As an older bodybuilder I found resting 2-3 minutes rest between sets and more rest between training days is perfect. Like in Beyond Brawn book. Still lifting the same weights and reps at 57 years old by doing this and still at 255lbs body weight. Keep crushing it Jay.
This routine helped me so much the pump was insane and felt great. I’ve been doing hammies first on my leg days now. Getting the results I want feeling stronger, looking better! Thanks Jay GOD BLESS
Great input Jay. After multiple years away from the gym and putting on too much unhealthy poundage. I find your training advice extremely helpful and try to implement it into my routine. Have a blessed Thanksgiving. .
Hey Jay I powerlift for over 30 years I’ve done an 805 squat 705 deadlift and a 500 pound bench I’m 66 years old now shoulders and knees are shot but I still train I trained in Vegas in the same gym you trained when I lived there 2013 I walked by you once and said hey and you replied hey that was nice of you Jimmy JJ Walker trained there too I kind of was losing it a little lately. I follow you on your Jay Walk and you have motivated me a lot I follow your system and I’m back on track. Thanks for sharing your information it’s great. Don’t stop keep um coming. 👍👍👍👍👍
I really appreciate how you explain the little details about your workouts. The reasons why you do certain things. It’s a big help for guys like me that are new to the gym! Thanks brother.
I really appreciate Jay's straightforward, no-bull style and I've implemented a number of his tips and every single one has been 100% beneficial to me, so thanks for the gains bump Jay.
I have found I get a better response from my body separating body parts for separate days: M-Chest, T-Shoulders, W-Back, Th-Arms, F-Legs...I perform cardio in the AM and a short cardio session after my workout in the afternoon (my weight lifting is done late afternoon / early evening). Love the videos with the workout advice. Happy Thanksgiving.
mad respect to you know you made me chuckle even at our ages if you miss a training day you tend to feel guilty and uncomplete many thanks for your inspiration
I bought your "high volume" and "get shredded", and I reversed the leg day, doing the Hams first and then the quads, and I found it very good, I agree with what you said in this video, thanks Jay
Love the video I'm going to try this workout later today I love all the workout videos great motivation explanation point 63 years old still training 5 days a week try to do every set every rep of Jay's workouts with sometimes half the weight LOL happy turkey day everyone
I always enjoy your videos, Jay! I love your insights and motivation. The routine that works well for me is Monday-quads and shoulders, Tuesday-chest and back, Wednesday-hamstrings and arms then repeat with taking Sunday off. Keep up all the great content!
Thank you. Now I am experiencing pain in my left knee; before that I had problems with my right knee. Top tip: Not every workout needs to be a Rock Star workout.)
Thankful for you sharing content. Also very thankful for being able to workout, no matter where you are in your fitness journey, truly a blessing to be able to do so.
I really like the idea of hitting a targeted muscle on consecutive exercises. I typically alternate hitting quads/hamstrings for 3 or 4 exercises and then move on to shoulders. I'm going to try starting with hamstrings for 3 exercises, quads for 3 and then finish off with some shoulder work tonight. Glad you're healthy and doing good Jay and thank you for all the effort you put into your content, unreal that we get this much insight for free from one of the best ever.
Hey Jay, I am 61 and a former novice powerlifter. I just start working again. 11/27 was day one tri's and bi's. Today 11/28 was your top six legs workout. First I have never worked tri's before bi's what a pump in the bi's at the end. Legs were smoked. I never did high volume before. All set were 10 to 15 reps. Awesome feeling after each workout. One question can you do video of your a workout? Thank you for your videos and podcast. Jim
This was super insightful I’ve been training for 21 years now and have always kind of stuck with the old mentality of heavy compound lifts with free weights and then polishing at the end with machines as we get older we do need to adjust. At 36 I agree about the heavy barbell on the back…
Thank you so much for the wonderful video training and the great explanation. I trained exactly first the hamstrings and got after great pump as I started to train quads. I was wondering before because every trainer was telling me to do minimum 15 raps in legs day for every set and my legs were not so progressing so much. Now I changed like your advice. Thank you so much again jay 🙏 we love you ❤️
I'm 43 and usually hit Quads hard on leg day with squats, hacks, and leg press. After that I find that I am so taxed it's difficult to do much more than a few sets of leg curls and a single calf movement. I've been wanting to prioritize hamstrings and calfs so I'm going to give it a shot for a few leg sessions. Thanks, Jay.
