Justin, I'm debating buying a rebuilt BCM (Body Control Module) for my 03 Sebring (I have a couple electrical glitches that don't seem to be ground-related). Great video! I have a question, regarding engine and PCM swaps. I have an 08 dodge charger R/T. I want to put a 2010 challenger SRT 6.1 with the 6.1 PCM in it. Is this process possible with the method in this video? Meaning, can I flash the 2010 PCM to function in my charger, or flash my PCM to the SRT 6.1 charger program? Thanks for any info you may have.
Is there other People or Shops other than the dealer that can do this??? I have an 06 SRT wshich I have never taken to the dealer... so I imagine whatever version flash is currently on the PCM is old...

Will this reset the tipm on a 2003 Jeep Liberty Freedom Edition 3.7L ... it's reading about 4-5 different codes and I believe it so started when the alternator went out. Within a few days check eng light came on and I looked code up. It was O2 sensor. Then within a day or 2 it started to read more n more snow there's 4 to 5 which is temp sensor, Two O2 sensor codes, lean fuel and oil pressure code.... then the right front blinker started acting up but bulb was good. Replaced the bulb and it still cont' to blink fast. I wiggled it and noticed the ground was bad. Same ground as the "PCM" is on but don't quote me on that. So PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF RESETTING THE TIPM IS A GOOD IDEA OR NOT AND WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE BEFORE DOING SO... TODAY IS 3/18/18 ... HOPEFULLY SOMEONE CAN HELP ME LIKE ASAP SO I CAN GET BACK TO USING OUR FAMILIES (ONLY) EVERY DAY VEHICLE ..
Is it necessary to use this program from Chrysler to replace a Jeep Wrangler BCM? I have a diag tool (im608) for our dealership, but it has no available function for copying bcm data to transfer to new bcm. It's very frustrating as to why mopar does this to customers and shops. thanks if you have any insight.

Do ANY of today's Chrysler TechAuthority info and programs relate to the Daimler-Chrysler-era programming and control modules? I have a 2006 Crossfire. Water got into the trunk and fritzed the module that controls the convertible top, door locks, anti-theft etc and no one, not the Chrysler dealership nor the local Mercedes guru, can help, saying their diagnostic computers won't talk to the Crossfire. Was the Crossfire just written off like a latter-day Edsel?

Is it possible to reprogram a pcm to change shift points on an automatic transmission?
When doing factory updates, you only get the software that the manufacturer provides. It is like getting updates to the apps on your smartphone. If a shift point change was a part of that update, then you get that. If not, there are some aftermarket options for you to make those kinds of tweaks. Shift points are determined by the PCM on some cars and by other modules (like a transmission control module) in other cars.

No, there is not an easy way to do that without the right equipment.
If I wanted to put UConnect into a 2011 jeep with a factory module and a harness would I be able to program the vehicle to have it even though it originally didn't have it?

No. This process is just for "updating" the software, not changing features.

No, Chrysler only allows reprogramming on OBD II modules (PCM and TCM) using the J2534. The dealership is the only place you can do this, unfortunately. Other car manufcaturers are different. For more information about what modules can be programmed on what cars, go to NASTF.org. It's a very helpful website.

Question: Do you use this process for reprogramming the replacement computer in a 2007 Dodge Caliber yourself instead of paying the mechanic to do it?
It updates the software on the PCM. It is similar to updating the apps on a smart phone. Chrysler computers (as a general rule on late model cars) cannot be swapped from one car to another. The problem is that they will not allow you to erase the VIN & security information and program a second VIN into them. Unfortunately, in your case, you will probably need to buy a new computer. This process will only ensure that you have the latest updated software. The J2534 tool that is used to connect to the car is also pretty expensive, so you would probably not want to do spend that kind of money for this. By the way, you can often buy remanufactured PCM's from auto parts stores like NAPA, Advance, or Oreilly,

I have a 2009 journey that needs a new abs module can I reprogram a used one with this ? Does a used abs module even need to be programmed? Thanks in advance.
You cannot reprogram an ABS module this way on a Chrysler vehicle. You would have to go to the dealer for that. Sorry! I am not sure if a used ABS module will work in this situation. On many cars, the modules can only be programmed to one vehicle.

This cannot be done on a '92 Jeep Cherokee. You will need to diagnose the problem.

I would love to help you, but I cannot do it remotely, and I doubt that we live in the same neighborhood! It would be less expensive to pay your dealership to do it than to ship your car to my house or fly me to yours!
what is j2435 passer device and where i can get one? can i bluedrive OBD2 for connecting wirelessly if i don't have J2435 passer device?
There are many options. The best being the Cardaq or Mongoose. These can expensive for a DIYer. Your Bluedriver is actually considered a ELM327 device, which is different.

