It's a proven thing, the more restrictions you add to a project/mini/army the more creative you have to be and you often feel a lot more fulfilled as you've worked against resistance, it's the same way how your body feels lifting heavy things
When I first started painting my orky boyz I saw that the Bad Moons were the richest ladz with the most dakka so I chose them, little did I know how challenging painting yellow would be for a new comer to painting. Years have passed and as much as I love my Bad Moons, any new Orkz I have acquired have been painted a random colour scheme to intimate that my Ork warband is comprised of all the clans, uniting in one big Waagh. Also I thought sticking to a strict uniform is not something you would be able to get an Ork to do.
i do something similar since my orks are freebootaz and are heavilly kitbashed. each time i paint one i try to give it a bit of personality by adding some extra bits and painting it slightly different to all my others. Whilst my army is predominantly red as it is a pretty mobile force, i think about what other colours would suit any given model. is this ork particularly superstitious? give him a blue gun. is a nob richer than the boyz? yeah he is, give him a lot of yellow gear. does this boy look a bit tougher? way more black and way less red. its a lot more fun this way and my force looks way more realistic because of it, i never liked when an army of orks all have identical armour colour and skin colour too.
That was my sort of line of thinking too. I also love taking a completely unique direction with a model, gives it far more personality!@@jaywilliams720
I genuinely didn't want to say Nick's Blorc was my favorite.... But it kind of was. The other serious contender was the blood axe orc. You did an incredible job with the camo shirt!
Yay! I love all of them, but the repurposed banner is a killer idea. Consider it looted. Also so glad to see Hardcore Minis getting some love. They are some of the best ork sculpts out there.
My favorite has the be the deff skull Ork! I have a bias as that's my main army, but I also love the idea of looting from Ultramarines out of convenience because it's already blue.
Blood axes are my favourite Ork clan. The first picture i seen of them was in 1989. Ork mek boy fixing a deff dreads leg in the middle of a fire fight. Great job. carry on.
By combining the lore of my homebrew league as an auxiliary for the Raptors not only did their lore become more refined, my painting skill also grew exponentially. Instead of thinking about painting a mini, I imagined in my brain a codex-style image with the space marines and kin working together which then got translated into the painting.
Hardcore Minis are great...their STLs are cool, and have some of the cleanest, best resin production on the physical pieces. Nice to see them as a sponsor, and love what you've done with the models.
I forget which edition but my son fielded an entire Blood Axe clan, but this is when GW had done away with the clans so he used IG rules instead. They were based off of WW2 Germany/Hellboy. He even won one of the last Golden Scrap Deamons with his converted Ork rough riders.
Painting in the style of blood axes really solidified my love of Orks. I get a real feeling of nostalgia for collecting G.I. Joes because design wise there is a lot of overlap, they're both army dudes that look more like comic book characters than like a real army. Also Joe names seem to make for really good Ork names, Sgt. Slaughta, Beach 'ed, Blasta, etc. It was not difficult to build a campaign roster for my Kommandos out of nothing but "Joes."
Thank you for giving the Blood Axe some overdue respect. I don't do much gaming anymore but when i do build Orks, the Blood Axe are my go to greenskins.
I loved your Deathskull, as I've been building my Ultramarines army I've been accumulating a bunch of random Space Marines bits and have had the idea of a small group of Orks with a bunch of loot from Space Marines, weapons, armor scraps, some helmets spiked onto a trukk, etc.
Man you are awesome, these were awesome paints/miniatures. So watering down my is paint is the key? I am new and have painted just a few board game pieces and while they are decent for a beginner, which means I am okay with them, they are by far the quality you paint yours.
100%, even if I don’t like the particular canon lore I’ll try and work within the confines of what’s established to put a different spin on it - have restrictions makes you much more creative as it gives you a problem to solve
Now i need to do some research on Orks, so i can decide which sub factioni want to paint up my Ork Combat patrol box, or do I want to do like Nick and make up my own faction. I really like the blue orks as it reminded me of the Trollbloods from Warmachine.
I really hope to see Nick back in a video with his blue orks. I kinda want you guys to do another week or weekend challenge and him do more of his army. Im sure Jay could scrounge up some more necrons or work on a different army. I miss seeing both you guys painting on YT. I definitely want to do some Orks for next October. Hopefully somewhere in between now and then I can manage to get some orks randomly from somewhere whether they free models or something that jsut catches my eye on sale
I haven't bought an Ork Codex in 20 years. Is any of that clan stuff still in the latest versions? If you get a chance you really should get a copy of the old Waaargh The Orks, 'Ere We Go and Freebooterz books.
Do you recommend any brand of better quality synthetic brushes? I heard that brushes with natural bristles should not be used for metallic paints, and the synthetic one I bought in a local store "of all" has split ends from the moment I open it.
Oh Taxonomy, it's been so long since Highschool that, whilst Jay is accurate, it's also dated - it's all about Clades now. I was looking at Walrus' earlier, I was all like "yay still the only extant species of Odobenidae" but wait - the family is now part of the *Clade* Pinnipedia, which is no longer a Family (Family is Enaliarctos, still under Order Carnivora at least). There's a whole bunch of clades, it's wild out there.
kommandos done up in the blood axes style you did or even a totally not ork vietnam army (def koptas, burna boys, kommandos, etc.) done in that style also obligatory fortunate son during deployment

