"My favorite band so far..."
I've been saying that same thing for 30 years now.
I've been saying it for 25 years but over the last couple of years I've realized my favorite is Puscifer. Crazy huh?
@@relaxedatmosphere7336its crazy how so many tool “fans” hate on puscifer
Ever since 1989…
It still breaks my brain on how Maynard can hear a song like this with such a slow build that culminesses into this chaotic crescendo and dude is like ya I got lyrics for this.
What if I told y ou that the music is written first, in it's entirety - THEN Maynard puts lyrics to it. True story, look it up. Now how mind blown are you? =)
@@nate3031dude. That’s exactly what the OP said. Did you not even read it?
@@frightenedsoullmao 😂 ppl just want to 'correct' when what they talking about ain't even correct..
Yeah, Nate! Got some 46&2 to listen to on repeat, brother
Projecting is a symptom of not being one with your shadow
“Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here”
Probably of of the greatest lines over ever heard….
Been a Tool fan for a long time and this is their best song ever made imo.
100% 🙌🏼 Anytime someone asks me my favorite lyric line, this is my answer.
“Credulous at best your desire to”
This line goes through my head when I'm binging out on space videos, like SEA and Kosmos channels.
I feel like I need this tattooed on my body.
Yes, my favorite line from my favorite band. Most powerful and pained and true.
You’re gonna have this one on repeat for a min
Bro..... yes.
When I first heard this song it left me speechless. Nice to see someone having a similar feeling on a first listen.
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here." One of my favorite Tool lyric lines.
You can genuinely see from your reactions that you truly "get" Tool. You understand that what you're listening to is truly on another level. It's cool to see man, keep it up
Brings me to tears every time...
10,000 days is a GEM all around.
That's what i'm saying
I've commented on basically all of your TooL videos. I became a TooL fan my freshman year in college about 20 years ago (yikes..). I'd never listened to them....and one of the students did his paper on TooL. We all had to present/read our papers in front of the class....and he went on to explain how it was difficult to put into words why he liked them so much. He repeated one of the most commonly shared sentiments that we TooL fans have.....which is that you don't just listen to TooLs music.....you experience it. At one point in his speech....he started softly crying as he explained the band....the music....
I knew at that point....at the very least....I needed to listen to this. TooL has been my favorite band since like a week after that. They are my favorite band.....I have a second favorite band....and second place isn't even remotely close to TooL. It is just an absolute pleasure and honor to watch a genius at their craft. Glad you're enjoying them. It's our pleasure to get to witness someone else experience it for the first time. We all know what you're going through.
I feel the same exact way and I’m 22 right now, nobody in my generation besides a small percentage of people understand rock and metal, it’s honestly sad asf
I think the reason for that is because most young people haven't quite learned to be "Patient" and experience the music like you have to with Tool. Yeah some songs can hit you right away but most require a tuned ear that appreciates it. Its really a credit to you at your age.
Awesome been listening to tool since 1996 as a young man of 16
Well saiid!!
this
This song has one of my favorite lines
“Don’t these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around?”
Combines evolution and creationism in such a great way.
Seriously. If we would only be good to each other instead of looking for ways to be enemies. We could accomplish many great things together rather than against each other. But one monkey needs to needs to have it all and here we are...
@@lobotomizedjellyfish2171This exchange is why I love the Tool Army so much 🩶 the wide variety of people who make up the Army could teach the rest of the world a thing or two about getting along with your neighbors. In speaking with other fans at various shows, concerts and festivals, there’s a thread that connects us all through the music…compassion and a willingness to understand another with curiosity instead of fear.
I wish you many hours of marinating in the textures of this music collection 😊
@@lobotomizedjellyfish2171calvinism says hello
@@SilivrenRienAll of this!
Just make sure to listen to the Intension/Right in Two combo so you get both sides of the story later
You need to do Jambi man. Itll make your heart race.
Jambi goes hard and is amazing!
He hasn't reacted to Jambi yet? What the actual fuck??
Jambi is crazy good.
Skip Jambi, it's average as fuck. Has no good melody or build, it simply tries to be different and fails at being a solid Tool song.
