Most of theorized that the switch happened during the Beyond Good and Evil arc. Quick recap, Apocalypse wanted to destroy time and re-create reality in his image. In order to do so he kidnapped a bunch of psychics. Sinister was in charge of capturing Jean because Apocalypse promised him that he would help him create the ultimate mutant. Sinister most likely knew that Jean would die from the process so he created a clone. That way if the clone died, he would still have Jean to conduct his twisted experiments. Also, in the shows original final season when the animation changed, Jean no longer was wearing her hair in a ponytail.
Madelyn Pryor was not there the whole time. It’s been less than a year & and half, two years tops since Sinister cloned Jean. Sinister has been in Scott’s life since he was a child. Sinister’s experiments on Scott as a child is why he can’t control his optic blasts. Everything that has gone wrong with Scott’s life is basically Sinister’s doing. Sinister is old. Everyone else's response was basically Scott's in the comics but here she wasn't just a random woman she was their Jean which is more f'ed, yet Scott is still the bad guy.
@@jhayceionvalverde7173 but unlike the comics, he actually didn't abandon them and actively took part in their rescue attempt. That is his baby momma, and after he shot her while SHE WAS DOMINATING HIS TEAM, he couldn't stop himself from apologizing because he hurt her. and after she stopped hurting his team, and she turned her focus to him, he didn't even fight back. Unlike the rest of the xmen, Logan included, He went to her after she ran off, he went to get her and the baby. He doesn't even know when the switch happened. Neither of the Jeans know either. they don't even know who married him.
Cool reaction guys. Understanding the history of Scott Summers is crucial to understanding why he acted the way he did. I'll try and break it down to the most important bits. He was abandoned as a child when his parents were abducted by extraterrestrials whilst they were flying a private plane leaving him as a young boy and his baby brother inside. The plane went into freefall and the trauma activated Scott's powers for the first time. He somehow managed to save both himself and his brother but suffered a head injury which is why he can't fully control his powers. He they got separated from his brother and eventually put into the foster care system where he suffered abuse, made even worse by him being a mutant. Then Prof X found him. Mr Sinister has messed with Scott for a long time by this point because his genes are unique and are virtually a perfect building block for Omega class mutants. His reaction was messy but human. He should have seen his son off, but he knew that he probably would have tried to stop them if he was there. Scott is a complex character and I'm glad they are delving into it.
In the comics, Apocalypse is the one who infected the baby with the virus. Sinister wanted Scott and Jean's DNA to create a mutant strong enough to kill Apocalypse. Apocalypse figured it out and infected the baby to prevent that from happening. Cable survived but his powers were always heavily nerfed because of the virus.
Alot of us were curious about how this would play out. Cuss comic wise Jean was dead for a bit and Scott moved on and had a child with Madeline and it was later revealed to be a jean clone (don't remember if that was a retcon or bad writing) anyway scott leaves his kid and madeline to rejoin the xmen , then jeans returns then madeline goes evil etc, etc. Honestly prefer this version that doesn't make scott look like a crap father
Chris Claremont wanted Jean dead permanently but the higher ups brought her back, so he had to make up inferno, and Madelyn being a clone. He wasn't happy about it.
The fantastic 4 found the real jean at the bottom of a lake, everyone thought she died but all they did was get rid of phoenix. In the comics he doesn't come back to the team until he finds out jean was alive. Once he found that out he literally left and then Madelyn went crazy and started doing things with havoc...
In the comics he stayed with Madelyn until he found out real jean was alive then he left her and the baby. The fantastic 4 are the ones that found her at the bottom of a lake. Then Madelyn went crazy because of all of it and got with havoc Scott's bro..
