Fun fact about Big Rigs (and presumably Midnight Race Club): if you continually reverse for a little under an hour, you'll eventually reach 12.3 *undecillion* (that's 36 zeroes) miles per hour. At that point, you will automatically win the race, as you're going so fast the game registers you as being everywhere at once.
My question is: What would happen if you went through the race normally but don't go through ANY of the checkpoints? Would it still let you win, or would it not register unless you get at least one checkpoint? Like driving through and then reversing, yeah, but what's the limit to it's bad count of wins?
Fun fact about _Big Rigs._ The version they played? Actually a later version. There was an earlier version, that I _think_ was available on retail shelves, where you only had one playable truck, and the opponent vehicle never moved at all. It stayed on the start line forever.
I remember the Yaris game at Evo 2007. There was a contest to get the highest score. Of course, being full of fighting game players, an exploit for infinite points of found by the end of the first day. Don't kill the final boss, & the game goes on forever.
Remember how in the Worst Plug & Play videos, the first console had "Boat Race", which was just a visual hack of "F-1 Race", and then the sequel console changed it to "UFO Race", and then again into "Bicycle Race"? Midnight Race Club is basically just that to Big Rigs, except they didn't even bother to change the backgrounds to make it look as if it were a different game.
Apparently for Midnight Race Club, it was supposed to be one whole game with Tuner cars, trucks, bikes, and Big Rigs, but Steller Stone likely didn't have enough time to finish the game so they sold Big Rigs and Midnight Race Club as separate games. Fun fact, the Big Rigs are still in Midnight Race Club, you just have to be lucky when you play the game via it's quick race function, which will risk a chance of the game falling on it's face as one of the vehicles doesn't wanna work, much like the original version of Big Rigs, if you pick the Lamborghini ripoff, it crashes the whole game
What's even badder and sadder about Race Drivin on the Snes is that there's a homebrew mod that makes it an impressive visual showcase of a game, and shows what could have been with some added hardware and better coding. I'm really surprised that you didn't feature it it your video, since it really makes the unmodded version look even more goofy.
OP is probably referring to the SA-1 mod made by Vitor Vilela He also modded other games that could use the SA-1 in the same way, and they all work WAY better than their original versions I would link it here, but YT would kill my comment
Now that Microids have a Tintin game on the way for the PS5/Switch, I’d love to see Rerez cover Infogrames’ 3 Tintin PC games in a future episode (yes, they’re really bad! VGRetro was SEVERELY let down by Tintin in Tibet!)
@@adultmoshifan87 One bad game or games that I would like to see them cover is the cdi Nintendo titles: Hotel Mario, Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and Zelda’s Adventure. All of them are a sight to behold
An interesting thing about Big Rigs and Midnight Race Club is they weren’t meant to be released in this state. But GameMill Publishing wanted them on the shelf as soon as possible, even if it meant releasing them in a pre-alpha state. The producer of the games even stated he had no input on the games, and didn’t even get to have a say in halting production.
That is a much worse level of greed than with FlatOut 3 and Ride to Hell (yes, the publishers were accountable for those disasters)... I guess, money says jump, you should ask "How high"?
06:53 the passenger cannot see the speedometer. I distinctly remember a coworker who had a Yaris saying, "It's great! My wife can't comment on my speed now!"
I can easily see the speedometer as a pass anger, granted I sit on the opposite side to. American passengers but I'm fairly sure the driver can also see the speedometer.
That doesn't make sense, a passenger can see the radio display which is in the middle, why not the speedometer? If it's in the middle then the driver is as far away from it as the passenger as well.
