- As soon as your born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV,
And you think you're so clever and you're classless and free,
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see,
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like all the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero, well just follow me
If you want to be a hero, well just follow me
Wow, I'd no idea Marianne Faithful covered this Lennon classic. It's perfect for her. Her voice is bittersweet, genuinely expressive of a tortured, ethereal soul. Rare, visceral, beautiful. The accompaniment compliments her voice and the song rather well. Hers easily compares to the original, perhaps even surpasses it.

Perfect. Talent. Smarts. And the most beautiful woman god ever created.
Her voice does Justice to this song
Totally unique lady❤😊
This is such a beautiful live performance of this iconic song. Isn't her voice perfect for it?
Joshua Jacobson - yes, and yes.
So true. Love her voice and she does this song well
Wow what a voice, what a cover. She is a goddass.
Thank you Marianne, you are beautiful
Definitely a great version
Brilliant.
Wow!
Great Song
una voce straordinaria
Great version of a great song written by a genious...john lennon.
At times in life those with true heart come to life and for a short time we stand in there path and very lucky to do so

Και όσο γερνάει τόσο καλυτερεύει γιατι είναι βραχνόφωνη. Μαριανάρα. SISTER MORPHINE.
Amazing performance, love it, now playing in my fb alternative music group :)
Mein Gott ist das gut!
Super Stimme !!
Better than the original version!
oh my,it must've been during this or earlier period I saw her,Fernando Saunders on bass and I forget who else. She looked fabulous but Garth Hudson definately wasn't at that show, thanks for the memory anyway
Uwielbiam ten kawałek
WORKNG CLASS HERO...IS SOMETHING TO BE.....TO WORK VERY HARD ALL YOUR LIFE WITH LOW PAY...A WORKING CLASS HERO IS SOMETHING TO BE.UNDERSTAND THE WORDS AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE TIME A LABOR SPENDS DURING HIS /HER LIFE FOR YOU.
Yes!
You are beautiful and speak the fucking truth. xx
Amazing
What a version...
This song was meant for Marianne to sing.
Garth Hudson......nice
Good
An emotionally charged version that only Marianne could deliver - masterful; perhaps the only song that the ultimate cynic Lennon wrote that's worthwhile.
Wow
Well, it's one of his very best.
I guess I can see where you're coming from, though fwiw I think Lennon's very best work came out while solo. This is one of the very best during that period, one among many imo. Harrisson, too, by far, did his best work post-Beatles.
Garth!
Galiba dünya üzerine gelmiş en iyi parça
A somber record to begin with but, Faithful only deepens the mood in Britain's post war years. A depressing period for the working class of the land, a bleak landscape of poverty and a daily grind of futility. A Schopenhauerian philosophy put to music.
!!!!!
best version ever .
Yep she makes it powerful
@@JohnSmith-uw1ur There's nothing more powerful than the original with Johns voice and a dry Martin D-28. It's not a competition.
Well said, Kristina! (;o)*
Salute to the peasants John.

*we're
She left out the very last verse about "following" too, but changing you to _us_ ("they're telling you still), and to _we_ (re still being peasants) are the 2 small yet great lyrical changes she made to Lennon's original. @@jackd1582
I'm glad that she didn't become a nun and so is Mick Jagger!
I love her voice and I'm a working class hero... and I'm a fucking peasant as far as I can see
i love here voice too but i don't want to live like the folks on the hill.
@@alanbodell2050 no but, it's and, of course you don't want to follow their rules, you don't want to smile as you kill.
Dr John Marc Ribot & Fernando Saunders were here
Yia sas Marianne. Se ayapo

I agree with MiserableOld Fart.
Ottima versione...forse alla pari dell'originale
Maybe the youngsters could learn a thing or to form this
Yeah, shame the powers to be don't understand
Listen to Jerry Williams doing his version. That's how this song should be done.
Well done. Very appropriate in contemporary fascist Amerika.
Karl Marx on the accordion, how appropriate...!
Marianne was never working class
Yawn!
+SuperAgeofaquarius She's a singer
whats her class got to do with it,don't think Lennon was either
think you've got that wrong son; women are second class because of the way men treat them; take a real look around...
Χαλαρά η καλλίτερη εκτέλεση του κομματιού;)
