Hi ohjajohh, I rather like the ASMR style videos where you just watch someone making something - for some channels they're really popular but not so much on my channel - mind you, none of my recent videos have seen that many views, I think I've fallen off the UA-cam algorithm!!! That old torch is a really great bit of kit - I've bought an even bigger one since then, a real monster - I'll show that in a video soon.
      Cheers for watching

The terms Vintage and Retro are often incorrectly interchanged, Vintage means OLD or of a particular time. A vintage wine, or a vintage car. Retro is MODERN made to look old. You can get a Retro Radio that has modern components but made to look old on the outside. A retro car is a modern car made to look old. This sign in this video is RETRO and NOT Vintage.

Hi Mark, it's always a struggle making relatively punchy titles that stand any chance of being seen within UA-cam - I will (hopefully) never stoop as low as making total clickbait thumbnails and titles, a practice that is encouraged by UA-cam and rewarded appropriately. A more accurate title would have been something like "Hand carving a garage sign out of 125 year old timber reclaimed from an old house, using traditional methods, then painting with traditional Linseed paints and ageing using fire from a paraffin blow torch to create a vintage look" or something along those lines, but no one would have ever clicked on it. The more obscure the subject and title, the less views a video gets - there's been a stampede of big UA-camrs quitting or at least cutting down drastically on their output because the algorithm just seems to push non informative popular videos and shorts, and videos with an add break every 5 minutes also seem to be promoted over ones without mid roll ads. I think I've only allowed a single batch of mid roll ads on about 5 of my videos, just as an experiment, and those videos definitely get promoted more than the others.

Really enjoyed this one, Tim. Nice chilled out video. The father in law often gets ahold of these 12ft boxes that refrigeration pipe is delivered in and I often snag one and end up making something random like a bird table or planter😂

Coo that sounds cool, I definitely get a kick out of making something from reclaimed materials, it's highly satisfying and very good for the planet too. Thanks for watching David - I think I'm a video behind on yours so I'll try to catch up this weekend.

@@GrumpyTim Ah no worries, mate. You've been there on most of my videos for the last 18 months or so and I really appreciate it. Have a good one, Tim🖖

Hi Tim, very fine and inspiring craftsmanship, the way you created the patina is very cool!
And your filming is a piece of art which I enjoy with every of your videos. I wish I had the patience....

Thanks so much, that's very kind. The patina is definitely helped by the fact the timber I used was so old and weathered - I think I'd have struggled to get that look with brand new timber. I always keep my eye open for suitable old timber - the kind of stuff that people throw in a skip usually suits me fine!!!

Cheers Ben, I scavenge any decent old timber that I can find for making signs (and much other stuff too), it's much easier getting the old look using actual old timber. The piece for this sign was fairly split down the middle and you might have noticed the bow tie inserts on the back while I was planing the edge - it needed those for stability. I was given some old fence posts a while back - they look completely knackered but if you give them a tap they sound solid and resonant - and inside, they're nice, solid, vintage oak.

@@GrumpyTim Yes I saw the bow inserts. Good work and good scavenging.
