    Great instructional video! Should mention when you rotate the tube make sure the previous tacks aren't on the contact points for the angle iron. Love the instructional videos. Wish I could hear the jokes a little better.

    Running a big Rigid pipe cutter around the tube a few times gives a perfect score line to follow with a porta band. I picked up a 4” pipe cutter at the pawn shop for $75 years ago. It’s earned it’s keep a hundred times

      Me neither and I work pretty much 6 days a week with 3" and 5" grinders for the last 30 years. No gard and rarely safety goggles and I never had a face shield. On the other hand a friend of mine has a beard now that he got half of a 5" wheel stuck in his lower jaw.

    If you have a spare 1/2"x 13 nut use can use it on the c-clamp that has lost it's foot.

    Hi. Good Video. Thanks. You could have cut a couple holes in the angle iron and welded the tacks on the other side as well and you would have it all tacked all at once.

    What was the reason you did not sleeve the axle tubes, I would think it's structural and with airbag hopping or hydraulic hopping of the car or truck I would think it could crack.

    • @rollin19
      @rollin19 9 місяців тому +1

      The weld look really good but It doesn't matter to me because I wouldn't do it.
      I sure wouldnt trust anyone butt welding the axle tube of a rear end.
      Im with you on that one!!

    • @the.unhappy.mechanic
      @the.unhappy.mechanic 9 місяців тому +1

      @hitlow1985 in my point of view it should have been drilled out at the diff side where the factory welded it. And cut down, But if one is to butt weld an axle tube the outside should have all the mounts shaved off and sleeved from the outside as not to lose oil flow to the bearings and new mounts made to be welded to the sleeve. As if the sleeve is done in 2 pieces and throughly welded, and would make a great mounting point for either leafspring or a 4 link or even latterbars. As you could weld the sleeve full length .

    • @LocoCustoms
      @LocoCustoms  9 місяців тому +1

      I love the feedback and opinions! I agree with you guys on the sleeve, it could be a great mounting point. This is the way I did this one, and i'm fully confident in the welds. We do structural steel and get our welds x-rayed frequently. Definitely more than one way to skin a cat

    • @the.unhappy.mechanic
      @the.unhappy.mechanic 9 місяців тому +1

      @LocoCustoms glad to hear you x-rayed it., you know the dimples on each side of the diff, that's actually the main weld at the factory. There is another one on the opposite side of it as well, I found if you drill those out, the axle tube can be heated and removed, then you just cutdown the tube on that end. In the 1990's currie axle showed me how they did it. Back when they used to buy the axle housings at the salvage yards., now they just make the whole thing. But the principle still works on hotrodding.

      @@LocoCustoms You guy got the right idea with with leveling it with angle iron and making the mark to line it up.
      I went to school to learn how to do welding but it was auto body but when I learned how to weld on a frame I watch a bunch of videos and they explain why they cut the patch the way they did and I did my first frame repair.
      I had very little exprience welding frame steel but have welding a bunch of times over a 20 year period.
      I wouldnt doubt an exprienced welder but it's a matter of welding it to last a long time.
      For example welding in a angled cut peice of 1/8" steel on a frame that crack at a weak point,rather than just welding the crack you can patch it so that spot is not gonna crack again.
      Just like anything elese we are always learning and finding out what work best,the more info we can gather to better off our work will be.
