In India, we use unflavored yogurt on hair (sometimes with a few drops of lemon juice) before shampooing the hair. Put it on scalp and on the length of hair for 15-20 mins and then wash it off. It reduces dandruff and conditions the hair as well.
Edit : Also your hair and scalp should be exposed to the sun everyday for at least 10-15 mins.

My wife had bad dandruff that didn't want to go away. Every dermatologist she goes to see they all told her there is no cure for it. We came across Dr. Berg's videos and we started Keto diet. 2.5 months later her dandruff is gone with no medication. Also, we're doing intermittent fasting. We're both down 30lbs and my blood pressure is down 30 points. It's like a miracle.

Ok, time to chime in here. How I CURED my dandruff. Had it since HS. (Probably sooner.) Usually some over the counter anti dandruff shampoo a few times a week kept it in check, mostly. Several years ago it got bad. Chunks coming off my scalp. I tried EVERY product on the market. I tried some over the counter things like soaking your head in listerine, tried rinsing with apple cider vinegar, even tried coal tar shampoos. NOTHING worked. Went to a dermatologist who took a three second look, said "Scalp psoriasis, no known cause, no known cure" charged me over 200 bucks, gave me a prescription for some expensive drops to stop itching and have a nice day.
Yea well.... I had recently started reading up on all the crap in our foods. So decided to look up soap. OH MY GOD! Soaps are even LESS regulated than our food and just about every chemical in soap is an irritant if not a carcinogen. I started looking for all natural soaps.
Found one (tried several, this is my favorite.)
Dr. Bronner's new castle liquid soap.
Thought I'd give it a two week trial and use nothing else.
Well the no known cause psoriasis went away. The dandruff I had for decades completely went away. Oh I can still scratch my scalp and get a few flakes to fall, we all shed skin so guessing some of that is normal. But no more flakes on my shoulders. A few other non related rashes I had in other places all cleared up too. Now I had already cut most carbs out, (went on atkins for awhile.) A lot of foods I stopped buying because of all the garbage in processed food now, learned a ton about diet and learning more every day but this psoriasis started after the change in diet. I haven't had a can of pop in several decades now. It wasn't until I changed soap that this all cleared.

Great explenation! I have had severe dandruff problems my entire life, visiting many doctors and using all kinds of prescribed and unprescribed solutions. The problem is most shampoos make you dependant on them and as soon as you stop using them it returns just as bad. The chemicals in them will basically slowly eat you alive. In 2016 I fell in love with a nutritionist. We have been in a relationship over 6 years now and walked a path of healing together. Now I know that the main reasons for my dandruff were gluten and sugar. Every time now, when I step out of my current diet to consume either of these my dandruff reappears after being completely absent.

I rinse the milk out with clear water. I bath rather than shower and the milk has removed dry eyes, cleared fungal toenails and ever in my 65 years has my hair been so manageable . It does lighten hair a little but at 65 I have no noticeable gray. Milk also worked to stop horrible discomfort of shingles. I can’t drink milk. But topical it has been amazing . I have done and continue to do most of the things, that you recommend on your videos, for years. I have been using all natural products and eating organic whole natural foods for 10 years. I am not following a keto diet, but do fast daily for about 12 hours on average. My problem I believe is not having my gallbladder. It has been one problem after another following the removal to which I was extremely hesitant to do. I tried every natural alternative that I knew about back then but had no success. I even tried the gallbladder and liver cleanse. It is absolutely frustrating that as a society we are okay with removing organs. Now granted, I know there are medical emergencies that require drastic measures but to remove an organ due to a tiny stone or minor issue that could be resolved in less problematic ways is insane to me. The medical field lets us down in my opinion. I am so glad that you are sharing this information to help people be their own advocates. There are alternatives that do work!

I’ve been dealing with sebborheic dermatitis (beard, scalp, creases of nose) for the past few years. Never had any skin issues until then. I’m almost positive that there is a gut-skin connection, which is not surprising, as the state of your gut affects almost everything. My wife and I eat very cleanly, and I don’t get many flare-ups, but if I eat things that I’m not used to eating (fried foods, etc.) consistently for a few days, I can feel the itch coming on.

