Ovation of the Seas Cruise Travel Diary | Sydney to New Zealand (Milford Sound, Wellington, Picton)

- Hi guys, hope you have all been doing well! In 2019, I went on a cruise trip to New Zealand with my family on the Royal Caribbean Cruises - Ovation of the Seas. This video is definitely long overdue haha, but I've finally finished putting it all together and thought I would share this amazing trip with you.
This was a 9 night cruise from Sydney to New Zealand, and we got to visit the spectacular Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound. We also stopped at Wellington, where we took the Wellington Cable Car, strolled around the Botanic Gardens, checked out the popular Cuba Street and of course visited The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
We also visited the beautiful seaside town of Picton, where we took a cruise to the historic site - Ship Cove and got to see so many dolphins on the way. We were also supposed to visit Dunedin, however due to strong winds we weren't able to stop there, which was a shame. Nonetheless, this was still such a fun and relaxing trip, there are so many things to do on the ship and so much delicious food! Hubby and I are leaving in January on a 15 day Viking cruise to Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. No children allowed, no broadway shows or gambling. Just a small auditorium where experts talk about history, geology, animals, etc. Music is just a piano player and sometimes a violinist. Everything is included including all food, wine, excursions. The trip we took on a Viking expedition ship to Antarctica was over the top. It included a 6 person submarine. Viking is the only cruise line we’ll book. No more than 600 people.Thanks for your video. It gives us a good overview of what we’ll experience.
Honestly its good that you like that but for us the entertainment freedom and excitement on board is what draws us plus the delicious food.
I would hate to have to go to talks about geology or animals it would seem like work to me - having meetings and talks is part of my everyday life.

Damn I miss living in New Zealand when seeing videos like this. I used to do a lot of extended weekend roadtrips arround the country, and visited a lot of the places shown in this video. I wanna go back soooooo bad :)

For Wellington if you're really into birds, when you're at the top of the rail car drop off near the cafe you can get a free shuttle bus to Zealandia which is so pretty and has rare birds, make sure to get to the top of the dam

I too tend to get motion sickness, especially on small boats going on harsh waves. I’ve never been on a cruise, do you think the rockiness (if that’s a term haha) is quite bad?

Is there washer and dryers for the cruisers to use, or only a service? Our cruise is for 18 days and just curious. I love that Disney cruise has washer and dryers for use.

@@Amanda.mcwilliam So exciting! We left from Sydney and it was very hot +30 degrees C! In New Zealand you definitely need to dress in layers. Was mostly in tshirts and jeans during the day. In some areas it gets cold so you need a hoodie and rain jacket. It was very windy on the ship so you need to take advantage of the indoor solarium pool. You’ll have a fabulous time - we sure did!

We didn't get to see the sound for the same reason and had 2 boring days in Dunedin, trust me you din't miss much

Wanted to know if the food in majority central dining food court areas is it complementary ? Or roughly what are food prices and drink prices. Like also coffe and alcohol. Can we get this info anywhere before hand ? Also while we go out on the day trips. Do we get enough time to do sight seeing and what all costs are covered like transport from Ports to central drop.off.points like that. Thanks in advance I have asked too many questions haphazardly.
