a lot of just basing... Hats off to that gentleman and scholar.
Damn! I just started collecting again, and its taken me 4 hours to do the basic colors of a blood angel intercessor. Still need the shading and highlighting but im having fun. You guys are crazy!
Ha ha you went to detention. I stopped going around grade 7. He said he would just keep doubling them. I told him to just keep counting haha. I love your video's thanks so much man.
I remember when you first posted the necron basing tutorials. I saw your posts on reddit and checked out the videos when you had like 100 subs. Those videos were terrible (and that funny theme music lol) compared to your recent stuff, glad the channel has grown so much!
Nick in this reminds me of the scene in Ed, Edd & Eddy where Ed steals Edd's camera and yells "EXTREME CLOSE UP! Look up my nose and see your future.."
Great stuff after this 7 days go for another 7 days for the rest of your armies, after this go for a batrep necrons vs orks for me the winner is Nick, he using more his brush :p give u a like + abo this challange was really cool
The real winner was the audience! Great job! We might need a tutorial for both schemes done on HQs of each army! I do have to complain as a die-hard fan of Bluecrons, you treated my bois dirty :P
Well, you got me into making a Necron army after my SM army is done. I hope you’re happy. Albeit, Nids are tied with Necrons for 2nd army, but your Necron design is crazy good
Follow up video, what’s the status now? Fun video, I once took my Crimson fists with me to a month long school. I worked on them every night and finished them. Made me feel good!
I keep thinking about the blue orks. What if actually, the ork boss is colorblind, and thinks blue is green? And with all the waaagh energy the orks on that planet became blue-skinned as a result
i know this video is year plus old..but one thing a group I was in used to do was give each other monthly painting challenges.. February - love bug (could be a VW bug or an actual bug), April FOOLS day, October was All Hallows Eve, it was either August or Sept (where we did a play on the D&D 4 major classes, December was winter themed .. we had a lot of fun with it!
blue orks work fine. There was someone who did some AOS Orks in an aqua/blue skin theme and it was amazing. Also, do you all have a "project" time limit where you start to lose interest and it becomes more chore than fun. For me it is about 4 weeks. If a project sits on my desk, even if I am not painting because of other daily issues, the clock still ticks. When I sit down in week 5, even if I have not touched them, the magic is gone and I have to force myself through the process.
I would actually love to paint something and maybe even share the before and after pics. HOWEVER all of my spray primers stopped working. I think it's because they were old. But I'm already planning on buying some stuff online so new primers are definitely on the list.
Simply go a squad of boys at a time, enjoy what you can... Even if its just doing one step among all of them... Like adding shadows to the ork skin, or highlights, or just adding the color to the guns. Any kind of progress is good progress
Tau, Orks and Necrons are my first and hopefully only 3 armies i am working on. Tau was first and i have the most of that, Orks is second and i have a patrol box and Ghazghkull Thraka, whos is my favorite model in all of 40K. And i haven;t started buying Necrons yet but i have a plan to get the patrol box and maybe 1 other thing that i like from my LGS.
I'm also starting a Necron army. Any tips? My friend bought me the Necron Codex when he learned I was going for a 'Cron army I'm also kinda designing my own look for a Japanese inspired Necrons
I think Nick's biggest mistake was not just taking two vehicles and 30 units and calling that his week. Technically, basing everything all at once is gonna be more efficient, but damn - that must've been such a shitty time.
My first army was necrons i had a nice lil army. Sold em got space marines hated em started a chaos army and ive never looked back. I think its at over 3000 points but i really have no clue
Jay: I'm having THE best time.
Nick: End my suffering.
Was I supposed to read the Jay part in Junkrats voice? Because I did
@@thesamon123 i read nicks in roadhogs voice after i saw this

In defense of Nick, Orks are significantly more complex models than Necrons to paint.
da red unz go fasta
Green is best 'cuz orkz iz green.
Not to mention the necrons were pretty much done anyway, he didn’t need to prime and base coat anything
@@CrudeConduct666 Purple iz best cuz iz da stealfy colah
don't forget they are physically painful to paint :'/
the base choice on those Necron's really makes the paint job pop, and who said greenskins gotta have green skin they are mushrooms last time i check those things come in all kinds of wild colors.
I’ve always kinda wanted to make grayish or yellowish green orks
@@CruzRoman3211 do it

Nick, the trick is to paint the hand that is doing the painting red. Red ones go fasta.
Legend has it, Nick is still base coating till this day.
"The more you paint, the more you learn"....and painting is half the battle! -G.I. Spray probably
Orks are the hardest models to paint in batches since they have sooo many different colored things on them.
Speed paint ork in 10 mins fully done but yeah if want to make them look good there is lot of colours
I've been collecting my waaaargh for nearly 30yrs and, Nick, I feel your pain. For the irks the lore could be that, like frogs, there is a chance that the orks aren’t born with the yellow pigment in there skin making them blue
Well I struggle to get one model done in 10 hours so I think you guys did fine.
You both did really well, it’s puts my 11 models in a week to shame. Well done
puts my 0.5 to a shame
You guys are painting