Dude needs to cover no quarter cover by them
This one is a top 5 !! LOL
When the drop kicks in it sounds like Justin plugged in his bass and started punching it 😂 smacka da bass 👌
One of the things I find so amazing is that Maynard is so good at just knowing when to shut up and let the band do their thing because it's so good. It's like he knows when it's so good that he needs to be quiet and shine later.
I saw them in concert this past year and they played this one. It was their last concert of the U.S. tour and they brought ALL the big dawgs out. My LORD… we were all just swept away and transcended throughout the show.
Ate some fungus while watching them live for the first time. The journey started when Pushit kicked in and they dropped the curtain. I will never forget that moment. 🤯
Truly spectacular song.
Nice to hear ppl acknowledge Maynard’s amazing melody choices
You gotta think, they’re changing time signatures every 25 seconds or so in their songs, so not only is it even harder to create an amazing melody and find that chord key signature and scale to play with, he also does it to where it’s so unconventional and yet perfectly rhythmic
Incredible band, and awesome to see someone admit This isn’t their typical genre choice, yet now they’re favorite band lol
Culling Voices is the Maynard showcase we've been waiting for since they began. Its a tour de force vocal performance that needs to be talked about.
@@coryg7051 I do love the quieter parts in that track, but I just find the music in heavier part a little underwhelming, like it's a backward step.
@@dan.j.boydzkreationz agreed, like a race car with one more gear left but you never get to open it right up.
I think the different time signatures would be a “love/hate” thing, as he mentions, for only the first few times listening. Then once ya got the beat in your head, you kinda look forward to it. I also don’t know jack shiii about music n stuff. Lol
I’m 65 and have been a “Christian” for more than half my life. I use quotes because “Christianity is so far removed from what it should be, I left the church 9 years ago. This song haunts me. Humans are a mess and without guidance, we’ll just make a club and beat our brothers down. Fantastic writing!!!
Brother, I can truly relate.🙏🏻
Awesome!!!!!! Been looking forward to this even more than the Super Bowl. 🤣🤣
Definitely one of their best in my opinion! That breakdown starting in the middle of the song (splitting it right in two, even! And that's intentional, it starts exactly halfway through the song!) is crazy. A few other big ones you still have to hear are "H.", "Eulogy", "Prison Sex", and either "Opiate" or "Opiate2" (Opiate2 is a recent remake of the original Opiate from 30 years ago I think? They're both great though, but I do prefer the new one, so whichever you'd prefer or both even would be awesome!
Opiate 2 is a recent remake. It switches some words too. I love both. Can't pick a favorite of those two besides the fact Opiate's end is weird.
Jambi as well!
@@cyberdemon1702 YESSSS Jambi!!
Yeah it's definitely intensional
Seeing this live for the first time in 25 years of being a fan, last year. It was something…. Just think you’re this far in and have so many amazing songs to go. It’s been a pleasure taking the ride with you. And experiencing Tool again for the first time.
So jealous
Saw them live a long time ago. It was late 90s. Don't really remember it.
My friend went to the bathroom and never came back. My other friend and I just sat there smoking blunts. I do remember people on stage walking on all fours with stilts. Weird.
I was actually at the world premiere of this song live and didn’t realize it until years later, pretty cool
This song put Tool in the GOAT category. Again.
One of my favorite lyrics in all of music is "repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here." The human ability to be conscious of our finite existence, and the audacity to waste it.
You need to listen to Jambi. You just gotta, Polo.
This and Jambi are my favorites off this album. If you haven't already reacted to it, you should react to that masterpiece next! 💜
That live version of Jambi 2013 is awesome. Hope he reacts to that, can see Adam do his thing on the guitar.
Mine too!, just waiting for Jambi. Its one of those lesser heard songs but totally awesome.
This song makes the comment, "my favourite song is the song I'm listening to right now", very relevant.
You really do need to hear "Schism."
You'll love it.
Been waiting for this one!
I feel like I say this about every single Tool song.. BUT this is one of their songs that truly just keeps getting better and better every time you listen to it. The build ups are like nothing else with this band. There is no other band I can listen to the song 15 gazillion times and STILL get goosebumps and get the rush I get with them. Their music has gotten me through almost every major stage of my life, good and bad. Their work truly has been and will continue to be a source of healing and happiness for myself and I’m sure for many others as well. I’ve loved going on this journey of tool and everything else with you my good sir! I’ve lost the pure joy of being able to show someone new tool songs as my wife has heard everyone of their songs many times and is probably sick of tool now so this is the next best thing for me! Keep up the good work brother!! 🤘🔥💪
I've listened to this song so many times. So relative. At the end all I can say is wow!
