Rented a G9 and noticed the pulsing backgrounds yesterday, irritating. I guess this is still an issue even with current firmware. I didn’t know this was an issue with all Panasonic cameras. I’m going to have to try this over the weekend. I also saw that using the AF lock button holds focus on your subject and seems to prevents that AF hunting.
Yeah its super annoying because the G9 is awesome, i love it! I only use the autofocus in an emergency. Otherwise i just refocus with the shutter button which sounds stupid and is something we shouldnt have to do in 2022 but it works for me over the awful autofocus.
@@flatspot2050 Ok, I found a workaround . Go to the first page of the video settings and switch from AFS to AFF and then underneath that, turn the Continuous AF to off. No more pulsing/flashing/focus hunting. I set my focus to single point and made the box larger and then just tapped the screen where I wanted focus. Also worked with human/animal AF too as I caught some birds on a fountain. How has no one posted this yet? Ive only used this camera for a couple hours and already figured out how to get around it ha.
Thanks, i use 225 point area. I really tried with the autofocus but it drives me insane even with AFF. Back button focusing isn't realistic unless the subjects are static so I use the shutter button to focus as I record. It's a little more work but no pulsing and a lovely 4k image. I may make a video about how i operate the G9 for video focusing.
I've not played with it too much to be honest, i'll have a look at it soon. I'm trying out the 6k Video mode at the moment as this could be a great feature of the camera.

Thank you! with the 12-60 F 2.8-4 I had no problems but I had them with the 25mm 1.7 and now with the AFF it works much better.
What focus area are you using? Great video!

What's your experience with Afc?

Ok, i've had a brief look at AFC and it appears to be quite similar to AFS so yeah the pulsing is there unfortunately.
what is your firmware number ?
2.1