I really enjoyed this video; would love to see a follow up with completed armies.
that's, not a bad idea!!!
I would also like to see other videos on the advancement of your armies. Wish the best for you.
That battle wagon is ferocious! Love the paint job, looks super detailed and weathered but not in an artificial way at all
40ktion sounds a little bit odd, almost Slaaneshi... Probably the way it rolls off the tongue.
Ok bad jokes aside, hats off to you guys. This kind of challenge would take all the fun of painting away from me, so I'll use this as a cautionary tale not to build up too many gray models XD
Amount of gray models is not worst thing just paint unit a week or whatever you like most paint that no rush just enjoy painting
Goodness nothing felt more relatable then being in high school getting a codex and not letting go of it. I almost lost the exact same codex cause I was looking through it after a test.
These paint challenge videos are my favorite. Great job guys 👍

You absolutely must make a tutorial for the necron scheme start to finish!
Damn! I just started collecting again, and its taken me 4 hours to do the basic colors of a blood angel intercessor. Still need the shading and highlighting but im having fun. You guys are crazy!

Amazing video and you turn your hobby into a production line that was never going to be "fun" great effort well done lads 👍
Your creativeness is just mind blowing.
Loved this video. You guys tortured yourselves on a week long slog. Thanks for the video though I really enjoyed it guys!

ah, but my blue wasn't strong enough! The light blue on white models in my old army just looked bland
I've also played since high school 30 now, gotta say i'm impressed at how many models y'all have painted
The undercoat on those ork vehicles is legit. 10/10
You should both do an Update on this project , would be nice to see another last push video .

I love your channel so much and especially when you guys paint or make bases
You can see how tickled these two nerd boys are with their weekend pun lol excellent
I used to work at blue table painting. Painting everyday for 6 months was insane.... but increased Mt painting skills 10 fold😊
I keep thinking about the blue orks.

Those orcs have no right to be displaying that much cake…
No drilled barrels!!!!!!! WEEEEeeeeeeWOOOooo WEEEEeeeWOOOOooo!!!
Man, I feel for Nick. That's the same feeling I have when I try to work on things for 3+ days
what you said, about the codex. My uncle gave me my first codex, and i use to take that to school every day
I still love the Lizardmen I got in 2010, painting them all is another story.
You guys need to do another week long challenge. I bet this is a lot of work to pull off but it is so much fun to watch. 👍
Your voices are so similar lol. Well done, I love those ridiculous challenges

what airbrush do you use?

Hey just an idea but I think a dark Gary would look great on the necrons especially with that orange

What an amazing journey! I loved it!
I've heard it thrown around a lot, but what does HQ mean for certain models?
Do you guys have any battle report videos? Or even better some actual play videos??
is there a second part ? would love to see the results
Jay definitely had diarrhoea.... I'd actually love to see Nick complete a Killa Khan.

Love the blue orcs
I see you forgot about this project. Would have loved to see a battle report on these two armys.
I might just be able to join in on your end of video challenge thing over on Instagram as I am painting a commissar at the moment
Video from painting flying croissant (doom scythe) in croissant style maybe?
My first army was necrons i had a nice lil army. Sold em got space marines hated em started a chaos army and ive never looked back. I think its at over 3000 points but i really have no clue
I believe blue for Orks is luck so the blue Orks being pirates hunting for riches works well
I must ask how many times you went to detentions 😅
Huuuu! You played necrons at first! My Brother!!!
Impressive considering the time constraints, well done.
Dont know why but love see this 2 guys togheter... and no it is not a gay joke
No smoke without fire
Weekend challenge accepted!
Orks looks cool like Rouge Trooper Judge Dread dudes!
oh lol nick uses the same glass bottle with a dropper for water as i do
Still unsure if Jay and Nick were in the same room at the start or if one was in a green screen.
This is good content
Bro the old ones where about when the necrons where still flesh the oldest sort of living race
Paint Challange? I thought you wanted to play 10.000pts against each other.
I'll call the Orks the "Death Smurfz"
Haha, the way Americans pronounce Nottingham is funny.
From someone who lives in Nottinghamshire.
Have you heard the song Cali40ktion?
Liked and subbed. Have either of you ever tackled a titan?
I do love the titans but it's hard to spend the money to buy an entire army on 1 model. The Thunderhawk gunship is tempting though.
@@EonsOfBattle I get it. I'm new to the hobby and want just one titan
