You guys have actually done EIGHT Metallica songs, including "One" twice. You also did "Whiskey in the Jar", "Nothing Else Matters", "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", and "For Whom the Bell Tolls". I recommend "Sad But True" or "Master of Puppets" for your next one.
The lyrics of the song, written by Hetfield, address his mother's battle with cancer, to which the "it" in the title refers. They can be seen as either describing the emotional pain he feels for the loss, or the physical pain his mother was feeling while she was ill. Both of his parents were Christian Scientists, and did not believe in medicine. The lyrics are also interpreted as dealing with anger issues. Hetfield's father, Virgil, died in late 1996, during Metallica's Load tour.
Cancer is a terrible thing. I watched it take both of my parents, and now it's taking me. My parents did everything known to man to stop it. All I saw was more pain.
Time to go earlier in their catalog… Fade to black is a must, four horsemen for the riffs, and for 8 minutes of pure instrumental bliss, Orion. I think y’all will love all 3 for different reasons. Happy listening
Some of us who understand Metallica came to them at an early age because of the trauma of our youth. Discovered them in 85 when I was 11. already saw my mother and sister try to commit suicide father left and was already trying to escape with drugs. At almost 49 I don't know how I survived my youth.
I love this songs. Metallica is one of those bands that when you watch them live you hear one great song after another. I've been lucky enough to see them live twice.
I love this song. It gives me the same vibe as when I listen to Sad But True. It's another song about self reflection. Acknowledging the darker parts of yourself that most people keep hidden and they pretend doesnt exist.
Great reaction! I experienced a severe trauma when I was 13; this song, along with their song "Fade To Black" made me feel so understood. I'm so glad that Amber keyed into the meaning so easily. You guys are amazing!!
Amber always amazes me at her analogy into her understanding of all genres of music. Love her. ❤️ I'm glad music has helped you in your sadness. 🎶🎶👍✌️🇨🇦
I love seeing Amber just close her eyes and just Feel Metallica’s music . I don the same thing when I hear a song of there’s . Metallica helped me in some dark times In life . The only time I didn’t care for them was the album St Anger . Some friends stopped listening to them around the time this came out I still loved it . Ok it was slowed down but the tone of this song is darkness no matter where u go it will never rest .. Until it Sleeps . Love this song
HAHAHA. The fact you guys keep circling back to Metallica and enjoying it is awesome. Thanks for keeping an open mind to all kinds of music & very refreshing.
I’ll mimic others here: ‘Fade To Black’ by Metallica is a must. And towards the last 2 minutes-DON’T PAUSE! You will want to catch that in one, non-stop play through. 😊
As you are trying to learn bass, watch the 1983 video of baby Metallica playing Anathesia (Pulling Teeth) and see why Cliff Burton is still missed 36 years after his death.
Superb song and visuals. References here to the Northern Renaissance master, Hieronymus Bosch, his triptych, The Garden of Earthly Delights as well as other paintings/artists of the era. It fits the mood of the song.
Dude, I agree and I’m one of those grizzled old school Thrashers that was grossed out by The Black Album when it was released in 1991. I like Load way better to this day but, by 1996 I pretty much gave up on them ever returning to form. They’re a different band now and I have to pretend they’re not the same band that recorded Kill ‘Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, and …And Justice For All.
@@julianortiz4151 I agree, definitely a different band. I still like a good deal of what they do, though, and in many ways, I'm glad they changed. Unless you're AC/DC, trying to remain unchanged for forty years is an impossible task.
I love that Jason played fretless bass on this one as well (I play bass, and currently only play fretless also.) Probably my favorite song from the Load albums is Outlaw Torn, and as much as I love the studio version, I like the S&M version just that much better.
Great song guys! Its is incredible to think how much backlash this band got in this era because of the musical style switch (from metal to a hard rock transition, which we can see here in this song). And now, how well this type of songs have aged for the band. If you wish to explore the heavier side of Metallica, you can check “Master of Puppets” which is a song that nowadays has become very popular thanks to the TV show “Stranger Things”.
“Master of Puppets” is a must on your Metallica journey. “Sad But True” and their cover of Bob Seger’s “Turn The Page” would also be excellent choices. For deeper cuts, I’d also recommend “Trapped Under Ice”, “Disposable Heroes” and “Frayed Ends of Sanity”. 😉😉👍🏻
Metallica helped me through some really bad depression and still does. This song along with 'Fade to Black' 'Nothing else Matters' 'One' and so many others. You feel understood and it's soothes your pain. I don't know how many times I have cried listening to them.
This one was from an album that saw Metallica kinda step outside their norms. They cut their hair and made more radio friendly songs. This one is great but I think I you should check out King Nothing or The Memory Remains.
This song charted on Billboard Hot 100 on June 8, 1996 and it peaked at number 10 and was there 7th single and was there biggest hit so far, they have 22 singles as of 2016
I was in high school and saw the AND JUSTICE FOR ALL Tour, Blew me away, at the end of the concert they had a huge LIGHT RACK directly above the stage throw sparks and fall swinging from side to side, great climax to close it out with
Oh finally someone reacting to this song. It's my favorite song of theirs. Lost my dad to cancer about 25 years ago, and know this kind of pain. It doesn't go away.
*Metallica - "Battery (Live), "Dyer's Eve", "Master of Puppets, "Blackened", "Fade To Black", "And Justice for All"... you guys are doing a lot of newer Metallica with their chill, more mellow songs (which is cool,) but I wish you would go a little further back into their catalogue. You won't be disappointed.* 🤘🤘🤘
I know you guys have done While my guitar gently weeps by the Beatles, but you should really do the version done by Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn, Steve Winwood, George Harrison's son, and Prince at the rock hall of fame awards. A list of the 100 greatest guitarists was released that day, and everyone was pissed Prince wasn't on it. They asked him to play the song with them, and he showed his skills!
This video was inspired by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. A Dutch painter from the late 1400s and early 1500s. One of his most famous paintings is The Garden of Earthly Delights.
You've been reacting to a lot of the newer Metallica. Now you should go back and listen to some of the classics like "Fade To Black" and "Master of Puppets". Such a great band.
Amber's band. Such a great tune to rock out to. The drumming is so much the star in this song. And the guitars. Lol Great analogy as usual Amber. Your insights into all genres and lyrics amazing. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
An amazing song, the guys really dove into the visuals in this video. They always have great videos tho. They really make u feel their lyrics. They r special. Thanx so much, Be well, Peace
Y'all *seriously* need to set aside a day and react to the Unforgiven Trilogy back-to-back-to-back. The music and James' vocals will fire J up, and the lyrics and deeper meanings will be a welcomed gut-punch for Amber....(as far as gut-punches go, anyways. 🤣) ✌😎
I believe you should give Fade to Black a listen. Absolute fire. If you got the guts give the four horsemen a listen as well, both are Metallica essentials.
I'm so glad to see you guys continuously returning to my favorite band of all time, Metallica. With a nearly 40 year catelog it's always interesting to see which songs people will react to. I'd say you guys have done a pretty good mix so far, but you're still missing quite a few "essential" Metallica songs. So I'm throwing in my votes for "Master of Puppets," "Fade to Black," "Disposable Heroes," and the instrumental masterpiece that is "Orion."
Master of Puppets , Fade to Black , Sad but true and Creeping Death are the Metallica essentials you guys haven't reacted to and are played at every Tallica concert.
My favorite song on this album, BTW this is the album and videos that showcased them all cutting their hair, but my favorite song is BLEEDING ME, yall should check it out