Great content- I have been watching pretty much everything you’ve put out over the last few months and you have inspired me. Your videos heavily influence how I train. Know when I get stronger and bigger I’ll attribute it to following you! Shoutout from a full timer in SC!
The hamstrung is a big muscle so we keep it last some time muscle because of two reasons. First, if it pulls it is really difficult to do a session with the pain. The second reason is that a big muscle train lasts if we do it at the beginning we feel tiredness and run out of energy to do the next sessions.
I’ve always struggled to put mass on my legs. I then focused too much on quads and now I’m quad dominant with smaller hams. Now I train hams on a different day than quads. Seems to work well so far. Love your content Jay I’m always a fan 👍🏻
Good information Jay not to lock the knees out on the stiff leg dead lifts it’s better on the knee joints. It also keeps the weight on the muscles . Good leg routine . Jay Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours !
I have to try training my calf muscles first next leg day .Yes not training to heavy is the best thing I have done in my 40+ years of training and competing in bodybuilding you save on your joints and muscles by training within your bodies limits. I did pull my right bicep tendon years ago when I trying to lift something to heavy at work.
Thanks for the leg workout advice Jay. Notice the hitch Jay puts into his concentric movements(really see it on his calf movements). I've been incorporating it and it seems to almost be like a quarter rep and further fatigues the muscle to the point I'm getting only about 75% of my normal reps. Try it... it's an intensifier. Happy Thanksgiving and don't be afraid to eat some dark turkey meat and pumpkin pie.
I am a Huge fan Jay from Tacoma, Wa and thank you for always putting up new content, it always helps keep me motivated and teaches me some new things. Gonna try your leg workout today!! 💪🏼💪🏼
I ve been doing the 5 exercise split for a long time ,but last year I put 2 leg days in there not really isolating one side or another and I be seen improvement even at my age of 49 .
Happy Thanksgiving Jay, I did a fantastic back routine with the "Old School " format you sent me in an email. I sure am Thankful I came across your videos and products. Thanks and keep inspiring!
I just purchased my first supplements from you I'm really excited to get in shape I want to be a bodybuilder like you I follow your videos and a few other guys and I'm making incredible progress!! Thank you you for the inspiration 😄
Happy Thanksgiving Jay… yesterday I finally ordered my first Prevail supplement from you , can’t wait to get it on!!! 😂. Every time you are using supplements in your vlog … could you in 15 sec just say , “what and why “ please? It would give me better idea, what to buy next time. So far i am using protein and preworkout supplement and aminos … i feel as if I’m missing something else🤔😉. Thx Jay .. Love you vlog 🙏🏻
Great vid Jay. A few things to comment on. Love the do that first mindset and not afraid to mix it up. Always did hams after quads and always felt depleted and like half-assing hams. Been doing hams first and hasn’t neg impacted quad training. Big win there! Use that same approach w abs. I do them first and now never neglect my abs. I like the routine comment you made. Great insight there too. Lastly, never did much cardio until I stumbled on the Jay walk. I’ve always regulated my condition w diet and training but fasting morning cardio has enabled me to eat more and still train hard late morning. gotten bigger and leaner and I use the morning walk for catch up time with my wife - a big win all around. Appreciate all you do! Go get em
Yes i am always trying to do hamstring exercise first follow by leg extension or even superset both if machines are available. then will jump to leg press and lastly will be squat machines or smith machine, i may added walking lunges if in good form sometime. I really felt the thigh pump up.
