A distribution cooperative is needed, so the profits generated from artists' work come back to artists instead of being picked by middle men with crafty ways to purge money out of businesses.
Artists could keep 100% royalties and only pay minimal cost to get their music up.
Then the cooperative could generate interests with the royalties pool, and redistribute to artist members each year. Another advantage : In a cooperative, the terms of services would be written by artists, for artists.

    Definitely.
The ONLY way in is through a private party with agendas that are separate from the musicians they unfortunately control. Imagine if the only way you can buy gas for your car, is to purchase a subscription with Ben & Jerry's. (Random company,) Government intervention is necessary, but is the govt capable of making ethical decisions? Probably not. Even if they cared enough to intervene in the first place.

I definitely think it sucks that people have to follow specific rules just to make money off of their music. As long as we’re not breaking laws or engaging in plagiarism, it should be fine. It’s so stupid, the sh*t we have to sign up for.

@Reed5016 even then should not matter to them cause it's artist doin the crime and business bow aware they just assume from algorithms that more times then not mistakenly flag a song

I appreciate the opportunity to talk strategy in the music industry and distributions and talked to the people in charge because they're obviously going to be losing millions of dollars as a continuous changing in the game

The deeper issue is as follows: The major online distributors are saying to independant artists "Take it or leave it. We don't need you!" Point Blank! See: The smarter music artists get in the business end, the more roadblocks the major distributors throw up in or to hold on to power. To combat this issue independant music artist must create their own distribution platforms to sell their music & merch on. I know artists are saying, ok! So where are funds coming from to accomplish such a feat? The answer: Find a source or sources such as a steady job & raise the funds. Where there's a will there's a way.

My problem is music used to be an art form.. Now they have commercialized it to the point where they tell us what is good and what is not. They control all access.

I just realized CDbaby take 9%. That might not seem like a lot in the beginning, but when you’re getting large streams, that’s a ton of money, especially if they’re not doing anything else

Why not substitute "lawyers", including judges and politicians, and the law and business cult seminaries called schools indoctrinating them, for "musicians and artists"?
This rant addresses a tiny fragment of the conflicts over adhesion or extortion contracts, that on one hand are called fundamentally illegal and so properly void where they exist, but on the other hand, are so prolific in so many industries, courts have ruled instead they're normal but to be interpreted in the light most favorable to the less equal or stunted bargaining power party(ies).
At the same time, how could our huge socioeconomic systems of industrial society exist or operate, without standardized contracts, or it every time an airline, hotel, media supplier including say each Roku, Google, or Apple app pushed its code, Hertz with its criminal practices, Meta or Google, IAC/I or Discord, and any smaller variant, all were subject to terms being invalid unless both/all parties were required to have fully informed consent or contracts would be null and void? There's not enough time in a year for that legal review at the pace of activities present, even if each citizen had a legal budget of 50,000 times their annual gross income, before eating or having transportation or a home.
And, that's before we consider devious and evasive contract terms, or terms like you agree to future changes made arbitrarily even if you don't know about or understand them.
How about when government bad actors use social media in ways that apply gaslighting systems of ilegal public forum censorship? What are proper remedies for that?
How do the issues of Boz Scaggs Music et al v KND Corp translate from corrupt ASCAP and BMI with broadcasters, to streaming, where the Library of Congress sets ex post facto contract conditions imposed on network hosts and their clients trying to operate micro-radio online systems, as well as big players, and separate terms for NPR/PRI/PBS?
That litigation which reached the 2nd Circuit mid 1980's was badly handled once Kenneth Norman Dawson had sold off all broadcast assets of KND Corp as the lawyering wheels churned, and dirty tactics of ASCAP and BMI pushed him to have a heart attack at age 33. Which years over the last 5 decades have ASCAP and/or BMI not been under US-DoJ Consent Decrees for actual illegal practices, never mind ones that made Kanye's rant correct (if adjusted for his inarticulate framing, noting Ken and his major investor, retired dentist in Jersey moved to Boca Dr. Jerry, was a Jewish family challenging corrupt business practices by the people Kanye ranted against, some but not all Jews, and some institutional entities)?
There are a lot of fingers to be pointed there over a lot of years, and systems, with both a lot of legal and political issues powerful predators profit by obstructing fixing, as well as practical reality and the scale and complexity of our society. So, what is realistic to actually do, versus just rant?

It’s time for us to formalize our ideas into action Krystle… we clone the backend control panel system while simultaneously negotiating deals with the DSPs… then we market and watch it take off like wildfire. 🔥
The distribution service built by musicians, run by musicians, for musicians.
All profits are reinvested in music business and creation education. The entity will be a non-profit and will also incorporate global royalty collection.
    Let’s walk our talk!

Get a union to make all songwriters union members and sue to compell the distributor to reveal their mailing list so its members can be solicited to join the union. I'd gladly pay a union $10 a month to elevate our collective bargaining power. Or why not let's get ASCAP and BMI to convert to being coming a union with bargaining power?

So this sounds like an antitrust suit. Go to the FTC or file a class action suit on behalf of musicians you represent.