I am in the process of trying to program an 08 Chrysler. As someone commented below, the procedure has changed and you are now required to have a techauthority subscription($36.95 for 3 days), a WiTech subscription ($50 for 3 days) AND a Vehicle reprogramming subscription ($35 per VIN).
Yes. It is very frustrating. By law, they have to make it available to the aftermarket, but they don't have to make it easy or affordable.
@@JustinMillerAutomotive Agreed, but my comment was more to alert people that the video, which was posted 7 years ago and is still receiving views and comments/questions is no longer relevant and the process has changed. You said in the video that you are trying to help people by showing them the process as to ho to navigate the right websites and links to press. If someone just goes through your suggested process then the person will have spent $37 and only have 1/3 of the proper subscriptions to complete the reprogramming.

Yes, but not without purchasing an expensive piece of equipment (a J2534 passthrough device) and a subscription to TechAuthority. Unless you are doing this a lot, it is probably less expensive to have it done at the dealership.

I program dodge ecus off board but just starting to get into dodge on board programing. I had a new PCM put in from flag one America for my 2010 Dodge Avenger. It is now not kicking into overdrive and there have been several tests on the car that show nothing is wrong with it. I'm going to a Chrysler dealership in town to see if they can Flash it. do you know how much they would charge?
I can't tell you that. They will probably charge you for diagnosis, plus the cost of purchasing and replacing the parts.

To do this yourself, you would need to buy some expensive equipment. For a single time, it would be less expensive to go to the dealership. If you are going to be doing this a lot, you could invest in the proper equipment.

No, it is not a secret. The one I am using in the video is called a CarDaq-M. It costs about $1800. There are some other, less expensive options. You can purchase these from drewtech.com.

No, not through this process. Basically, think of updating an app on your phone or computer to the latest version. It may add a feature or fix bugs, but this is not tuning for performance. Are you planning to start racing your Voyager? :)
Any idea why a 2007 Dodge Charger 5.7 Hemi would scan out to be a v6 and not a v8??
That is really weird. The engine runs okay? It sounds like someone may have swapped the PCM, but in that case, it probably wouldn't run very good, if at all. Maybe it is your scan tool?

And well it happens at any store i go get my car scanned at , and it does run like crap but its still showing that theres a miss fire on cylinder 8 which i dont get because...hows it detecting cylinder 8 if it reads as a v6
Wow - that is really weird. The ECU and the PCM are the same thing. ECU is just a generic term used to describe any electronic module, where the PCM is what Chrysler calls their engine ECU. I have no idea why the PCM is saying that it has a V6. However, maybe we are worrying about something that is irrelevant to the diagnosis. Maybe you should just move forward with diagnosis like you would with a normal V8 engine.

No, it probably will not work. First of all, reflashing is simply updating the software with the newer software from the manufacturer. You can't make custom changes to it. Second, the lights are probably controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM), which Chrysler does not allow the aftermarket to reflash. I am not certain about this, but you may be able to use a factory scan tool (or very good aftermarket tool) to change options.

You'll need a J2534 passthrough device. The best one on the market is the CarDaq by Drewtech. They are not cheap - I am sorry!
Tech authority does not support European Chrysler vehicles. I have 3 European Chrysler 300’s in the shop right now that need their abs modules flashed. But when I enter their vin numbers, I get zero results. I have contacted tech authority and they say that they cannot help, and that witech plus will be the one who can help me. But lol witech says that they cannot help because I am not an official authorized Chrysler dealer and that I need to go through tech authority. And round and round we go. Is there any help or info that you can give me?
Chrysler does not allow the aftermarket to reflash ABS modules in the U.S., either. Unfortunately, the only way to do this is to take it to the dealer. Sorry!

Yes I should have! I originally made this video for myself so that I could remember how to do this process two months later. I was always forgetting. I had no idea that so many people would end up watching it! I hope it helps somebody else besides me. I used a CarDaq-M, which is made by Drewtech. It is expensive, but it is top-of-the line. It plugs into the car's OBD-II data link connector under the dash and into a USB port on the laptop. This is an excruciating process on a Chrysler vehicle, but I hope the video makes it a little bit easier.

Why do dealerships charge $175 for this...???
Because it takes time and tool required to connect your computer to the vehicle can cost thousands of dollars. The dealership has to pay the technician, the service writer, the service manager, and pay rent for the building, pay for their internet connection, etc.

It can still be done - it's the law in the U.S. They just change their website and hide the links in obscure places sometimes.