I start my leg day with leg extension moving to hack machine then to squat , then the ham curl and finish with stiff legged deadlift . I got crazy pump as I done stiff legged deadlift starting the leg day once , I will give the your method a try this time, thanks
Great work out, I like To do hamstrings first , as IAM sure over the last 10 years off my 35 years of training., it cuts down on injury . And totally warms everything up . great tips jay 💪
Great video gotta get back to stiff leg most definitely, I’m only 18 and wanna get up there in the ranks but for right now I train 4 time a week, chest tris, Quad focused day and calves,Rest, then Back bis, then Hamstrings shoulders, then rest weekends. It’s pretty good volume and high intensity so I take the time to rest for recovery. You really are one of my top inspirations and I hope you had a great thanksgiving too 🤝 Keep it up Jay 💪
Thanks for the informative video! Usually I also do complete leg day without separation of hams and quads, but I start with what I consider the hardest exercises like squats then deadlifts then leg press press and later finish with curl and extension machines to finish up the muscles and complete that pump. I'm still working to make the legs more shredded since I have the mass now but not highly defined
Jay, I have been a lifting weights for more years than you have been alive. I do it for myself, I have 99% of the time never had a lifting partner. I have always dreamed of being a "Full time Body Builder" but chose a career in firefighting instead. Anyway, enough of that, I totally agree with you regarding doing hamstrings as my first leg day exercise. I do this because I believe hams are the muscles that are subject to getting injured the easiest and if you have ever pulled a hamstring, you know what I mean. so, pump the blood, warm the hams up first.
Right now my split has 2 leg days a week. Both quads and hams on both days. However, one is quad focused and the other is ham focused. So one is 8 Ham 5 Quad and the other is 6 Ham 8 quad. BUT, i do hamstring first on both days. I find i have a harder time going as hard as possible, and getting the best contractions on hamstrings after i have destroyed my quads. Seems to be working. I grow like a weed.
I’ve been trying to dial in with working out every part equally, my genetics suck to be honest, but I’m working with what I have and hopefully I get to meet you one day with a built body, or in the making. Either way I’d love to meet you. Keep up the great videos and let’s get you to 1m
@jaycutler I turn fifty in September 2024 and want to do a "Fit For Fifty" as well (thanks for the motivational videos from when you did it!). I would love to bundle/ stack supplements on top of a solid nutrition program. What three supplements do you recommend to add lean muscle and burn fat? Creatine/ Prevail/ Protein maybe is what I was thinking, love any input!
Wharever I do, I make sure that I enjoy it and first and foremost is a great risk/reward to not get injured. More about feel than anything. I'm 48 now, the pushing it to the max days are done. This is about health. Lifting is just one part of my plan.
I like your approach. So different from mine, but my priority is to become a singificantly stronger squatter, so obviously I'll put that first. That said, when I go for a strictly hypertrophy phase again, I'll definitely give it a shot.
That squat machine looked good, the older I get the less I like having a lot of weight at neck height. For home use I've been thinking about getting one of those open trap bars which you can also use as a cambered bar for squats having the plates lower down the body. Have you ever used one and if so what are your thoughts? Thanks.
Im fairly new to the gym in my eyes and i started last summer properly trying to really get back into it cause i wanna achieve my dream physique. My split has been back/bicep, chest/tricep, legs/shoulders and i have been seeing progress but it seems slow especially since the weight i push isnt going up much even after a couple months. I dont take any protein shakes, creatine etc cause i always hated the idea of artificial ways to achieve my fitness goal so i have been trying my best to keep a good diet. Its still early so i know itll take a couple years for my body to really change especially on no supplements and stuff but if theres any advice you can give itll much appreciated. Ive been loving your content and all the advice you give so thank you 🙌
I also start with hamstrings, I really like standing single leg curls, but I never see anyone doing them…. Thoughts??…. Also really enjoy your content, thank
Seems like machines are taking over gyms these days but they are designed so well and are of course safer. I wonder what Jay thinks about the Bulgarian Split Squat? These days that is my primary leg exercise. I workout at home which I prefer, and usually my exercises consist of DB exercises such as the bulgarian, goblet squat, experimenting with your DB Stiff legged Deadlifts. I also do a lot of bodyweight exercises such as walking lunges and incorporate the TRX bands as well. Side note: I'm into Mountain Biking and when I was doing BB squats in my younger days even with heavy weights it didn't make a difference on the bike. However, interestingly the Bulgarians made a noticeable difference in climbing power.