    • @Carloss86py
      @Carloss86py 2 роки тому +3

Me too.. I’m 35 and the problem started about 12 years ago. Now that I think of it, I wanted to bean athlete when I was younger and the problem with dandruff and skin issues like sebhorreic started after I gave up on being an athlete. I probably started eating poorly and drinking more alcohol. Or maybe it was after using an antibiotic, who knows at this point.
What I noticed though is that when I’m on keto, the problem subsides. It goes away completely or almost completely. Maybe it really is a mixture of low carbs, sugar AND omega 6. It makes sense. I never consume probiotics or fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, etc. Will try this time with keto + low omega 6.

    • @Carloss86py
      @Carloss86py 2 роки тому +6

Also I forgot, in case this helps someone with these issues. I found there’s a direct correlation with bread and dandruff + sebhorreic dermatitis for me. Recently I got off keto and started consuming bread like crazy. I did this twice. The first time I was consuming bread and butter and I got a ton of acne, which I never have, in my forehead region. I thought it was the butter, not the bread. But I cleaned my diet and it went away. Next I fell off the wagon again and ate bread a lot but without butter, mostly with mayonese, cheese and ham, and same problem again. So it’s not the butter, it’s something in the bread.

My best advice from someone who had dandruff is to go to barber often get your hair cut, don’t use too much shampoo use little or none. Keep your hair short and trim when all else failed shaved your head because that’s the only way to clean dandruff. Only shampoo I recommend is baby shampoo it’s mild and made for baby. Cut an inch or two of your normal hair it definitely help and don’t keep long hair.

20 years ago I had a severe case of sebaceous dermatitis, I had all these oily scabs that formed on my scalp, in babies they call it cradle cap. I was at the local health food store, looking for a shampoo that might help and I had a young clerk come and ask me what I was looking for. When I described my problem she told me what I needed was a specifically balanced omega blend, not just omega 3's which were just starting to become popular, but a blend of 3-6-9 omegas, that I could get in a particular fish oil product. I tried it, and it took a couple of months but it cleared it up, and not just my scalp but I had always had pretty bad acne, and it helped that a lot. Over the years I have tried to share this with various people, medical, acquaintances, ect and most just give me that look, "okay, sure" and turn their back and roll their eyes. Oh well for them I guess.

@@annekendziora9114 It's Nordic Naturals, they used to brand it as 3-6-9, but now it's called something like "complete omega", it's omega 3 plus 70 mg GLA (what it says on the label). There are some other brands that make a blended formula, it comes in liquid form and they are all pretty pricey. I lived in Switzerland for a time and could get a plant base formula (which I think is better because it's more sustainable) and didn't cost an arm and a leg, but I haven't found it here. It's just so bewildering that even after 20 years, no one in mainstream medical will even listen. So sad. I guess it's like everything else these days, no real profit in it. Better to sell millions of bottles of H&S and all those prescriptions for steroids. Crazy.

I've had dandruff for over 2 decades. I'm not talking little flakes either- I have big, chunky flakes that you can feel coming off my of my head if you ran your fingers along my scalp. I've also always had eczema and after becoming an adult, I started going to the doctor about it. I got prescription shampoo and a steroid cream, both of which just kind of stopped being effective. I'm a very healthy eater, which may help (who knows), but a year ago my armpits got so red and inflamed I went back to my derm and she just gave me more chemicals (anti fungal and steroid), which didn't work. I decided to take a shot in the dark and stopped wearing antiperspirant and skipped out on the Rx creams all together. Immediately I started seeing an improvement. A few months ago after my monster flakes moved in for the winter, I ran out of shampooo, so I decided to just use castille soap instead. Again, it was almost an immediate 180; most of my dandruff is gone since I stopped using *real* shampoo. I've even taken things a step further and I only shower 2-3 times per week to make things easier on my skin. I'm not a naturally stinky/sweaty person and I have a desk job, so this routine works for me. Look, I'm not typically into the woo-woo stuff (I'm a lawyer raised by scientists), but allowing my natural "filth" to kind of run its course has been really beneficial to me. I hope you fellow crusties figure out what works best for you, too!