Fun fact: "Big Rigs" and "Midnight Race Club" were originally being developed (and were supposed to be released) as one single game, but GameMill, the publisher of not only these two games, but all of Stellar Stone's catalogue except for "Taxi Racer" (if anyone cares to ask, "Taxi Racer" was published by a Dutch company named BestBuys Interactive), split it into two, taking away the trucks from "Midnight Race Club" into their own separate but exactly identical game (only without collision detection, and I'm assuming this was because "Midnight Race Club" did not have collision detection at the time, either), and shipped the end result in what we now infamously know as "Big Rigs". Not that this makes Stellar Stone any less guilty of their crimes against gaming, though. Also, like another user said before (thanks, Verdant Range), LJN was long dead before "Spirit of Speed 1937" came along. Its brand was just brought back by Acclaim for just this one title. I don't know if it has ever been confirmed that it actually was because the game was of such poor quality that Acclaim didn't want to associate themselves with it and hoped that, by putting the LJN logo on it instead of theirs, no one would notice it was actually them, but it's the most popular rumor. In any case, great video, as usual!
"Hey, this game looks just about ready to go!" "But... It's not ready..." "Tell you what! How's about you clone this game and delete the trucks from one game and all the other cars from the other?" "But... It's not... ready....." "Cool, great chat. I want my truck game on my desk by Monday!" "But... The collision... And the random race mode... And the momentum.... It's not.... It's not ready yet......"
What's hilarious is that one of the people that was involved with Big Rigs, Sergey Titov, said he had no involvement with the game, despite his name being in the fucking credits.
The ghost of the money I wasted on the Saturn version of Mortal Kombat 2, is that you? Ghost: YES! If you didn’t give your Mega Drive away, you could’ve gotten that console’s superior version! Also, if you weren’t so picky over how Kitana dresses, you could’ve gotten Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for that Saturn of yours!
It should be noted that LJN was already long gone by the time that one racing game came out. They closed down in 1994. I'm guessing their parent company Acclaim didn't want their logo on it, so they used the LJN branding on it. Also, LJN's branding came back last year. It's being used by Jazwears for their All Elite Wrestling Unmatched line of action figures. Also also, if you want to know what really killed LJN, look up a line of toy guns called Entertech.
I'll save people the trouble of looking it up 'Company closure The end of Entertech's short-lived success was due in part to incidents in which law enforcement officers shot and killed children toting toy guns, claiming to have mistaken them for actual firearms.[7] Toy guns were used in robberies of retail establishments and banks.[8][9] Amid these highly publicized incidents, Entertech voluntarily began manufacturing guns with blaze orange-colored caps in 1987, and began a line of less-realistic neon-colored guns later that year.' TLDR, The toy guns looked like real guns and sold in the USA, you can use your imagination as to what can happen.
@@ruekurei88 Makes sense... especially when you consider that Nintendo and Takara had to alter their products due to their likeness to real guns to avoid issues like this: the Nintendo Zapper being from Grey to Orange, and G1 Megatron toy becoming a tank in later Transformers releases.
@@Fate263 Hasbro made that change Takara TOMY can legally in Japan sell the Microchange Gunrobo mold with the bullet pellets restored legally as a G1 reissue in Japan.
Acclaim used the LJN brand on Nentendo games to skirt the original limit on published games for the NES and SNES that's why they bought it. Basically they aquired the name and there contract for cartrages. The Dreamcast game was more like a excuse to renew the trademark and avoid using there own name on a bad PC port to console.
The takeaway I get from bad games is that good game design is not actively noticed (which is not a bad thing because you should be able to settle in smoothly for a good experience) but bad game design is very noticeable.

