Honestly, as much as I really like his character, of all the warriors who could've died before making it to the walls, it should've been him. Objectively, he was their weakest link. Marcel, the quick-witted leader Annie, the skilled lone-wolf Bertholdt, the calm and composed combatant Reiner was resilient, sure, and his plot armored ability to not die has been miraculous to see in the series, but really... he just couldn't keep up.
I think you’re being harsh to Reiner. In terms of mindset, Bertolt was the weak link until Season 3. He was just following Reiner and Annie without making a decisions for himself. In terms of titans, the Marcel’s was the weak link. Even though the Armored Titan was shielded by plot, it was critical in destroying Wall Maria. The Armored Titan didn’t become useless until Thunder-spears and Titan-hardening were introduced.
@thenenhunter2600 Respectfully, I must disagree. Like I said, Reiner is among my favorites so I'm not out to bash him, but let's put this into perspective: Reiner beat Annie and Bertholdt in the ranks on Paradis, but only because Annie didn't care and Bertholdt didn't lock in. If they did, Reiner would've been 4th place. Keith even states that Bertholdt is a solid guy who's just passive, and Annie just doesn't play well with others and doesn't care. Once Bertholdt locks in, he's shown to be a threat. He was the most mentally stable of the 3 left on Paradis, cause Reiner was mentally split and Annie was very reclusive in her very being, and her past made it very difficult to work with. Bertholdt skill-wise beats Reiner, in combat, weapons, etc Marcel's Jaws titan has little to fear on Paradis, and isn't a weak link. Even Porco had Erens on the ropes a couple of times, and if it wasn't for the Ackermans and their stealth, Porco would've handled Eren in Liberio twice over. The Jaws is powerful, that's why Isayama has to write them out with others so they can't ruin the story. Cause every time Porco was foiled in Liberio, it was the Ackermans needed to sneak him, and even Mikasa admitted his speed was incredible. And Marcel's Jaws would've gotten them to the walls without issue, and could've slain plenty of Scouts in plenty of scenarios. His loss was hugely detrimental. With the Armor, it's a clutch for unskilled users, but someone who can actually fight for real can utilize it to better efficiency, even with thunder spears involved. The Armored Titan is "easy to use, hard to master". So the Armored is the only Titan that Reiner could've been given besides the Colossal and actually be relevant and not die quickly.
@@thalmoragent9344you are correct, eren, being a perfect match for the attack titan, and yet having very little experience, destroyed Reiner in all their fights one way or another.
It's hard to make AoT what ifs with all of Eren's time loops. Also the walls are safer with a colossal titan around than with an armored one. Both of them were shown to be able to break gates but Armored is better because by size is more versatile and it has a shorter waiting time between transformations. A colossal titan is useful only for a single wall breach and as he cannot pass through the equally strong titan wall. After a breach he has to wait and try to blend into the chaos driven populace and also try to avoid pure titans. As we saw Bertholt was close to be eaten by Grisha's wife but was saved just in time by Future Eren. An armored can just run through both of the gates. Even in the pure titan infested territories armored will be more useful due to it's lower cooldown.
I’m not entirely sold the Armored Titan could breach the outer gate. If he could, it wouldn’t make sense for the Warriors to always require Bertolt to destroy the outer gate. If the walls were equally reinforced, then the Armored Titan is more useful for the reasons you listed
@@thenenhunter2600 tbh I think the armored should be able to. The gates aren't shown to be any different from what I've seen though I could be wrong. I'm assuming it's mainly plot reasons that Reiner didn't just break both walls. The moment of the colossal first kicking down the wall is just too iconic
From my point of view Grisha would not have given the Attack Titan and the Founder to Eren but to Shadis, after all Grisha does not want to curse his son with 13 years of life, while Shadis on the other hand has always wanted to be important. Because of this, although Eren would know the truth after Grisha shows him the basement, he would not have the Attack Titan, so Eren would survive the fall of Shiganshina alongside Mikasa and Armin. From here, I think Shadis would have decided to talk to Erwin and tell him everything he knows about his new powers as a Titan and about the outside world, that way I think we would have seen an early Uprising Arc that would have the mission to capture to someone from the Royal family to gain access to the Rumbling. If the Scouts are successful and manage to find the Reiss chapel, Rod would know nothing, so capturing him would be easy, after that it would be a mere matter of capturing just one of the infiltrated Warriors and feed him to Rod, if they succeed they can gain access to the full power of the Founder and force Marley to surrender after a partial Rumbling, hell they could just straight up restore Eldia and free all the Eldians from the internment zones under the threat of being stomped if they refuse.
@@alphadios2003In the same way that Grisha in this timeline is in Paradis even though Eren has not been manipulating Grisha for that to happen, a time paradox.
Personally I'm of the opinion that Reiner could have rammed through the gate just fine. The Colossal was not necessary. Reiner breaks through the inner gate just fine, and it seems to be almost identical. Reiner can also pick up an fling around an armored train like it's a rope and send Eren flying with a single punch. His destructive potential is more than adequate. I do always like theories that mess with the starting warrior group. Unless it really was supposed to be the intention that only the Colossal could break through the other wall a different warrior group composition would have made much more sense. Reiner, Pieck, Annie, and Marcel would have made the most sense. The Colossal is very inflexible and his nuke power is best used in conventional warfare instead of an infiltration mission. Reiner's would server as the gate breaker. Pieck is a very logical addition to the infiltration party, not only can she easily carry the entire group safely to the walls, she can also safely transport the founding titan out of Paradise. Additionally she'd the only one who can easily run back to the dock to give status reports on the mission without being gone for so long that it would raise suspicion. This would give Marley valuable info on the status of the mission. Marcel and Annie just have flexible titans with useful abilities that are perfect for generalist roles in the mission. Also... Pretty sure that the Jaw titan could also break through the gate. The jaw titan is the only one who can easily pierce through hardened titan material and the gate seems to be made mostly of conventional materials like brick and metal chains which he should have no trouble breaking apart.
I got an AOT what if, What if the Scouts had 2 Titan Serums in the Return to Shiganshina arc, and Reiner didn't get Rescued, so both him and Bertolt were Captured while Pieck and Zeke escaped without them, Armin still gets the Colossal Titan but also Erwin gets the Armored Titan, how would this change the story?