As mentioned above I second that… I’d add Fade to black, the god that failed, the four horseman, blackened, AJFA, ride the lightning. Just to make a few others
Metallica is probably the most iconic metal band of all time. Purists will argue the point but Metallica put metal on the map in a way other bands could only aspire to.
Hi Jay and Amber, Until It Sleeps was released in 1996 and is from their album Load, i love this song, huge Metallica fan!! 😀 😀 Metallica are : James Hetfield on guitar and vocals Kirk Hammett on rhythm guitar Jason Newstead on bass guitar Lars Ulrich on drums Jason Newstead has since left the band, the current bassist is Rob Trujillo!! 😀 😀 Drummer Lars Ulrich was actually born in Denmark and is the founding member of the band 😀 😀 🤘 🤘 🎸 🎸 🎸

Absolutely! Now that Amber has embraced metal, I think she can really appreciate it even more.
Master of Puppets is an absolute necessity, one of the greatest songs of all time
>Insert Denzel Washington “My man” gif here.
Definitely "Sad But True."
How about Human
"So tear me open but beware, there's things inside without a care". Pretty much says it all for people than hold everything inside.
For more like this one: "Bleeding Me" and "The Outlaw Torn"
Both are awesome songs!
These with '99 Orchestra 💖
The Outlaw Torn is so underrated it’s criminal. 🤘🏼
Outlaw Torn is such and amazing song ❤ and No Leaf Clover
YES!😊
The lyrics of the song, written by Hetfield, address his mother's battle with cancer, to which the "it" in the title refers. A good way to follow up this song would be to react to The God Who Failed.
Cancer is a terrible thing. I watched it take both of my parents, and now it's taking me. My parents did everything known to man to stop it. All I saw was more pain.

