    The stupid thing is an impact driver is all about torque….yet has no calibrated torque number settings or scale readout for you. All you know is it is giving the fastener a really good hard twist…in some cases too hard. For this reason, and despite that most YT tool channels seem to ubiquitously use impact drivers in favour of drills, I prefer a powerful hammer action drill driver with clutch settings so I won’t strip the smaller screws and it will still power deep into concrete if I ask it to. If I ever need to undo lug nuts on a truck wheel…then I’ll think about an impact driver (but then it will more likely benefit from a dedicated wheel nut impact wrench). Thanks for the video👍

      At last, a video that breaks all the BS behind the Impact screwdrivers. A cordless driller with a 1,3Ah battery would easily break your arm into tiny pieces if it would like to. Simply, use a genius invention called "good screws with Torx heads" and you are all good to go. If you can't make a tightening on a crew with your arm stretched using cordless driller how the hell you gonna drill the 12mm hole in a concrete wall using 230V SDS Plus machine in the same position?
      BTW I'm wondering, how Impact (brushless) driver will help me when I need to polish or sharpen an aluminum arrow with steel made tip? Is there any "arrow adapter" on the market? Exactly.

    I've been a professional woodworker for nearly a decade now and I've never ran into a situation where i absolutely needed an impact driver.
    I won't deny the usefuleness of an impact but my go to is a combi drill. Drills are way faster, quieter and way better to "dose" to not overdireve a fastener.

      Ok abit harsh lol, let's say if you was doing a decking job would you not go for the impact driver then?? Plus don't you find you can get in tighter spacers with impact for instance when you're doing kitchens??

      @@booboo-nl3wi Most of the Decks in my area have a aluminium or a woodcomposite substructure and are screwed down with stainless steel screws. They rip off pretty easily in alu or wpc so i use the drill and set the clutch on a low setting so i don't have to worry about it. For furniture i mostly use my 12v driver, it has all the power you need for this little screws and its super compact and lightweight. As i wrote in my first comment i won't deny the usefullness of an impact. Really big legs are a pain in the ass with a drill especially when you're up on a ladder or a rafter. But i rarely need screws big enough to cause major kickback so i use my combidrill because it's faster and quieter.

    • @ChargedPulsar
      @ChargedPulsar Рік тому +4

      @@booboo-nl3wi Professional means, he is doing a profession for money. Who are you to decide who gets paid for which kind of work? These comments are just childish. He can carve the wood with a spoon if he likes to and then sell it. And can call it "professional work for woodworking", what do you care?
      Combi driver can do it all, and there are quality combi drivers that can even "pulse" when it senses high torque and simulate a impact driver effectiveness. Not necessarily to race with the performance of specialized impact drivers. But see, tools are just choices. Whichever you like, you use it. Maybe just the sound of it annoys you or that it looks cool or that your grandfather gave you the tool.
      Please have some more respect to other people's efforts and choices.

You have a job where you have to drill a pilot then drive a screw in one at a time you get arsed off with changing between drill bits you buy an impact driver then you fall in love with it and start looking at all the other cordless toys you can buy without having to buy new batteries. I believe you forgot to mention that 1 of the biggest advantages of an “impact driver “ is that the way it delivers it’s power(short spurts)is that it keeps the bit or socket from stripping the screw head! However, you did a great job on explaining, everything.

  • @ChargedPulsar
    @ChargedPulsar Рік тому +1

    I'm was a combi driver guy, I don't understand the extra tool and can't justify their need. But when I was installing something on the ceiling, combi driver was hard to manage because it was twisting my arm and the sensitive position didn't allow handle the kickback properly. Then I realised, that the impact driver would have been a better choice there.
    One more tool can be a good option at times where it matters.

    You confirmed what I was only able to intuit. I purchased a set that included a combi driver and impact driver. The impact driver felt like overkill for the #8 and #10 woodscrews, regardless of their length. Indeed, the impact driver cammed out the heads on the longer screws. Alternatively, the combi drill competently drove the long screws without deforming them. The impact driver seems more suited for bolts and lag screws. The combi driver has more uses and should be the first tool of choice.

  • @geoffstrickler

    In the US, we rarely use the term “impact drill”, instead we use “hammer drill”, less confusion. However, there is still some confusion between “impact driver” and “impact wrench”. People in the trades know the difference, as do some DIY folks, but many consumers don’t realize they are two different, but closely related things.
    Good demonstration and thanks for demonstrating that a drill/driver is sometimes faster than an impact driver. Choose the right tool for the job...when you have the right tool available.

    I first bought an impact driver as a tag-along with a kit of other tools that I actually needed, and mostly just dismissed it. Here several years later, my tune has changed. I drive a lot more fasteners than I drill holes, and while a drill can drive fasteners, the impact driver does it MUCH better. I pretty much only use my drill.........to drill holes. My impact driver gets used easily 4x more often. If I could only have one, I'd have the drill and not like the limitation at all, but if you can at all, definitely get the impact driver as well.