LJN was a toy company founded in 1970 by Jack Friedman, who’d later leave the company after Acclaim Entertainment acquired it to start THQ. Thirty years isn’t a bad run for a video game publisher. There are plenty of less reviled companies that haven’t managed that kind of longevity…

With the infinite reverse speed glitch in Big Rigs it's funny (and a bit sad) that developers nowadays STILL forget to implement "negative caps". Trackmania 2 hilariously had a very similar glitch where Nadeo while implementing a maximum reverse acceleration forgot to put in a reverse speed CAP. Meaning if you had enough space to reverse and the right skills to steer you could beat some tracks fast driving in REVERSE.
oh yes, i saw a video about people "speedrunning" it, and it said the game makers TRIED to fix that, but goofed: TURNING while in reverse STILL makes you speed up past the normal limit!
@@ericb3157BIG RIGS OVER THE ROAD RACING and NASCAR 21 IGNITION judging on how broken those games are, effectively made LoveLive School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live and F1 22 looked amazing to play. Period! 😂
Its not about the lack of negative capping. Its all about the integer inder/overflowing. See most developer would use an integer that lets negative number to properly limit how much number is used on a variable and to save in memory and calculation. Some will use bigger integer value like long and maybe the float and doubles. How i see big rigs did it, is that they used 2 long worth of variable each for forward and backward motion thrust. This result in them aimply labeling the second variable as negative and draw it as negative. The reason it can go into the octodecillion is because they must have used a double, a variable meant for high data values which is meant to display the points like 1.50. Uaing double as normal variable gives alot of data and if its an unsigned value, it goes from 0 to whatever the doubles maximum data was it(i forgor) but its big.

The speedo in a yaris is in the centre for cheapness. It means they don't have to make another dashboard for markets like the USA from Japan who drive on the otherside of the road. They just move the steering wheel. You'll probably find holes for pedals in the passenger side already there also lol.
@@prestonscott1890 that trippy digital system model that seems like the speedo is in the void way far past your car done by mirrors was pretty gimmicky/cool.
It does contribute to the Yaris' mind-boggling number of compartments, since the area in front of the driver and passenger becomes a pair of pretty handy storage bins.
Well, this is just great. I think Spirit of Speed might be a touch more interesting to fans of the genre (by all accounts actual races back then were nearly that crazy) but the overall presentation and storyline was most excellent. The terrible turning is BS, judging from historical footage of the real thing where Dick Seamen is taking those tight turns at high speeds for the infamously homophobic Hitler. No, that's not a joke; it really happened. But it is realistic for some cars to be completely left in the dust at the start. And for some drivers to be struggling more than others. Basically, there doesn't seem to be much interest in making the race as close as possible. Or as safe as possible. Or safe in general. Dick Seaman, admirer of the Nazi party and representative of the master race, would suffer a real beating that year. Two years later, he'd be giving head to a massive piece of wood, by which I mean a tree. He died a horrifying death, that metaphorically represented his much deserved trip to Hell. So...I'm not sure what the developer was thinking. Why make the game boring, but also nearly impossible?
Big Rigs actually did have a selection that would crash your game every single time. The game got multiple releases, you only played the last one In the first release, one of the stages would always hard crash the game every time you selected it (on top of the AI driver not even moving until the last release... That was a thing that happened)
I fuckin hope so, when it comes to all the issues the game has the fact that NOTHING besides the ground has clash detection is levels of unfinished game that I couldn’t even imagine before going into this video. Do they not even know how to code, I don’t think clash detection is very hard. I just want to know what was happening behind the scenes it could be hilarious maybe it’s sad who knows lol
The thing you need to remember about "Donkey" is that this was all done in a night! Back then, to have graphics and sound, let alone a functional game was unheard of. The demo's and games from Apple and Atari took weeks if not months to program, they're hardly comparable!
I’m pretty sure the 1937 game intends for you to downshift on the turns for reasonable handling like you do in real NASCAR, but that doesn’t excuse hitting the wall and SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Ya know something? LJN died before the new millennia but it continued to live on in spirit. It’s founder Jack Friedman went on to found THQ which had the same kinda business model as LJN and didn’t collapse until 2013. By the way, ever wonder what THQ stood for? Toy HeadQuarters. Also, Spirit Of Speed 1937 wasn’t published by LJN as it was shut down by Acclaim five years earlier. They just used the branding here for some reason.
The most hilarious thing was that the Nerd genuinely had fun with it, it's so broken it gets into "so bad it's good" territory. A lot of the times games that get most negative rep are glitchy unpolished mess, while the actual worst games ever are those that are either boring and borderline unplayable, or just frustrating as hell. I relate to not being able to land that plane and getting mad at the overall bad design of first NES TNMT game much more than to people calling something worst game of all time because of a few broken animations.