This adaptation of the Madeline Pryor/Goblin Queen story arc is honestly FAR better than in the comics. Originally Madeline broke bad not because of Sinister’s influence, but from Scott abandoning her for the real Jean. Which made Scott look horrible because while Madeline is a clone she’s still the mother of his child and their feelings for each other were in fact real. And I loved that in the end Madeline was freed of Sinister’s control and will now live her own life free to do what she wants. It was also a great idea to have their memories merge so that no one knows who was who during when. Also I loved her costume redesign. Instead of looking like it was designed by a horny teenage boy she looks like an actual witch. And I’m still surprised that the animators made the nightmare scenes look like if Guillermo Del Toro did a remake of The Thing.
I don't get how Scott is still the bad guy here. In the comics, he definitely was but here everyone does the exact same thing as him in the comics but instead of a random woman it's literally Jean Grey. How is he the bad guy here? Logan still obsessed over that jean and she was still part of the x men team for however long and they all abandoned her instantly while Scott was actually distraught. He was orphaned, he doesn't want to be the dad that watches his son leave him then immediately turn around and go on with his life. No one on the team was there for Madelyn either as well.
@@AzulApeBeing a clone doesn't stop her from being an actual person with real feelings they shared and had a real child together. The X-Men/Marvel universe is full of way crazier stuff than clones, even other X-Men that are clones and/or science experiments. (X-23 anyone?) It basically completely undermines the entire message of the X-Men to suggest that the circumstances of someone's birth invalidates their existence. There's just no scenario where his actions were okay in the comics and they were at least questionable here.
Magneto never stood a chance against Madelyn Pryor. Just to give you a glimpse of how powerful Jean is, her clone is weaker than she is and yet she was strong enough to easily beat Magneto. Jean is the Saitama of the X-Men.
Sadly over the years she's been powered down..I believe Emma frost, the cuckoos, Xavier and exodus because the top. I am not sure if they fixed that yet though
No jean hasn't been a clone the entire time She's been with Scott. They two have known and been together since childhood. Jean was most likely replaced when her and Scott arrived on Sinisters island.
Goblin Queen makes a little more sense in the original comic story. Instead of hitting everyone with psychic nightmares she actually took over Limbo and brought Demon armies to earth (Big crossover event called Inferno)
When it came to the Phoenix saga in the og series that's around the time where Madeline Pryor came in and so everything b4 that was the actual Jean grey within the x men 90s continuity
Scott is an orphan and is obviously going to be conflicted with letting his son go. It’s amazing how some people can’t see things from his point of view. He had the love of his life taken from him and was basically graped by a science experiment. Who is gonna be acting calm and collected in this situation?
People forget how privileged they are once they start hearing other people's stories. Some got a chance to be raised by 2 successful parents some don't, some lost their parents at a young age and are classified as orphans. Some don't have a roof to live under. We as humans just forget that alot of us are lucky and that's the sad part. Cyclops is an orphan himself and assumed his father died and it turns out that didn't happen. Being a mutant didn't help either when it's comes to being accepted. Cyclops just wants to be a better father/family man but he can't. At least until him and Jean maybe have another kid. The women you had feelings for is a clone is tough. Losing a father figure in Professor X. Yeah that sounds a bit too much for a man who has to lead a team. But that's my take.
There have been many comparison videos between the original series opening and this one's, and inevitably people commenting shit like "the old animation was so much better," probably kids that don't know better. I dare any of them to say that after watching this episode. I can't remember anything in the original that came close to looking as gorgeous as some shots in this episode.
*Ororo* : Hi Jean, it's so good to be back, I hope that I didn't miss anything while I was gone. BTW, where's Nathan? *Jean* : Well... right after you left, we found out that the Jean that was pregnant was actually a clone of me created by Mister Sinister; then he showed up, kidnapped Nathan, and infected Nathan with a techno-organic virus, to which we were forced to send him to the future to cure him. So anyway, what have you been up to? *Ororo* : ......