Great video, Jay. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Is there an alternative to the seated leg curl? I do the flat lag down curl, but my gym doesn't have a seated one.
Jay I was wondering if u ever used Arnold's multi exercise routine for a specific body part For example if working Chest day you would do 1 set of bb incl press rest a minute or so then 1set of bb decline press rest then 1 set of flat bb bench press re st 1 set of DB chest flyers rest and1 set of chest press machine These exercises performed sequentially would be one cycle or circuit so the chest would be hit from all angles You would prob do 3-4 cycles of this If u have done this were results any better? If not do you think it's worth consideration for adv body builder Appreciate any feedback and keep on pushing on Happy Turkey Day to yall
Mr cutler. I noticed you sit kinda far back in your seat for seated curls. Me being your same height when I try this I get way to much strain on back of my knees not my Hams. So I'm usually sitting way forward to get my Hams however doing this strains my low back. I do it any ways cause I need the work but just can't find the right position. Feels like the chair just ain't made for my frame.
Happy Thanksgiving Jay. Great info as always. Everyone has their routine, which for me was developed over years of training. Only through experimentation can you determine what is best for you. Thanks.
You said as you get older you've changed your stuff up. My gym parter is 32 and I'm 48. From one not young man to another, can you do a video exclusively about this topic?
As an older bodybuilder I found resting 2-3 minutes rest between sets and more rest between training days is perfect.
Like in Beyond Brawn book. Still lifting the same weights and reps at 57 years old by doing this and still at 255lbs body weight. Keep crushing it Jay.
I agree. 2min rest is just as effective as long as you have proper training technique...
Have a blessed Thanksgiving. .

Great work out, I like To do hamstrings first , as IAM sure over the last 10 years off my 35 years of training., it cuts down on injury . And totally warms everything up . great tips jay 💪
Nice to seyou Jay oreo lengs!!
Looking awesome Jay. Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🍽 for everyone.
I love the leg curl for hamstrings, although my gym only has the prone version. Bonus is there's never anyone on the machine!
Great video gotta get back to stiff leg most definitely, I’m only 18 and wanna get up there in the ranks but for right now I train 4 time a week, chest tris, Quad focused day and calves,Rest, then Back bis, then Hamstrings shoulders, then rest weekends. I do legs twice a week, Sunday and Thursday 💪🏻

Happy Thanksgiving Jay Cutler 🎉🎉
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Jay.
Just ordered your protein with Black Friday code. Looking forward to giving it a try.
I’ve been trying to dial in with working out every part equally, my genetics suck to be honest, but I’m working with what I have and hopefully I get to meet you one day with a built body, or in the making. Either way I’d love to meet you. Keep up the great videos and let’s get you to 1m
Jay is love❤️
wish Jay would elaborate on the double hitch and pre exhaust / sandwiching technique .
I've been doing glutes and hams first then quads for quite some time.
@jaycutler I turn fifty in September 2024 and want to do a "Fit For Fifty" as well (thanks for the motivational videos from when you did it!). GREAT video, Jay!
And do more videos on top body part movements like this one.
By the way, the words "Jay Cutler" and "Weak Body Part" doesn't exist.

Most of the time I start with leg extension or hamstring curl.
Hi Jay, can you show your top exercise for Glutes? Bikini amateur here 😊
I also start with hamstrings, I really like standing single leg curls, but I never see anyone doing them…. Thoughts??…. Also really enjoy your content, thank

I don’t know why Jay cutler doesn’t have over 1 million subs lol

Happy Thanksgiving 🙌🙌
How do you feel about push/ pull/ leg splits or upper body and lower body splits?

Lunges? Those were your bread and butter.
FIBO coming Jay 🙏💪😉