In 2008 i had a bad accident, and ended up in the hospital for 6 weeks with limited mobility.
I had bad dandruff before this.
While I was in the hospital, I only got the opportunity to wash my hair "once", though I had some basic washcloth hygiene, I felt pretty grimy.
But shockingly, I had NO dandruff while in the hospital.
I thought, ok, they used cleansers, antibiotics, painkillers, they flushed out my gut for surgery, etc... i guess it makes sense. But the last 3.5 weeks in hospital, I was taking no medication at all. It was just physical therapy.
So, what stands out to me, is that when i went home, I had bad dandruff again within 24 hours.
I am STILL trying to figure out what the magical difference was. I don't think my gut biome changed dramatically in less than a day. I've tried doing a final rinse with bottled water in the shower. I've tried not washing my hair like when i was in hospital. I've tried copying my hospital diet. The only thing I can think of I haven't tried, is regular blood letting for lab tests, but I don't think that's it. I also haven't tried just 'moving', but I'm considering it.
I would very much like to know what the cause really is. I suspect that I'm either just allergic to this house, OR doing a final rinse with bottled water is insufficient, and the water really is just that bad. I did take a proper shower first thing when i got home. I dunno.
Keto had no effect. Also I did have carbs while in hospital. I wasn't exactly sunbathing in my hospital room.
Dandruff shampoo has very temporary benefit. I use it, but I want the scalp I had while in the hospital.
I'd really like to know what I'm missing. When i was in hospital, it was like my dandruff was simply switched off. and coming home, it switched on again. And it was almost immediate both ways.

I've been alright for years. Affected me for over 10. My advice is, throw away body washes, shampoos, face washes and moisturisers and only get SLS and paraben free products. This will stop irritation. Go to the doctors and get bloodwork done, make sure you don't have any allergies or deficiencies in vitamins for example. Failing all that just eat as little carbs or processed sugars as possible. Meats, vegetables and grazing foods like nuts, fruits etc.

In India we use fenugreek seeds to get rid of dandruff and get shiny hair. Soak two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in water over night ..and next morning the seeds would have swollen up so crush the seeds and use some left over soaked water as well and make a paste . Paste doesn’t need to be fine. Apply all over the scalp leave for 15 mins. Wash your hair as normal with a less intense shampoo. Note fenugreek tends to make body cold so leave for less duration if you have asthma or sinus.

Head and Shoulders is okay to my psoriasis compared to most shampoos 3x a week. Sea salt shampoo is okay but it wants you to use it regularly and if not dandruff will go wild. Filtered water on a bath helps a lot. I put 2 liters of boiled guava leaves on my bath mix from time to time.

Hot water baths and the use of keto soap (ketoconazole) can be beneficial for psoriasis.
It is recommended to avoid seafood and chicken for psoriasis management.
Organic shampoos or herbal and ayurvedic powders can be used for hair care.
Applying coconut oil the day after or in the evening of bathing can be helpful.
Guava, especially its leaves and unripe fruit, can effectively reduce sugar levels in the body.
Most importantly do oil baths(loads of castor oil) every tuesday & saturday

I am prone to severe dandruff since the last 20 years as my scalp is an oil factory. I am a vegetarian and I cannot do Keto easily. I have been using Head and Shoulders since the last 20 years everyday to keep it under control. Every other shampoo including ketokonozole, selenium sulphide etc failed until i found magic (Thanks to fittuber channel). Its a 1:1:1 mixture of Aritha, Amla and Shikakai powder. I just put half a teaspoon into a small cup, mix some water to make into a thin runny paste and use it just like shampoo (If you have longer hairs, then maybe more is required). Sure there is no good smell/lather and is not as convinient as head and shoulders, but I can use it guilt free everyday and it has helped control the sebum production as well because it does not strip the entire natural oil and your body is not forced to produce a ton more.
Regarding shower filter, they only work for a day or two very well and only with warm to hot water then from day 3 they lose efficacy. Thats becuase there is simply not enough time for water to spend time with the filter chemicals to neutralize the chlorine and the hard to treat chloramine. I know this, because I have done this and measured chlorine content everytime. The best thing to do is use a bucket and a mug. Fill the bucket with water. Add a pinch of Vitamin C (Pure ascorbic acid) which will neutralize all these bad chemicals almost instantly. Use that water to take bath. Not as convinient as shower, but then you decide the advantages. The other thing to do it use is whole house filtration system - these are good but cannot be used for shower alone as these filters cant stand hot water. Whole house filteration system can run out fast if you use that filtered water to water a huge garden. Just do the math and get it installed. Hope this helps.