Hey Shane, funny thing about Big Rigs : Over The Road Racing is that you're playing the fixed version of the game. The original release of Big Rigs : Over The Road Racing was buggy even more than the version you're playing as the fourth track crashed the game when selected and your opponent does not move at all.
Are they ? The original game I know had a truck that didn't move at all but the patched version also change the "You're Winner" to "You Win." Maybe they have some different version as they still have You're Winner but the truck actually moves.
@@Gatorade69 I wish, but no. The version of Big Rigs : Over The Road Racing they have is a fixed copy and is awful, but it makes the truck move and fixes the fourth track being actually selectable. So, it's not the worst version of Big Rigs as the original release was much worse. If the opponent doesn't move, there's no race.
Monster Truck Rally was the original name of both the NES and Intellivision versions. They have the same feel as Motorcross Madness, a motorcycle racing game for the Intellivision. That was released in 1982 or thereabouts. INTV tried to shift with the times and add NES releases to their catalog, but they were too slow to shift.
I thought after that monster truck nonsense there was no way it could get worse but I, of course, had forgotten about big rigs. It's absolutely mind blowing that this was a game that got released and SOLD at stores for actual real life money.
Midnight Race Club, the Big Rigs sequel/duplicate at the end, is even weirder and more confusing when you remember that Big Rigs had a rerelease in between the two release dates, a very slightly edited version that had the opponent actually able to finish the race. I remember seeing it in another review a few years ago. So they fixed one of the problems, only to put it right back in again in midnight race club
I appreciate that these are new segments with a framing device and not just a compilation of videos we've already seen before that's no different from watching a playlist.

As bad as Spirit of speed is it actually has some sort of historic accuracy. The race cars of the 1930s were incredibly difficult to drive. Auto Union's cars from the time had engines with up to 600 horsepower, mounted onto a frame that was basicly two steel beams. ANd th esuspension wasn't that different from what you would find on an old VW Beetle (Ferdinand Porsche was heavily involved in both). When modern drivers have tried to drive them they have all been very clear that the cars were both incredibly difficult and scary to drive. And they required a lot of physical effort. The unfairness of the grid also happened back then. The rulebook was much thinner back then, and cars that would be placed into different classes now were just lumped into the same race and sent off. If Mercedes and Auto Union showed up the other teams could just forget about the top positions. Both Mercedes and Auto Union got governmental support at the time. The angry guy with the mustache who was in power was very interested in cars, and was very pleased with the fact that Mercedes was the worlds first professional racing team. The people in the team all had matching suits, everybody knew exactly what their job was, and they had a trained pit crew just like we see in F1 racing today. This was completely unheard of at the time. The guy with the old paintbrush stuck under his nose decided that the only thing that was better than one German team who won everything, was two German teams who left everyone else in the dust and took turns winning. So then the Auto Union racing team was founded (a collaboration between DKW, Horch, Wanderer and Audi). The two teams for the most part dominated racing from 1935 to 1939, and they were far ahead of everyone else, with Rudolf Carraciola and Bernd Rosemeyer being two of the most accomplished drivers. The cars they were driving then could probably still have been competitive in the 1950s. In the 1935 German Grand Prix an Italian racing driver named Tazio Nuvolari managed to beat both Mercedes and Auto Union in an outdated Alfa Romeo P3. Nobody had expected that a non German car would win so nobody had brought anything else than the German national anthem to play at the victory ceremony. But that was no problem. Because Tazio Nuvolari always travelled with a 78 recording of the Italian national anthem in his suitcase. The full story is very entertaining and worth looking into if one is interested in racing history.
See 0:03 I like the fact that you guys used the plate number "CH4RON" as it spells out the name Charon, the ferryman who transports ghosts to Hades from Greek mythology.
What bothers me is that the team from Mafia probably saw Spirit of Speed 1937 before they made their game and still did almost the same thing in one unskippable story mission which plagues the game... Also this (23:47) is HILARIOUS !
Mafia's racing sequence is more akin to sim racing than spirit of speed. That's why it is so frustrating for most players. They aren't used to sim race. And who could blame them? Sim racing is a niche. A sizeable niche, but a niche nonetheless.
The only thing they could have done was consult Polyphony Digital for the driving physics, as Gran Turismo 3-esque physics are stiff enough to give it a sim-feel, but easy to learn for non-racing gamers. But in 2002 the industry was a completely different beast. Oh, and the first Forza game came out in 2005, so there goes your Forza suggestion
12.3*(10^36) MPH is about 3.42*(10^33) miles per second. For comparison purposes, the speed of light is a rather poky 186288 miles per second (or 670636800 MPH, if you prefer).
And keep in mind that is the highest speed not because it caps there, its the highest speed because at that point you reach a state of omnipresence and the game ends there, if it didn’t you could probably go even faster.
Ah yes, Big Rigs… I remember seeing Yogscast play it. “…Can you tell me what’s wrong with reversing?” “What’s wrong with reversing?” *tries it* “Pfft, hah, fuck’s sake… it’s faster than going forwards? …Oh my God. Oh my God! OH MY GOD! WHAAAAAT?!”