Listen later with the song before “intension” leading into it. In many ways this is Justin’s album to shine on. He goes totally wild on it.
this is one of those songs where the lyrics make you go "hes got a point there" then by the end of it you want to break shit right in two. lololol Fun song.
YAY I caught a premiere.
He's gonna love this
Love you tool army!
Sir, you need to react to The Patient! Speaking of crazy time signatures! Also a true TOOL banger :D
Everytime I listen to this song it always feels like the first time.
Can't wait till you go down the RUSH rabbit hole!!!
GREATNESS.... Justin on bass is amazing in this song!
His technique, creative use of effects, and his tone, the best in rock by far. Been chasing his tone for years.
Only way this song gets any better is when you see it live! Danny Carey just said Tool was going to tour in the fall again , so don't hesitate!
Do you know if it’ll be in the US?
WHATTTTT! Where did he say this? :o
You are correct there is no one yet that can top tool.
the time signature for this one is kinda crazy haha
it's in 11/4
you can count it as 6/4 + 5/4.. and once in a while you can kinda feel like they're doing 5/4 before 6/4, but it happens only a handful of times throughout the song. I feel it's just them being "assholes" trying to confuse the listener because they can do that seamlessly. LOL
There is a live cover version of this song done by a group of guys under the name Beard of Harmony ( using acoustic instruments ) I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU CHECKING IT OUT AS WELL.
So glad to see this recommendation here. Absolutely LOVED their acoustic cover. It’s freaking wild how they nail every aspect of the song despite a very different arrangement.
Great cover! 👍
That cover is pure gold
Spot on 👍
The meaning is right there in the name of the band
These lyrics are delivered with wicked precision. Like dropping acid in everyone's drink and performing a rain dance, while helicopters land in a dust storm off in the distance. I love this song.
'Reflections'!
The drumming is amazing as always.
Polo! You have to see Tool live. Travel if you must.
It gets so intense that it will swipe you off your feet!
As always, great reaction! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do the Beard of Harmony Cover of this!!!! You will love it!! TRUST ME ;)
Just came to post this as well. It is so good. "Right in two (Tool cover) - Beard of Harmony ft. Yann Phayphet (Live recording)"
Jambi live dvd 2013, you will love it. Great reactions as always, hope your son ears are all better.
No one ever recommends Intention, but it’s part 1 of this story. I would recommend you listen to both of them together on your own time.
Very true 🌀
This song brings me to tears.
This song is incredible and the lyrics very apropos imo. Tool never let's me down. I would say this song is one of my favorites but every Tool song is one of my favorites!
I envy someone's first time hearing this.
I've watched many of these reactions and everyone gushes(rightly so) over danny,Adam and maynard yet it's Justin's base that drives this and many of their songs, wish someone would show him love too
Eddie Van Halen did... walked away from a Tool concert blown away by...Justin.
💯 %. As much as I like Polo's reactions, I'm always like, DUDE... What about Justin? He's the best bassist on 🌎!
I knew you'd love it. Also, if you ever expect Tool to give you what you were expecting, you're in for a rough ride 🤣 Give Jambi a shot next.
He needs to do Jambi. Starts so different to most Tool songs but its a signature Tool song.
My favourite part is the drum solo Danny plays at the entire song
My favorite Tool song.
Close your eyes and zone out and experience it!
You geeked out at the parts I thought you would. This song has become one of my favorite songs from anyone. Blast it in the 4 runner for sure.
Your love-hate relationship with their time signatures will develop into love because you'll learn to anticipate the time changes and feel how they all come together.
DOPE intro, my favorite so far from Tool.
This song is really part of a pair of songs. You soul listen to this with "intention" that comes before this.
One of their best songs
This song literally inspired my 2nd tattoo. Absolute masterpiece
Did it get you the attention you needed so desperately or did you have to get a third tattoo as well?
