    When Willy mentions "he do not want to die,because he was born into this world " you can see Eren's face lit up for a split second. This was the same thing his mother told Keith Sadis. The callbacks and the parallels in this episode is unreal.

      Its what eren told himself as his given right to be able to go beyond the walls and achieve freedom. When willy says it it resonates with eren because he realises for a brief moment that the people he is about to murder have the same views as he did. They recognize that the rumbling is an imminent threat that can ruin them all and they must fight against it just like how the titan invasion was an imminant threat to the walls after the fall of wall maria and the scouts had to fight for their freedom but this time its eren brining the threat and imposing on the marleyan freedom.

  • @JJS1609
    @JJS1609 2 роки тому +531

    This is the genius of Isayama's writing. He proves his point about the cruel truth of human nature through the audience themselves. Because you guys have followed the scouts for so long and have become attached to them and view yourselves as being on their side, you feel outrage at the cruelty inflicted upon them but root for the cruelty they inflict in return. But in the end, no matter what side you are on, you are committing horrible, cruel acts and are on the receiving end of them as well. What the first four episodes of this season illustrate brilliantly is that if AOT started from the perspective of the Eldians in Marley instead of Paradis Island, your viewpoint on who is in the wrong would be flipped.

    • @ryanb846
      @ryanb846 2 роки тому +54

      Isayama gleefully dares you to hate characters like Gabi, all the while illustrating the mirror-clear parallels between them and the characters we've followed for 3 seasons. Sympathetic "villains" are nothing new, but the choice after so much story to do a complete 180 and delve uncomfortably deep into characters we've been rooting against for so long takes so much balls. This story is so good, and it gets better.

    • @evestar775
      @evestar775 2 роки тому +12

      Truth. He did amazing plots and twist for the characters as well, like the panel between Erwin x Armin. This story actually reflects in every human nature. This is not just about titans, but deeper than you thought. Which why now I understand why Isayama didn't exaggerated the fighting fights in this season, but this season is more of tackling informations and developing the plot. Isayama is the goat.

    • @yamshimi6014
      @yamshimi6014 2 роки тому +6

      yeahh at this point, the viewers are just within Isayama's hands. Also notice how all of us feel satisfied when Gross was pushed off by the Owl? In the end, we all support cruelty because of our own bias

    • @mudjumper
      @mudjumper 2 роки тому +8

      I fucking hate comments like this, man. If the POV was reversed, I would still hate Marley for being a fascist imperialist state that uses peoples’ ancestry as a justification for violating their human rights. War is hell, even when it’s justified, so innocent people are gonna die in the fight to topple an evil institution. That’s reality.

    • @MayumiSaegusaShiba
      @MayumiSaegusaShiba 2 роки тому +7

      @@mudjumper isayama tries to tell you that even though marley and its people are undeniably interwoven, there comes a point where you have to recognize that you CAN separate people from the systematic institutions that rule over them. it's why even though we know the marleyans are shit what eren does is still disguting.
      if you want an irl example then take the japan bombings. imperial japan was TERRIBLE (my grandma herself experienced it), but would people call the bombing of nagasaki and hiroshima any less vile? no, of course not

    This episode marks the 100 th chapter of the manga. The conversation between Reiner and Eren is one the most fascinating scene in the entire series. You can always feel the tension throughout the episode. Eren is not here merely to take revenge,he is doing that because he has no other choice same like Reiner. They are the different faces of the same coin. Reiner finally got somebody whom he can confide in. In a way, Eren helped Reiner to lift up the insurmountable guilt that he was carrying.If they had meet in different circumstances they could have been best of friends but due to their situation it was never possible. It was so brilliantly written and executed in this episode.

    What a complex and well written episode.
    what Eren said to falco in episode 3 in the hospital is very important to understand the structure of this episode :
    to summarize Eren said in episode 3 that in war there is two types of people, people who fight because they had to and people who fight because they decided to, Eren said that both side will see hell, but people who push their own back see a different kind of hell, they can see something beyond the hell, might be hope of another hell, only those who keep moving forward will ever know
    Eren is also a character that hate or pity people who doesn't have free will of their actions or motivations
    - in this episode Eren asked about his mother and why she died that day, Reiner's first respond let Eren guess that Reiner had a mission and he has to do it because marleyan told him to do so, in that way Eren categorized Reiner as a poor guy how was brainwashed by the gouvernement, like the injury people in the hospital, he basically pity and forgive him.
    - but Reiner didn't stop there, Reiner said that he did what he did because he wanted to be a hero, and breaking the wall was his decision, Reiner now said the truth and he did so because he wanted to be judge and killed, now the perspective change, Eren consider Reiner as a person who did this on purpose. so in a way we could guess that now Eren have a valid reason to take revenge on Reiner and kill him,
    But no, eren now valuate even more Reiner because they are the same (people who fought because they wanted and decided to) and for both to see the end they have to move forward , and now it's Eren's turn to move forward like Reiner did in season 1.

    This story is arguably the best written in manga/ anime history. What it's strikes me the most is the majority of the characters are children. Children forced by the cruel reality they live in to be literally cannon fodder. How many adults would be able to go thru that spartan type of training like Eren&Co or the kids from Marley? Malnourished, bullied, most of them already being orphans and on top of ALL that misery, they have to fight against 15+ meters high mindless and regeneration capable monsters. Who are actually their own people. That gruesome reality, they call daily life.
    There is also no black and white type of scenario in this show. You can't root only for one side. They all are right in their own way because there's not ONE truth. In fact, nobody knows what or if there's any truth. That makes this story so fascinating.

    Hi Austin just wanna to say that you are such a wise person. The way you interpret the show is just another level and exactly what the author is trying to express. Attack on titan should never be a story that hypes you up, it’s a realistically sad and cruel story. The fighting scenes or the revenge should not be something we should be excited about, that is sad and ignorant just like mankind is the whole time. To win, to take the revenge of, every side has their own version of justice, and the cycle keeps going on. The history will repeat itself. I’m so glad you can see things above that as this is not like any other teen manga. It’s the world we are living, cruel but beautiful.

If it was just for what the warriors did then even wouldn't be doing this, he doesn't want revenge, he just attacked bc they declared waar, he just transform on Reiner's side bc he's still his enemy and he has to protect his people. Revenge isn't the main reason why Eren does it, but it is part of it too. He is avenging his mother, the eldians turned to titans and the eldians eaten by titans. All of the things he and his friends has had to go through becouse of it.

    • @DeathByHentai
      @DeathByHentai 2 роки тому +2

      @@beastvicious8672 I disagree. Eren makes it very clear he understands the way the world is and why Reiner and friends did what they did. To me it seems like he has forgiven Reiner, because he is now in the same boat as him. There's not an ounce of revenge left in him, just a sense of duty and responsibility to help free his people. There's a huge burden on his shoulders and not even 1% of that is revenge. Revenge is something the old Eren wanted, the young immature and forever gone Eren.

But his mom was killed becouse of them and many more. If you've read the manga, you'll see this being brought up as well. There's a part of it which is about revenge. He did play around with Reiner a little bit here. He doesn't want Reiner dead, but he still wanted to break him mentally becouse of what they did. That was definitely becouse of revenge, becouse he didn't have to do that. He already knew Reiner's situation before talking to him.

    On the first mention of the phrase, at Reiner's first glance of Eren, the meaning is more of getting revenge on Reiner's hometown. Second mention was about understanding Reiner's situation where people are influenced by their own environments when people are still young and naive. This made us think that Eren was there for peace, especially with that handshake, but moving forward was all Eren did. Masterfully crafted story up to the tiniest of details.