Ah Sergey Titov. After Big Rigs he tried to make a Zombie MMO called The War Z copying another game DayZ. That also failed. He went into "no refunds" mode and the rest was history - gaming youtube unanimously called him a con man and a fraud.
Funny enough The WarZ would have it's name changed to Infestation: Survivor Stories. Gee, I wonder why they would change it when their game is already a rip-off of a Arma 2 mod?
That entire Spirit of Speed section seems like a big ol case of “skill issue” tbh. Every complaint is literally just from a lack of understanding how such racing games are played, outside of the “bouncing wall” and “no signage on the road to announce corners” You can’t just full throttle through corners. You understeer that way. That’s realistic. Cars breaking down during a race gives you a yellow flag indicating there’s danger. That’s realistic. Etc
I play many sim racers and i would tell you SoS 1937 is not worth your time No matter how much you drive carefully it still handle like crap and the physics are crap too Mafia Racing Mode is leagues ahead of this crappy game in terms of races of that era
For those curious the reason the speedometer is in the center of the Yaris (AKA the Echo AKA Platz) is that in some countries like the UK people drive on the other side of the road from the US and thus have their steering wheels on the other side. So thus you don't have to redesign the dash for the foreign market. I personally loved mine but I'm not sure how you make a exciting game out of a small, reliable, fuel efficient car that has plenty of trunk room for groceries.

some rectification about Spirit of Speed 1937 and LJN: - LJN was dissolved in 1994 - Acclaim Entertainment (who had bought LJN in 1990) was the true publisher of the game; they just decided to release it under the LJN name, probably cause they too thought the game was so ass; this game may still count as the final LJN game - the PC version was published by MicroProse (a label of Hasbro Interactive) exclusively in Europe

Of course they were published by GameMill. That explains a lot lol.

"Hey, this game looks just about ready to go!"

"Tell you what! How's about you clone this game and delete the trucks from one game and all the other cars from the other?"

Big Rigs Over the Road Racing is basically released on Pre Beta State. Not even NASCAR 21 can do that. 😂
I love how the Ghost of the money we wasted on bad racers interact with themselves
The ghost of the money I wasted on the Saturn version of Mortal Kombat 2, is that you?
Ghost: YES! If you didn’t give your Mega Drive away, you could’ve gotten that console’s superior version! Also, if you weren’t so picky over how Kitana dresses, you could’ve gotten Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for that Saturn of yours!
yup, so there is a silver lining to wasting our money on bad racers.
The Ghost of the Money I Wasted on a game of my own was the campaigns for Crossfire X.
I'll save people the trouble of looking it up
'Company closure
The end of Entertech's short-lived success was due in part to incidents in which law enforcement officers shot and killed children toting toy guns, claiming to have mistaken them for actual firearms.[7] Toy guns were used in robberies of retail establishments and banks.[8][9] Amid these highly publicized incidents, Entertech voluntarily began manufacturing guns with blaze orange-colored caps in 1987, and began a line of less-realistic neon-colored guns later that year.'
TLDR, The toy guns looked like real guns and sold in the USA, you can use your imagination as to what can happen.
@@ruekurei88 yeeeeeeeesh.
Could this be a larger chapter of an overarching story about the money ghosts attempting to actually make Shane and Adam stop the Just Bad Games series?? One ghost tried in the Dog Football episode. Is that perhaps a taste of what's to come??

