This adaptation of the Madeline Pryor/Goblin Queen story arc is honestly FAR better than in the comics. Originally Madeline broke bad not because of Sinister’s influence, but from Scott abandoning her for the real Jean. Which made Scott look horrible because while Madeline is a clone she’s still the mother of his child and their feelings for each other were in fact real. And I loved that in the end Madeline was freed of Sinister’s control and will now live her own life free to do what she wants. It was also a great idea to have their memories merge so that no one knows who was who during when. Also I loved her costume redesign. Instead of looking like it was designed by a horny teenage boy she looks like an actual witch. And I’m still surprised that the animators made the nightmare scenes look like if Guillermo Del Toro did a remake of The Thing.
Yeah, comics Madelyne was someone he met that kinda looked like Jean. She was Madelyne from the beginning. She even stayed on with the X-men after Scott left with the First Class. This went head on that she’s a clone.
Except for the fact that the names 'Goblin Queen' and 'Madelyn Prior' just come out of nowhere, for no reason (well, the only reason being that they are the relevant names in the comics). That was kinda weird to me
LOTS of Anime influence. Spirited Away, Akira, a lot of Japanese body horror stuff. Also, the Goblin Queen transformation was basically a frame for frame Sailor Moon transformation sequence.
@@Jumpoable i feel the scene with the evil teddy bear in jean's and scotts room as well as the good jean coming down like an angel call back to scenes from the second tenchi movie manatsu no eve. so much so that the teddy bear scene is almost exactly the same.
Sinister's idea of a perfect mutant: immortal, invincible, powerful enough to control everything and everyone. Aaron's idea of a perfect mutant: hot redhead dom. The good news is, Aaron, your version actually exists somewhere! 😂
I do like how when this show was announced all the usual complainers were like "Wow this show is gonna suck, look they didn't draw Rogue to look hot! Woke media blah blah blah" and then episode 3 gave us one of the most seductively drawn characters in recent memory and nobody has complained since
to complain about a character in a children's cartoon not being objectified enough is crazy. rogue looks like a normal woman in x97, fanboys just latched onto one frame from 1992 and couldn't get over it. Madelyne's hot as hell, that's for sure
I mean they're still complaining. Crying about wokeness and politics. These idiots don't realise they'd be exactly the kind of people arguing against mutants
I enjoy how 90's this show is, but specifically aimed towards people who grew up across the 27 years between this and the original, so it can be far more mature and bonkers in a way that 100% would've been sent to the cutting room floor by 90's broadcast censors.
In the comics Sinister owned and ran the orphanage Scott lived in after his parents died and he abused and experimented on Scott for years. Sinister is obsessed with Scott and his family because he has Superior DNA meaning he has the perfectly pure mutant genes to create omega level mutants. Sinisters obsession also extends to Jean because with her being an Omega level mutant a child between the two would be unstoppable.
If you notice in the opening theme, the Jean Grey with the hair-down is actually Madeline Prior coz once she's out of the picture, Jean's hair will be tied again meaning that is the real Jean 😉
If you are not a X-Men comic book reader and or fan from the '80s and '90s, start taking notes on X-Men '97 from this episode forward and buckle up for a heck of a ride, The Summers Family Tree.
In the comics Apocalypse infected baby Nathan with the T-O virus to weaken and control him, he was sent to the future to control it and he uses his powers to restrain. That’s why he has a cybernetic arm and eye, they were fully transformed into technology. Ironically he went back in time and accidentally infected apocalypse with the same virus which is why Apocalypse has technomorphing powers so it’s a bit of a paradox.
20 years ago when original came out, you couldn’t show blood, you couldn’t mention the holocaust, and if you watch that old show along with the 90’s Spider-Man you show a lot of the action is mainly people just grappling and throwing others around. Now you get to see actual animated fights, you compared it to chainsaw man and the animators really took full control of what Disney and what modern television will allow them to do and as you can see it’s uncanny.
Aaron was right, Professor X is still in the outro part even when he was removed and Magento was added. As long as her name part was removed, he called it. Team Aaron.
whats amazing is that they took 10 months worth of comic storyline and condensed it in to a half hour episode and managed to do it better than the highly acclaimed comic storyline it came from. that is just amazing!
This show is to say the least spectacular. The Goblin Queen can really move after just giving birthing a baby. There's like at least 3 storylines but never feels rushed or out of place.
In the comics, sometime prior to the Phoenix saga Sinister managed to gain a sample of The Grey's DNA. When the original Phoenix committed suicide, Scott believed he had lost Jean forever, unaware that the real Jean Grey lay in suspended animation in a pod at the bottom of the sea (later to be discovered by the Avengers). When Phoenix "died", its share of the real Jean's consciousness traveled back to Earth. This part of Jean's psyche eventually reached the clone that Sinister had created and endowed it with consciousness for the first time. When the real Jean returned, Cyclops rushed to her side. Madelyne's own psi powers began to emerge, and she took refuge with the X-Men. But then the demon N'astirh sent her dreams which aroused the dark side of her psyche. Her powers fully awakened, Madelyne became the Goblyn Queen and attempted to take revenge on Cyclops by sacrificing their son. Instead, Madelyne perished in combat with the original Jean. Intent on destroying the X-Men along with herself, the Goblyn Queen unleashed a tremendous psychic force. But the X-Men and X-Factor shielded themselves, and Pryor became the only victim. In one last attempt to kill Jean, the dying Pryor linked their minds together. Jean survived, and the portion of Jean's psyche which had been stolen by the Phoenix Force and had awakened Madelyne, finally returned to Jean.
There's a lot in the ep and I kinda wish it (and a few others this season) were a two-parter just to give everything the space it needed to breathe fully. It works as is but could be more
Avoiding, but maybe light spoilers from the old series... The techno organic virus was a plot from the old show too. Bishop came back to the 90's to stop it from decimating the Mutant population, but then we had to do ghe episode again when Cable had to travel back to stop Bishop because without mutants getting infected they couldn't develop a vaccine to protect mutants later on ... They compromised by making sure only Wolverine got infected because he would heal but still get anti-bodies ... Because Comic plots. 😆
If I ever start become the leader of a Super Team I am putting Pokemon: The First Movie as mandatory viewing. "The circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant, it is what one does with the gift of life that makes you who you are." If they would see clones as PEOPLE (or victims) so many issues can be avoided.
as much as I like Bishop ... couldn't have Cyclops just used his power instead of powering Bishop up? I see how it would be a good strat in some cases, but ...