You not Twitching?
I´m glad to see minisekt store here. They have awesome prints and a few of their items are difficult to find in another store.
Heres A Tissue Nick. Dry your moist eye
Evil Sunz were so fast, they couldn't get captured for this video.
Duuuuudeeeee hahahahahahah 👏
They all got painted purple
Datz roight!❤
So sad!
Major oversight here!
It's a proven thing, the more restrictions you add to a project/mini/army the more creative you have to be and you often feel a lot more fulfilled as you've worked against resistance, it's the same way how your body feels lifting heavy things
I am once again here to remind you to paint your Grey Knights
i didnt even know he had grey knights
I've been AGONIZING over this with tyranids. Because I care about my Monster Hunter reasoning and chemicals.

This is what I do too lol I love the bad moons but God I hate painting yellow lol
Sticking to a strict uniform is more of a Blood Axes thing, since they love being tacticool
Just use yellow contrast paint on the yellow areas. Paint it with an undercoat or grey seer then use the contrast. It’s easy and looks great
That death skull ork is so cool, love the stolen stuff, very orky, WAAAGH!
I genuinely didn't want to say Nick's Blorc was my favorite.... But it kind of was.
The other serious contender was the blood axe orc. You did an incredible job with the camo shirt!
The WAAAGH on the space marine flag is just... *chefs kiss*
That Snakebite Ork is PERFECTION! Love the sculpt, but your paintjob really brings out the flavor.
Seeing your skull paint on your deathskullz has given me inspiration to finally what's left of my ork combat patrol
Thanks!
Blood axes are my favourite Ork clan. The first picture i seen of them was in 1989. Ork mek boy fixing a deff dreads leg in the middle of a fire fight. Great job. carry on.
That camo makes me want to repaint my Komandos, you made it look so easy!
The bloodaxe camo looked awesome
Very nice and fast painted orcs. I miss the Evil Sunz.
I just finished painting my first Ork last night. Perfect timing for the video
Oh lordy! Best video. Please do this with space marines, and with more story. 🤤
That Blood Axe is amazing - skin pops so well!!
By combining the lore of my homebrew league as an auxiliary for the Raptors not only did their lore become more refined, my painting skill also grew exponentially. Instead of thinking about painting a mini, I imagined in my brain a codex-style image with the space marines and kin working together which then got translated into the painting.
Nice video, I especially loved the part with the purple Orks.
Nicks blorks look the best
Rad! And those sculpts look awesome
I think classification is a vital part of being a geek. I love your geektaxonomy idea!
Great job love the blood axe
You make painting look effortless man, always amazing work 👏
I have a small group of tie dye cammo blood axes that I absolutely love.
Hardcore Minis are great...their STLs are cool, and have some of the cleanest, best resin production on the physical pieces. Nice to see them as a sponsor, and love what you've done with the models.

I just got into orks and felt super unsure about the pale violet skin and bright pink clothing but seeing the blorks made me feel better!
1. Goffs are da best
2. I personally like cammo green for regular orcs, blue-green for blorcs, chartreuse for gobos
These minis, and their fantastic paint jobs, are totally Orktoba!
Those Battletoads look awesome, good luck Hardcore minis!
Painting in the style of blood axes really solidified my love of Orks. I get a real feeling of nostalgia for collecting G.I. Joes because design wise there is a lot of overlap, they're both army dudes that look more like comic book characters than like a real army.

Missed opportunity to give the Blood Axe-Ork a purple camouflage shirt :P
I really liked what you did. For the Goff, I was missing Vicking helmets. The Bad Moons are used to wear Middle Age Hoodies
Thank you for giving the Blood Axe some overdue respect. I don't do much gaming anymore but when i do build Orks, the Blood Axe are my go to greenskins.