Partly because of Metallica i'd say, good that you pushed through but mate.
Was a teenager when they dropped their first albums and managed to see them in a smaller venue. It was awesome, loud, and I loved every minute.
I love this songs. Metallica is one of those bands that when you watch them live you hear one great song after another. I've been lucky enough to see them live twice.

You need to see this one with a full orchestra behind them. S&M Live. Absolute masterpiece.
LOAD and RELOAD contain some of the best written and performed songs of their career. I LOVE old Metallica, but 90's Metallica is brilliant.
I think the same. Very mature & amazing albums, better than The Black Album (no hate - still a fairly good album)
Same here. 2x4 is one my favorite songs of all time.
The "they cut their hair???" video. That's what it was like when this video dropped on MTv in 1995 (?).
I’ll mimic others here: ‘Fade To Black’ by Metallica is a must. And towards the last 2 minutes-DON’T PAUSE! You will want to catch that in one, non-stop play through. 😊
That song is great, unbelievable Metallica fans didn’t see it eye to eye with the band.
It was the image change, that's all some people bitched about for a while.
As you are trying to learn bass, watch the 1983 video of baby Metallica playing Anathesia (Pulling Teeth) and see why Cliff Burton is still missed 36 years after his death.

In my opinion, the underrated Load album contains some of the bands finest songs, this being one of them.

For deeper cuts, I’d also recommend “Trapped Under Ice”, “Disposable Heroes” and “Frayed Ends of Sanity”. 😉😉👍🏻
The entire album "Load" is one of my favorites and most overlooked of Metalica's in my book.
You should do Bleeding Me! You will both love this song.
"And the hate still shapes me" is such an incredible lyric.
Love Metallic ❤️ Check out the song "Don't Tread On Me". That one's my favorite.
suffering from PTSD this is my theme song love it so much it puts into words the inner me every day
Metallica helped me through some really bad depression and still does. This song along with 'Fade to Black' 'Nothing else Matters' 'One' and so many others. You feel understood and it's soothes your pain. I don't know how many times I have cried listening to them.
CONGRATS , you've just described the basis of rock/heavy metal , at its heart it's a different way of expressing your feelings
This one was from an album that saw Metallica kinda step outside their norms. They cut their hair and made more radio friendly songs. This one is great but I think I you should check out King Nothing or The Memory Remains.
My favorite version of this song was done live with the backing of the San Francisco Orchestra. Totally awesome!
This song charted on Billboard Hot 100 on June 8, 1996 and it peaked at number 10 and was there 7th single and was there biggest hit so far, they have 22 singles as of 2016
This song just hits you in the gut with the rawness of it, love it 💕
This is Metallica's only top 10 hit in America (Billboard Hot 100) despite having many in other countries.
They do have a song called Sweet Amber... (on the often maligned Saint Anger album but I love it)
I was in high school and saw the AND JUSTICE FOR ALL Tour, Blew me away, at the end of the concert they had a huge LIGHT RACK directly above the stage throw sparks and fall swinging from side to side, great climax to close it out with
Anything from Seattle Live 89 in HD. One of their Best ever. MASTER OF PUPPETS 🔥🤘🔥
She makes me close my eyes and just Farken and feel this heartiness
"Master Of Puppets" Needs to be.... NEXT!
🤘😎
Oh finally someone reacting to this song. It's my favorite song of theirs. Lost my dad to cancer about 25 years ago, and know this kind of pain. It doesn't go away.
I recommend listening to this one more time. Pay close attention to the relation of drums to guitars. Absolutely brilliant.
I remember being blown away when they came around when I was in high school.
can't wait for you guy's to get to, where ever i may rome
An absolute Rocker of a work out song is “Fuel”. I know you will love it.
She feel this song excellent...in slow part, she close her eyes, in fast and drum part she have perfect ritym, love it.

THANK YOU, I have been feeling and experiencing and enjoying metal since the late 70's
It is an amazing piece of work but it is also typical 90s angst and inner searching. Very reflective of the changes from the decade before.
This video was inspired by the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. A Dutch painter from the late 1400s and early 1500s. One of his most famous paintings is The Garden of Earthly Delights.

