one thing I read this morning actually was before the movie was even released, a lot of people left 1 star reviews because there is an LGBTQ character 🙄
Chloe is actually relatively new to the industry especially to the big budget arena. Her style was effective in Nomadland which only focused to one character (and the character is literally in every scene). Let's give her grace period for adjustment.
Eternals is a beautiful film, and not just visually in ways I've never witnessed, but thematically and emotionally. Many who were underwhelmed grudgingly applauded its visual sophistication, declaring by loud lack of praise that the stunning spectacle is merely an intricate veneer over a hollow shell. But style can have substance when it reflects what resides within. It has been described as "dense", but I'd say it's more like a wholemeal cake compared to a sugar rush like Ragnarok. Unlike too many MCU movies afraid of committing to sincerity, it doesn't undermine its own drama with levity or dispel immersion with self-aware irreverence. It is bold, far-seeing and heartfelt. It's not a "mess"; it's simply structured differently in order to tell the kind of story that it is. It has been accused of trying to be epic and falling short of this ambition, but although it is flawed like the humans it strives to protect, at times it lived up to its grand premise in the culmination of expansive arcs, the grace of its motion and the gentleness of its sentiment. It moved me to quiet tears in its more intimate moments, when characters clashed, parted or rediscovered that they were still connected. But my expectations were tempered, and, in the middle, interwoven strands of story started to loosen, albeit before cohering again. I had to reach for some plot points to make enough sense. So while I understand certain criticisms, the hate for it is undeserved and quite frankly baffling, and implies mainstream audiences' inability to appreciate a slower pace, a weaving narrative of multiple fine threads, restrained dialogue with depth, and subtle storytelling that hints at larger, unspoken significance. It offers a broad, distilled commentary on humanity, and touches on the ultimate moral dilemma; what good is a world where atrocities must be committed to save it? It takes itself seriously but not in a heavy sense. People are indignant that it doesn't "fit" with the rest of the MCU, but while it doesn't directly relate to prior events and stands in its own steady presence, it runs parallel to an increasingly branching timeline, instead of running relay with an ongoing narrative tripping over itself to glimpse what is coming next. It views the universe from a more distant although not detached position, so it can have its own tone and scope without being constrained by what came before or what it might feel under pressure to promise. It has been derided as relying once again on the superhero filmmaking formula, but when you strip back any hero's journey to its bare bones it appears unremarkable from the rest. Twists aside, the plot may be simple in essence, but its detail and depth is visible in the performances of good actors emotionally invested in their characters, and its nuances create a texture that a less discerning eye might miss. It's not just about what happens but how you get there. And as for the diverse cast of characters (the reason for so much review bombing), Eternals is a perfect example of representation as an integral part of the story. By their very nature, their presence on earth represents all of humanity - all ethnicities, genders, sexualities, personalities, abilities - and so yes, you have a deaf character and a black gay character with a family. Representation done right IS storytelling, and there is nothing "forced" about it. It's sad that the divisive response may result in a backtracking of artistic vision and a distrust of creative innovation, or an abandonment of emerging characters with a unique, overarching, yet still very human perspective. It is tenderly epic, as though the dizzying span of millennia only emphasises the eternal nature of the smaller, more intimate aspects of existence. An immortal life is as fragile as a mortal amidst infinity, against the tides of forever.
My thoughts exactly. It was a brilliant movie, the backwards and forwards in the timeline were so refreshing from the linear path of almost every other mcu project. The characters were very interesting, the way that their relationships were explored. The Tinkerbell analogy was so sad, Gilgamesh and Thena were two of the few purely platonic m/f pairs in movies, he truly cared for her as a friend, and none of them expected anything out of it. Thena's condition was heartbreaking, somebody crumbling from the sole weight of their memories. And the Ikaris plotline was very refreshing as well. A twist done right. Kingo not willing to hurt his friends, Phastos believing in humanity again because of his family. The way it questioned power and humanity with Druig and Ajak. It was a brilliant movie and I hope they don't let the mindless critics change its style.

