I swear I've beaten this game 30 times and I will STILL have fun playing it
I have yet to find a game to scratch the same itch. NOt just gameplay wise, but in terms of full package. Story, characters, aesthetic, etc. It was basically a game that gave me that Zoid/Medabots/Mega Man NT warrior type of game I’ve always wanted.

They have. The developer of Custom Robo is creating a new game called Synaptic Drive on Switch and PC. Releasing date is on May 28th

@@GamerBoy870 the gamecube one (br) didnt make enough for a console sequel, so arena on ds came out but didnt make much money at all, so financially they fridged it.
Now the creator made synapric drive, which was made on such a tight budget that it had no chance to be anything other than generic and be glossed over on steam
Of course the n64 collection for switch contains cr 1 and v2, but only in japan version

Such a phenomenal experience, can’t believe a game with that quality, size, and scope has been so underground for so long.
So multiplayer Custom Robo using Amiibo tech to save your favorite robo setup. We could essentially make the game's premise a reality.
This game was the best it came out like a week before I was born but my older brother had a GameCube and I still play the game to this day

I remember playing the demos at Target as a kid. I can see the nostalgia for those who grew up with this game.
If you can emulate this game, I highly recommend it. It’s not the best balanced game, but it’s a real gem that’s worth your time, and there’s even a netplay community for it.
Ray Mk.I is still my favorite designed robo to date. And I always love to run the set up used in the intro video just for that extra flavor of feeling like the main protagonist and getting the role right.
So much nostalgia! I never played it with friends, but I remember clearing the story a couple of times when I was like 10.

For pvp try tag mode. There's a lot of cool things you can do with the character change mid-combat. You can also fire the acrobat bomb at your feet and then immediately use any laggy gun (sniper, v-laser, dragon, hornets, etc.) and it will launch you upwards as the shot comes out, letting you keep moving.
Love this game, just got a couple copies to play with my local fighting game friends.

Also the die cannon isn't random. You mash A while still inside to reset the count/countdown faster which ensures you landing on or near 1 so you can be the first out.
Custom Robo is one of those games that makes my head swim whenever I think about it. A dreamworld of a ghost of a childhood.
This is one of the most nostalgic games I’ve ever played, I probably have over 1000 hours and have every part expect one, Probably one of the best GameCube games

5:20, it's actually not random, it's based off of whether or not your cube is bouncing/bumps off of any objects. If you mash the A button you can speed up your countdown, but if you do it too early it can accidentally increase your countdown.
The basic idea to get an optimal landing is to mash A a couple of time while in the cannon and at the beginning of the launch and then aim for a flat area so that you won't bounce for too long.
I too wish Custom Robo had a revival on Switch. The gamecube entry held my interest for hours with all the parts to unlock. Oh and the music was great.

This game was a classic, I still love it and if my gamecube didn't get stolen I would still have it. man I miss this game, I really hope a remastered version gets released one day. I'd buy it in an instant.

I hope Nintendo is paying attention to Armored Core 6, because if that game does well internationally, that could mean that now is a great time to bring back Custom Robo. Custom Robo has a lot of the same gameplay appeal as Armored Core, but it manages to simplify customization without sacrificing variety. That makes it appealing to newer players. Plus, online multiplayer with this game just seems like it would be a blast.
This game needs a renaissance honestly the gameplay and store is just too good to let go to waste

I think I remember there being a line in the game about interpersonal violence (like shooting someone) being made so extremely taboo that not even the criminals would do it.
Or maybe that's my own head canon that I inserted because yeah otherwise the conflict makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't know how I stumbled across the game, but I played the hell out of it in high school. And then one year for my birthday, my then-girlfriend bought me the DS game which was equally amazing.
That was a long time ago. Last night I randomly thought about the game again. Since it's apparently not available on Switch, I hit up Ebay. Can't wait to play it again

God I loved this game, once I lost the game and didn't remember the name (I was like 6-7) and went years trying to figure out what the name of it until I saw the cover of the game at gamestop all the memories of this game came back and immediately bought it

I never played this, but I had Custom Robo Arena on the DS. One of the best games of my childhood, to be honest, and one I nearly forget about because I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who played it.
This is my childhood. The thought of illegal parts was so cool to me. I loved this game. Even though the story made no sense. Idc. Still so cool.