Dem Boyz look zoggin' mint, boss!
8:27 Great Tip, Jay!
This guy is so good
Awesome. I Absolutely Love Hardcore Miniatures 👍
i really like your painting, looks so easy when you do it, lol, great job with that camo!
this

Niks blue Orkz, of course!
Sadly I couldn't see the Evil Sunz, they were too fast.
That blood axe was fantastic

Wow ! Which is my favourite Ork ? You are. That's awesome .
I'm loving your sponge arc
It aways seemed to me that Blood Axe camo would be wild, bright colors. kinda like that orange safety hunter camo.
Like this idea for my own blood axes. Chosen due to the snikrot boxset - made sense to make my whole army this clan.
I loved the purple ork boy!
Agree. Literally every other faction needs some of that lore love, like Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Knights, Eldar, Necrons, and Tau
This was fun thanks! I wanna do ork commandos. But paint their camo purple haha
they make reverse action tweezers you don't hold to close but hold to release which are very useful
like the hand on the work bench behind you
If you want a more vibrant green you should try mantis warrior green
Now i need to do some research on Orks, so i can decide which sub factioni want to paint up my Ork Combat patrol box, or do I want to do like Nick and make up my own faction.
I really like the blue orks as it reminded me of the Trollbloods from Warmachine.
7:30 you could have done camouflage that clashes and isn't right for the environment as it somehow works for the blood axes
nice this is the camo video iv been looking for thanks
Absolutely loved this. Such a fun video. Tempted by a snakebite squad now 😂
Great video for Orktober.
i mean, as someone who also has an army of blue orcs (for kings of war, not warhammer, but still!), i have to say nick's ork is my favorite.
My first warhammer minis are orc boyz, definitely fun to paint👌👌👌
Awww no Freebootaz. I was looking forward to the pirate hat.
Have you ever used a zenithal with a dark color undercoat instead of black? I feel like when i use black it makes it seem kind of dull sometimes
Would love to see more camo work. Painting a blood axe army now
7:10 you can see a purple ork in the backround
That was a great watch.
Quick question for Jay and community how do you prepare inks for use in highlighting?
I really hope to see Nick back in a video with his blue orks. I kinda want you guys to do another week or weekend challenge and him do more of his army. Im sure Jay could scrounge up some more necrons or work on a different army. I miss seeing both you guys painting on YT. I definitely want to do some Orks for next October. Does anyone know what yellow he used to sponge on the Badmoon after the Aggrax earthshade was applied? I really love how that turned out!
Hahahahahahahaha 'the models at your house right now' 😂😂😂
I haven't bought an Ork Codex in 20 years. Is any of that clan stuff still in the latest versions?
If you get a chance you really should get a copy of the old Waaargh The Orks, 'Ere We Go and Freebooterz books.
Also I love the use of a traditional photoshop method.
I’m going crazy on my kroot making all the skins in all the colors there going to be great
What contrast was the darker green you used for the first ork skin and the shirt?
Never thought to use red checkers on a goff most of the time I see them with black and white checkers.
Nicks blue orks must be some really lucky gits. Hopefully I can play you guys sometime in the future!
blork and waaaaghultra banna ork are my favorite :)
Damn R.I.P da speediest of Boyz, the Evil Sunz
Um... that camo is AMAZING
I love these episodes 😂
I think i'm gunna steal your Death Skullz idea & use any Ultrasmurf stuff i have in my bits box to enhance my Orks :)
It's Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species! (Kings Play Cards On Fat Green Stools)
King Penguins Climb Over Fresh Grassy Slopes!
Funny how it varies slightly. I learned Kings Play Chess On Fine Green Stools.
That hellbrect 😮
beautiful!
The blue ork looks like an orky rogue trooper.
Am always impressed that 2-4 minutes into the video, I would be like cool model and then they just keep going 😂
* cool model done*
Do you recommend any brand of better quality synthetic brushes? I heard that brushes with natural bristles should not be used for metallic paints, and the synthetic one I bought in a local store "of all" has split ends from the moment I open it.
👍👍 wait, Nick has a recipe? I thought he was still basecoating 👍😆
Didn’t think I’d see Battle Toad miniatures in this video today
I wanna know the darker color you used for the skin 😊
Oh Taxonomy, it's been so long since Highschool that, whilst Jay is accurate, it's also dated - it's all about Clades now. What!? I didn’t know this! * frenzied Wikipedia-ing *
5:30 because most Beast Snaggas are Snake Bites
10:16 a stolen Banner from the Blood Ravens would be even better
So Evil Sunz (My Boyz) and Freebootas are getting their own episode? Fingers crossed. Need my Speed Freeks. Pirates are cool too….BUT CARS!
Dems a rigt snazzy paint job!!
kommandos done up in the blood axes style you did or even a totally not ork vietnam army (def koptas, burna boys, kommandos, etc.) done in that style
also obligatory fortunate son during deployment