Y'all remember the ep in the original Animated Series where Jean and Scott got married and then she was snatched into that portal by Mr Sinister and his gang taken to that dimension yeah that was the true jean, she remained with Sinister that whole time and the Jean the team rescued was the clone
Explaining this again because so many people seem to either not know this or forgot it but Jean and Scott have been together for a LONG time, pretty much since they were teenagers or young adults like 19-20. Both Jean and Madelyn have been with Scott, Scott has been with them both, they got switched when they were adults and her Scott had already had a preestablished loving relationship, it's not like they never met the real Jean before they just don't know when, in the most recent years, did she get switched out. The only thing we DO know for sure is that Madelyn is Nathan's mother, so the clone has been with them for at least 9 months. Scott didn't switch up on Madelyn, he had every right to question who the real Jean was, along with everyone else, especially since this directly affects his family.
And as someone else pointed out, the fact that he thought he was sleeping with Jean but it was someone else literally means Madelyn raped him, even if unintentionally. He has every right to be upset.
in the comics, Goblin Queen is a clone of Jean that (long story short) becomes a ruler of Limbo (a sub dimension of Hell) so she’s a psychic and a demon sorceress
Reminded me of the times I use to watch the old X-men reruns as a kid. Oh and a new delinquent anime called Windbreaker came out today. Better than Tokyo revengers already.
I love seeing Mr Sinister again since he was always my favourite X-Men villain. Ngl Madelyne Pryer is FINE ASF!😍 I loved how trippy this episode got and the exploration into Jean's mind and the tragedy of Scott and Jean/aka Madelyne having to give up their kid to save him which is truly tragic as Scott cannot catch a break after finding out his wife is a clone and his son will die unless he's sent to the future.
People keep saying, "Even if she's a clone she's still the mother of his child", y'all aren't thinking this through to it's full implications! They don't know when the Jeans were switched, at all. He doesn't know if the woman he married is standing next to him or lying unconscious. For all he knows, Jean could've been replaced after she got pregnant, meaning the clone would be pregnant with someone else's kid, and that Scott's real child with the actual Jean could've either been miscarried, or out their in someone else's hands. There's so many implications the fact that the clone is a clone brings up that it makes sense every one freaking pauses. They don't know what's true or not about her, but they do know Beast's science is very advanced, and he wouldn't drop that on all of them unless he were certain. Hell, it's a credit to them they didn't try to lock her up or separate her from the kid until they knew for sure.
Come up looking like that, you _better_ be the Gobblin' Queen. (I've been making this joke on every reaction, FINALLY someone else on the same wavelength. I see you, Paul.)
Well with so many retcons in these comic books. You can narrow it down to when Mr. Sinister trapped the X-men when they first fought each other. Right after the Dark Phoenix saga when she died and he stole the body
@YaBoyRoshi So no this clone Jean aka Madelyn Pryor aka The Goblin Queen has not been their Jean thee entire time…only 9 months or more prior to episode 1 of this new reboot season of the OG series was she replaced. They have left it vague on purpose to at what point was Jean switched but it could have been any of the various times Jean was kidnapped in the OG series or perhaps it happened sometime after the end of the OG series but still 9 months prior to the start of this new rebooted season.
So you're telling me that if you found out Rosh was cloned and replaced the man you love you would be loyal to the clone Sheera?? You wouldn't be furious that this clone replaced your real man, slept with you, and you get pregnant by him? You would be calling that clone every name in the book but "Roshi" and might put a knife in him too for good measure. Yoooo, it is crazy how women will defend other women even when it makes no sense.
Again fun fact jean hasnt been jean since the end of the dark phoenix saga and maybe even before. The phoenix took on her appearance and put the real jean to heal in a cocoon...she was actually found at the bottom of a lake by the fantastic 4..