The tone and load on the guitar work is awesome.
"The Memory Remains" would be a great heavy rocking groove. Trippy video, too.
Master of Puppets , Fade to Black , Sad but true and Creeping Death are the Metallica essentials you guys haven't reacted to and are played at every Tallica concert.

omg I haven't seen this music video (or probably heard this song) since it came out! It got so much play on MTV in the mid 90s. Definitely brought me back!
The memory remains is a great song that people have forgotten about
Check out Sad But True, Bleeding Me, Memory Remains or My Friend Of Misery by Metallica next!
One of Metallicas most underrated albums for sure. My favorite track from this album is Bleeding Me, some of James hetfields best writing
This is my favorite music video by Metallica. It was directed by Samuel Bayer
On their alum Load, they veered into alternative, southern, hard, and blues rock. I recommend the song bleeding me!
Good tune from an album that turned everybody's heads . Another good one off this album "Wasting my Hate".
Another one from this album to checkout is HERO OF THE DAY.
Great reaction. Very underrated song.
One of the only Metallica songs to have a solo in a major key.
Check metallica's " wherever i may roam " and " fade to black "
I was in school in the Navy when this album was released. A bunch of us gave cash to a guy to stand in line overnight to get a copy of it. It was worth every penny.
I have seen them 5 times. The first time when I was 9 in Cincinnati at Riverbend arena in 1992. The second time when I was 17 in 2000 at Kentucky Speedway. James Hettfield was hurt in a jet ski accident and couldn't make it. The other bands were Korn, Kid Rock, Power Man 5000 and System of a down. At the end we got to see the other Metallica members play songs with the other 4 bands. It was amazing and we got free tickets to see Metallica at an upcoming date at Rupp Arena in KY a month later which was the 3rd time I saw them. The 4th time I saw them at Ohio Stadium aka the horse shoe in Columbus Ohio in 03 when I was 20. That was a stacked one too. Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Mud Vayne and Def Tones. The last time when I was 21 I saw Metallica and Godsmack at US Bank arena in Cincinnati in 2003. All of them were amazing and of every band and artist I've seen live nothing compares. Please do Master of Puppets next.
Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn from this album are a must.
I like how you talk about how you came to really like and appreciate Metallica as you grew older. My path was the same, though I transitioned to rock/metal a lot earlier. At first, when you grew up listening to other genres, metal can seem loud, the instrumentation overwhelming, but as the guy who first introduced me to rock/metal told me, is that you have to listen to the actual words. Once you do that, and you have the capacity to understand the MEANING of the song, then rock/metal is just FAR superior to many other genres. In my humble opinion, of course.
I definitely would recommend Sad but True & Wherever I May Roam. Both songs are excellent choices & I know you will love them
Thanks guys, I forgot about this song. Good to come across a buried gem from time to time.
Metal music in general is at its best when it's about turning personal pain into personal power. Also, great workout music!
Fade to Black is a Metallica MUST, guys!!
I feel like you should watch some of their performances from the original S&M gigs with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra! "Outlaw Torn", "No Leaf Clover", "Hero of the Day" etc.
Gonna throw Wherever I May Roam out there again.
The Day That Never Comes
The Memory Remains - Metallica + Marianne Faithfull is a great video with a rotating room
Yeah. You need to watch the video!! It brings the meaning to the music.
As mentioned above I second that… I’d add Fade to black, the god that failed, the four horseman, blackened, AJFA, ride the lightning. Just to make a few others
Metallica is probably the most iconic metal band of all time. Purists will argue the point but Metallica put metal on the map in a way other bands could only aspire to.
great to see people reacting to an underrated era of Metallica's career
Hi Jay and Amber, Until It Sleeps was released in 1996 and is from their album Load, i love this song, huge Metallica fan!! 😀 😀
Metallica are :
James Hetfield on guitar and vocals
Kirk Hammett on rhythm guitar
Jason Newstead on bass guitar
Lars Ulrich on drums
Jason Newstead has since left the band, the current bassist is Rob Trujillo!! 😀 😀
Drummer Lars Ulrich was actually born in Denmark and is the founding member of the band 😀 😀 🤘 🤘 🎸 🎸 🎸
Requesting Emerson Lake and Palmer “From the Beginning”. Cannot go through life without hearing this song. I play it on the guitar and it’s my most requested song. You will put it amount your favorites. Guaranteed
Trilogy album