I’m legit considering a tattoo with the lyric “Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to Heaven conscious of his fleeting time here”
@@SSPspaz that's the lyric I got.. most pr9found shit I've ever heard
@@Viccerz Nice! I knew it haha. If I got that tattoo, it would absolutely be in the same sense as a stoic memento mori tattoo - a visible reminder that life is fleeting and that we shouldn’t squander our ability to ponder philosophy, faith, human nature, the meaning of life, or the mysteries of the universe.
BEST tool SONG imo
great existential song
Yes! Finally!!
What’s hard to imagine for us old dudes who’ve been listening since day one is that all their music is available on demand. We waited 5 long years between albums not knowing what was coming next and then 😮 each and every time. It was magical. It would take 5 years just to absorb what you had. I highly recommend to all you Tool fans to try listening to Undertow for a while, take a break listen to Aenema, then Lateralus, etc. The progression adds to the appreciation.
12:05 to 12:25 is just some kinda sonic audio boomerang thrown from one ear, around the back of your head and finishing smack bang back in the other ear 🎶😁🤘LOVE IT.
Tool will forever remain your favorite band. I got 5 on it.
Tool is AMAZIN' as JLP would put it. They never get old, never.
Hands down no questions about it
Tool is the greatest band ever.
Sometimes I wonder if they like the odd time signatures because it forces you to give up and just be present. Puts your expectations off balance.
I’ve realized that one of the things that Tool does best is to start with a repetitive (i.e. very predictable and almost hypnotic) theme, slowly start building layers on top of this while keeping you suspended in an almost trance-like state, and then absolutely broadsiding you with a massive tempo change into some odd, mind-wracking time signature. Goosebumps every freaking time.
I think this foreshadowed every song on Fear Inoculum.
Tool albums are best experienced in chronological order. Do yourself a solid and sit down and listen to 10,000 days from top to bottom in a dark room with headphones on and let yourself transcend.
Tools musicianship is amazing. But to me its the message he is telling us. So powerful.
All the change ups and different time signatures are what keep us coming back. Can always find something new. 🤘🏻
Best ending to a song I’ve ever heard in my life not gonna lie
GREAT song
Truly powerful song.
Timeless, I'm 72 and their music is as good as ever!
If the remaining 3 members of the Stones and many other bands can still perform in their 70s, and they do, no reason why you shouldn't listen til you last breath. I know I will. It's healing. 😊
Ofc the Stones may have stopped since Charlie Watts passed. But the point stands. We have musicians who started from the 60s still tour and do concerts. Croz made music til the day he passed.
Great way to start my day! Polo reacting to TOOL!!
you have to do a revisit series of videos where you go back to songs after you've listened to them 10 or 20 times and give us an update. I bet you like each one more and more, even Flood ;)
One of my favorite tracks from 10,000 days, Jambi and Vicarious, wings of Marie
The slow build up and when it hits you its so heavy it melts your face .
Yes sir… Maynard is a master of writing beautiful melodic lines - both in their rhythmic and modal content
I love that you have become such a fan of tool. Your reactions are gold. Much ❤️
I love you, man.
It’s a little mind blowing that this dropped in 2006 and yet has more in common with the current state of affairs. In a way it’s fairly prescient. This bad is 🔥🔥!
One of us
One of us
From beginning to end, the whole song IS the beat. 🤯
Wish I could hear Tool for the first time again. Hope you get the chance to see them live.
Reflection, Eulogy and Right in Two are my top Tool songs.
You get to catch the beat when you learn the beat. I understand It's hard to react to tool, because It's apparently mandatory to move at least some, but Tool without odd meters is not Tool. It's what they do. The bring structure to chaos and make something beautiful for the attentive listener
I wish I could listen to tool for the first time again. It’s so cool watching your reactions!
You should give 15 step by Radiohead a shot!
Polo: you have brilliant taste, so glad TOOL is also your favorite band! 🙏👍👏❣️
My fav Tool but srsly...Check out the cover of this song by Beard of Harmony. The cover is original and beyond phenomenal imo. Tool worthy material
All of Tool’s music is amazing
Maynard clearly watched and loved The Prophecy. So did I. Great tune.
Now listen to it again …louder lol. It’s just insane what you thought was possible with 4 guys …and hen there’s tool
Wings for Marie. Wow. A song about his mother passing. One of my favorites off this album.