Just wanted to add something about the starting Dice/Die countdown: you can mash the L or R triggers, and the face buttons on the controller to speed up the countdown. The countdown will reset to 6 after going past 1, but if you time it so that the cannon fires as the number 4 has JUST appeared, you can have your starting cube land on a 1 second start. Really helpful during the Grand Battle/New Game Plus mode! Thanks so much for the video!

I highly recommend to any custom robo fan to look into custom robo v2. It is by far the best game in the series in every way other than graphics and music

Still have memories of banging my gamecube control against my head, because I missed getting a gold trophy by a second of time and now had to do the whole tournament again in the hopes to get the trophy and unlock secret parts

They even added a custom robo costume into smash ultimate, it was such a surprise to see it there, honestly thought Nintendo was sleeping on it. While we might not get a CR rep, it's fine, as just seeing it acknowledged is enough for me.
You can see the timer on the block while preping to launch it. Mashing buttons shuffles the numbers upward and you can even time it so you have a second as opposed to 4
Loved this game immensely growing up. I'd pick it up and finish it every couple of years until I moved out've my parents. Perfect game to fall asleep to, too. 100% recommended by a rando with noodle mouse profile pic.
i loved Custom Robo so much when i was younger. I replayed it quite a few times and completely beat the Grand Prix mode too.

It doesn't address the letting children use them but Robos can wreck a human hard and they move in response to thought so I figured everyone just did the battling to occupy enemy robos. Not a great explanation but like... this applies to so many stories like rpgs and strategy games so I don't know why it only bothers people. here.

You wanna know something, ever since I played through Custom Robo Arena, it got me to wanting to play the gamecube one. So I bought a used wii just to buy and play this game again.

I use to break out the game cube out and play this game one to two times a year. I haven’t gotten to play it again due to a break in and someone stealing all my older past consoles and games.

I remember blitzing this game with Ray 01 + Magnum, just running around corners to get a cheaky shot then smashing them with one or two charges. Who cares about range when your going sanic speeds? :P

I just managed to get this game. I originally had custom robo arena but I gave it to a good friend who couldn't afford video games along with a ds. I love the custom robo games so freaking much.
How there hasn't been any new game or is the franchise just completely dead
The story entertained me as a child. As an adult, my fascination with conspiracy theories and the necessity for an outside and unseen or hidden force to pin some sort of manipulation onto, fired up my mind. Life inside a dome, filled with knowing but unquestioning adults and ignorant children. Yes, go to the park, the grass is real. The gang organization will lose, just support our police force. Keep your mind on these fighting robots, it is your world. There is much to explore in your world, this dome holds many secrets. Why venture into the unknown when every thing you need is provided.
Little Raider model build for the win. Illegal parts are only illegal because they are dope. Get dunked on by a robot school girl.

It's funny you should mention Melee. Because a lot of people speculate that it got launched in the West by Melee like Fire Emblem did. Even though in Melee, all you had from Custom Robo was a handfull of trophies. Either way, I know I got the Ray 01 trophy, and then later found a copy of Custom Robo at GameStop, which I bought out of curiosity.
But, these days, GameCube games have become scarce but highly coveted due to nostalgia. And as a result they can be quite expensive. Don't believe me? Look up Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness or some other hit games like Super Mario Sunshine or Metriod on Amazon. Thankfully, due to its relative obscurity, you can play Custom Robo for around $25 last time I checked, provided that you have an intact Wii or GameCube to play it on.
Highly underrated game, if you ask me.
To be fair, it has a spiritual sequel on switch and pc. Its called Synaptic Drive. Its pretty good, just wait with buying it until the online's fixed.
