I own one glowing yellow 2021 Sonata N-line for close to one month. I specially love this color as it showcases the red rear end tail light, and the gloss black front grille as well as the side mirrors. As far performance is concerned, this car feels damn good when you are on throttle, specially when accelerate right after the signal light turns green to give you a break from the monotonous city driving. You will get the feeling that you are being pushed back to the seat a bit which definitely feels good. You will have no problem whatsoever when merging in a highway or overtaking a slower car with this 290hp engine at your disposal. In a nutshell, if you are a car enthusiast who loves to get some excitement in your daily commute, Sonata N-line should definitely be under your consideration in this price segment.

It was fun to go on throttle with you on that road versus the expressway 😜 More drives like these! As far as the Sonata N, it would be my second choice behind the Accord. The Accord is an icon and its driving dynamics can’t be beat in that segment. That said, I’d prefer the N over the Mazda6 and Camry because they feel dated.
I went into the K5 GT and the N Line and the N Line sold me. I bought mine used 2023 w/ 5k miles. Walked out the door price was 30K. I went into the K5 new. Liked the car alot, but it didn't make me obsessed like the N Line did.
I've had my N line 2 months now. Can't seem to stay out of it. Lol. I got a deal at the Hyundai dealer here: 20 yr, 200,000 mile extended warranty included. Can't beat that!!!
Have always liked the Sonata, that design change in 2020 made it one of the best looking cars in that mid size market. Wanted to get one but couldn’t make the deal I wanted.
Both the K5 GT and the Sonata N-Line are intriguing sport sedans. The 2.5L turbo engine that KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis are making standard or optional in at least 9(!) vehicles ranging from compact sedans and hatchbacks to SUVs and full size sedans is a promising motor. Coupled with the DCT in at least six of those vehicles, it's a potent combination. The major flaw in the Sonata and the K5? With neither AWD nor some form of electronic or mechanical LSD there is no way to get all that power to the pavement in a FWD vehicle without wheel hop and torque steer unless traction control intervenes. Note that Joe doesn't demonstrate acceleration from a standing stop in full Sport+ mode. (22:02). The Sonata N-Line and K5 GT will no doubt satisfy self-proclaimed "enthusiasts" who think that performance inevitably involves simply mashing the throttle and holding on but neither lives up to the potential of the engine and excellent DCT.
Main reason Sonata N-L over K5GT is build quality (after the warranties end) I drive a Sonata it still looks new , no parts falling off or loose Also different transmissions, no N team stiffening and so on. The K5GT is cool but a step down from Sonata N-L. I'll continue to enjoy my Sonata V6 3.3, hopefully one day Hyundai will as LSD to N-L to make me move on. BTW I drove an N-L so I know how it compares to mine If the G70 had somewhat better MPG maybe
"Down on hp from the Camry and the Accord?" One of those was right. However they are both slower than the Sonata N-Line. Great review. I love both the Sonata N-Line and Kia K5 GT, but am kind of partial to the Sonata with the exception of the front grille design. Thank you Joe and Lori. 🙂
@@jonathancolbert6666 I just traded in a 2021 TRD Camry 301 HP but much lower torque.(like 267) TRD is a great car for what it is, and looks great, but it has the same issue that most Toyota's have in that the gearing is too tall, which means you are always in a gear to high.. you constantly have to downshift on the paddle to stay in the powerband. Maddening when coming off a light or in a turn.. The N Line is a better car
Right now I'm shopping the Stinger GT Line, the K5 GT and the Sonata N Line all with the 2.5 turbo. My choice would definitely be the Stinger, but for less money a little bit smaller car I am leaning towards the N Line. Mainly because the interior and super clean digital dash. If the K5 had the digital dash I would probably lean that way.
I have a 2021 Sonata Limited in white with blacked out windows that I bought in March because I couldn't find an Nline anywhere , I have gotten more compliments on that car than any other car that I have ever owned. I love the car so much that I kept it when I finally found and bought a silver 2022 Sonata Nline last month (exact color as the one in this video) They are like driving two completely different cars! I just choose which one to hop into depending on my mood and what kind of driving I want to do. Anyone that gets either will be getting a great vehicle!!