With the infinite reverse speed glitch in Big Rigs it's funny (and a bit sad) that developers nowadays STILL forget to implement "negative caps". Trackmania 2 hilariously had a very similar glitch where Nadeo while implementing a maximum reverse acceleration forgot to put in a reverse speed CAP. Meaning if you had enough space to reverse and the right skills to steer you could beat some tracks fast driving in REVERSE.

I know, imagine if it were a race series built into Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport with all the cars included.. now that would be cool
Yeah, this game really is a totally missed opportunity - the premise has its charm, and the graphics are decent. Such a shame that they messed the gameplay up that badly. Imagine a Grand Prix Legends level game with that premise, that certainly would be awesome.
@@nthgthMaybe if it was like GT4 it could have some crazy obscure/cool cars like the Buick Y Job or Phantom Corsair ( i know those aren't really considered race cars but if i made this game today i would add some stuff like those 2 anyways )
37:41 love the comedic timing of pointing out an error in the game when you say "ashphalt" (never heard of ashphalt before). Excellent video for a collection of games! Love your content and knowledge in these videos
Actually, the PC version of Spirit of Speed was published by MicroProse. LJN was acquired by Acclaim Entertainment, who basically used them and other labels to crank out multiple titles. Acclaim was still active at that point, so chances are they used LJN as a shell label because they didn't want their name attached to that game, of all things.
I was about to make the same comment. I'm sure LJN had technically closed their offices for a couple years by the time this game came out, so it was an "LJN game" in name only
LJN and Acclaim deserve each other.Awful companies with awful track records
Wow thats kinda nuts considering their history wit bad snes and nes games lol
@@cyberprime9355 At least Acclaim made some decent games
@@QF_Dan72 but their advertising was terrible
I bought a bunch of SNES games from a friend who was saving up for a N64. Just a whole big box of games, some were good, and then... there was Race Drivin'. So glad you mentioned it here, it definitely belongs here!
Definitely.
Nice one also when you were talking about big rigs when you said about the gravity stuff I remembered wipeout it was the good anti gravity ships so yeah
fav quote:"AI with the mental fortitude of a box of cornflakes"
I loved the intro! A wonderful mix of moody atmosphere and comedy, not to mention the amazing segue into the actual video. I have a good feeling about this episode!
They always outdo themselves, I love these guys
the money ghosts are awesome
@@QF_Dan72 I wish I could go back in time and buy a Money Ghost plush. They’re adorable little rascals!
I love the aesthetic of the Yaris game. Makes me feel so oddly happy
It was hot 🔥 back in the day
I know, right? Like out of all of the games in the video, that one would be the one I'd play if I was held at gunpoint
As a Paranormal investigator I can attest this is 100% true about the ghosts of wasted money....
...I have many
Spirit of Speed 1937 gave me Mafia flashbacks. That race was very difficult for no reason.
At least Mafia is well made unlike SoS which was the last hurray (more like crap) of LJN
@@androidps1440 It was well made, I just don't like that racing part that much.
Very interesting! Thank you for this.
I barely knew any of this so thank you. Very interesting.
I play Forza Horizon 4 and own a heavily modified Auto Union Type D in the game, and, honestly, it is a handful to drive.
@@wendigockel They could’ve easily just made it more arcade, like say in the Forza Horizon series.
@@wendigockel Okay fair enough.
Someone on reddit found that the highest speed possible in Big Rigs is 12.3 undecillion MPH.
Which is, yknow, a wee bit quick.
@@zyzzy-ko4wwSo, Big Rigs would allow for time travel? Interesting...
38:50 the phrase
“YOU’RE
WINNER !”
is so funny to me
As someone who drives an 07 Yaris. I died when you complained about the speedometer. You get used to it pretty fast lmao.
Ah yes, Big Rigs… I remember seeing Yogscast play it.
“…Can you tell me what’s wrong with reversing?”
