The PSP doesn't suck! It's got a great library with lots of fun games. It happened to go up against one of the most successful portable consoles ever at the time with the DS.
My brother had one as a teen (I was a young girl). He brought it every where and loved it. He gave me his old DS when he got his PSP.... So I was pretty happy too.
@@rerez It's also regularly labeled as a "failure" by a lot of younger folks which is nonsense considering It sold over 80 million units. That's just a few million shy of the 360 and the PS3 and more than the 3DS. Yet because it happened to be up against the DS it will forever be seen by many as a flop. If you were old enough to remember the mid 2000's clearly, the PSP was huge for a solid 3-4 years.
Honestly, my problem with the game wasn’t memorizing how to do the combat moves, it was getting the one I wanted that was difficult. The fact that there are three kinds of punches makes it easy to do the wrong one and get hit. My strategy for this game was just whip everyone and hope for the best.
Indeed. It's a bit annoying how they keep saying they hate motion controls as if they were inherently a bad thing, when the problem is that they're just poorly implemented.
Red Steel 2 and Skyward Sword are also games with well implemented motion controls, although in those two, the controls are much more extensive than something like Wii Sports. Motion controls are only bad went they are poorly implemented (the first Red Steel and Major Minor's Majestic March) or slapped onto a game and given no care (Pitfall the Big Adventure one of the most egregious examples).
Motion controls, we thought they were the future but after we played them we realized they were the worst idea since Abraham Lincoln said "I'm tired of kicking around the house let's go see a play".
Haha, but yeah motion controls can be done well, or it can be overused like shovelware. When done well they add another dimension to the game. When done poorly they just make for a frustrating experience.
Motion controls can work, as long as it's kept simple. Skyward used motion controls perfectly, having only a few simple motions but it uses motion plus to allow for more immersion
I played this game as a kid (I think around 10-12 years old). I never had any issues with the controls at all. I loved playing this over and over again
I had this game as a kid and I probably spent more time and had more fun playing the Fate Of Atlantis bonus game (mentioned in the video) than the main game, kind of embarrassing.
Yeah I enjoying the main game well enough, but feeling the motion controls were a bit much in places. I got stuck on one puzzle and just started playing Fate of Atlantis and never went back.
Y4123 i had psp version, thing is after i bought the game from the store, I accidently left the case in the mall, So sad oh well at least i had the game
About the only good thing in this game is the full Fate of Atlantis game being a bonus feature. Hell I'd actually reccomend people interested in classic point and clicks to buy Staff of Kings just to experience Fate of Atlantis.
This is why I rented the game, and played through Fate of Atlantis. I really wished they just released a SCUMM engine collection. From "Loom" to "Day of the Tentical".
I had this on the wii, and enjoyed it, and didn't think the motion controls were that bad, probably because the Wii was the console I played the most as a kid.
The mobile versions of this were actually fairly decent. Nowhere near the best Indiana Jones game (that's still Fate Of Atlantis, natch), but alright brawlers. edit: Lol, I should finish videos before commenting :D
Motion controls can be good. They should be used only when they make sense, like pulling a drawer open or aiming an arrow. But there should also be an option to just press a button or move the stick. Some developers are getting it right on switch.
What's really funny is that three Indiana Jones games were released on Wii, specifically this game and two Lego games, and yet this game still isn't even one of the top three ways to play as Indiana Jones on Wii. Because Indie cameos in Lego Star Wars this game is bumped down to number four, heck if you count the Fate of Atlantis port this game has then it would technically be number five. Seriously there were only three runners in the race and yet this game still couldn't get a bronze medal.
And it'll apparently remain that way, until the end of time. Seeing as how the last 2 "movies" ruined this franchise so badly, they're not even considered movies, but bad spin-offs that are non-canon. Which I'm fine with, because I haven't ever seen ANY of the Indiana Jones movies in my life.
It's rather impressive Indy was able to find the staff Moses used to part the Red Sea. Especially since, last I checked, it was in the Ark of the Covenant.
Was the fifth Indy movie really THAT bad? Or was Crystal Skull just the regular type of bad? Because I've never seen any of the Indiana Jones movies before. Sorry.

I mean the idea of mimicking the actions Indy is doing does seem like a good way of making the game more immersive on paper, but developers of immersive motion-controlled games always fail to consider the physical limitations of the human body......
You know I thought the point of using motion controls was so it felt second nature and you didn’t need to memorize many button combos for fighting. Explaining those motion controls in a 10 minute tutorial seems to be missing the point.
The game is frustratingly mediocre on PS2 regardless. Motion controls didn't make the game worse, but it certainly doesn't make the game any more special.
I remember being so excited when my mom bought this for me when I was a kid only to hate the game because of all the error you folks are talking about it.
I think motion controls go by a case by case basis, there are some games that have great motion controls (like ARMS and Splatoon) and some games (Steel battalion heavy armor and minute to win it) that have horrible motion controls.
Fun bit of trivia: The developer, A2M, would later become known as Behavior Interactive, the creators of popular multi-player horror game Dead by Daylight.
Ah man! I remember playing this back in the day and genuinely having fun with it! I don't remember having too many issues with it either. There was one puzzle section towards the end of Panama that really had me stumped. But I do remember having a lot of fun. It really did make me feel like Indy! I think I remember picking it up over the PS2 version because of the motion controls! 😂😂 I've been looking into playing it again, but just haven't done it yet. My sister and I even played some of the co-op sections which were fun too! I never did dive into Fate of Atlantis very far. I almost 100% completed the game too. One of the collectables was glitched and I couldn't get the Han Solo skin. It was a lot of fun back then. Good times.
Motion control. The whole reason I avoid the Wii like the plague. I play videogame tennis so I don't have to actually swing the racket. Not to have to actually swing something like a racket that isn't.
The funny thing about the airplane section of the first part of the game? Wii Sports Resort has the same kind of controls, but you can also shoot balloons after exploring the island to get enough "i" (information) points, which gives incentive to play; when crashing into the ground, obstacles, etc..., you just respawn in the air near the area without penalty. Plus, not only is the nunchuck not even required, but the motion controls ACTUALLY WORK WELL ANYWAY! (Then again, while both of these games were published in 2009, I have no clue when the Indy game here came out: before or after the Motion Plus accessory's release?) What I'm trying to say is that the airplane in Indiana Jones here should have just stuck to the nunchuck since it's already connected to the Wii Remote anyway. That would have saved some of the rage
The only games I enjoyed on the Wii that used motion controls were Prime 3, Okami, and Skyward Sword. None of the rest seemed to get it right. Thanks god Nintendo moved away from motion controls.