    *Saccharomyces Boulardii for Candida.*
Got intestinal candida after taking antibiotics. I battled it for years. I never had dry scalp until this happened to me. I was using head & shoulders, but knew it was only a temporary solution. I started buying this tea tree scalp spray to spray on my head when it became inflamed/irritated after eating certain foods (sugar, carbs & other things that feed yeast/candida). I also started using tea tree oil shampoo & conditioner. They both worked well, but again - you have to fix the gut for the complete cure. I tried the cadida diet, intermittent fasting (which is something I normally do anyways because I only eat when I'm hungry which is usually 1 meal in the evening), I tried candida supplements/vitamins (spending hundreds of dollars each month) & probiotics ranging from $30-$60 PER MONTH. NONE OF THIS WORKED!!! I tried taking oregano in both extract & pill form, grapseed extract, etc. DID NOT WORK!
Then one day I came across
*what FINALLY helped me & that is Saccharomyces Boulardii.* - the "good yeast." It took me YEARS to find out about this & I was not happy that NO ONE is talking about it nor mentioned it to me all of these years! Sure, what works for one may not for the other, but look at the reviews online for the herbal supplement. I but the "NOW" brand - look at those reviews! SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WHO WERE CURED BY IT! Or have been helped by it! I no longer have dandruff. Like Dr.Berg said, dandruff is a fungus. It is yeast overgrowth. It causes dander, sensitive painful itchy scalp, migraines, tingling of the scalp, it can make you feel "heavy" mentally & have brain fog! It can even cause the feeling of anxiety! Which is your body telling you that something is not right.
Then after washing the scalp with tea tree shampoo the "weight" lifts, I have more energy, can think more clearly, no anxiety & of course the scalp feels better. But then if I eat something the next day that triggers candida, those symptoms may return & I go straight to my tea tree scalp spray or wash hair with tea tree shampoo & condtioner.
The tea tree spray for head/scalp also helps with migraines or sensitive painful scalp (caused by inflammation of the scalp). I believe persons who experience migraines may benefit from the tea tree scalp spray. It works even when advil doesn't.
OH AND BTW, *STAY AWAY FROM IBUPROFRIN!!!* I switched to advice because ALL forms of ibuprofen has a soapy taste and will leave your tongue numb. That's very concerning and never used to be the case! In fact I started taking dye-free ibuprofen from Walmart years ago. They worked great until one day I put a tablet in my mouth which tasted like soap and numbed my tongue. You can go look at the reviews on Walmart about this and see that people are complaining about the same thing. So I went back to red dye form of ibuprofen (washed the dye off & then took them) because unfortunately it's one or the other. Now they are doing it to all forms of ibuprofen which I have tried from several different stores.

Yup, my issue has worsened or gotten better, depending on the area in which I've lived. (I'm not a home owner & apt leases run about 12 months.)
In one area, I had to resort to only washing my hair at my parents' place due to the dreadful water supply where I lived that year. At the very same place, I had a friend visit from out-of-town who attempted to rinse his face and screamed when the water went into his eyes. (That's saying something, because he was from a coastal town where everyone knows the chlorine is strong.) Meanwhile, the apt people had told me that I was "just sensitive" when I called to ask what was going on with the water supply.
I bought a "zero water" pitcher that I would use for a cold douse/rinse when I absolutely had to wash my hair there. 🥶

For a short term fix I can recommend apple cider vinegar. Just use it similar to a conditioner. Use a diluted solution, at least 1:3, massage it into your hair and let it there for a couple of minutes while you wash the rest of your body. If you have some bloody spots it will hurt at first. Then it helped me to leave it on longer... usually until it stopped hurting. The next days you will likely get some skin build up... but after 1-3 days it will be gone and underneath will be fresh, healthy skin. Anyway... rinse it out and let your hair dry. It won't be smelling very nice at first... buuuut as soon as it dries this scent will disappear.
I had these problems since my puberty... all the special shampoos and the special creams from my doctors didn't help anything. It just got worse and worse.... I still have these outbreaks from time to time.. usually when I'm under a lot of stress. Most times I can fix it by just slowing down and taking care of the stress... If it's too severe, the ACV still works like a charm.

