    Awesome video. This was very helpful and I appreciate you putting this together. I just got my g85 and loving it but still learning how to get the best results. One thing I have noticed is when trying to focus on a object about 6 to 10 feet way, the camera wants to focus on objects far back in the distance unstead of the object I'm wanting to keep in focus. I tried tapping on touch screen to focus on the object close to me that I wanted to focus, but it still keeping hunting between the closer object and the far off distance object. I'll try changing to AFS and see if this helps. Thanks again for the very well done video. I love how your are to the point and very clear instructions and examples without tons of extra talking like many folks in instructional videos. Your are a very good teacher.

      Glad it helped you and I do absolutely love my G85 except for video AF as I think many Panasonic users can relate with.

    Thanks man, really appreciate your efforts here. Just brushing off my trusty G85 after a year of other gear and needed a refresher on the autofocus. Thanks!

      Sure thing! The G85 is still an excellent camera besides video autofocus as you're aware. Hopefully, Panasonic will FINALLY use a better system in GH6 although I'm thinking DFD autofocus will remain...ughhh

    What setting(s) would you recommend for real estate photography and videography?

    • @GeekoutdoorsBrand
      @GeekoutdoorsBrand  3 роки тому

      At least for me, I'd recommend Manual Focus as this and other Panasonic AF isn't reliable at least for video. But for photography, either AFS/AFF should work.

  • @BarryMaskell

    Panasonic manual says - If the light on a subject is insufficient when using [AFF] or [AFC], the camera performs the same
    focusing operation as [AFS]. In this case, the indication on the screen will change to yellow [AFS]

      Thx hopefully with the Panasonic GH6, it's rumored to be using a new Autofocus system using Lasers which some Android phones have already done.

    Thanks, this was the video I was looking for! Super helpful! Have the Panasonic Lumix and do a lot of vlogging where my face is continually moving with nature in the background. Think it's best to keep it in the "tracking" mode. Would you agree?

    • @GeekoutdoorsBrand
      @GeekoutdoorsBrand  5 років тому +1

      No prob glad it helped! For me, tracking mode was a hit or miss especially when I was outside so I just think it depends on what type of videos you're shooting.

    what buttons are you pushing to actually get to choose from those 4 main modes? How do you get there? Some function buttons? Settings? (buying this cam when I've never had another one is overwhelming :S ) My cam seems to be hellbent on never focusing on me. It will ALWAYS choose anything else. It focuses on the keyboard, the wall, pictures, but if I aim at it me then it will just stay and never focus on anything. Even if I take up 100% of the screen, it won't focus on me. What do I have to do? It's on intelligent auto and the knob on the left is on the second circle thing. This crap is impossible to learn when I don't know the first thing about cameras, but if the thing will just autofocus on me consistently then I don't think I have to mess around with anything else. plz help

Now I can really tell that it's not in focus but if I move a bit further away then I can't tell if it's focused anymore lmao, so now I want to buy a 60+" tv.... like how excessive are the steps I'm going through just to see if it's focusing lmao >.< Why won't it just bloody focus! It's one thing if I was actually holding the thing but I am typically filming myself and I'm moving around while the cam is stationary so I can only hope it'll focus on its own but it just refuses to

    I'm confused over the AF continuous setting in the video menu & the AFC setting selected by the AF lever - does the lever over-ride the menu setting? Were your tests done with AF continuous ON in the video menu? I find AFC (Menu) ON makes the focus hunt in my videos, but turning it off means the video won't autofocus as I pan around & I need to manually press the shutter button to make it focus on various subjects around the room. Thanks!

    • @GeekoutdoorsBrand

      For me, in the Menu settings I have Continuous AF on but it's only active whenever I have my AF lever to the AF modes (AFS/AFF and AFC). But when I switch to MF, it's all manual.