Drove both and as soon as I sat in the Sonata I knew it was the winner. The interior just looks and feels so much better, and then it drives miles better than the Accord. Accord is better around town because the suspension is maybe 15% softer but it can’t keep up in the corners or from a roll. The traditional auto is much more sluggish too compared to the DCT in this
I love mine, I do have just a couple minor complaints. No radio tuner knob No sunglass holder Not a big fan of the pushbutton shifter button's Other than that, I'm loving it
Drove one of these. Really quick, and handles pretty well. Fastest FWD sedan Car & Driver ever tested. It beat the K5 GT they tested by .1 seconds to 60 mph. Interesting fact - C&D's testing said 0-60 for this is 5 sec flat, 5-60 (which is more real world) 5.2 seconds. Veloster N was 4.8 sec 0-60, 5-60 was 5.5 seconds. Agreed Joe, the K5 is better looking.
If you go off of the Car and Driver numbers and compare it to tests they’ve done with other cars, it’s crazy the things this Sonata beats in 0-60 and 1/4 mile. 330i, C300, Charger R/T, IS350 F Sport, TLX Type S, etc. etc. etc. It’s a hell of a car for the money! Huge sleeper vibes
Joe- when you show off the keys can you take a sec to show if it has a conventional key that you can pull out? Thanks from all us surfers and swimmers! We can detatch the key, lock all the doors, put the remote in a faraday bag, hide it, then exit the car and lock the door from the outside using the old fashioned technique.
Joe, you and Lori have been working overtime. Ngrin Shift mode even! LoL. Thanks for being in NY and bringing us the GR86, the 2023 Z and still giving us this great performance sedan! you both are a gift to the auto video journalistic world! #onthrottle
What would be more fun in this car if you can row through your own gears but unfortunately doesn't offer one. None of the competition does either but I would love to have the option of a manual
Its a 8-speed DCT, which means basically a manual transmission with computer shift. So all you're really giving up is the clutch, so those paddles can be slapped silly like a seal.
I've had tons of Hyundai's, and I bought a Sonata N-Line in portofino gray and my son bought one in black, back in February of this year (2021). I love this car. I live in SoCal, so I don't know why they came with all-season tires, but I'll be switching to the summer tires soon. I would have gladly paid a bit more to have cooled seats and heads-up display, and of course, limited-slip or an awd. I also wish the stereo had better imaging. It plays loud, but even with the custom surround mode, the imaging is not there the way it should be. When playing really loud, it's pretty good, but at normal volumes, it sounds a bit empty - not much of a soundstage. The value of this car is great. fuel economy the way the car is driven in this video, will be more in the 17mpg (or less), but when taking it easy, it is pretty good. The dual wet clutch shifts are really fun - you feel them. One thing that I find annoying on most Hyundai's is getting fresh are through the heating/cooling system. On a cool, sunny day, when I need to keep the windows up, the car will heat up from the sun, but there is no setting that will allow the 60-degree fresh air to come into the cabin through the system, even when putting the temp all the way down (a/c off) and setting it to the outside air. It could be that the air gets heated up from the engine compartment, but it is annoying.
I just bought a 2022. I feel the same as you. It’s a pain in the ass the grill and cleaning up after driving and the bugs. Zonk on the grill. Also wish it came with a thicker steering wheel, plus more instrumentation needed oil pressure voltage meter. Plus the ambient lights I wish it would have gone all doors
The Hyundai body lines give me Mercedes vibes. It's a well designed aggressive looking sedan with some punch under the hood and a pretty swanky interior to boot👍. Another comprehensive review from Raiti's Rides... doing the business as usual!
I really like the new sonata and k5 so it would be a difficult choice but it's awesome to see far kia/hyundai have come in the past 30 years, great review
I’d love to see Hyundai build a Sonata N but honestly who would buy it? And with that controversial front end styling, and the cost of what an N would be, I think people would drive it and then choose something else. If Kia has to discontinue the Stinger then I don’t see the Sonata N selling more than 2,000 a year tops. Great job Joe! I like this car but agree with the Zonks on the chrome exterior and interior bits that would be much better and more story if charcoaled out. Thanks Lori for showing us all those angles! You are a pro! I know it’s hot & humid out there.

