- I used some more scrap wood to make a shop sign. I tried playing around with a few simple ways to make the wood look aged without getting overly complicated using different stains or paints.

definitely love no talking and speed of video!
+Elizabeth Arent Thank you!
Elizabeth Arent your hots
handsome guy
+EBBING2003 Thanks!
If you alternate your clamps, you will keep from putting a bow in the glue-up a a whole. Also, why plane something you want to look old and rustic ? Maybe just belt sand it with 50 grit or drag it behind the car down a gravel road.
+doesrealityexist Thanks for the suggestions! The clamps were alternating, it just wasn't shown on camera. The reason I planed it was because I wanted to try some distressing techniques starting with perfectly smooth wood. That way if I ever had to build something with a specific thickness, I could plane it down and distress it after.
If you want to have some fun making worm holes get yourself a pellet gun and some darts or just plain old throwing darts.
Love your video- no talking! One comment though- I know 3 people who have had their hand dragged back into the table saw blade reaching over to retrieve the pieces they cut, just as you were doing with your left hand. Please be careful! Keep up the good work!
+Thomas Johnson great point! I'm very very aware of the dangers and focused when grabbing the wood like you're saying. But I really need to make it a point to avoid it due to the dangers I expose myself to. I'll stop being lazy! It only takes one time...
Thomas Johnson When u do carpenter work this is what you have to do. It's not a big deal if you use common sense and are used to it.
Thomas Johnson Bullshit.
Just for the sake of argument..when he grabbed the wood the cut was already complete and past the blade yea?
Good video! The wood seems to be cupped already maybe that is part of the charm of the distressed look. Be careful with your table saw reaching back to retrieve the wood.
wow. Good job. Thank you for sharing.
Nice. I use a mixture of vinegar, and steel wool that has sat for at least 2 weeks to age wood.
+Buffalo Builds Thanks, yes that's another option I'll use sometimes. It really just depends on the wood and the end result desired. Have you experimented with any other techniques?
coffee works great!
+Buffalo Builds That's what I hear! Haven't tried it yet though.
Great but not sure why you would put it through a planer just to rough it up again...
+Celtic Nations Thanks. It was to get the thickness I wanted.
Is there a list of items used to make option 1? I’m very new to staining and whatnot so any help would be appreciated. Thanks and love the video.
🤦🏼♂️
Excellent video! Whats that orange-handled tool you're using just after gluing the boards (roughly at 1:58)? Thx!
Thank you! +withit062714 That's a paint scraper. It works wonders for getting the dried glue off the wood.
I love it....and it doesn't matter how much work was involved if u love the end result👍great job tfs
Thanks Morganne!
Worked WAY too hard for an easy result ....
Perception is everything...
good video. shop tools + wood + great DIY 411 = thanks, I'm subscribed :)
+SPDworks Thank you!
sign lettering is too small to read from a distance over 2 ft. FAIL. distressing is ok. speed of video excellent.
+hetjaar Thanks for your input, but in person it’s readable from 30 ft away.
awesome techniques! you've inspired me to do something with my basement columns :)
Thank you +Paul D!!
nice! whats the black spray called?
Im with your lady...Hey I like that too.
LOL..I think I love your video but I may have missed a few steps!? Could you do one in slo-mo? Wish I had all your tools..LOL Thanks for sharing?
+ScrappyNana2011 Haha! Thank you!
Haha thank you! I'll see what I can do...
this is why kids, Always paint on 2 sides or your bord will warp
Unless you want it to warp...

+Noel Vandegrift thanks Noel!
Very Entertaining and Great How To Video
Thank you +Mitch Muerle! Very much appreciated.
Great work
a lot of work for a simple sign
+Pablo alonzo More for practice than anything
bad work, total uncool
I think this is too much work for a $9.99 sign which are sold at Christmas tree shops etc..
+Cornelius Maximilianus You can't always get a sign exactly how you want it. Besides, I was using free scrap wood and trying out different techniques. You can't get that for $10.
Are you in phoenix?
No, Bakersfield CA
amazing artist
+Max C Thanks!
contrast is bad but is a good job anyway
+Renato Duarte thanks. That's what I was going for.
great artisan but i dont fancy spending 6k on machinery just to make a sign.
+Jan Davis You don't have to.