The best remedy is to buy Amla and Shikakai powder. Mix 2 tablespoons of each with some boiling water. Apply on your scalp gently rubbing for 5min. Then leave it in for at least 20min/while you're taking a bath. Then rinse it with pure water. It takes some time and is a mess but worth it! After you have to wash your hair only once or twice a week. It is strong and shiny. No shampoo, no conditioner needed any more. (You can use silicone-free shampoo once a while if you don't have time for the procedure..)😊

Dr. Berg, I've suffered with dandruff for the last year or so. I've gone through my 20s with no scalp issues: I've always had great, healthy, shiny hair and a healthy scalp. My mom passed away last year, and as a result of the deep despair I faced I started eating garbage (lots of carbs and sweets) and drinking alcohol excessively. I got covid in October and my scalp issues got worse in November/December. Started shedding like crazy, dandruff was crazy, itchiness like I've never experienced. I went to my doctor, they told me there wasn't a lot they could because if it's caused by covid, they don't know enough to help me. 😒 I refuse to take "there's nothing we can do" as an answer. I knew I had put on weight and was unhealthy but I didn't realize how bad it was. I went back on keto, doing one meal a day, taking several vitamins, and now I'm doing the carnivore diet for a little while, incorporated organ meats (beef liver jerky from WF to start, then actual liver once I figured I could stomach it. Very aware of the potential for hypervitaminosis), exercising: weight lifting and running, making sure I get out for at least 2 hours of sunlight and fresh air every day. My scalp and hair are feeling normal again. I still get itches here and there, but the shedding is virtually non-existent. I'm still washing my hair with city (Chicago) water - and I'm going to get a good filter - but it's amazing how I've been able to reverse my issues with diet. My hair, which was always a light to medium brown, had turned a corpse gray/black while I was unhealthy, the color is coming back into my hair. Truly incredible to watch this transformation I'm going through. Thank you so much for putting out this information and I hope my story inspires someone to finally make the change.

Thank you for your testimony! I caught Covid in December of 2021 and noticed my scalp has been inflamed and very itchy since. And recently I have experienced some small patches of hair loss. I have also changed my diet. I switched up my diet just a few short days ago & I already noticed a slight difference in my skin. A healthy diet is the way to go. I must cut out the excess sugars! I forward to reporting back my results!

This coffee is my addiction, spicy and sweet 😋 and it gives me energy the whole day. I usually eat lunch at 1-2pm and sometimes have something small for dinner (before 6pm), so I get my intermittent fasting. Many times I just eat OMAD, plus I like to do a 2-3 day extended water fast once a month with just water and herb tea (no coffee, no BP-coffee). My hair, teeth, skin and nails are much healthier! Intermittent fasting ( no food after 6-7 pm and next meal after 9-10 am) Add dahi, buttermilk, isabgol, nuts, seeds, sugar-free electrolyte (ketofy), ghee, lemon juice, amla-aloe vera juice to avoid digestive issues. Appreciate the info Dr Berg. However if you are suffering with severe dandruff like seborrheic dermatitis and possible psoriasis on the scalp, ⚠️ please never use coconut or olive oil on your scalp⚠️ these oils irritate the scalp 3x worse! Instead use: sweet almond, jojoba or organic castor oil. Trust me it works for we who suffer with scalp conditions. I pray this helps someone. 🙏🏼

Well I don't have dandruff but I definitely have a vitamin D deficiency. I just came to tell Dr. Berg thank you for his knowledge. I started taking supplements and I'm already feeling better. I have pre-existing conditions that make it really easy to miss new symptoms by assuming it's an exacerbation of those conditions that are causing the issues. But I was soooooo fatigued for the last month, I knew there was something else wrong. The level of exhaustion scared me, and i was constantly falling asleep. After just a few days on supplements, I am already feeling better! I'm back to my 8 hours instead of 12 hours, plus naps lol