Even Ikaris and the weird evolved Deviant creature had understandable motivations and I didn't come off the movie feeling satisfied that they got what their deserved or anything. Maybe Arishel? But again, the sacrifice of one planet with sentient life so multiple other planets with sentient life can be born is a typical trolley problem where there is no right answer and it's much more interesting how people rationalize their decisions. I felt similar about the negative characters in the movie too... they weren't evil per se they just came to different conclusions looking at the same problem as the heroes would. (I even liked that there was an option of not making a stand, as Klingo did not want to choose between his family and what he morally perceived as the right thing to do and that was not taken as a wrong call in the movie.)

Can not wait for more Black Night in the MCU!!! Great character and even greater casting!
Lol it’s Black Knight
Gilgamesh is still a husband in this movie. A househusband to be specific 😆
That totally melted my heart
Angelina did a great job with the weapon switch scenes.
Richard Madden flying past the doc Martin store, meanwhile Jack Saunder's in there saying" I want all of them" xD
"Thanus" I know what you did there.🤭👀
All four us were amazed after the movie. Wonderful!
Fight sequences in Eternals are sooooo good. Like way better than Thor Ragnarok imo.
Loved this movie so much… watched it twice already (very rarely do that)!
Christ sake, during the 2nd half of the interview, I kept trying to clean that spot above the interviewers head thinking it's my screen's dirt.
Will Sersi tell Dane to bend the knee? Thrones fans, you get me.
omg I love Gemma's top!! I need that
i like how Kit got alot of spotlight despite him being only "a teacher/historian at a private school"
sure you are mate, sure
Gemma is love😍
so happy seeing kit as a marvel superhero T.T
that wow from Drax was priceless lmao
Kit is just so funny
The movie was great and all.
It's the accents that can steal our hearts.
Richard, closely followed by Barry, Kit, Don, and Kumail.
(I'll let Selma in as well out of respect).
Salma is so cute
Hah! Yes! I love that they really tried to include everyone in this movie especially it is a superhero one which is 1st. Bravo to Marvel for that! He got famous from Train to Busan and he is great in so many movies. Her son prob knows and loves him too.
Gemma is so graceful 😭💕
ETERNALS IS A MASTERPIECE. if you're looking for the brainless pew pew pew guns blazing, action all the time then this is not it. If you care about story building, character development and beautiful cinematography, not to mention a killer score and soundtrack, with a director who brought depth to the MCU THEN THIS IS IT. cannot wait for more movies!!!
Anyone else remembered Jemma Simmons (AOS) every time they called Gemma Chan as "Gemma"??
i miss her sm
Saw the movie today and loved it! I really don't understand why people hated it!!! I'm afraid Marvel doesn't make the sequel because of the bad reviews!!
I want the rest of the story so bad...
Love Gemma! She needs bigger roles, maybe a romanic drama with Matthias Schoenaerts!!!
Oddly specific but would be excellent
@@TheBrandiElizabeth Haha! Yeah, just finished watching the movie Suite Francaise with Matthis and thought that movie was great love story. Matthais seems like he would pair well with Gemma.
I really loved this movie and the cast
There’s this weird black dirt on Ali’s wall in the interview with Angelina and I thought it was something stuck on my screen
Angelina looks beautiful and amazing. Getting an invite to her party- hm. Yea you've got to be part of the cool kids club for sure, lol
Kits comment bout Richard is bout right 😂😂 bout how it was in game of thrones .
NO WAY FIRST PERSON IVE HEARD TO SAY ANT MAN IS THEIR FAV MARVEL MOVIE CUS ME TOO
Angelina Jolie while looking at Ma Dong Seok 😍
I love Angelina actually pointing out some of the flaws in the movie. It's a beautiful movie but the character development was very very poor which is not on brand for marvel movies. I still believe it could turn into a cult classic but we're going to have to see.
Kit was about to say im not watching for long tho 😂😂