He actually didn't want to abandon his son like he was with everyone else in the room dead set on it, he doesn't want to be the man that watches his child leave and move on with his life like it never happened. No one else was there for Madelyn either. Everyone else's response was basically Scott's in the comics but here she wasn't just a random woman she was their Jean which is more f'ed, yet Scott is still the bad guy.
Shut up lol not you with the spoilers. Also it’s confirmed that WE DONT know when they were switched you mongol
Also in the comics Mister Sinister is the reason why Gambit who is Omega level like Jean, Prof X and Storm levels got nerfed before joining the team
Damn they ain't giving this man Scott no sympathy 😂

but unlike the comics, he actually didn't abandon them and actively took part in their rescue attempt.
@@jhayceionvalverde7173 I'd love to see ho you would handle all that Scott did in a couple of hours ,while still holding it down
He gotta take the licks along with the praise! They're three-dimensional characters that mess up sometimes, but that's ok, we still love 'em!
And he ironically is the cause of the virus infecting him when he accidentally infected -•A•-
Also isn't the nerf because half of the power is actually focused on suppressing the virus?
@@x0gucxye
I'm glad we're getting Cable's origin story in this series

@@TheShadowcat6969 exactly
@@x0gucx how would you feel if it turned out one of the people you loved was actually a clone, one who was planted by one of your greatest enemies.
Nah, Cyclops isn’t obligated to care about a science project. I was fine with how he reacted.
@@Zeik56 actually being a clone is by definition not an actual person. No soul and clearly easy to corrupt. She wasn’t “born”, what are you on about?

Magneto never stood a chance against Madelyn Pryor. Just to give you a glimpse of how powerful Jean is, her clone is weaker than she is and yet she was strong enough to easily beat Magneto. Jean is the Saitama of the X-Men.
Saitama is a discount Silver Age Superman. There is literally no parallel to Jean Grey. 🤣
Here's the scary part. That was her without the Phoenix.
@@AzulApe When I said ‘’Saitama’’ I clearly meant how broken both of them are in their respective verses. Literally nobody in OPM can beat Saitama.

"Where did she get the scrunchy?" is the realest observation I've ever heard. 😅
Goblin Queen makes a little more sense in the original comic story. Instead of hitting everyone with psychic nightmares she actually took over Limbo and brought Demon armies to earth (Big crossover event called Inferno)
🎵Cable's mom has got it going on🎵
When it came to the Phoenix saga in the og series that's around the time where Madeline Pryor came in and so everything b4 that was the actual Jean grey within the x men 90s continuity
Scott is an orphan and is obviously going to be conflicted with letting his son go. It’s amazing how some people can’t see things from his point of view. He had the love of his life taken from him and was basically graped by a science experiment. Who is gonna be acting calm and collected in this situation?
Some people unfortunately can only think one dimensionally. It's kinda sad if you think about it.
Exactly! Anyone hating on Scott for how he acted this episode is just being an ass.
The real Jane Grey was taken by Mr. Sinister at the end of the phoenix saga, when see like sacrifice herself to save the universe.
Sheeras' theatrics were hilarious 😂

*Ororo* : ......
i was so happy to see maddy animated here 🤣
Y'all remember the ep in the original Animated Series where Jean and Scott got married and then she was snatched into that portal by Mr Sinister and his gang taken to that dimension yeah that was the true jean, she remained with Sinister that whole time and the Jean the team rescued was the clone
That Magneto vs Madelyn fight was so Castlevania esque, loved it
"Boiling pot of science" is too damn funny. 😂😂
I'm sorry, Sheera, but if my wife turns into a psychopath... I'm still going to want to keep my son. 😅
in the comics, Goblin Queen is a clone of Jean that (long story short) becomes a ruler of Limbo (a sub dimension of Hell) so she’s a psychic and a demon sorceress
Glad they went comic accurate with Cable being the son of Jean's clone.
Reminded me of the times I use to watch the old X-men reruns as a kid. Oh and a new delinquent anime called Windbreaker came out today. Better than Tokyo revengers already.
Mr. Sinister and Madelyne Pryor STOLE THE MF SHOW!!! This is the Marvel imaginative writing and power display we want lol.

I love seeing Mr Sinister again since he was always my favourite X-Men villain. Ngl Madelyne Pryer is FINE ASF!😍
I loved how trippy this episode got and the exploration into Jean's mind and the tragedy of Scott and Jean/aka Madelyne having to give up their kid to save him which is truly tragic as Scott cannot catch a break after finding out his wife is a clone and his son will die unless he's sent to the future.
Her only memory worthy of a change of heart. I love the psychological complex story telling of the 90’s.
I forgot Jean got kidnapped like twice by Sinister in the old series.
Did anyone else catch it when Jean said 'BEAST PLEASE'🤣
Was not expecting a Cable origin story so soon. Guess that means we got some Apocalypse and X-Force action coming in the future.

Very good point
didn’t beast science prove the baby was the clone and scott son? so yes it was their baby but the rest of what you said is true