“What’s wrong with reversing?”
*tries it*
“Pfft, hah, fuck’s sake… it’s faster than going forwards? …Oh my God. Oh my God! OH MY GOD! WHAAAAAT?!”
“It’s not about car, it’s about the driver.” Dominic Toretto
The ghost story plot was awesome guys. Keep up the great work.
Fun fact about Yaris, or at least the car: the Yaris is also known as the Vitz in japan and Europe. Vitz ironically translates to "joke" in german!
so Spirit of Speed 1937 is basically an entire game of that one infamously hated mission("Fair Play") in the first Mafia game? swell.
I really hope the 'choking baloon rat' make others appearances in future videos, it made me sincerly laugh!
Just Bad just went through Dante’s Inferno with all of these games. I’m glad you went through this torture so that we don’t have to. I would love to hear you guy revisit Stadia after their announcement of shutting down.
Of course, we all remember that Steve Jobs and his company took what they learned from how bad Donkey was to become paragons of computer based gami*SNRK!*
Can we just talk about that IBM advertisement that shows Donkey running on the system? The guy _clearly_ uses the Enter key to interact with Donkey when the screen _clearly_ tells you to "press Space bar"! It's just one button and you can't even get _that_ right, it's the biggest button on the damn keyboard!
33:16 This would make a good ringtone. Again, great reporting on these games. I do like that you do acknowledge when the game was released and certain limitations of that time still made the game good for example Race Drivin Arcade Edition.
I lost it at the rat choking on the balloon 🤣
The ability to take everything you guys been doing and put it into something like this is a credit to the talent. Excellent episode 👏🏾👏🏾 This channel is a reason I pay for premium YT
Just use the AdBlock extension. I haven't seen an ad on youTube in over 10 years.
@@ScottWozniak stop impressonsting people
Ah Sergey Titov.
Fun fact: the version of Big Riggs you played is the patched version. In the original release, the CPU-controlled truck didn't move at all.
That entire Spirit of Speed section seems like a big ol case of “skill issue” tbh. Every complaint is literally just from a lack of understanding how such racing games are played, outside of the “bouncing wall” and “no signage on the road to announce corners”
You can’t just full throttle through corners. You understeer that way. That’s realistic. Cars breaking down during a race gives you a yellow flag indicating there’s danger. That’s realistic. Etc
For real
I play many sim racers and i would tell you SoS 1937 is not worth your time
No matter how much you drive carefully it still handle like crap and the physics are crap too Mafia Racing Mode is leagues ahead of this crappy game in terms of races of that era
You killed me with the Ballon addicted Rat 🤣🤣
The Ghosts are Perfection.
The concept of a racing game with only pre-WW2 era race cars is fantastic.
P.S. 29:29 That is not a Dune Buggy nor a Sand-Rail, that's a SXS
Yeah it will be really interessing to see someone try the concept of early racing time.
@@somik-i3x People are already doing it, it’s called Assetto Corsa mods.
@@brawler5760 Modders have been doing that on earlier PC sims already, F1C and rFactor for example. There actually are 1937 mods even.
Specifically, a Can-Am Maverick X.
Ahhhhh, glad this episode was made. I remember hearing about the LJN game on the Dreamcast but I could never remember what it was called.
Also, seeing Donkey makes me really happy to be born in 1995 and raised on a Genesis and SNES.
Me too miss those consoles.😂
some rectification about Spirit of Speed 1937 and LJN:
- LJN was dissolved in 1994
- Acclaim Entertainment (who had bought LJN in 1990) was the true publisher of the game; they just decided to release it under the LJN name, probably cause they too thought the game was so ass; this game may still count as the final LJN game
- the PC version was published by MicroProse (a label of Hasbro Interactive) exclusively in Europe
This is such a good format. There must be tons of games out there that are worth showing but may not have a whole episode's worth of things to say.
Next up, Rerez's full review of the actual Yaris