Just bought one. 2021, 20k miles on it. One owner. Mint. I'm in love. Perfect mix of performance, sporty, room, luxury. Got it for 28.
Nowadays I'll take it. I love everything about it. And it blows away all those 180 hp cars out there for 30k. And The Kia k5, well I like this better. And it's cheaper priced. I looked for a week and ran into one of these and couldn't believe i finnaly found something with speed and not gutted looking inside FINNALY.
Thanks for sharing that great ownership experience.
@@RaitisRides 👍👍
Just got one of these last week! Love it!
Congrats! Is Hyundai charging full MSRP + chip shortage market adjustment?
@@2004cyrus Sticker was like 35k and I got mine for around 32K so if you nominate right you should be good
@@will-dy2ir well that’s amazing in my opinion! Especially these days! I would definitely be happy to get that amount off and drive her home! Good for you! Enjoy for many years! Nice ride. Great warranty

Happy Friday Joe! Hyundai LET'S GO!!!
Have a great weekend!
@@RaitisRides ;D
I think this silver is the best color. Helps compliment the chrome bits...
Favorite channel hands down
Getting this car in November for my birthday it’s a much!! I’m in love with this car
Got myself a regular Sonata Limited Trim for my birthday last month and love it!!!
So much technology all over - you'll love it!
I've had my N line 2 months now. Can't seem to stay out of it. Lol. I got a deal at the Hyundai dealer here: 20 yr, 200,000 mile extended warranty included. Can't beat that!!!
I'd take a K5 GT but still a good looking car!
That color does wonders for the Sonata N-Line. Thanks to Raiti, I will consider this car when I replace my current vehicle.
Have always liked the Sonata, that design change in 2020 made it one of the best looking cars in that mid size market. Wanted to get one but couldn’t make the deal I wanted.
What were u offered ?
Don't like the rear side indent. Wish it was bolder. Like the G 70. Think it would look better. Also something needs to be done with the rear lights.
Another great video. I decided to purchase the K5 GT.
Main reason Sonata N-L over K5GT is build quality (after the warranties end) I drive a Sonata it still looks new , no parts falling off or loose
Also different transmissions, no N team stiffening and so on. The K5GT is cool but a step down from Sonata N-L. I'll continue to enjoy my Sonata V6 3.3, hopefully one day Hyundai will as LSD to N-L to make me move on. BTW I drove an N-L so I know how it compares to mine
If the G70 had somewhat better MPG maybe
Love it!!
I absolutely love the front but the rear… idk it never grew on me
Abacus, haha. Love your work Joe.
I watched your video on the 2.0 Accord and this video and you sound like you just had way more fun in the Sonata than you did in the Honda
Makes me so proud to own this car as my daily driver lol♥️
So-so Nice review, Joe
I have a 20 Sonata Limited. Love my car!
Yeah, the Accord only has 252 hp, so its the Accord that is down on hp. The Camry is still more powerful but also slower
But yet the Accord smoked this car. Either Hyundai is lying about their numbers or Honda is. ua-cam.com/video/P0Plz4XVVpk/v-deo.html

The roll race was s completely different story though. Both cars are highly impressive for their class. My pick would be the Accord.
@@wbwayne8887 What kind of Warranty does the Accord have ?? Is the price similar ??
"Playing some gambling games or something" ha ha ha, Raiti you always crack me up... very nice review
I can totally understand where you are coming from.
Have you looked at the Alfa Romeo?
13:55 Peddles look like a Kia Stinger's peddles, NICE!
Always, best reviews by Joe. Thanks !
If choosing between this car vs. KIA K5, I'd go KIA, more sporty and they have cool steering wheel.
10:42 .... _love_ the woofer is up off the bottom of the door. this will be a big help is soundstage presentation.
It is surely more beautiful. And this color looks nice too.
In design heck yeah but everything else it's very similar kinda
Nice Sonata. Would definitely consider it, but there's that Accord saying hello....
The accord handles waaaaay worse tho
@@brynnleahnayvieghlaykynnn6175 good to know
Drove both and as soon as I sat in the Sonata I knew it was the winner.
No radio tuner knob
No sunglass holder
Not a big fan of the pushbutton shifter button's
Other than that, I'm loving it
Very great points you shared there!
The Canada 2022 n line has HUD, heated steering wheel, left/right turn signal cameras, 360 camera, HDA and power driver seat :)
I got mine last week
Digging the color 👌 😍 ✨
Smart looking sedan. I’m going 8/10
I like your rating system in your comments Gareth!
Both are good 👍Raiti
The console is a geek 🤓
Heck yeah!
290hp Sonata's are very fast buddies.
I really love mine, I have it in April and 0 complains about the car since
Good review

An amazing car... Does the N-line come with a full Automatic transmission?
No traditional torque converter automatic.
Great review joe as always 👍 but how does this sonata compare to the 2022 nissan maxima platinum?
That is such a great question.
Nice to see the Sonata N-Line but the one I would love to see is the Sonata N
You have the Elantra N so no need.
I think between the 2 sister brands I would choose the k5 gt. Looks so much better then the sonata
Agree and the round exhaust tips look better than the Sonata n exhaust
Totally and not to mention the whole headlight housing as well as the rear taillights
The Elantra N will be offered with a six speed manual and probably an LSD as well...
These new Sonatas look and sound like a sports car plus a sedan 😎
Sonata N line exhaust sounds weak plus the round quad tios on K 5 GT look so much better. needs an exhaust like the Elantra N.. and I dont mean n-line
I wish you could get the n line performance and look with the limited options!
0-60 in 5 seconds, only being FWD with 290HP, that is impressive
Tell me about it Damien!
@@RaitisRides so I'm guessing the Elantra N is faster then this due to it having a LSD and all upgraded N performance parts:
The Hyundai body lines give me Mercedes vibes. It's a well designed aggressive looking sedan with some punch under the hood and a pretty swanky interior to boot👍. Another comprehensive review from Raiti's Rides... doing the business as usual!
The Sonata is growing on me lol. But the Interior of the Sonata blows away almost every car out there, even it's sibling the K5 GT.
I really like the new sonata and k5 so it would be a difficult choice but it's awesome to see far kia/hyundai have come in the past 30 years, great review
30 years they were here in The U .S. In 1980's
@@derekintrovert5619 still they've improved massively in those 30 years
Is there room for insulin with that 5lb bag of skittles? Seriously though, you can't hide how much more you like this than the K5! Great review!
Omg bro! Joe really put the twinkies this time 😂😂😂 I’m dying
Yep and skittles
The k5 looks way better but this Sonata is a great car too.
Where I live, you can't find the K5 anywhere. As of 3 weeks ago, I was very, very lucky to find and purchase the one he has here.
The K5 is ugly
@Turnt ! Actually, The one I'm speaking of is the 2.5T
