- Cruise ship Ovation of the Seas navigating the river "Ems" from Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany to Eemshaven, the Netherlands on March 11 and 12, 2016. The nearly 400 meters (390.8) long tug boat formation was navigating the narrow river guided by Differential GPS. The Ovation of the Seas is together with the Quantum and Anthem of the Seas the third biggest cruise ship in the world and actually the biggest ever build in Germany. She is 348 meter long, 41.4 meter wide and has a gross-tonnage of 168,600 gt. With 2,094 cabins on 18 decks, the Ovation of the Seas has space for up to 4,188 passengers.

I was able to do this trip. I worked at the Meyer Werft shipyard on the Celebrity "Equinox". To the Germans, it's like watching the Space Shuttle blast off every time a ship leaves. A lot of the residents of Papenburg and Leer work there and have for generations. They line the banks of the Ems River to say farewell. To many, it's the last time they will ever see the ship that many have worked on for 2 1/2 years or more. They bring their family to the river to show them what they have accomplished. They have a lot of pride as would anyone. Great film Meyer Werft!

+Kallis Video Production Vielen Dank! Das war diesmal echt ein Haufen Arbeit, das ist und bleibt aber eine Ausnahme, da mir dafür Zeit fehlt. Aber da ich diesmal vom RCL Pressecenter (und den anderen Beteiligten) grünes Licht für die Verwendung der OnBoard Aufnahmen wollte ich die Chance nutzen ein richtig vollständiges Video zumachen.

The video would have been better with comments and less music. But it is impressing to watch how they get it out on the sea.

Vielen, vielen Dank! Die Nachtaufnahmen stammen von einer Sony a7S, die bei Lowlight sehr gut ist. Dafür haben mir die Tageslichtaufnahmen der Kamera weniger gut gefallen. Die Zeitraffer wurden aus Einzelfotos zusammen gesetzt. Daher kommt die gute Qualität. Weil mein PC jedoch immer wieder streikte, habe ich für die Bearbeitung des Videos circa 2-3 Wochen gebraucht. Das war die Hölle! In Zukunft will ich nicht so viel Aufwand betreiben. Die vielen Positionswechsel waren nur möglich, weil das Schiff sehr langsam fuhr. Grüße Alexander

Ein super super Film ist es geworden! Klasse, die vielen verschiedenen Perspektiven. Ihr hatte ja tolle Aufnahmemöglichkeiten. Hatte Ihr einen Deal mit der Meyerwerft?
Die Nachtaufnahmen sind qualitativ deutlich besser als von den anderen UA-camrn! War das die Sony? Dann bin ich auf meine Testaufnahmen im Dunkeln gespannt. Hut ab vor der tollen Arbeit, ihr hattet sicher Stunden an Filmmaterial. Gruss DrDuu
+DrDuu Danke! Fast alle Außenaufnahmen sind mit der Sony gemacht worden. Die Sony-Kameras sind momentan im Lowlight-Verhalten echt unschlagbar. Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit der Kamera. Ich bin schon gespannt, was bei den Testaufnahmen mit der A6300 rauskommt. Zusammen mit den Foto-Zeitraffern hatte ich über 200 GB Material. Allein das Aussortieren und die Aufbereitung der Zeitraffer hat ewig gedauert.
Wir hatten für die Reederei einige Außenaufnahmen angefertigt. Die tollen On-Board-Aufnahmen sind allerdings nicht von mir und wurden freundlicherweise vom Pressecenter zur Verfügung gestellt. Auf das Schiff sind wir leider nicht gekommen. ;-)

Kleine Randbemerkung: Mir ist schon in anderen Videos von dir/euch aufgefallen, dass das Nebelhorn bei den neueren Schiffen, die ihr gefilmt habt, gleich bzw. sehr identisch klingen.
Trotzdem ein wirklich hammermäßiges Video!!!!!!
+Sebastian Neininger Danke für das nette Kommentar! Das erste Nebelhorn im Video stammt noch von der Anthem. Da musste ich etwas tricksen, weil ich für meine neue Kamera noch keine windsichere Tonlösung habe. Das Horn am Ende des Videos ist aber echt.

The river Ems is not deep enough for this ship. Maneuvering the ship backwards is easier and the propellers of the ship are generating a lift.

any reason why would anyone build a narrow passage like that when they know they are building huge ships...i mean doesn't make any sense...its pretty easy to widen that passage.
Do you mean the complete passage? The reason is that it is a river and it shouldn't be widened. In my opininion it would make much more sense, if the shipyard would change his position closer to the North Sea. If you do only mean the small narrow channel at the beginning of the video, it is possible that it will be widened for lager cruise ships.
